Some citizens are upset with Port of Seattle Commissioner Pat Davis:
Davis, who has been a commissioner for 22 years, is accused of malfeasance and misfeasance for her role in signing a memo extending payments of retired port Chief Executive Mic Dinsmore’s $339,841 salary by up to one year past his retirement date.
[King County Superior Court Judge Charles] Mertel ruled that the allegations of wrongful conduct in office are legally and factually sufficient to merit allowing the petition to continue.
“These are sad things when public officials are called to answer to charges like these,” Mertel said after issuing his decision, which allows the petition’s charges to be condensed into a 200-word ballot synopsis to be reviewed by his court Thursday.
“Maybe it is well justified, maybe it isn’t, but obviously the voters will have to answer that.”
The next step for Davis will be to appeal to the state Supreme Court. If not, or if she loses there, the “pro-recall” folks will need to get 149,124 signatures to place the recall on the ballot.
(Postman has more.)
Man…if only the process could be that simple for the PUSA!

Hello.
Daryl, you may want to be careful what you wish for. Couldn’t your wish be turned around on a state level? Remember in politics, when it comes to the parties, no one is innocent.
Richard Pope spews:
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer covered this story as a news item, which appears in their printed paper. The Seattle Times only “covered” this story of the judge’s decision yesterday in Postman’s blog, and not in their printed paper.
Exact same thing happened when the Public Disclosure Commission fined the King County Republican Central Committee $40,000 two weeks ago — the Seattle P-I put that in their printed paper, and the Seattle Times only in Postman’s blog.

149,124 signatures to begin the recall of a Port Commissioner?
I’m not familiar with the recall procedures for a port commissioner, but I’m not sure that you’ll be able to find that many people that would know a port commissioner from a porthole. That’s far more votes than she received when she was elected (107,609).
While I wish the recall folks the best of luck, I’m not sure that she has all that much to worry about. Not an issue that I can do anything about, as I don’t live in that area, but it looks quite a bit like someone is tilting at a windmill from over here.

I need to drive my carbon spewing SUV today and I’m feeling really guity about it. I need to make a donation to your religion by buying some “carbon credits” to assuage my guilt.
Where can I buy them?

149,124 signatures to begin the recall of a Port Commissioner?
Port Commission is a King County wide office. There was 635753 ballots cast in the Nov 2006 election. 149,124 is do able. But it will not be easy. Finding 149,124 people that know what the port commission is will be a problem. But you can always just tell the wingnuts she raise your taxes, then they will sign anything
BigGlen spews:
#3, By the way in Nov 2005 Pat Davis got 222863 votes.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@4 Sorry, Redneck, but according to today’s news reports the Southern Ocean ran out of space for more CO2 — so you’ll either have to walk, or suffocate on your own tailpipe fumes.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Actually, the guy who came up with the idea of creating a market in “carbon credits” is a pretty smart fella, and the real dumbshits are the wingnut jackasses like MTR who not only don’t understand the global warming threat but make fun of those who do.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Davis iconizes our arrogant, bloodsucking, out-of-control port.
K spews:
MTR emits more gas from his person than his vehicle

So tell me, what’s so unusual about current temperatures?

Moonbat religion quiz: Which one is correct?
1) Carbon dioxide causes global warming.
2) Global warming causes carbon dioxide.
Correct answer later after I see how fucking gullible and stoopid you all are…

My bad on the numbers. Somehow I got linked to a King County page with only a partial count. (My son hates it when I say things like “my bad”.)
Your call on talking about taxes might well be the best way of getting people fired up. Especially considering that the Port of Seattle is running a budget surplus while continuing to collect property taxes.
Let’s see. High property taxes, while wasting a surplus by giving unearned bonuses to cronies.
Yes, that should work. Heck, I’m just sorry that I can’t sign it myself. (Wrong county)
Oh, and I see that Mr. Redneck is back, displaying his usual wit and wisdom regarding topics having nothing to do with the current thread.
I’m pretty sure that Mr. Redneck wouldn’t know a “correct answer” if it bit him.
Still, we’re always happy to see Mr. Redneck. He displays the reasoning ability of the far-right wing of the Republican party at its finest.
Yes, Mr. Redneck, you are an example that all of us in the Democratic party truly appreciate.
Richard Pope spews:
Is Mic Dinsmore a “producer”? $339,841 salary, supported by a $65 million plus tax levy, that subsidizes big business.
K spews:
MTR @12-
As is you know squat about bicarbonate equilibrium equations and the relation of pH, temperature and CO2 levels in the atmosphere.
ArtFart spews:
Mark, it’s really very simple. Quit your bitching and cheerfully pay your taxes to help support mass transit. That way, you’re subsidizing someone else getting out of his or her gas buggy so you can keep driving yours.
Hey, some of the time it’ll be me. That way you won’t be as likely to be hampered by the guy in the big grey Mercury who’s in the habit of driving like he’s got a raw egg between his foot and the accellerator.
ArtFart spews:
12 Well, from what i’m reading these days, it appears it’s actually (3.) all of the above.
You’ve heard of unstable equilibrium? Positive feedback systems? Here’s a hint: Picture world-wide climate patterns being a little like the original “Galloping Gertie”. Now, think of yourself as the guy in the black Ford coupe.
Tree Frog Farmer spews:
@17 God, that it were MTR (Jeff) in the black Ford coupe.
Tree Frog Farmer spews:
Speaking of which, Jeff, I guess I’ll just have to swing by the”trailer court” just north of Greenlake and see exactly what kid of “SUV” you have parked outside.
Mark The Redneck KENNEDY spews:
Holy shit, I guess I was wrong. Now even movie stars are saying it’s true. I better change my ways.

