Darcy Burner addresses the Take America Back Conference:
(This along with some seventy other media clips from the past week in politics are now posted at Hominid Views.)
Mr. Cynical spews:
Wow-
Darcy Burner is a real exciting leader…reading talking points someone else prepared. Like watchin’ paint dry!
Promise lazy folks more welfare, healthcare, you name it.
Like Obama. Give people something for nothing and they will vote for you.
Empty pantsuit.
Fred spews:
Cynical @1:
Do you have any evidence that someone else prepared her remarks, or are you just making it up?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@1 So in your Wingnut World, someone is “lazy” if they can’t afford healthcare because:
1) Their employer shipped their job to India;
2) The insurer overcharges them so the CEO can make $10 million a year;
3) They’re “uninsurable” because profit-driven insurers refuse to insure anyone who might conceivably need actual healthcare;
4) etc. ad nauseum.
Fuck you and your kind, Cynical. You righties are digging your own political and economic graves, because the cost of/loss of healthcare now represents such a major threat to the physical and financial wellbeing of millions of American families that your stubborn, retrogade policies (e.g., amending bankruptcy laws so medical debts can’t be discharged) is setting the stage for a revolution that will overthrow the whole private, for-profit, healthcare system. When something doesn’t work, people shitcan it. That’s exactly what’s going to happen to Wingnut Healthcare.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Another Wingnut World policy that doesn’t work and is due for the shredder/dumpster: Xenophobic militarism
Roger Rabbit spews:
According to the Mr. Cynicals of the world, if your employer doesn’t offer health insurance (or if you don’t have an employer because there’s no fucking jobs), you’re “lazy” and don’t “deserve” health care.
Here’s Roger Rabbit’s solution to that: Don’t work.
Why the fuck should I work or produce anything unless I get the same deal wingnuts have? I want a high income, employer-paid health insurance, and the same tax rate that capitalists and hedge fund managers get.
Working is now such a bad fucking deal for workers that I’ve declare a 1-rabbit General Strike!!! I do no work, produce nothing — and get paid more, and get a lower tax rate to boot! Sure, I have to pay for my own health care, and can deduct only the cost that exceeds 7.5% of my taxable income, which is not as good a deal as the wingnuts get. But by going On Strike, I get to sleep in, don’t have commuting expenses, and above all don’t take any shit from demanding bosses!!! And my taxes are a lot less. It pays to not contribute!!
That’s why no one should work until workers get the same deal the Owning Class has.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I made $2500 in the stock market this week by doing absolutely nothing. I’ll work when somebody pays me $2500 a week, provides me with employer-paid healthcare, and I get a 10% income tax rate — until then, fuck work!! Why should I do any work when I reap the rewards and benefits of being an Owner?!! Capitalism is great, or at least, sure beats working for a living.

re 1: Talk about reading someone else’s talking points…. You sound like Ronald Reagan speaking in Philadelphia, Miss. over a mike that’s powered by one of FDR’s Rural Electrification Projects.

RonK, Seattle spews:
So … who’s live-blogging caucuses today?
mark spews:
She seems nice. Probably a good candidate as a second
grade math teacher not as a replacement for the man
who caught the Green River Killer.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Now that he’s retired and living off the fat of the land, Mr. C is just a bitter old man with too much time on his hands.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Hey Cynical, did you ever buy NOV like I told you to? The oilfield services stocks are going up again.
slingshot spews:
@11
Or as an English teacher, maybe? Perhaps she could then offer you some suggestions on constructing a sentence. Cops are supposed to catch killers. Most citizens agree that it shouldn’t take twenty years to do it, however. And especially after the suspect had been held in custody and under surveillance twenty years before that arrest. Sounds like somebody didn’t quite have the necessary grey matter to stich a case together.
Brave and mighty SAVAGE warrior Dan spews:
Goldy’s buddy Dan Savage wrote an aggressive enthusiastic pro-Iraq war piece in Oct 2002 titled:
“Say “YES” to War on Iraq”
Here are a couple excerpts:
“War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times.”
“The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize… or we’re going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves.”

