    Boeing’s announcement today of yet another delay to the completion of the 787 (6 times!) will surely lead to more local layoffs as the executives look to recoup the cost of their incompetence.

    Sad that the once great “family” of our local Boeing has fallen so far.

    # 2: I’m waiting for the next wingnut to claim it’s all the fault of the Union strike some two years ago.

    I think it was a couple of weeks ago I read about an “uncontained failure” of a Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine in the testing program. Apparantly this was one of the jets used for “fatigue testing” (i.e., running it constantly for a lot of hours to determine how it will work after a few years of use). An “uncontained failure” means that something in the engine – probably a turbine blade – broke and flew off the engine, perhaps through the engine cowling. This is an extremely dangerous event, as it poses the danger of a broken engine throwing debris through the wing fuel tanks and passenger cabin. I’m assuming that this is what Boeing is referring to as they attempt to blame Rolls Royce for the current delay.

    But there are still lots of problems in major assembly sections being received from the vendors, all causing re-work issues by Boeing machinists in Everett and at the flight test centers. The latest was the discover of another round of problems deep within the horizontal stabilizers (the wing-like things on the tail of an aircraft).

    This morning a number of Boeing workers were talking about their “787 emergency kit”. It’s a small package containing a bottle of water, a swizzel stick, and a package of Kool-Aid. As they joked among themselves, generous applicatin of this aid kit will solve all problems.

    Republican Susana Martinez earns her highest support yet against Democrat Diane Denish in the race to be New Mexico’s next governor.

    The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Martinez picking up 48% support, while Denish, the state’s current lieutenant governor, earns 43% of the vote. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

    The two women were tied in the past two surveys conducted in May and June after Denish led Martinez, a county district attorney, by 19 points in the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the race in late March.

    The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-four percent (44%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -17.

    Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on all 10 of the important issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports.

    You KLOWNS have repeatedly told us how intelligent the ImamObaMao is. So if I concede your intelligence point, there is only 1 other reason he is saying & doing so many stupid things to crush Democrat’s popularity…

    Totally off topic:

    I saw you. You happened to arrive just as my phone rang. You had a “No Blood for Oil” sticker in your window. Then I watched you get in the Starbucks drive-thru line seven deep and idle your small SUV for 14 minutes. I know it was 14 minutes ’cause you pulled away just as I hung up.

    We probably share a lot of positions on the war. But I’d really like to beat the tar out of you. Wouldn’t want your drive-thru convenience to suffer slightly in the interest of “No Blood for Oil?”

    OTOH I saw a large pick-up today with a decal of a bald eagle with strips of American flag background dangling from tallons and beak. That sends a mixed message don’t you think?
