All here should learn to live and love wikipedia.com
Because Wikipedia is distributed under the GNU, any other website can duplicate its contents. It is perfectly fine and legal for answers.com to copy it.

Davidspews:
Conservatives have been telling us for a long time that we need a smaller government; that government is the problem, not the solution; that everyone has to take responsibility for themselves and not wait for the government to help you.
The federal government’s tepid response to hurricane Katrina was a triumph of conservative ideology.
Don’t rely on the government to help you. The government will not help you. It’s not there to help you. It should not be helping you. If you’re poor and stuck in New Orleans when a Category Four hurricane hits, fuck off, it’s your own damn fault. You should have gotten rich and gotten out beforehand. If you had escaped poverty (a trivial task requiring only fortitude, good grammar, morals and education), you could have escaped New Orleans on your own and you wouldn’t be begging for help. Government is not here to help the wretched, teeming masses, it’s to facilitate things for those of us who are privileged and successful; its role is to protect our property and lives and otherwise basically let us do what we want. That’s how the System works.
The trouble is, Americans are now horrified by the consequences of letting that ideology run America. We WANT our government to help. That’s what we think it’s FOR. So now, belatedly, out come the platitudes (along with plenty of blame-the-victim commentary on the side) and the reconstruction plans (that will almost certainly benefit the well-connected at the expense of the poor, and will be paid for with cuts to social aid programs rather than (horrors!) with revenue from progressive taxes).
Maybe this will lead people to doubt the value of the conservatives’ “small-government” mantra. But that motto was already a sham, ever since the Republicans controlled the Congress and the White House and learned about power. No, the more things change, the more they stay the same; our brief collective outrage about FEMA’s failures under Bush will fade away and be replaced by more government spending on cronyism, sweetheart deals, contracts and projects on behalf of the well-off and insiders (Republicans and Democrats alike). Nothing new. Conservatism has taken a hit, but the politicians will soldier on.
So: If you had to choose one or the other, would you rail against the way the System works, or try to take advantage of it?

The GNU Public License is a way that some people release copyrighted works. GNU is an organization trying to write a UNIX operating system under that sort of license. GNU stands for “GNU is Not UNIX.” Linux is a GNU-licensed operating system written by Linus Torvalds, for example. The GNU project itself was begun by Richard Stallman.
All material you publish, whether on paper, radio, television, or the Internet, is copyright by you automatically. You can license that material in ways that others can use, however. That is what wikipedia is — a web site where all agree that they are publishing under the GPL. So the material is still copyrighted, but the license allows free reuse under most circumstances.
Ass@14 – You are correct that wikipedia is written by volunteers, and an anonymous person could deface the pages, or any person could insert bias. Here is why I think that does not matter in practice: 1. A friend of mine inserted 24 factual errors into the wikipedia; within 4 weeks all of them had been found and fixed. These ranged from obvious to trivial, and the major errors were fixed within a day. 2. It’s really a chore to maintain a biased page. People with the opposite bias get into ‘editing wars’ and the bias keeps switching back and forth. Eventually, people get tired and give up.

I think that’s very foolish and reckless of APPLE and I would not invest any of my hard earned dollars in a company that will not look out for it’s own interests.
My point though is this: Bill Gates is not so much a developmental genius , but his genius lies, rather, in his unique ability to look at new computer technology and see the broad possible commercial applications of it. Much like the post WWII Japan. I would not deliberately denigrate a truly skillful and generous entrepreneur like Mr. Gates. But I wouldn’t give him credit he doesn’t deserve either.

Did I run the test by you of who is allowed to use the N-word and who is not? It is really simple. “If you are willing and able to walk into Crenshaw, Watts, or even Hilltop Tacoma at 2 am, by yourself, without a weapon, and say the N-word to everyone you see, then your allowed to use it in public (or online, for that matter). If you are not willing to do that, then please reframe from racial slurs. You can easily use substitutes like “N-word” to get your point accross.
I know what some might say; What is the difference? And as a WASP/Male/20 something, I don’t totally understand what the difference is either. What I do know is that word has a long history and a meaning that I am not able to appreciate, due to age, race, etc…, But the fast if not all of the african-american friends/family/coworkers/and so on, I have had in my live, say it makes a difference to them who uses it.
I doubt your a racist, but unless you pass the test, maybe you should talk to some african-american and see if you posting on blogs using that word (in type) makes a difference to them.