Here’s the caption:
Beverly Morris, bottom right, screams and collapses as the casket carrying her brother, U.S. Army Spec. Charles Jankowski, arrives at the Panama City-Bay County International Airport in Panama City, Fla., on Friday. Comforting Morris are her sister, Felicia Kirkland, left, and Jankowski’s girlfriend, Karen Hainley. Jankowski died from wounds from an exploding improvised explosive device near Baghdad, Iraq, on Friday, March 28, 2008. He will be buried on Monday, April 7, 2008.
(April 04, 2008)
Brave and mighty SAVAGE warrior Dan spews:
Now THIS is the same Dan Savage that Goldy seeks out for opinions and helps promote as a local authority on a wide variety of issues. When posters and commenters on this blog are beating up on the wingnuts and the Iraq war supporters don’t forget to mention Dan Savage, a man who like Dick Cheney and George Bush will never serve in a war or have to send a family member to be killed or maimed in a war. If we judge people by their friends what must we think about Goldy?
Troll spews:
Since this blog has pretty much become the Darcy Burner good/Dave Reichert bad blog, why don’t one of you bloggers break free of your mantra for a second to write about the hypocrisy of the Capitol Hill crowd … people who normally say “Art is supposed to make us think, and supposed to challenge and unsettle us” … who are now upset at the proposed warplane art new transit station?
slingshot spews:
@15
Enlighten the daft among us. What’s the point? Dan Savage was wrong too, therefore…?
Brave and mighty SAVAGE warrior Dan spews:
@18 Read Dan Savage’s words. Think about what they mean. Consider the flippant tone. Think about the results of the war. If you are too daft to get it then you are just too daft to get it.
slingshot spews:
Oh, ok thanks for clearing that up. It was so obvious. Dan Savage was wrong, so Goldy is stupid and the Iraq invasion was a great idea. And! the art mavens of Capitol Hill are hypocrites to top it off. The world is much clearer to me this morning based on right wing logic.
Daddy Love spews:
11 mark
If only the guy who caught the Green River Killer were running. But unfortunately, all we have is Dim Dave Reichert.
Daddy Love spews:
16
I beat up on the idiots who back the war TODAY. Are you one of them?
Daddy Love spews:
16
If we judge people by their friends what must we think about Goldy?
Is guilt by association all you guys have?
slingshot spews:
Besides, imagine what kind of Tim Burton freak would take the time to dredge back through Dan Savage’s writings to pull out a zinger for the author of this blog. Not to mention all the right wing journalists and their friends that would have to be sworn-off using this mental microbial logic.
Troll spews:
Yeah, the art mavens of Capitol Hill are hypocrites. When Christians complain about some artist covering a crucifix in feces and calling it art, Capitol Hill-types say deal with it. That’s what art is supposed to be about. It’s supposed to get you to think; to talk about it; to challenge you, and your notions of conventional art. But now that a piece of art is challenging them, they don’t like it so much. “But this is different!,” you bellow. “You can’t compare the two….” Yeah, yeah, save your breath. It’s the exact same thing and you know it. It’s time to drink your own medicine, you fucking hypocrites. Enjoy your war art.
Brave and mighty SAVAGE warrior Dan spews:
@15 is CRITICISM of Dan Savage for his behavior as a war monger who ENTHUSIASTICALLY supported the invasion and occupation of Iraq INCLUDING the maiming and killing and suffering that would occur.

Politically Incorrect spews:
Roger said:
“That’s why no one should work until workers get the same deal the Owning Class has.”
Yeah, that’ll work well. Right-O!
Roger, the whole point of having money is that other people don’t have money. If you feel so strongly about wealth re-distribution, then send some of the $2,500 you made last week to a homeless shelter or something else along those lines. Will that make you feel better?
Politically Incorrect spews:
PS – I’m not in the Owning Class either.
Brave and mighty SAVAGE warrior Dan spews:
@16 is criticism of Bush and Republican critic Goldy for being a pal and supporter of the war monger Dan Savage who helped Bush and the republicans start the war that Goldy criticizes.
So Savage got it wrong therefore…
Fuck I hope 19 and 20 are clear enough for you.
slingshot spews:
“War-art”. George Orwell won’t you please come home?
Since this is an open thread, and obviously it doesn’t really matter if one’s post has absolutely anything to do with the topic, I’d suggest hitting SAM for the Art of Ancient Rome, and just for a few more days, the Gates of Paradise exhibits. It’s freakin’ awesome, dude. And for Troll, there’s a special section on the Roman Military. And there’s the permanent abstract stuff that you right wingers can blame on liberal social degradation.

