Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) may not have been the first Republican to attempt to politicize the failed, Christmas Day crotch-bombing attack, but he has turned the rhetoric up a notch by being the first to demand Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s resignation.

It should be remembered that in the wake of 9/11, Democrats rallied behind President Bush, giving him a free hand in Afghanistan, and ultimately in Iraq. But had Al Gore been president at the time, you can be sure that the Republican majority in Congress would have used the greatest intelligence failure in U.S. history as justification for impeaching him.

1. Blue John spews:

Much as I hate to say it, Dems have to stop playing nice, cause the repubs certainly are not.

2. Michael spews:

That’s because our current crop of Republicans are crooks and crazies.

Our current crop of Democrats, on the other hand, are useless tools. As evidenced by their rallying around a President that: faced with a wold changing event told his people to go shopping, held back troops that were needed in Afghanistan, passed the prewritten Patriot Act that violated our civil rights and liberties and did nothing to keep us safe, and invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and wasn’t a threat to anyone.

3. Lefty Loosey spews:

…and, as I seem to recall, the Rethugs are also holding up some key political appointments (such as in Homeland Security) for their own political reasons. Dems, especially Obama, do need drop their whiffle balls and pick up the hard ball.

4. Michael spews:

@3

Amen to that!

5. Steve spews:

I thought we were going to use the census as a means to round up the birthers and teabaggers and put them in concentration camps before we surrender America to the Jihadist Islamo-commie-fascists and the New World Order. What’s holding things up? C’mon, Dems, let’s get with the program!

6. David Tatelman spews:

Yes, if anybody needs to be let go it is Senator DeMint of South Carolina who is blocking the nomination of Erroll Southers as the head of the TSA. The reason? He hates unions so much that he wants to make sure that Mr. Souther will not negotiate with his employees.

7. Daddy Love spews:

Had Al Gore been president in 2001, here are three things that would have been different:
1. The USA wouldn’t have taken its eye off the al Qaeda ball in January 2001.
2. National Security Director Richard Clarke would have been catching terrorists instead of giving a speech on nuclear missile defense on September 11.
3. President Gore would have been responding to the spring/summer terrorist chatter and not taken August off on vacation while our nation was in peril.

8. Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:

Damn Daddy Love is acting as stupid as FartyArt.

Here is Richard Clarke in 2002 before the Dummocraptics got to him. Suck on that Daddy Love. Seems Richard Clarke blows that weak argument in post #7 OUT OF HERE!

Oh BTW terrorist attempt on a airliner and YOUR president decides to go golfing. Now we see two “interesting” comments from YOUR president in two days.

9. lame ass democrats spews:

well gee. GWB gets memo saying OBL plans to hit a building with a plane and does nothing, then it happens. dontcha thinkt he Democrats should have blamed GWB?

Shoulda impeached him?

It’s soooo disheartening that day in and day out the GOP fights. Then the democratic liberal hipsters like Goldy complain that…the GOP is fighting! Then such writiers point out the unfairness of it all, why look, see, we Democrats we UNITED BEHIND THE PRESIDENT when WTC was attacked….look how nonfighting we are!

They never seem to get it. Parties are supposed to fight. The Democrats blew it like they always do. Get some backbone Democrats stop whining that GOP fights get on the freaking playing field and fight already.

OBL was not caught and he got away and Democrats never even made an issue out of that failure either.

As predictable as the bad software your employer regularly loads on the public, Daddy. In fact, wouldn’t your time be much better spent thinking about how to improve that?

11. jon spews:

Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) may not have been the first Republican to attempt to politicize the failed, Christmas Day crotch-bombing attack

You must be kidding, right, Goldy? This event was politicized the moment administration officials appeared on the Sunday talk shows to spin the attack, with Napolitano’s epic “the system did not fail” claim being exhibit number one. Obama’s solemn statement today – which COMPLETELY reverses Napolitano’s Sunday spin – is just more spin and nothing more than an effort to blunt the growing controversy over the administration’s halting response as Obama vacationed in Hawaii. The administration wants to show that Obama is on top of and ahead of this threat.