Here is something to chew on for a few minutes:
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930’s 40’s, 50’s and 60’s !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms………WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If you were born in any of those decades, YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
But along came the ACLU, ambulance chasing lawyers and the Democratic Party based government regulations and our lives were changed “for our own good”.
So while you are reading this, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the office with scissors, doesn’t it, looking for the Head_up_the_Ass Lucites of the world!

JCH @ 14: $2T/year is not “small government;” like I said, that phrase is hollow now, as Republicans got in charge and and made it bigger and bigger (while paying for less and less of it, I’d note . . . [who are the “domestic economic terrorists?” the minority party?]). It seems their governing philosophy is to take more and more and do less and less that benefits the average American.
Secondly, yes, taxes (income, payroll, sales, and property taxes, and user fees) take a significant bite out of the income of most working Americans. And much less (cf. capital gains and inheritance taxes) from the privileged and well-to-do (who also have tax advisers and tax dodges available). So I think you’re reinforcing my point about the way the System is structured. I’ve taken Econ 101; have you taken Tax Policy?
P.S.: Atlas Shrugged: good book, if you need an allegory against corruption and communism (not exactly where we are today, eh?). Unfortunately, Ayn Rand never addresses the problem that unrestrained capitalism does not cure all ills and does not create an ideal society by itself. At the same time, though, she has blessedly little patience for rich playboys, freeloaders, political manipulation and cronyism. Definitely some lessons to be had there. Anyway, I like The Fountainhead even better, as a paean to individual geatness and work.

Doctors from across the United States poured into Louisiana to offer their services in shelters and hospitals treating Katrina’s victims. They could do nothing. They just sat. You see, they weren’t licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana. It took the amazing Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, five days to sign a waiver to allow these doctors to practice medicine in Louisiana. Five days, while people were suffering and dying. Don’t blame Blanco, though. It was clearly Bush’s fault.[Democrats are amusing, aren’t they?]
But it’s not true that physicians “poured into Louisiana” (there was an evacuation on, remember?) only to “do nothing” except sit on their hands. Anyone who thinks the State of Louisiana would try to prosecute (for unauthorized practice of medicine) doctors assisting the victims of Katrina is living in partisan fantasyland. No, what was actually going on is more accurately summarized by the existence of HelpThemNow.net and the testimonials of emergency doctors posted at The American College of Emergency Physicians.

81
Davidspews:
JCH @ 75: “David, Go to Rush Limbaugh’s free web to see the breakdowns of who really pays income taxes. The bottom 50% of income earners pay damn close to nothing.”
Ah, the artful selection and interpretation of numbers. Yes, we have a progressive income tax; we knew that already. The data Rush posted just show how big an income gap there is between the majority of Americans (poor and middle class) and the elite (rich). The top 50% of income earners in 2000 had 87% of all the reported income that year. The top 25% of taxpayers raked in 67% of all taxable income in 2000. And almost half of all taxable income that year (46%) was in the hands of just 10% of taxpayers. So that leaves 54% of taxable income divided across 90% of the tax-paying population, 33% of total income divided across 75% of the taxpayers, and just 13% of all income divided across 50% of the taxpayers. So it’s pretty obvious that half of American workers weren’t getting paid much. The bottom rate in 2000 (all the way up to $26,250) was only 15%, minus the standard deduction (and you weren’t required to file at all if your gross income was under $7,200). So, um, duh, they didn’t pay a significant percentage of the total income taxes collected that year.
The bottom half of income earners did, however, kick in a lot more (especially relative to their incomes) in payroll taxes (FICA/FUTA) and sales taxes. Meanwhile, the wealthy dodge whatever taxes they can and make money through capital gains (trading stocks) instead of taxable wage income (working).
Wealthy folks have nothing to envy the poor about.

Puddybudspews:
But David was it FEMA’s (Bush’s) fault? You missed the question premise.
JCH: Did you read that Star Wars is really operational and they are using dem lazer beems (me up Scotty) to create artificial atmospheric conditions by creating empty air areas to modify the storm track to dem po peeples? Kind of reminds me of the empty air spaces between the ears occupying the carnial orifices of many donks on this board!!! Oh shit, I just let the cat out of the bag? Sorry Karl Rove!!!
83
Puddybudspews:
David, the numbers are from the US Guvmint. He didn’t massage them.
I dug this back up. It’s from one of my favorite sites Fact Check.Org. I use this site to provide veracity to many things I spout. http://www.factcheck.org/article281.html
Oh and Lucite, when your read it, (pull your head out of yer ass), you’ll see that you got your Pell Grant unfacts direct from dinkum (oops…) Kerry himself. Not true. Another Lucite transparent lie dispelled by de pudzter.