What a self-involved moronic twit she is. I wonder if she realizes that her obstuctionism on this issue probably hastened ‘Ronnie’s’ demise?
headless lucy spews:
re 27: Mr. Incorrect: Wealth redistribution has nothing to do with handing out change to beggars — you idiot. It’s about funding the health and education of every American, keeping our infrastructure in good repair, and about having jobs with living wages for us and evry other person on the globe.

Darcy Burner’s big push for office by using her slogan to end the war. Just goes to show she has no idea what’s going on along with her Demo’s backing. If the demo’s get their way and pull out. The USA will be right back there when more attacks on US soul. Vote Republican and Vote for Dave Reichert back in office.
Roger Rabbit spews:

@17 (continued) If you want a wingnut whoopee cushion, try Stefan’s shop.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@27 “Roger, the whole point of having money is that other people don’t have money.”
Really? That’s your world view? I thought the whole point of having money was having money. So, does your ideology also require you to believe that what makes having health care worthwhile is depriving other people of it? And the same with food? And housing? Etc.?
In case no one ever told you this, your philosophy sucks.
Roger Rabbit spews:
What Mr. Cynical and the other selfish bastards on the right never mention is that most of the 47 million Americans who don’t have health insurance are employed.
They would have you believe those folks don’t have health care because they’re lazy. Bullshit. People who work 2 or 3 menial minimum-wage jobs to support their families are working much harder than any of our lying trolls have ever worked. They work harder than anyone else.
But in Wingnut World, the harder you work, the less deserving you are. That’s because wingnuts disrespect working people and their labor. They themselves live on the fruits of other people’s labor and look down on those whose labor supports them. Having to work hard is evidence of not owning anything. In their world, only owning capital is worthy of respect.
Why do I say most of the 47 million uninsured are out there working hard? Because it’s true. Senior citizens get Medicare; welfare recipients get Medicaid. Under our fucked up American system, the big gap in health care coverage is among the working poor, and those in retail and other low-paying industries where employers pay minimum wage and don’t offer health benefits. These people work just as hard as the suits in the front office, so why are they less deserving of having their health needs taken care of?
Our friend Troll provides the answer @17: In his world, the only way he can have more is for other people to have less. His health coverage isn’t meaningful unless other people are deprived of health care.
To me, it is evidence that Mr. Troll never grew up. I left this kind of thinking behind when I graduated from elementary school and moved on to the more grownup world of 7th grade. Most of us learn, at some stage of life, to measure success by what we accomplish, not how much we’re able to lord it over others. Unfortunately, some never mature beyond age 10.
Sigh.
Troll spews:
@40
Not sure what you’re talking about. The intent of my post was about how the art crowd of Capitol Hill are hypocrites. And first part of my post wasn’t against Darcy Burner, it was more a swipe at this blog beating me over the head with posts about her and Dave. I actually want Darcy to win. I just don’t want to be lectured about how great she is every day.

@36: Well – George speaks!
Unfortunately – he can’t spell and has a pathetic argument in favor of the idiot – Reichert (all we need is another politician who can’t speak or think clearly – and votes with Bush).
I assume you meant on “US soil”.
The argument that fighting them over there (Iraq) will prevent them from attacking us here – is specious, at best.
When we can’t get enough troops to really go after al qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan – and can’t convince (read bribe and cajole) other countries to send troops – that is where Iraq is actually making us WEAKER and instead of preventing terrorist actions – is helping al qaeda (our sworn enemy) to recover.
correctnotright spews:
@40: Actually, RR, with the economy going as it has been (80K jobs lost, just last month) – In a few years we will have 2 million americans out of work and losing their health care that way too…
And even if you have health care – what does it do for you? They will stall and not pay for the critical procedures. Or sue you – like Walmart did.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@41 ” … it was more a swipe at this blog beating me over the head with posts about her and Dave. … I just don’t want to be lectured about how great she is every day.”

