Check this out. The quality of Republican candidates has fallen to the level of their followers. They will be out of power for a least a generation; and if the Democrats don’t fuck it up, for two or three.
Tom Harkin Latest Victim of McCarthyism
By Matthew Rothschild, October 30, 2008
The Republicans have gone way beyond the Palin with their McCarthyite tactics, and the latest person to be smeared is Iowa’s longtime Democratic Senator, Tom Harkin.
His Republican opponent, Christopher Reed, called him “the Tokyo Rose of Al Qaeda and Middle East terrorism.”
Those remarks came in a forum on October 30 broadcast on Iowa public TV and sponsored by the Des Moines Register, the paper reported.
Reed also said that Harkin was “anti-American” and was “providing aid and comfort to the enemy,” which is the constitutional definition of treason, a crime punishable by death.
Harkin said the comments were out of line and predicted: “It’s going to hurt him,” he told the paper.
At the taping, Harkin was heard to say, directly to Reed: “You’re a nice young man, and I thought you had a political future ahead of you. But that just ended your political career right there.”

He ran for 4 offices simultaneously while under simultaneous indictments on half a dozen corruption charges. And instead of trying to get elected fair and square, he he tried to game the election by exploiting a loophole in Tennessee election law that prohibited candidate substitutions less than 30 days before an election. Looper figured he was sure to win if he had no opponent, so he murdered the popular state senator he was running against 29 days before the election.
Unfortunately for Looper, his plan went awry in a couple of respects. First, he got caught. Second, he failed to consider the possibility of a write-in candidate. The senator’s widow, as a write-in, got 96% of the votes. Today, she’s still serving in the Tennessee senate and Looper is still serving his life-without-parole sentence at Brushy Mountain Penitentiary.
Looper’s 4% showing sets a standard of electoral performance for all other Republican candidates to aspire to. So far, none have come close. When Motherbeater Irons ran against Ron Sims 2 years ago, he got beaten by cigaret smoke, but he way the hell outpolled Low Tax Looper. Even Mark Griswold, who posted on Sound Politics that he thinks we need another terrorist attack because too many people are voting for Democrats, broke into double digits against Frank Chopp, losing by an 85%-15% margin. Yessiree Bob, it’s gonna be tough to challenge Low Tax Looper’s 4% — you have to be a minor-party candidate to have a shot at it.
But the way things are going the GOP may become a minor party and its candidates will be able to routinely look forward to getting 1% or 2% of the vote. Then they’ll be able to brag that they’re not only less popular than cigaret smoke, but even less popular than Low Tax Looper.

OBAMA: Well, I do think there’s a difference between the parties, but here’s my belief. That I’m talking to voters. And I think they’re a lot of Republican voters out there, self-identified, who actually think that what the Bush administration has done, has been damaging to the country.
And, what I’m interested in, is how do we build a working majority for change? And if I start off with the premise that it’s only self-identified Democrats who I’m speaking to, then I’m not going to get to where we need to go. If I can describe it as not a blanket indictment of the Republican Party, but instead describe it as the Republican Party having been kidnapped by a incompetent, highly ideological subset of the Republican Party, then that means I can still reach out to a whole bunch of Republican moderates who I think are hungry for change, as well.

McCain first wife waited for years for him to get out Vietnam. When he came back he said she looked ugly because she was partly disabled. He had an affair with Cindy while he was still married, dumped his first wife and married for money and lied about his age to her.
To summarize – your “values” candidate dumped his first disabled wife who stood faithfully by him after , had an affair and then married the ultra rich second wife who could boost his political career.
Obama doesn’t even know his half-brother since his Dad left him at age 2.
So – let’s talk values…..idiot.

So what are you going on about? This stupid attack was debunked long ago – check snopes you idiot.
Is this all you have? Pathetic old arguments and stupid slanders?
I notice you can’t talk about issues like the economy. Maybe because you know that the republicans have made the biggest mess since the great depression.
You can tell the integrity, the seriousness and the truthfulness of a campaign and a candidate by the attacks they make. McCain’s sad socialist attack covers up his tax cuts to the rich and the big corporations like Exxon. He is covering up his weaknesses by attacking a straw man.

Put up or shut up Marvin – where is yuour proof? Do you have ANY facts to back up what you say? where are the indictments or convictions? Interesting how NO ONE else has reported on any indictments or convictions.
But we do know that Ted Steven Republican was just indicted for illegal contributions and influence peddling.
We do know that Duke Cunnigham was convicted for his role with Abramoff.
We do know that Tom DeLAY the republican majority leader had a close relationship with Abramoff.
We do know that Bush’s guy in the GAO, David Safavian was convicted for corruption with Abramoff.