The fact of the matter is it’s virtually impossible to know what planet Napolitano was on when she made her claim.

Incidentally, if George Bush had been in office when this occurred you and the HA rabble would have been out with the long knives. Spare us the sanctimony.

12. czechsaaz spews:

@8

Uhhh, Puuuuddddyyyy…

You cite, as your “out of here” an interview given by Clark NEARLY A YEAR AFTER THE ATTACK? You really are willing to accept any half brained theory aren’t you? Oh wait, only half-brained theories, told by a man who was charged with stoping attacks on the U.S., a full year after his abject failure. Those kinds of theories are fine.

You can link Pud, but you can’t hide the lack of context.

Want to try again? Puddybud remembers, but only selectively and never with any critical thought…

13. czechsaaz spews:

O.K. This isn’t to exhonerate Obama or blame a previous administration but there’s something missing in the coverage, or blame on this story.

Note that terrorists aren’t boarding planes in the U.S. anymore. All the TSA can do is require airlines wishing to land a plane in the U.S. to meet predetermined safety standards. But the TSA or homeland security doesn’t train overseas security personnel. Why, when trying to assign blame, have I not heard anyone question the security measures Internationally in general and in Europe particularly. Both attmepted plane bombers post 9-11 boarded in Europe.

14. Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:

Yes we have some interesting types rallying around the president. Remember it was ACLU, HA Libtardos, and other progressive freak shows who claimed GWBush overreacted to the terrorist threat. This is the argument your progressive freaks claimed over and over. YOUR president claimed he was “hope and change”. YOUR president ran as president of the world. YOUR president claimed he would “change” all that. Well the terrorist threat has hit home twice since he’s been YOUR president.

Now YOUR president is finding out how hard it is to be president of the USA. Terrorist have rejected him. They still want to attack the US. It’s passed the campaign rhetoric he used when he told the terrorist peeps America will be different now that he’s there. Looks like his “threat” to close GITMO hasn’t worked. YOUR president told the world Bush was wrong in his terrorist views as YOUR president told every leader and all the slobbering press. Remember YOUR president campaigned for president of the world only to be rejected by many countries and the terrorists.

Even Hugo Chavez said “It still smells of sulfur here” when he took the lecturn in Copenhagen after YOUR president. Strange, that’s what you all screamed and shouted happily when Chavez said that about Bush. YOUR president’s open hand is being rebuffed all over. YOUR president’s stupid April European apology tour just didn’t work and these terrorist peeps still want to kill his “subjects”.

25. ArtFart spews:

@23 Unfortunately, at this point that’s not such a good option either. If we yanked the rug, the hawks who now dominate the Israeli government might get sufficiently desperate to actually use the nuclear arsenal they’re not supposed to have but everyone knows they do.

I’m a used prophylactic? That reminds me of a story of one of my last trout fishing excursions with my elderly father in Prescott, AZ when we went to Lynx Lake in 1996.

You have to understand that he was a very moralistic gentleman who was easily shocked by any evidence of overt sexuality. As we were exiting the 1988 Chevy Caprice, dear old dad was in a jolly frame of mind when we both simultaneously spotted a used, green condom with the contents spilling out and the telltale slickness of its rubbery-plasticlike exterior.

A darkness spread over his face that I remember to this day — as he realized that the memory that I would carry to infinity would include that used rubber on the hot tarmac.

It is actually you, PuddWaxx, who is the embodiment of that used prophylactic — and I hope you never forget it.

Puddy,
You are either an idiot or crazy. Of course, there is a third option–you’re both. Nothing close to a terrorist attack has occurred on Obama’s watch. And, Cynical certainly joined Biden in predicting an attack would happen in the first 6 months. I forgot, there is a fourth option–you’re a liar. Maybe if we tried a few Republicons for treason they would shut up.

I swear they would burn America to the ground if they thought it would get them a few votes from their zombie base.

