    This update from http://www.changeourgov.com

    Gregoire’s transportation mess

    July 31st, 2008

Yesterday the Reason Foundation released a national study ranking the road conditions in all 50 states. Washington ranked 39th in overall performance and cost-effectiveness — down from 32nd place in 2007. The state ranks 42nd in rural interstate condition and 45th in urban interstate condition. Shockingly, Washington ranks 32nd when it comes to deficient bridges; One out of 4 Washington bridges is deemed structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.

You mean like the viaduct? Yesterday the Seattle Times reported that — despite having spent or committed $1 billion in funds earmarked for replacement of the viaduct –the ailing structure still stands. Last month the state Department of Transportation proposed 8 possible replacement options, and tearing down the viaduct and replacing it won’t begin for at least another year. But with $1 billion of the $2.8 billion total already gone, and inflation driving replacement costs up $10 million each month, one has to wonder how much more Christine Gregoire’s lack of leadership on this critical issue is going to cost the taxpayers and her own re-election chances.

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Because we have free speech in this country (or did have … until the Busheviks began arresting people for having bumper stickers they don’t like), and the courts have ruled that government can’t censor or regulate what candidates say, even when their political ads are outrageous lies, then it seems to me if McCain can run ads picturing Obama with Britney and Paris, we have the same right to put up billboards picturing McCain with Hitler. If fact, I think we should! I’m not insinuating that McCain is a Nazi. All I’m saying is, if he wants to play this game, we should play it too! And when he stops, I’ll stop, but not until then.

    mark spews:

@3 At least our women are way, way hotter.
Not even up for debate. You losers are
stuck screwing all the ugly girls.

  4. 6

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Britney and Paris are professional celebrities whose images and names are their commercial stock in trade, and it seems to me they could sue McCain for using their property without permission.

  5. 7

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@5 You should be grateful that someone is willing to screw your mother and sister. Even though they had to pay for it.

  6. 8

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Actually, I’m not upset by McCain’s attack ads against Obama. They make him look like a feeble and cranky old man. Most people are worried about jobs, health care, inflation, and the endless stream of coffins coming back from the GOP’s quagmire in Iraq. I don’t think they’re impressed by McCain’s grandstanding.

    Daddy Love spews:

John McCain is just an old man who worries that, after all these years of fawning attnetion from the press, someone else has their attention. He reminds me of Norma Desmond, the faded movie star who still dreams of making a triumphant return to the screen.

I can just see it the day after Election Day in November: “Alright, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close up.”

And yet the polls continue to tighten up:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.c.....a-225.html

The economy is the primary concern now. The “endless” stream of coffins from Iraq has dropped to its lowest number since the war began. It’s the ones from Afghanistan that are on the rise.

    ByeByeGOP spews:

Man the right is in deep shit if this is the best they can do. Of course it IS the best they can do. The McSame express should be called the fucktard, traitor express.

  10. 15

    Steve spews:

@5 Hell, even Republican men won’t fuck Republican women. The truth is, the uglyness of Republican women goes a long ways in explaining why Republican men are all a bunch of farm animal abusers and pedophiles.

    Steve spews:

@14 I’m a cat person. Now go away!

    Let’s see.

    Liberal…Cat…Pussy. Yep, I buy that.

  12. 18

    Reformed republican spews:

Cynical: guess you have not been paying attention as usual – the roads and transit was voted DOWN by the voters thanks to Republicans crying about taxes.

Republicans are the reason we don’t have transit and roads. When was the last realistic republican proposal for roads and transit and infrastructure – if your answer the laughable Rossi plan that most everyone agrees is a useless piece of dreaming…with no way to pay for it and grossly sophmoric estimates…then you win the prize for lack of leadership too.

    michael spews:

    @15

@5 Hell, even Republican men won’t fuck Republican women.

They’re too busy doing other Republican men and then denouncing gay sex to have time for the girls.

