- What Nick said (except to add that it doesn’t have to be women who were offended).

– We really need universal single payer.

– I want a Democratic Party primary for governor and I want Jay Inslee to win it (probably, but I want that primary to be sure). It looks like it’ll be one or the other.

– Can we at least put disclosure on Citizens United now?

Goodbye Point.

This story about international cricket was really long and way too Boston centric, but I enjoyed it.

What the fuck?

Rick Santorum is against abortion for any reason, with one exception

    by DarkSyde for Daily Kos

Teaparty darling Rick Santorum restated his stern view on abortion last week: it’s murder, no matter what the circumstances. Doesn’t matter if it’s incest, or rape, doesn’t matter if the victim is eleven years-old. This purportedly small government conservative is eager to use the power of The State to force rape victims to bear rapists’ children and jail doctors willing to intervene. Santorum calls any exceptions “phony excuses” and led the charge to outlaw partial birth procedures no matter what the reason. But Santorum is willing to make one exception. Guess which one?

One of Ron Paul’s answers in this week’s debate, although a trifle vague–in and itself unusual for him–implied that if he were working in an ER and someone brought in the child of undocumented aliens, he’d refuse to provide treatment.

In dishonor of Klynical, we should discuss how awesome President Obama is doing in the polls-
    Friday, June 17, 2011

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 22% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19

I’m sure Rasmussen must be off by at least 20 points.

@1 You can’t expect him to let his wife die, can you? And you should be grateful that Santorum recognizes morality is a flexible concept that may require exercise of human judgment, which is why God gave brains to humans. Ooops, my bad, Santorum wants to make it illegal for everyone except those who can afford to go to Canada or Sweden.

Meanwhile, on the campaign trail, Tim Pawlenty is swinging farther to the looney-right and making himself increasingly irrelevant:

“Hey rich folks, Tim Pawlenty wants to cut your taxes. A lot.

“Under the terms of his recently revealed economic plan, Americans in the top 20% of earners would see their taxes cut by an average of $23,500, an 8.6 percentage point drop in their tax rate, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

“And the top 1% would get an annual average reduction of $261,000, a 14.8 percentage point drop.

“Meanwhile, Americans in the lowest 20% of income would see their taxes drop by an average of only $23, a 0.2 percentage point change in their tax rate.

“Put another way, Americans who earn between $40,000 and $50,000 a year will see their after-tax income increase by 1.7%, while Americans who earn more than $1 million will see a 24.1% bump.”

GENEVA — The United Nations issued its first condemnation of discrimination against gays, lesbians and transgender people on Friday in a cautiously worded declaration hailed by supporters including the United States as a historic moment.

Members of the U.N. Human Rights Council narrowly voted in favor of the resolution put forward by South Africa, against strong opposition from African and Islamic countries.

“You just witnessed a historic moment at the Human Rights Council and within the U.N. system with a landmark resolution protecting human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people,” U.S. ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe told reporters after the vote.

Like we’ve been saying for a while the Christianist righties in America really are in fairly close alignment with the Islamic fundies that they constantly wail about.

But we are even in different times now. We are still borrowing money from the Chinese. And, once again, the irony here is incredible. We are going to borrow more money from the Chinese to possibly give them money back to create habitats for wild dogs and cats that are rare.
There is no assurance that if we did that we wouldn’t end up with moo goo dog pan or moo goo cat pan. There is no way to assure that money will not be wasted when it’s sent to foreign countries.

Yeah what a piece of work AND a Republican.

Sonntag’s endorsement of Susie Q. Hutchinson is a deal-killer for me. If he forces Inslee out of the Governor’s race, I would gladly support Ron Sims. OTOH, I would be happy to see Sonntag retire from the Auditor’s office. He is furniture with few (if any) redeeming features.

Careening of Lee’s post (below) ..

Lee thinks our problems arise because the US has adopted Sharia. Since he thinks we oughtn’t to have laws about moral issues (apparently he knows what is and is not a moral issues), I have some questions we can all share:

Anthony Weiner’s wife is a Muslim, shouldn’t Anthony be made to marry three of those offended women?

Or should we just send her back to Saudi Arabia where they punish marrying a jew the right way?

Obama too .. for calling Debbie Wasserman “cute.”
Obama need to resign asap! How about instead, Debbie (who is very Jewish cute!) needs to wear a burka or maybe an REI rain parka like our good NW muslim girls.

Ron Paul refused to care for an immigrant baby. I guess his license as a dentist needs to be lifted!

Dennis the K wants to sue Obama for obeying the UN treaty. Great idea … if Dennis moves here could he sue Canada to get our Gulf Islands back too?

Isn’t the Stranger violating federal law for advertising all that green stuff that cures sick people?

Is it OK for gay guys to go to gay bars?

Goldy thinks its immoral to sell booze at Costco. I agree … we should restrict sales of booze to hardware stores and auto parts stores!

Um… I think Lee’s using Sharia Law as a metaphor or some other form of speech that I learned about in Jr. High. I know you’re not an english professor, but come on dude. We’re talking Jr fucking high english and reasoning skills.

    Michael

Thanks for the help, without that I might have mistakenly thought Lee was making a prejudicial remark about Islamic Law!

Since my prejudices tend to run against Christian law making, I think I would have picked on the Baptists instead. For one thing, at least Shariah doesn’t mandate monogamy. If Romney’s ancestors had Baptist law we would not have a Romney now!

Them Baptist laws and morals seem pretty cool .. they even ban sexting! Didja see how how their moral law was outraged that the rat nosed Jew Wiener showed of his man tits to a lady!

Personally, living in gay friendly Seattle, I think man tits are fine. Not sure, however, how we decided that it is immoral for three gay ladies to make a trio? Don’t remember that in Sharia! Must be aBaptist thing!

And then there was at other Jewish guy .. a Franchie, who had his way with the hired help. Good thing we got good church law here to teach US morals! over in France where they seem to think that having a mistress or two is a pretty good thing!

BTW … wonder what Lee thinks abut Sharia law as it applies to concubines or shylocking? Diddnja know that Sharia forbids loaning money at interest! Since we are obsessed with leverage, I guess Lee is wrong about Sharia here!

Back at sex, I always did admire Dovid and Schlomo .. two Jewish heroes before Kahn and Weiner. Seems as if in those days harems were pretty moral!

Mohammed gave us Sharia and he had a lot of ladies too! Guess WA state noesn’t have Sharia! here in WA state where the we arrest sex workers even if they give VERY good service! Where is that come from? As I read the bible I don’t remember any law against goyem selling sex. Is this more of the Sharia?

One of my faves is the moral law (SHARIA?) that bans pate du fois gras from NY restaurants and the King Co law that bans exhalation of water vapor in public places cause it might lead to folks smoking evil stuff like tobacco!

Back at pot, I agree with Lee .. though not with his choice of metaphors. Pot ought to be legalized. I am sure Phillip Morris will be real happy about this too!

It is apparent that the rich can’t keep this economy going. If 2/3 of the economy is all about spending, you better give those that have no money so money to spend, it you don’t give them money to spend by cutting their wages but giving them low taxes.