John McCain did divorce his first wife after 14 years of marriage and 5 1/2 years of internment in a POW camp, followed by extremely painful physical therapy to treat his war wounds.
He openly and honestly admitted his affairs, took responsibility for his actions, paid for his wife’s medical bills, gave her the two houses, and to this day, is on friendly terms with her. She has said that he is the best candidate to lead America.
John McCain and Cindy Hensely have been married 28 years. During those 28 years, Cindy has suffered from addition to pain killers and a stroke. Still happily married after 28 years.
There is no comparison between John McCain’s first 14 year marriage and Barrack Obama’s family values, of which he seemingly has none.

Yes Joe, lets come together.

What about obama and his illegal fundraising?
I’m sure you’ve heard about it, I’m sure you would rather stick your head back on your hole and ignore it.
Your candidate of change turned off his AVS credit card checking so you can contribute over the legal limit.
Like you said, “Fucking hypocrite.”

It reflects poorly on his policy of spreading the wealth around. He’s not willing to spread his own wealth to help his own family.
It reflects badly on his compassion for his own family.
It reflects badly on him as a member of the human race. If obama was poor, so be it. He’s a multi-millionaire, why isn’t he helping his own family?
How’s his grandmother?
Why couldn’t he visit his mom as she was dying? No compassion?
Marvin Stamn spews:
Do you have any relatives living here illegally?
Can’t he live by the same laws you live by?
Blue John spews:
MADDOW: Well, yes, actually. I mean, other Democrats, you will hear them talk about the GOP as the party that’s been wrong on all the big stuff. Creating Social Security, civil rights, the War in Iraq. But, you don’t really do that. Do you think there is a stark difference between the parties?

$260 in documented illegal contributions from Obama’s Aunt.
Living illegally in this country.
With a brother living in Kenya on $12 a year.
That’s some real family values.
And then we find out that Obama went to Hawaii to seal his birth record?
Is that a fact?
Unbelievable.
Any candidate for the highest office in this nation has a CONSTITUTIONAL duty to make their birth records available.
Michael spews:
@36
So sue him. It’s your CONSTITUTIONAL right after all.
zapporo spews:
Irrelevant @37
Nah. I’ll just send $12 to Kenya to double his brother’s living standard.

@36:
Poor Zaporro – you want to compare?
McCain first wife waited for years for him to get out Vietnam. When he came back he said she looked ugly because she was partly disabled. He had an affair with Cindy while he was still married, dumped his first wife and married for money and lied about his age to her.
To summarize – your “values” candidate dumped his first disabled wife who stood faithfully by him after , had an affair and then married the ultra rich second wife who could boost his political career.
Obama doesn’t even know his half-brother since his Dad left him at age 2.
So – let’s talk values…..idiot.
correctnotright spews:
Moron at 36: Really, you want to show me where it says in the constitution that the candidate for president MUST make their birth records available?
All it says it that a person must be an American citizen and Obama has released his valid birth certificate from Hawaii that shows that.
He is covering up his weaknesses by attacking a straw man.
correctnotright spews:
@34: I think Marvin is here illegally – the mentally deficient are not allowed in the country.
Hey Marvin – how should Obama have stopped the aunt he did not know was here illegaly from being here illegally?
Yup – you make a lot of sense Marvin – to someone who is certifiably insane.
correctnotright spews:
@31: As usual, Marvin is full of accusations but has ABSOLUTELY no proof of illegal activity of any kind by the Obama campaign.
If you do – then show it Marvin. We do know that republicans illegally jammed phones on 2004 and were convicted for it – and we also know that the case is still going because the FBI has stalled on it – because it goes all the way into the White House.
Yup – there IS evidence of republican corruption – but do you have ANY hard evidence of anything from Obama?
zapporo spews:
No Comparison @36
Yes, your lack of critical thinking skills has forced you to resort to name-calling. As ignoble as your conduct is, I will cast that aside and help you understand the truth.
Michael spews:
@44&36
Neither McCain or Obama have campaigned on “family values” or on being holier than thou. I don’t see it as an issue in this race.
zapporo spews:
@45 – Illegal campaign contributions from an Aunt living in the US as an ILLEGAL ALIEN isn’t a family value, it’s a campaign issue.
Ted spews:
Obama can’t even turn over medical records instead a doctors note he’s in good health where is the outrage? Then we have his birth God only knows where. His trip to the island wasn’t to see his dying grandmother but, seal the records.
Why would anyone think he’s a honest person.
When confronted he says I didn’t know,I didn’t see and I didn’t hear or I was …………
Where going to have fun the next 4 years if we survive as a nation.
Puddybud spews:
43. correctnotright spews: @31: As usual, Marvin is full of accusations but has ABSOLUTELY no proof of illegal activity of any kind by the Obama campaign.
Yo, idiot incorrectnottobright and neverbeenright; Newsweek asked the original question about Obama campaign funding. Now others are. Where are all those credit card payments coming from? Still trying to determine where you got your “brain cell” from.
I bet Newsweek already knows but like the LA Times won’t break the story until after Nov 4th.