  14. 20

    michael spews:

    @14

I think the key word in that story is “unsubstantiated.” That teachers are protected from rumor mongering and being railroaded is a good thing.

    Jane Balough's Dog spews:

Exactly so they can go on to create more victims like that guy in North Seattle. I wonder if this is what they meant by the public screwls being held to a higher standard?

  16. 23

    Reformed republican spews:

Oh – and the drilling argument – pure puffery – that drilling will do anything to gas prices:

    1. It will have no effect for 10-15 years
    2. Even then it will change prices by all of 1-2 cents/gallon.
    3. And we are EXPORTING more of our oil than ever before – so we will be opening up new domestic oil supplies for EXPORT:

“While the U.S. oil industry want access to more federal lands to help reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, American-based companies are shipping record amounts of gasoline and diesel fuel to other countries.

A record 1.6 million barrels a day in U.S. refined petroleum products were exported during the first four months of this year, up 33 percent from 1.2 million barrels a day over the same period in 2007. Shipments this February topped 1.8 million barrels a day for the first time during any month, according to final numbers from the Energy Department.

The surge in exports appears to contradict the pleas from the U.S. oil industry and the Bush administration for Congress to open more offshore waters and Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.”

    Quoted from Reuters

Oh – and the oil companies had another record quarter (all time) for any business – ever. And McCain wants to open up more drilling areas and give more tax breaks to the oil companies – who use less than 1% of their profits for alternative energy. If we trust and wait on the oil companies – we will slide into the dust bin of history and remain reliant on expensive oil forever. The free market is simply not working with the eneregy monopolies – it doesn’t take an ignorant republican to figure this one out.

    @17 “Liberal…Cat…Pussy”

Association! Well, I’ll be darned. You know, for a troll that’s not half bad. You old dog, I bet you could teach Marvin a few new tricks. Poor Marvin. I hear his therapy isn’t going so well. Relapse or something. So sad.

  18. 25

    Steve spews:

@21 Damn, that’s the first sensible thing I think you’ve said. What’s with you trolls tonight?

  19. 26

    michael spews:

    @22

‘Oh please. The only thing that happens with this is that when there’s a false claim the name of the teacher is redacted.

  20. 27

    ByeByeGOP spews:

Still hoping that someone will ask 1023 year old FlipFlop McSame why he’s still fighting against making POW information public when even his fellow republicans want it. Could it be he doesn’t want us to find out how he helped the VC during the five years they made him an honorary NVA general?

  21. 28

    proud leftist spews:

I used to think McCain was honorable, despite his politics. I thought that because that is what the media has always said about him. The media fawns over McCain because the media is wretchedly rightwing. McCain is not an honorable person. He is a meanassed piece of shit, and his Britney Spears/Paris Hilton ad shows how dishonorable he is. Is there any chance the MSM will ever put this fucker on display? John McCain is not capable of leading a 21st century nation. He needs to retire. Like Ted Stevens, his desire for power has caused him to give up any vestige of integrity he might have ever had.

  22. 29

    FricknFrack spews:

    Wow. Pathetic.
Does McInsane really think that kind of crap will buy him votes? This election has gone on longer that any in history. Voters are tired and turned off more & more. The negative stuff will REALLY turn them away faster. Although, probably a good thing in this case. He really sounds less Presidential, desperate, and kind of senile.

  23. 30

    Blue John spews:

Yesterday the Seattle Times reported that — despite having spent or committed $1 billion in funds earmarked for replacement of the viaduct

What’s the difference between spent and committed?

    Daddy Love spews:

    25 steve

Yeah, when it is cheap, effective, endorsed by all automakers as well as sucessful Republicans Charlie Crist and Ahnuhld Schwarzeneggah, what’s not to agree with?

    Tommy Tompson spews:

I am Republican – I lie, cheat and steal when I’m not being a family man (fat whore) or a crying Hypocrite. Bastard Nazi that I am, Hail Hitler. All dogs should be euthanized.