JCHspews:
80.David…I bet you were just outraged at John Kerry and Threeerrraaa Heinz paying taxes at only 12% MTR. Yes, I bet you just couldn’t vote Democrat in 2004 because the “rich” Kerry-Heinz were not paying their “fair share”. Comment, David?? [BTW, remember when Hillary deducted Bill’s underwear donations? Classic!! You stupid libs are a parasitic joke.] Atlas has Shrugged.
85
JCHspews:
Hey david……Remember when Al and Tipper Gore opened up their 1040 in 2000? They made over 500 grand, and his TOTAL charitable contribution was like 300 bucks? I’m sure you were so outraged you didn’t vote for this rich, greedy, hateful white elite couple not “paying their fair share”. You libs are really stupid or you’re Marxists. Which is it, David?
86
JCHspews:
Is there room to debate whether or not the federal taxpayers ought to pick up the tab for rebuilding New Orleans? Of course, and we’ll have those conversations. Why, for instance, should the taxpayers step forward to rebuild a home that was (a) located behind a levee and sitting below sea level, and (b) wasn’t adequately insured? Actually, though, there are going to be two debates. The first is over whether or not it is the taxpayer’s responsibility to foot the bill, and the second will be over whether or not taxes ought to be raised to cover the tab.
Democrats have been trying for years to increase taxes on the evil and hated rich. Liberalism appeals to those who have not achieved. Liberalism is the philosophy of anti-individualism. Individual achievement and excellence must, then, be discouraged and punished. What better way to punish evil individuals who dare to rise above the masses than to simply seize the fruits of their labors? In the world of Democrats and liberalism accomplishment, achievement and individualism must be punished. This is why Democrats will work hard to make sure that taxes are increased to pay for Katrina recovery. Not taxes on everybody, mind you .. but taxes on the wicked rich.
[Oh David, Are you still around, or do you have your head in the sand like an ostrich?]

Puddybudspews:
JCH: In 1997 Al Gore paid $353 in charitable contributions. So he had to be guilted when he saw the Katrina mess. I must make amends. Well Al I do applaud you. You did very well. I will withhold judgment on one rant.
“Louisiana Officials Indicted Before Katrina Hit
Federal audits found dubious expenditures by the state’s emergency preparedness agency, which will administer FEMA hurricane aid.” – But no money went to LA for flood control – HA lefties. FEMA cut the grant monies. – Damn I hear voices in the woodwork. Oh… it’s just the lefties muttering to themselves.