Why work for a good health care bill, when you can make it as bad as possible playing politics. Using your campaign contributors billions to attack anyone fighting for “regular” Americans. The unemployed ones. The uninsured ones.

Republicans Are A Disease

Hoekstra, King, DeMint. What a bunch of traitors. I say lock ‘em up. Nobody would ever say Obama was a wuss ever again.

79. Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:

@74 continued,

THE TARP bill was conceived by Henry Paulson, George W Bush’s Treasury Secretary. Remember those words from certain HA Libtardos?

Your leetle-brained cousin ylb arschloch, the dumb brick told us this ad nauseum

Paulson wrote a three page bill asking for a 700 billion dollar blank check with no oversight.

So if it’s working this means ylb arschloch is the FOOL OF FOOLS.

Well…… we who always think right already knew that about ylb arschloch!

2) Ask your questions
3) check if you got it right
4) if no go to 1. If yes go to 5
5) Pat yourself on your head

Now Puddy could run like ylb arschloch does when he’s asked a question. We who think right know that’s because he can’t think on his ASS.

So which question is Puddy supposed to answer?

It is not about rallying around the President, be he Obama or Bush. It is about not succumbing to terror.
Had the underpants bomber’s plan worked its worst, it would have been a terrible tragedy for the people on board, their families, friends and loved ones. But the attack was not on those unknown people on the plane, was it?

Paradoxically, the failure of the attack to produce death achieves the goal of a terrorist attack if it causes us to become unhinged and terrified.

There are particular Republicans (Burton, DeMint, Hoekstra, King, Lieberman) who are using the prospect of terror (albeit performed by others) to terrorize the public.
There are more than a few pants wetting journalists and bloggers doing the same.

The assclown politicians are bin Laden’s allies.
It has nothing to do with rallying. It has everything to do with responsible leadership and the responsibilities of citizenship.

Wrong again MBS. We who always think right told the world there are peeps who think their religion gives them the right to kill “infidels”. YOUR president introduced to the world in March 2009 the new sterilized, hygienic terminology and language. YOUR president introduced politically correct terminology for the ‘war on terror”; it’s now an “Overseas Contingency Operations”. In place of “terrorist attacks” the politically correct, sterilized, hygienic terminology and language term is now “Man Caused Disasters.”

Yep, we can’t offend murderers, terrorists and thugs no more ie. Al Qaeda and the Muslim terrorists who continue to attack us! This was to make us safer. Well that didn’t work.

So we had a terrorist attack… oops… Man Caused disaster in November at Ft Hood. We almost had a terrorist attack… oops… Man Caused Disaster Christmas Day. We are still wondering if the other Nigerian on Dec 26 on the same flight number became sick thinking he was going to cause another terrorist attack… oops… Man Caused Disaster.

It’s your side who can’t put 2+2 together knowing Muslim extremists want to create terror attacks… my bad man caused disasters. You can’t call them for what they are so you blame conservatives who will call them what they are… terrorism, plain and simple.

98. Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:

Proud Leftist,

Cry me a river fool! Simple positive or negative answer to the second question? Puddy answered this question last fall. Your memory is as good as Herr Goebbels Dumb Bunny. Ask your moronic friend ylb arschloch when Puddy gave a positive response to your request. He provides Goldy a backup server free of charge. He has Puddy’s positive response. You said you’d buy a beer. Puddy said he doesn’t drink but would take a carbonated soft drink. Why is it leftists forget such simple things? You still have to tell Puddy when you are going to be at a Montlake Drinking Libtardo meeting. Did you forget?

99. Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:

Again this is unprecedented. The whitey house blog being used in strange political theater. If Bush’s men had done this back in the day Goldy and his minions would have placed big fucking thread headlines for multiple days.

“We’ve said it before here, but I’ll say it again: for President Obama, this isn’t about him or about the Democratic Party. ”

Bullshit Dan… it is about Democrat politics… plain and simple and you are leading the cyber world sycophants.

101. Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:

We who continue to think right told you this person met the Peter Principle. Yet you HA Libtardos called us sexist and misogynists for saying she was incompetent for the job. Well how can you say the system work one day only to tell us the system didn’t work a couple days later. This is worse backtracking than what you leftist complain about regarding Tom Ridge, because she is putting peeps lives at risk with her incompetence.

Puddy is glad someone mule-kicked her into seeing there are terrorists in the world still trying to kill US peeps. Notice her opening paragraph.

“Friday’s attempted terrorist attack against Northwest Flight 253 near Detroit is a powerful illustration that terrorists will go to great lengths to try to defeat the security measures that have been put in place since September 11, 2001.”

Now what about the HA Libtardos? If Janet claims it was an attempted terrorist attack what does hmmm… Proud Leftist now say?

This next paragraph is a laugher

While we took swift action immediately following last week’s incident at airports around the country and throughout the world, our defenses should never have allowed this individual to board a plane bound for the United States. The administration is determined to find and fix the vulnerabilities in our systems that allowed this breach to happen.

No you didn’t. You told us immediately the system worked. Someone handed you your ASS in the background and told you to wakeup and realize peeps could have died on that flight.

104. MikeBoyScout spews:

By all appearances, it doesn’t matter if the Republican attacks are baseless and ridiculous. It doesn’t matter if Republican national security policies failed. It doesn’t matter that Republicans are more anxious to denounce the president than they are to denounce terrorism.

What matters now is what mattered before — whether GOP voices can create and exploit just enough misguided panic and fear to benefit politically.

Republican pollster Neil Newhouse said the attempted attack on Christmas is “a black eye” for the administration. It takes about three seconds of actual thought to realize how absurd this is. Was 9/11 “a black eye” for Bush/Cheney? How about the anthrax attacks? Or Richard Reid? Or the attacks against U.S. allies around the world? And the terrorist attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan?

If I didn’t know better, I might think terrorists trying to kill Americans under a Republican administration is good news for the GOP, while terrorists trying to kill Americans under a Democratic administration is also good news for the GOP.

108. Fart Therapy spews:

How convenient. The entire half-vast conspiracy of leftist lunacy beat up Bush year after year for isolating terrorists in Guantanamo where they couldn’t commit acts of terror.

Gore said Bush was preying on our fears by reminding us that 9/11 was part of a pattern. McDermott said Bush’s Guantanamo was an atrocity. Ivins said that Guantanamo’s residents deserved the fullest tender protections of American-ACLU law. The ACLU and Eric Holder’s law firm said the “terrorists” at Guantanamo needed free lawyers. The Supreme Court said Guantanamo residents needed civil trials in which indictments would be voided if defendants had been inconvenienced or dampened in the gleaning of evidence. The leftover left said “terrorists” needed habeus corpus rights. The rest of the left said that Guantanamo residents needed to be released and that Bush needed to be detained and put on trial.

And now you beat up Bush for giving in to Granny Pelosi and the Supreme Court in 2007? For releasing some detainees who couldn’t be successfully prosecuted in civil trials where Eric Holder held all the obstructionist cards? For not forcing Saudi Arabia to do … what?

Guantanamo worked, until the left screwed it up. Waterboarding worked, until the left screwed it up. Extraordinary rendition worked.

You left-wing revisionists are shameless. Shameful, actually. Just like Obama’s neo-Marxist bureaucracy that screwed up last week.

But fear not. Obama promised to get us out of Iraq in 2009. In two days he’ll redirect his attention and our resources to mending his broken leftist agenda. The homeland will again be secure. And Bush will be doing time, alone, in Guantanamo.

Terrorist, huh?

Here is a young man from a prominent family in Nigeria. Very wealthy even by American standards.

Nigeria’s Muslims are known for being peaceful and not the radicalized versions we see in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan etc.

How about the Pakistani young men who did the London bus bombings? Why did they attack Britian. They were born in England and came from middle class families.