Tell you what, why don’t you catch Bin Laden since you are
obviously the most intelligent contributor alive today.
GO LEFT FOOT GO!
Roger Rabbit spews:
@50 It’s not his job to catch Bin Laden. The relevant question is, why haven’t the people whose job IS catching bin Laden, and who have been given hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer funds to do it, done so?
Roger Rabbit spews:
And it WAS Reichert’s job to catch the GRK, and because he didn’t, dozens more women died. For this, we should reward him with a seat in Congress?

Billary has been lying again:
Hillary Clinton is honoring an Ohio hospital’s request that she stop retelling the tragic story of an uninsured pregnant woman who died after being denied care, after the hospital referenced in the story disputed the account.
Clinton noticeably dropped the story from her stump speech Saturday in Hillsboro, Ore. Since late February, she had weaved into her speeches the description of an uninsured pizza parlor employee who died after she couldn’t afford $100 to get treatment.

Well libs, Charleton Heston has died. Let loose with your invective and show the world what your made of.
me spews:
Invective? Why? He was a wonderful actor and someone to respect.
John Barelli spews:
PBJ
Charleton Heston supported some candidates and causes that many of us found distasteful (at best).
But… He was honest and open about his views, and was willing to debate them in open forums. His views were not determined by deciding what would be most favorable to his career, and he did not resort to character assassination of people that he disagreed with.
Additionally, he stood for civil rights when it was unpopular and likely to cost him fans and lucrative movie roles. This conservative icon marched with Martin Luther King, and supported equal rights for all, regardless of race, religion, gender or sexual preference.
In the later years of his life, he became somewhat more set in his views, and less tolerant of opposing views, and that is sad.
There is more information, and some rather touching farewells over at Democratic Underground.
If more conservatives were as honest and open as Mr. Heston, we would have a much tougher time defeating them in the polls, but that would be more than offset by the fact that liberals can work with honest conservatives, because both groups care more about the good of the country than about their own personal benefit or power.
No, I didn’t agree with many of his positions, especially in his later years, but he was an honest man of good will, and the world is diminished by his passing.
John Barelli spews:
Oh, and news from the 26th District caucus.
When Will Rogers made his famous quote “I don’t belong to an organized political party, I’m a Democrat”, I think he had this bunch in mind, but while chaos reigned, I doubt that Mr. Limbaugh would have been pleased.
We managed to fill the gym over at Gig Harbor High, and the energy level was amazing. While there was some good-natured rivalry between the Obama and Clinton camps, it was mostly limited to who could cheer the loudest. Considering that we outnumbered the Clinton camp by almost exactly two to one, it wasn’t really much of a contest. There was no talk here of “if my candidate doesn’t win…”. We all know that we’ll come together and beat Senator McCain.
Unlike the precinct caucuses where getting elected as a delegate wasn’t much more difficult than raising a hand and saying “ok, I’ll volunteer”, we had three times the number of people volunteering as we had positions to fill. Even when you limit campaigning to one minute per person, it takes a while to get through eighty potential delegates, and that was just for the Pierce County portion of the 26th.
(No, yours truly did not run for the next level. My tour is done after the County convention.)
Perhaps the best news was the number of people getting involved that had never been politically active in the past. While it certainly added to the chaos, it was amazing to see all those folks so enthusiastic about being part of this campaign.
Some of our delegates going to the next level are still in high school, while others are old enough to make me feel like a kid.
Norm Dicks, Derek Kilmer and Larry Seaquist all spoke, and got standing cheers from both sides. They emphasized the upcoming Governor’s race. The 26th is a swing district, and there are a lot of staunch Republicans around here. Mr. Rossi is spending time and money in the district, and we’ll have to work hard to beat him here.
But if the enthusiasm I saw today is any indication, the guy doesn’t stand a chance.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Nixon Wouldn’t Have Survived Impeachment Vote
“When the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives voted articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon in the summer of 1974, it fell to the GOP’s grand old man, Barry Goldwater, to go to the president and say … there were, at most, 18 votes to acquit in the Senate ….”
http://www.newsweek.com/id/130605
Roger Rabbit Commentary: I feel strongly that impeaching Bush and Cheney should be put to a Senate vote. How much time they have left in office is irrelevant. It’s important for ourselves, posterity, and all future presidents to protect the principle that the oath to defend the Constitution means exactly what it says, and those who violate it do so at their peril.