GBS: Latest on the 9/11 Omission Report. Now there are five in the Pentagon who admit Able Danger DID exist. Gen Pete Schoomaker, the one Shaffer said told him to stand down may have to testify? Hmmm… This happened on Saturday my Sabbath and I was flying yesterday. Please start here: http://www.foxnews.com/printer.....06,00.html
Press Conference of Rep Curt Weldon: 9/11 Commission and Operation “Able Danger” 9/11 Commission suppressed the evidence
September 17, 2005
US House of Representatives
Yes don*****don, your favorite peeples, the 9/11 Omission have some big time explaining to perform. Hey, I just find the news to report here on this blog, since many lefties don’t want to know what is really happening beside their hatred of GWB.
90
Puddybudspews:
Part of Weldon’s talk GBS!!! Here is a HOLY SHIT moment.
“The first week the story broke in the New York Times, I was in Pennsylvania that Friday doing district work and I got a call at my office. My chief of staff took the call, and it was from a person I’d never met in my entire life. I’d never mentioned her name. She was on vacation and asked my chief of staff for me to call her back.
Her name was Jamie Gorelick.
I said, “What does she want, Russ? I don’t know the woman.” I said, “I’m tied up. Would you please call her back and ask her what she wants?”
WELDON: Russ called her back on her cell phone. She was on vacation. And her response to my chief of staff was, “Please tell Congressman Weldon I’ve done nothing wrong.”
Am I correct, Russ?
There are a lot of things here that leave a lot of unanswered questions.
I don’t know why Al Feltzenberg (ph) got mad. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know why Al Feltzenberg (ph) came out the first day the New York Times asked him and said they were never briefed. And the second day, he said they were briefed, but they never mentioned Mohammed Atta. On the third day, he said, “Well, we were briefed and they did mention Mohammed Atta, but only in passing and it was too late.”
How many times can you change the story?
There’s something deeper here that I don’t understand, but that the American people need to have the answer to. And the only reason I’m doing this today is because the 9/11 Commission came out with their presentation yesterday that to me is just outrageous.
I listened to it. I read the transcript. And to read the statement of Slade Gorton, it just turned my stomach.
First of all, let me say this to you: I’ll believe Commander Philpott (ph) 100 times before I’ll believe politician Slade Gorton.
Scott Philpott (ph) jeopardized his entire naval career to state emphatically that he will swear on his career that they knew about not just Able Danger, but Mohammed Atta and ties to the Brooklyn cell in January and February of 2000. I believe Scott Philpott (ph).”
No commentary. Just read the press conference.
91
Puddybudspews:
More stuff below: I remember some asseshorse lefty saying Larry DiRita said nothing was found. Well if it was purposely destroyed of course.
“WELDON: This is not just about a chart. I’ve showed you 13 charts here. This is about 2.5 terabytes of information about Mohammed Atta and Al Qaida, the group that attacked us. It’s not about one chart, the chart that I gave to Hadley, with Dan Burton present with me in the White House.
And for them to just try to brush this aside and hope it goes away — the same problem that you identified I was told by Fox News that the press guy over at the Pentagon actually went in the room and told Fox News and the New York Times, “When you going to let this story go?”
This is the largest disaster in the history of the country. I mean, it would be like saying we don’t want to know the details of Pearl Harbor. Three thousand innocent people were killed; the Congress, Democrats and Republicans, want the answers; why are we not getting straight talk? Why is there a constant effort to spin?
Why would you say, as Larry Di Rita said from the Pentagon after referring to Tony Shaffer and Scott Philpott’s (ph) recollections, “Well, you know, memories sometimes play games on people.”
Well, how about now that they’ve acknowledged five people recalling seeing Mohammed Atta’s photograph and the linkage to the Brooklyn cell?
And how about now the witness that’s going to testify that all this data was deliberately destroyed, in spite of the fact that the general was not aware his material was being destroyed?
There are just too many unanswered questions.”
92
Puddybudspews:
I also remember some lefty asseshorse saying how can you believe a person with a cell phone problem and his security clearance being lifted. I know who said it like the comment above. Does COVERUP ring a bell here? Ding Ding Ding Ding!!
WELDON: I’ve been told that the woman at the FBI has e-mails that will verify the meetings.
I can tell you that Tony Shaffer will tell you his e-mails, all classified, on his system, were deleted. They were deleted during the time that he could not get access because they had temporarily lifted his security clearance.
WELDON: And that in itself is absolutely outrageous.
You’ve all seen the charges they’ve trumped up against him, which were that he transferred a cell phone that amounted to $60 while he was working over in Afghanistan undercover to his personal phone, and that he had gotten reimbursed for mileage to a training course at Fort Dix that they said he wasn’t entitled to even though it was a military training program which is $109.
And for that, they temporarily lifted his security clearance, conveniently after he gets back and had told the 9/11 Commission staff all the documents were in his office at DIA headquarters, but he could not get back into DIA headquarters because they had temporarily lifted his clearance for these three stupid allegations. But all during this time the Army’s paying him $100,000 a year as a military officer — and, oh, by the way, during that time they promoted him to lieutenant colonel.”
93
Puddybudspews:
Which GBS, comes back to Sandy Burgler. What was he purloining at the Nat’l Archives?
Berger purloined all draft revisions of a key critique of the government’s response to the millennium terrorism threat, a document that detailed Administration knowledge – and inaction – regarding al Qaeda presence in the U.S. in 1999 and 2000. Stolen were crucial notes in the margins of these drafts which reveal the thinking and agendas of the Clinton Administration relating to the mounting terrorist threat.
and
A government official with knowledge of the probe said Berger removed from archives files all five or six drafts of a critique of the government’s response to the millennium terrorism threat, which he said was classified “codeword,” the government’s highest level of document security.”
You see GBS, this is the same time that Burgler steals these documents in Oct 2003, the same time Shaffer was meeting with members of the 9/11 Omission the first time. Shaffer comes back to the states, gets rebuffed by the Omission twice then is sent abroad again. Shaffer comes back in 2004 to find his security clearence lifted by some interesting charges and his documents end up missing. I asked at least a month before was there a connection betwixt Burgler and Shaffer and some asseshorses pooh-poohed me. Well this get smellier as now the MSM is finally looking at this and if they smell a Scoop, they be on it.
Look, I just want all the truth out. If it falls on Clinton fine. If it falls on Bush fine. If it falls on both then we all need to know who did what and why!!!!

