Calling phone sex and the sending of nude pictures to multiple women e-flirting, is blatant padding. It’s the same mindset that allowed Weiner to lie for a week, hoping he could contain the event. I happen to agree that Vitter should resign. But if you want to appear credible, don’t try and minimize the obvious. Words have meaning. Flirting is much more innocuous.

Influential Democrats are now calling for Weiner’s resignation, and of course he should go. You would never see this from Republicans. Hypocrites indeed! Their mantra is to cling to power no matter what. For them, winning is everything, and morality counts for nothing. Hence all the lying, corruption, and dirty tricks. Yes, the Republicans are dreadful. Yes we should talk about them in relation to this and other stories, but not to the expense of getting our message out about who we are and what we are about. Which is what’s happening. Turn on the tube, go to a meeting of lefties and you’ll hear plenty about the Republicans and little about the left. We could declare a Republican free we, but even then we’re defining it by their absence, not our presence. See what I’m getting at? It seems really simple and obvious to me.

If we sit down and talk about who we on the left are, what we believe in, what we’ve done, what we want to do in the future, is there a place in there for a congressman who spends his free time sending out unsolicited pictures of his crotch? At least one of the recipients of his pictures described his behavior as creepy. How does supporting him fit in with the struggle for women’s rights and equality? How does it fit with equality among social and economic classes?