Why do people who normally wouldn’t engage in violent behavior against the US try to kill innocent people, and themselves?

The answer lies in the War Crimes committed under the Bush administration. When ordinary Muslims see the United States act like the dictators of Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Adolph Hitler, or any other rogue leadership who falsely imprisoned people, tortured, maimed and killed people they rally against the common enemy. When threatened collectively, common people take up a common cause.

Even, Untied States Army officers . . .

Puddy and the rest of the radical, right-wing extremists were right; the Fort Hood massacre was a terrorists act.

A terrorist bred under the Bush administration, slipped through the cracks of the Bush administration. Acted out murderously because of the Bush administration policies.

Bush’s war criminal policies created a plethora of Muslims who’ve become radicalized by his policies of torture, indefinite confinement without trial, and invasion of a Muslim nation that had ZERO to do with 9/11.

When the world is viewed through the lenses of a Muslim, America is a nation that is killing mostly innocent Muslims, the elderly, women and children on a large scale. Destroying their infrastructure, schools, jobs, economies, and a way of life that is 10 times older than America’s.

The lesson here is an ancient one: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

We don’t know our enemy anymore because of the Bush doctrine. Because Bush didn’t trust our military to do the job they are trained to do have done ever so glantlly and faithfully for over 200 years. He outsourced their service to our nation to untrustworthy Afghan war lords in 2002 when we had OBL dead to rights at Tora Bora. And using Blackwater extensively in Iraq and Afghanistan without any legal restraining devices placed on them. Of course the average Muslim is beginning to see America as a personal threat.

President Bush and Dick Cheney have endangered America’s security for decades to come.

Instead of putting “Country First” and rallying behind our president like patriotic Democrats did after 9/11, Republicans view the Christmas Day terrorist bombing attempt as a chance to go on the attack against America’s president.

What more do you need to see from Republicans to realize they are on the same side as al Qeada? They are, in fact, the enemy within.

If there was ever a time to use the Armed Forces of the United States of America within its own borders, now is that time. The terrorists have infiltrated America, and they call themselves Republicans, Conservatives, Reagan Republicans, Fiscal Conservatives, Tea Baggers, Conservative Christians, Moral Majority, Skin Heads, KKK, Aryan Brotherhood, American Nazi’s, Army of God and many other names associated with those on the right.

They all have one thing in common; to destroy the America we have built at all costs.

When Country First is no longer refuge of scoundrels I’m willing to listen and talk with them. Until then, we need to defend America by any means necessary from it’s enemies and DOMESTIC.

Ask Clinton. Both of them. The first WTC attack, Khobar Towers, the embassies, the USS Cole … all Clinton catastrophes that occurred while Bill was molesting the pizza girl.

the War Crimes committed under the Bush administration …

So that’s the explanation. Adolph Josef Saddam Idi Bush made peaceful Muslims drive a Ryder truck-bomb into the WTC parking garage in 1993, and it was Bush war crimes that forced adherents of the Religion of Peace to kill 17 (?) Americans on the Cole several months before Bush stole the presidency. Now it all makes sense. Thanks, GBS.

Ask Clinton. Both of them. The first WTC attack, Khobar Towers, the embassies, the USS Cole … all Clinton catastrophes that occurred while Bill was molesting the pizza girl.

First WTC attack and all parties prosecuted and put in US jails without the Republicans putting their puppy tais firmly between their legs pissing all over the floor with fright.

Kohbar Towers got a military response while Republicans were firmly fixated on Clinton’s zipper. While Clinton was attacking al Qeada Republicans were chanting “No war for Monica” and “Clinton’s using the media to deflect attention away from the Lewinsky scandal.”

While America was being attacked, while the storm clouds of war were brewing, Republicans were busy attempting a coup and overthrow the popularly elected president of the United States of America with “impeachment.”

