Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) may not have been the first Republican to attempt to politicize the failed, Christmas Day crotch-bombing attack, but he has turned the rhetoric up a notch by being the first to demand Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s resignation.
It should be remembered that in the wake of 9/11, Democrats rallied behind President Bush, giving him a free hand in Afghanistan, and ultimately in Iraq. But had Al Gore been president at the time, you can be sure that the Republican majority in Congress would have used the greatest intelligence failure in U.S. history as justification for impeaching him.
Much as I hate to say it, Dems have to stop playing nice, cause the repubs certainly are not.
That’s because our current crop of Republicans are crooks and crazies.
Our current crop of Democrats, on the other hand, are useless tools. As evidenced by their rallying around a President that: faced with a wold changing event told his people to go shopping, held back troops that were needed in Afghanistan, passed the prewritten Patriot Act that violated our civil rights and liberties and did nothing to keep us safe, and invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and wasn’t a threat to anyone.
…and, as I seem to recall, the Rethugs are also holding up some key political appointments (such as in Homeland Security) for their own political reasons. Dems, especially Obama, do need drop their whiffle balls and pick up the hard ball.

This event was politicized the moment administration officials appeared on the Sunday talk shows to spin the attack, with Napolitano’s epic “the system did not fail” claim being exhibit number one. Obama’s solemn statement today – which COMPLETELY reverses Napolitano’s Sunday spin – is just more spin and nothing more than an effort to blunt the growing controversy over the administration’s halting response as Obama vacationed in Hawaii. The administration wants to show that Obama is on top of and ahead of this threat.
The fact of the matter is it’s virtually impossible to know what planet Napolitano was on when she made her claim.

ok, here’s what everyone has been waiting for . . . the verdict on Don Joe. Recall, yesterday DJ claimed he made valuable and “substantive” contributions to HA. When challenged to find ANYONE on HA other than Darryl who would agree with this assessment, he was unable to. At that point he was confronted with the embarrassing conclusion that he was ALONE in his opinion.
Feeling sympathetic to his predicament, I put out a call to the HA faithful far and wide to step forward and offer their support of Don Joe, hoping this would turn things around. DJ and I gave this 24 hours, fully believing there would be a groundswell of support for him after this amount of time.