David……Oh David……..Clock in and read the last 15 posts.
95
Davidspews:
Puddy @ 83: Yes, I know the numbers Rush posted are original and accurate. It’s just his selection and interpretation that were ‘artful’ and not entirely representative. My analysis at 81 used the same numbers to show realities that Rush didn’t bother addressing.
JCH claimed that “The bottom 50% of income earners pay damn close to nothing.” And that’s just not true, as I pointed out. First, it’s based on the wrong number, the total taxes collected. If one person earned ten million dollars, and was taxed at 0.9% (less than 1 percent!), and another person earned ten thousand dollars, and was taxed at 100% (everything!), the wealthy person would have still paid 90% of all taxes collected. Do you understand, using this exaggerated example, why that’s essentially meaningless? It certainly doesn’t imply, as Rush wants to imply, that the wealthy person is overtaxed.
Second, it ignores the effect of payroll taxes on working taxpayers, and the low capital gains rates on securities and properties traded by wealthy investors. The CBO, however, has published the “Total Effective Federal Tax Rate” under current law for each quintile of income earners (see Table 2, 2004 data): for the bottom 20% of income earners, it was 5.2%; for the second quintile, 11.1%; for the middle quintile, 14.6%; for the fourth quintile, 18.5%; and for the highest quintile, 23.8%. That’s progressive taxation in a nutshell, although it used to be more progressive, before Bush’s tax cuts (the top 1% of income earners paid a total effective federal tax rate of 26.7% in 2004, down from what would have been 33.4% under Clinton’s tax rates). [see your factcheck.org cite @ 83.] Note that in any case people are paying much less of their income to federal taxes than popular lore would have it.
Third, it doesn’t acknowledge that rich individuals have access to tax shelters, low inheritance taxes, etc. that result in their paying even less per dollar of real income, while sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes, rental car/hotel taxes and other fees have a big impact on small wage earners (and proportionally much less on the well-to-do). And that makes our System less progressive (I wish I had numbers to cite, but I think some of that might be hard to quantify).
Rush’s numbers are right, but his conclusions are wrong.
96
Davidspews:
JCH @ 86 tries to equate Democrats with communists (ha!) and Republicans with self-made men a la Ayn Rand’s heroes:
“Democrats have been trying for years to increase taxes on the evil and hated rich. Liberalism appeals to those who have not achieved. Liberalism is the philosophy of anti-individualism. Individual achievement and excellence must, then, be discouraged and punished. What better way to punish evil individuals who dare to rise above the masses than to simply seize the fruits of their labors?”
Now this is just ideological nonsense. Bush cuts taxes on the wealthiest Americans, opening up a gaping hole in the budget, therefore you accuse Democrats (who want to roll back the cuts instead of borrowing more money) of being anti-individual achievement?? That is narishkeit, foolishness. Take a break from the Ayn Rand already and come back to the real world.
There is no such thing as a wholly self-made man in this country. Every fabulously wealthy or successful person has been helped up by government subsidies (obvious and not-so-obvious, including social investments in education, research, technology, infrastructure, legal frameworks, etc.) or personal inheritance. (And with the Republicans’ efforts to eliminate inheritance taxes, we’re encouraging more of the latter). And there’s often a lot of luck involved; both the luck of being in the right place with the right product or idea at the right time, and the luck of being born to a family with the social station and connections that enable a budding entrepreneur to make good. America’s multimillionaires and billionaires agree that they didn’t make it on their own. The myth of the rugged individual succeeding on his own talent and genius (despite government, unions, etc.) is just that, a myth.
Of course, there’s the possibility that God is involved somehow:
During Horace Greeley’s time in Congress, a colleague boasted that he was a self-made man. “That, sir,” Greeley replied, “relieves the Almighty of a great responsibility.”
Moses warned the people of Israel: “Beware… lest you eat and be sated, and build good houses and dwell therein, and your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold increase, and all that you have increases, and your heart grows haughty… and you will say to yourself: ‘It is my own power and the might of my hand that has accumulated this wealth for me'” (Deuteronomy 8:11-17).
But the old tale still rings true:
A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money. The old guy fingered his worsted wool vest and said, “Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel. I invested that nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple and, at the end of the day, I sold the apple for ten cents. The next morning, I invested those ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them and sold them at 5:00 pm for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, by the end of which I’d accumulated a fortune of $1.37.
Then my wife’s father died and left us two million dollars.”
Individual work and achievement is a great thing, but success is no excuse for overweening pride, greed and lack of compassion for those not so lucky or privileged.

