Good morning. I think it’s allergies since an antihistamine helps but I have been feeling gross for the last few days. So this may be even less coherent than usual.

But! I do want to say: It’s filing week. And you know what that means. You, yes you: You can run for office. Lots of local offices and people like you, but critically not you yet are putting their name forward.

The Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally gets together tonight to provide a forum for political discussion. And, you know…just unwinding. Stop by if you can.

The legislature adjourned Sine Die over the weekend. Some stuff passed that even recently seemed impossible: Rent stabilization, even if it’s not as far as I would like, and parking reforms especially seemed like impossible tasks just a few years ago.

And yet. And yet. Without a wealth tax, the budget is still cuts heavy. Shame.

I am still going to tell you to write to your legislator, but things aren’t as urgent now that the session is over.

– Trans kids can still play sports in Washington.

– The state budget may be more cruel to homeless people in right of ways than it is currently.

– Did you know, you can contact your legislators and members of Congress? It’s true!

I have said it before. Tariffs can be part of sound industrial policy. Even rather large ones. But they shouldn’t be the entire policy. So yeah, when they hurt industries, and there isn’t a whole suite of policies offsetting that, it’s just garbage. I worry Trump’s gross incompetence could hurt future politicians’ ability to do it right.

It is election day in Washington state. So fill out that ballot, drop it off at a drop box and then join us for an evening of politics and conversation over a pint at the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally.