USS Cole: Glad you brought it up fuck head. The straw the broke the camel’s back in the Clinton White House. Bill Clinton, at the end of his presidency put the White House and the Pentagon on a war footing, preparing to attack Afghanistan. Waiting for the CIA and the FBI to confirm the source of the attakcers before launching the military invasion. Like a president is supposed to do. Bush’s transition team was briefed of the grave situation. 6 days afther Bush became president the confirmation form the CIA and FBI came. Bush’s response? Nada. Aug 6 PDB “bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States using commerical aircraft.” Bush’s response while being on vacation for 30 days 9 months into the job? “You covered your ass”

I can name several:
George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Roger Angstrom, Glenn Beck, Rush Limpdick, Sean Hannity . . . all Republicans.

Watherboarding didn’t produce any actionable intelligence. Ask that conservative talk show host who tried waterboarding. Lasted all of 3 seconds and said “that’s absolutely torture.” Dick suck.

Again, Puddy reveals that his memory is not as reliable as he imagines it to be. I call Republicans terrorists, because the definition applies. If Republicans don’t like the fact that I call them out for being terrorists, then they should stop using failed terrorist attacks as an excuse to claim that Democrats are soft on terror–a particularly egregious claim given that the Obama Administration is handling the undiebomber in exactly the same way that the Bush Administration handled the shoe bomber.

If these piss-ants want to spend all this time talking about screw-ups on various presidential watches, one could also point to the 1983 bombing in Beirut. Talk about a major cockup. There never was any kind of “proportional response” to that one. Saint Ronnie and friends blustered a whole lot, but the most substantive thing they came up with was suing Iran. Never heard anyone argue that Republicans are soft on terror based on that whole fiasco. Have you?

“A CIA official prepared a report on Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab after a meeting with the suspect’s father in November, who shared information about his son’s extremist views, CNN reported Tuesday. Well, that pretty well describes the Republican criticisms of the way the Obama Administration is handling the undiebomber given the fact that the Obama Administration is handling the undiebomber in exactly the same way the Bush Administration handled the shoe bomber.

This is the hypocrisy that lies at the heart of the notion that calling Republicans “terrorists” is no longer hyperbole.

Hey Don Joe why do you support the ACLU who likes terrorist more than US citizens?

I’ve seen no evidence whatsoever that the ACLU “likes terrorists more than US citizens,” but, if that’s what Republicans really believe, the real question is, why aren’t Republican terrorists (yeah, that’s redundant) more supportive of the ACLU?

Which brings me to the latest round of the Puddy Parade of Partial Punditry. Puddy has taken to repeatedly quoting a single sentence out of Richard Clarke’s August 2002 briefing that was released by the propaganda arm of the Republican Party.

Silly Puddy. As if that one sentence should suffice to justify the Bush Administration’s blasé attitude toward bin Laden and al Qaeda for the 8 months preceding the attacks on 9/11. Apparently Puddy’s argument is that the Bush Administration had no plan to deal with al Qaeda, because the Clinton Administration didn’t give them one!

ok, here’s what everyone has been waiting for . . . the verdict on Don Joe. Recall, yesterday DJ claimed he made valuable and “substantive” contributions to HA. When challenged to find ANYONE on HA other than Darryl who would agree with this assessment, he was unable to. At that point he was confronted with the embarrassing conclusion that he was ALONE in his opinion.

Feeling sympathetic to his predicament, I put out a call to the HA faithful far and wide to step forward and offer their support of Don Joe, hoping this would turn things around. DJ and I gave this 24 hours, fully believing there would be a groundswell of support for him after this amount of time.

Were we correct? Let’s do a count of those of came to Don Joe’s defense (see the thread above!). Here’s the updated list of those on HA who believe Don Joe is a valued member of the HA community:

1. Don Joe

What, that’s it? Let’s do a recount (see the thread above!) and be sure the HA community has been heard loud and clear:

1. Don Joe

DJ, I am so sorry. I actually thought SOMEONE might step, or at least fall, forward.

Well, I guess cyn WAS correct regarding your assessment of yourself:

It does only exist in that fat head of yours!