JCHspews:

Puddybudspews:
Today is a sad day. A man I truly admired has died, Simon Wiesenthal. If half of the lefties acted as he did, the donks would still be in power.
“Wiesenthal spent more than 50 years hunting Nazi war criminals, speaking out against neo-Nazism (insert neo-Liberal Progressivism) and racism (insert Lucite), and remembering the Jewish experience as a lesson for humanity (insert AMEN). Through his work, he said, some 1,100 Nazi war criminals (donks) were brought to justice.”
You see, when you call us righties neo-cons, and we’re pro-Jewish, pro-Israel. So, iff we are pro-Israel/Jewish and you use neo-con as a racial epithet, then what are you lefties? Con(against)-Israel? Con-Jewish? Racial hate is defined by the words you use. Hence, I called out donk****don on another thread by the hatred he spews each and every time I am called a neo-con. Since I look at the history of Israel from Biblical perspectives, I guess I be a neo-con.
So David, I was called a racist when I called you a Star of David. I am a neo-con racist because I support the Jewish state per Lucite and other flaming asshole lefties. Hmmm… thems be apples and oranges to me!!! So what does that make you if you are against me in my beliefs? I’m public in my beliefs. So are you going to ADMIT we share some common goals and ideals?

Puddybudspews:
Iff is a mathematical term for “if and only if”.
David@above: When you state effective tax rates, what are you discussing? Every tax we pay, if it’s a consumption tax or an income tax is a tax. That’s why Steve Forbes (I’m sure you support his taxation theory) wanted a 17% flat tax with no loopholes or deductions. It’s the lower middle class who is crying foul to this and I can’t figure out why. Using your analogy above, the $1MM earner pays 170,000, while the $10,000 earner pays nothing because his income is below the minimum threshold as I remember. So what does that say to our taxation system? It needs overhauling. Who cries foul on this flat tax? The Kennedy’s, The Schumers, The Kerry’s, The Jesse HiJacksons. But dems be da millionaire donks we say. Yes that’s right and they would lose their loopholes. Kennedy would lose his to the floating car research and booze industry. Kerry to the Heinz ketchup corporation. Schumer to the ACLU, Lawyers Guild and other groups. HiJackson for his use of vitriol to many corporations. The only taxes paid by the $10K wage earner is consumption taxes.
I thought Jesse would be for it because he is still paying child support. I wonder is that from him or Operation Push (didn’t he practice that for a few minutes inside of Karen Stanford. Lucite, why don’t you discuss the daliances of Jesse Jackson. Oh… that’s right; you only see red if they are a Republican.

‘Bush cuts taxes on the wealthiest Americans, opening up a gaping hole in the budget…’
If you keep saying it, it becomes true? Why then, are tax receipts up significantly, especially the capital gains and corporate taxes? Before answering please remember the dems mantra in 2004 – the economy is worse than any back to FDR.
The hole in the budget is due to spending, not low tax receipts.

(unlike GWB, who has been raining favors down on the wealthy and well-connected, with money borrowed from future middle-class taxpayers. Sigh.)
CENTCOM still identifies a US citizen as: A U.S. citizen or someone who is in the country legally. Hmmm…
106
Davidspews:
Pud @ 99: “iff we are pro-Israel/Jewish and you use neo-con as a racial epithet, then what are you lefties?”
1. neocon is not a racial epithet, it’s a political descriptor.
2. iff (if & only if) makes no sense in that sentence. iff means A -> B and B -> A.
3. liberals and progressives and other non-neocons are also pro-Israel and Jewish (yes, we agree on that), so your logic experiment falls apart. Sorry.