16 – No, what I want is for DOT to implement HOT lanes on all “freeways” so that The Takers get stuck in the general purpose lanes, and The Producers can get where we need to be.
Sorta like carbon credits… let the market handle the problem. Those of us who can afford it get to move. The rest of you can sit there since your time isn’t worth much.
K spews:
If we could harvest the energy off the steaming piles of BS MTR emits we would solve our energy problems.

Perhaps when I toggle people’s memories, they will be willing to sign Pat Davis recall petitions I plan to circulate myself. I’ve been watching this lady’s shenanigans for YEARS, ever since the Good Will Games, & frustrated that the dumb voters kept voting her in! Points to Ponder – Remember, this lady was the primary mover and pusher behind:
– WTO World Trade Talks. What fun were the resulting demonstrations just before Christmas in the downtown? So much mahem, many businesses lost a huge chunk of their yearly income because shoppers were fearful of being pepper sprayed.
– Yanking Christmas Trees at the Airport. Pat Davis was the one who ordered those pagan symbols carted out because she didn’t wish to display a Menorah. Due to the outrage, the ‘Holiday Trees’ were carted back in, but I’m sure the whole charade cost a pretty penny.
– Pricey Junkets on the taxpayers dime. She might not have earned a whole lot of income on the parttime salary, but she sure made up for it with her first class world travels.
If that doesn’t work, I might point out to potential signers how Pat Davis’ pet project, the Good Will Games back in the early 1990’s, sucked underhanded subsidies by unknowing City Light ratepayers at the time. Actually, when Ms. Davis started pushing the latest world sports venture a few years ago, I wrote emails to each & every City Council member. I detailed HOW City Light absorbed all their overtime costs for the Good Will Games and how the crews all laughed that it was the easiest OT they ever earned!
In case of power outages for the duration of the games, CL needed to man several substations 24/7, tucked it under the “Maintenance” budget. Most likely there were plenty of Linemen & Cablesplicers standing by too. After asking for one, I was told by a manager there would NOT be a specific work order issued to identify the true costs. In my email to the City Council, I wrote about how the extra hidden costs tallied up, OT meals, reqd sickleave, etc. Nick Licata, in particular, responded thanking me. Later I noticed, when the big push was on for that latest (eventually failed) sports venture, the Council specifically asked HOW the games were budgeting for CL costs – as well as Fire Dept and Police.
Yeah, I’ll bet some of the voters might remember Pat Davis. Even if the recall were to fail, though, maybe someone will wake up and smell the rotting fish on the wharfs before they vote her in again next election.

@ 23, Something else I wish it were possible to figure out….
Even though Port Commissioners are part-time employees who, many people say, are earning a mere pittance – I wonder if Port Commissioners receive benefits of Medical and Dental Insurance for themselves as well as their families?
The City of Seattle doesn’t pay a dime towards Retirees’ Medical/Dental insurance. However they DO cover part-time working employee’s Medical/Dental (same as any full-time employee). This year, for the City Retiree-Only (Spouse-Extra), Aetna Prev=$649/mo, Aetna Traditional=$600/mo, crappy Dental Plan=$67/mo.
For a Port Commissioner, if Medical/Dental were provided that would make a nice little package; in addition to travel junkets, being wined & dined 1st Class, part-time salary for not too many working hours per month, free tickets galore to failing maritime museums that can’t cough up the rent payments.
Richard Pope, seriously I wish you could/would fun for a position. Run Richard Run! Clean Up That Port!!!
FricknFrack, Seattle spews:
Opps! @ 24, That was
Run (not fun) for a position. Run Richard Run!
Guess I got to salivating too much about Port “perks” and got carried away.
