There are a couple of things happening this weekend that you might consider being part of.
- First, there will be a bunch of legislative town hall meetings in communities all over the state tomorrow. This is a chance to offer your state Senator or Representatives some advice, criticism, and feedback. The full schedule for tomorrow and other dates is here.
- National Radical Women invite you to celebrate 100 years of International Women’s Day and female-led uprisings, strikes and protests from 1911 to 2011. There will be a brunch at 1:30 and a main event at 3:00. (Door donation $2.00, Brunch donation $9.00). The event is at New Freeway Hall, 5018 Rainier Ave. S. Seattle. (More information.)
- There is a Project AWARE underwater clean-up of Golden Gardens Park and Shilshole Marina, Saturday, March 12, 2011, 8am – 2pm.

Hmmph. The “League of Education Voters” list of legislative districts and “full schedule” of town hall meetings leaves out half the state, geographically-speaking. There are education voters east of the mountains, ya know. Sometimes it really does seem like we are on our own out here. And that ain’t easy with all the horrid right-wingers in our midst.

That is my fault. I relied on them for the list I placed at The Ave. If you make that comment there and offer me some sort of link, I will try to use that in the future.
This link will give you an idea of how (un)successful that effort is:

TA does try, BTW, to cover issues related to our topic across the state. The problem I find is that it is much harder to get information from the “other” side of the mountains!
Pete spews:
Despite their great name, Radical Women (and the Freedom Socialist Party, which it as an offshoot of) is among the most obnoxious of our city’s sectarian left groups, with a long record of torpedoing coalitions that don’t sufficiently adopt their “line.” Their “world headquarters” is in Seattle, their being an offshoot of some or another socialist rift years ago. They remind me a lot of a cult, and they have that same sort of admirable-but-kinda-creepy persistence.
Michael spews:
I’ve given up on my local Democratic electeds. They’re nice people and they mean well, but they’re really quite useless and we have little in common. The odd thing about it is that you would think that would make me some sort of far lefter, but I’m not.
Some Republican Dullard spews:
Nice to see that hairy legged, uppity women are finally getting their fair share of the press here on HA.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Rightwing militias — i.e., grownups who dress in cammies and run around in the woods playing wargames with real guns — are sorta cute, right? I mean, they’re harmless, aren’t they?
Federal authorities today arrested five individuals affiliated with a Fairbanks, Alaska, militia group for plotting to kill a federal judge and two state troopers.
“According to prosecutors, the weapons amassed by the group included machine guns, multiple assault rifles, multiple pineapple grenades, at least one grenade launcher, dozens of high-powered rifles and pistols and thousands of rounds of ammunition.”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Harmless. Yeah, hey, these anti-government fake soldiers are harmless. Oh yeah. Hey, if you got a few RPGs, hand grenades, or machineguns in your garage that you can spare, these folks can put them to use. They have their own private army and they want to overthrow our democratically elected government with real guns shooting real ammo.