Puddybud @ 100, re: effective tax rates: “what does that say to our taxation system? It needs overhauling.”
I’m not sure that follows. I’m not familiar with the details of Steve Forbes’ flat tax plan, but what recommends his non-progressive approach other than the claim that he would eliminate all loopholes and deductions? Why not just keep what we’ve got, and eliminate all loopholes and deductions?
Not that you’ll get anywhere suggesting the elimination of, e.g., mortgage interest deductions and charitable giving deductions . . . tax policy is more than just how to collect revenue.
109
JCHspews:

Davidspews:
NoWonder @ 101: It’s right whether or not I say it. You are wrong. Relative to GDP, spending is not unusually high but tax revenues are unusually low: last year, federal revenues were at their lowest level as a share of GDP since 1959. The Bush tax cuts are a major factor in our budget deficit (i.e., growing debt).
See Center for Budget and Policy Priorities (analyzing OMB figures): http://www.cbpp.org/7-23-03bud.htm
July 2003 report on tax cuts and deficit
http://www.cbpp.org/8-16-05bud.htm
August 2005 report on budget and economic outlook (note section halfway down, “Deficits Will Remain Large If the 2001 and 2003 Tax Cuts Are Extended”):
Based on the official cost estimates by the Joint Committee on Taxation, and accounting for the increased interest payments caused by borrowing to finance the tax cuts, the cost of the tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 is equal to about 2 percent of GDP this year, while this year’s deficit equals 2.7 percent of GDP.
2 / 2.7 = 74% of the budget deficit.
Incidentally, the reason for higher corporate taxes last year was the expiration of the depreciation bonus tax cut in 2004, as firms hurried to get in under the wire (a one-time event), along with high corporate profits (the one part of the economy that’s been booming, to the exclusion of most of the population).
The budget gap is primarily lack-of-revenue driven, not uncontrolled-spending driven.
112
Davidspews:
Here’s an interesting economic analysis:
Advocates of Supply-Side economics have apparently never realized that when they recommend across-the-board income tax cuts and matching reductions in government spending, they are proposing a policy that—all else equal—is guaranteed to either cause a recession or make any ongoing recession worse. Across-the-board income tax cuts are contractionary (assuming matching spending cuts) because wealthier recipients of income tax cuts will save some of the extra disposable income they are given. Since not all money that is saved is lent out to borrowers, there is a net leakage of money out of the economy whenever money is saved.
. . . .
The only reason why the Bush Tax Cuts did not plunge the economy into an even deeper recession is because the federal government increased its spending after Nine-Eleven using borrowed money to finance it instead of tax revenue. Unfortunately, the stimulative effect of this increased spending was largely offset by the contractionary effect of the tax cuts. Giving the largest share of a tax cut to rich people who are most likely to save a great deal of it is not a very intelligent thing to do when the economy is struggling to pull out of a recession. The result has been a sputtering and long overdue ‘recovery’ that has created far fewer jobs than almost any economic recovery in American economic history in spite of the added benefit of historically low interest rates.
Darn that filter. I bet it was the words i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t- -r-a-t-e-s that snagged it.

Iff definition per David iff means A -> B and B -> A.
Puddybud’s translation of donk definition: A=Neo-con -> B=Likes Israel and B=Likes Israel -> A=neo-con. That’s not my definition, that’s what you animal hind parts call us Republicans. GBS More Able Danger stuff. Now we know the names of the guy ordered by Schoomaker to destroy the data while another General was pissed that it happened. Now we know the lady PhD who helped create the system identifying Atta.
Erik Kleinsmith former Army Major and Chief of Intelligence of the Land Infomration Warfare Analysis LIWA Project Manager for Intelligence Analytical Training Lockheed Martin Newington, VA – was told to destroy the evidence.
Mr. Shays. In a briefing we had yesterday, we had Eileen
Pricer, who argues that we don’t have the data we need because
we don’t take all the public data that is available and mix it
with the security data. And just taking public data, using, you
know, computer systems that are high-speed and able to digest,
you know, literally floors’ worth of material, she can take
relationships that are seven times removed, seven units
removed, and when she does that, she ends up with relationships
to the bin Laden group where she sees the purchase of
chemicals, the sending of students to universities. You
wouldn’t see it if you isolated it there, but if that unit is
connected to that unit, which is connected to that unit, which
is connected to that unit, you then see the relationship. So we
don’t know ultimately the authenticity of how she does it, but
when she does it, she comes up with the kind of answer that you
have just asked, which is a little unsettling.”
Conspiracies up the ying yang. I’ll wait for Rumsfeld to confirm the Able Danger story that they positively ID’d Atta with actionable intel but opted not to act. It would only benefit the Bush admin to do so. If they can’t, or won’t confirm the story, then they didn’t ID Atta with actionable intel.

David spews:
The Notorius P.I.E. spews:

Puddybud spews:

David spews:

71….David, Go to Rush Limbaugh’s free web to see the breakdowns of who really pays income taxes. The bottom 50% of income earners pay damn close to nothing. If 50 million Republicans merely quit, the parasite Democrats would howl. I say let them!! [Atlas has Shruged]

Robert Kennedy, Jr… [Maxine Lucy….Is that you in the polar black suit? Classic!!
David spews:
It’s true that on September 2 Blanco signed an order allowing any licensed physician to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, whether or not licensed in Louisiana. Tennessee did the same on September 3. It’s also true that that order should have been enacted a few days earlier (Katrina made landfall on August 29).
JCH spews:
79…….Er, David, Because of liability from Democrat trail lawyers named Edwards, Loeb, Goldstein, Goodman, Rosenburg, etc., doctors seem to withhold services when not OFFICIALLY licensed to practice medicine. DUH? Something about lawsuits filed against MDs that you forgot to mention. [Note there were plenty of Democrat trail lawyers around to sue anyone for “civil rights” violations.]

Puddybud spews:
Puddybud spews:
Puddybud spews:
Puddybud spews:
Which GBS, comes back to Sandy Burgler. What was he purloining at the Nat’l Archives?
http://www.brookesnews.com/042607_berger.html
You had to remember this story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....Jul20.html

David spews:
David spews:
JCH @ 86 tries to equate Democrats with communists (ha!) and Republicans with self-made men a la Ayn Rand’s heroes:
But the old tale still rings true:
Individual work and achievement is a great thing, but success is no excuse for overweening pride, greed and lack of compassion for those not so lucky or privileged.
JCH spews:

Puddybud spews:

If you keep saying it, it becomes true? Why then, are tax receipts up significantly, especially the capital gains and corporate taxes? Before answering please remember the dems mantra in 2004 – the economy is worse than any back to FDR.
The hole in the budget is due to spending, not low tax receipts.

See Center for Budget and Policy Priorities (analyzing OMB figures):
http://www.cbpp.org/7-23-03bud.htm
July 2003 report on tax cuts and deficit
http://www.cbpp.org/8-16-05bud.htm
August 2005 report on budget and economic outlook (note section halfway down, “Deficits Will Remain Large If the 2001 and 2003 Tax Cuts Are Extended”):
2 / 2.7 = 74% of the budget deficit.
Incidentally, the reason for higher corporate taxes last year was the expiration of the depreciation bonus tax cut in 2004, as firms hurried to get in under the wire (a one-time event), along with high corporate profits (the one part of the economy that’s been booming, to the exclusion of most of the population).
The budget gap is primarily lack-of-revenue driven, not uncontrolled-spending driven.

This is how Maryland donks treat minorities in the Republican Party. At least when we complain about Ron Tax to the Max Sims, we complain about his failed leadership, failed policies, failed computer systems, failed CAO, failed etc.!!!

More from above: “Audra Miller, spokeswoman for the Maryland Republican Party, said she had not heard of the credit report incident until contacted by The Associated Press.
“I will say I am shocked at how low the Democratic Party will go in their politics to ensure a win. I think it is deplorable those kinds of dirty tricks,” she said.” – Audra, don’t be shocked. It’s donk SOP!!! Yes, you donks are so clean as the driven snow!!!! Face it, the lefties can’t stand having a black man in a high political position not having donk credentials. So much for loving the minorities, eh Lucite? These actions are an anethema to everything you donks have been puking in the MSM and on TV for the past 45 years.

GBS More Able Danger stuff. Now we know the names of the guy ordered by Schoomaker to destroy the data while another General was pissed that it happened. Now we know the lady PhD who helped create the system identifying Atta.
Erik Kleinsmith former Army Major and Chief of Intelligence of the Land Infomration Warfare Analysis LIWA Project Manager for Intelligence Analytical Training Lockheed Martin Newington, VA – was told to destroy the evidence.
http://strata-sphere.com/blog/.....chives/687 more information
Dr. Eileen Pricer is the lady. From:
http://www.armscontrolcenter.o.....attack.htm
Mr.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. . . .

Puddybud,
More importantly, got Osama?
Didn’t think so.
Bush’s approval rating on Iraq, the economy, trustworthyness, War on Terror, Katrina et al: is so low that Repubs up for reelection will be avoiding their support for this CiC.

Do you think Bush is capable of making “crisp decisions” while he’s boozin’ it up again?
Me either.
