and dropping $50B of taxpayer dollars

to do so.

Seems as if the NRA has heard him:

In its first comments since last week’s massacre at a Connecticut elementary school, the National Rifle Association on Friday called for “armed security” at every school in the nation.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/nra-calls-for-armed-security-at-every-school-2012-12-21

In response to these developments, I have a couple of questions:

1. Does the fact that the NRA agrees with RR mean that RR is a total dumbfuck and deserves the same derision heaped on the NRA?

2. Does the fact that the NRA agrees with RR mean that the NRA is beginning to come around to accept liberal thought?

Or,

3. Is arming all schools actually a wise move, AND RR’s still a total dumbfuck?

One week later, after putting in a solid 3 days work, the Republican House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor, tweeted

The House of Representatives has concluded legislative business for the week. The House will return after the Christmas holiday when needed.

This is what happens when people act before thinking.

Handguns are responsible for far more murders than rifles.

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2010/crime-in-the-u.s.-2010/tables/10tbl20.xls

Handguns are easier to smuggle into schools.

If the point is to prevent mass murders, I suppose going after the assault weapons might make more sense. If the point is to prevent deaths due to gun violence, what’s being talked about is idiotic.

The thing is, when people calm down and act rationally, this push will die. Ergo, Dems and other liberals have to push it by fanning the flames, so they can influence public opinion while people are still irrational.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

15. MikeBoyScout spews:

@10 Moderate Man,

Look, there are more than a few parents that are scared shitless by the routine gun slaughter at our schools. Absent meaningful change – in laws, health care, societal norms – we could well get less meaningful change.

Turning our schools into fortresses to protect our children from the dangers the Merchants of Death have foisted on to us is not the best approach to providing an educational environment free from mass murderers, but unless our society makes the changes necessary it may be the best we can do.

I’m sure the Israelis were thinking similarly when debating the wisdom of walling themselves off from Gaza.

It’s too bad the Gazans won’t eliminate the mass murderers from their society so the wall can come down.

Oh, and since we’re talking about fortresses, as well as people proposing idiotic shit in the throes of our despair (that word for Lib Sci) over what happened, how about the abject wisdom of Sheila Jackson Lee, Democrat from the Great State of Texas?

Take, for instance, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s genius idea to install retractable steel walls in schools, designed to keep potential attackers out. She didn’t (but I’m assuming she meant to) mention how the security system will detect potential attackers and trigger the motorized steel walls to shut down the school before they can enter. I’m imagining some sort of Minority Report-like system that predicts crimes before they happen.

Financial News:

After a very modest fall, suddenly air shipping from China’s freight carriers jumped up (28%) in November. Since that’s too late for the Christmas season toys, and low-cost toys usually are shipped by sea, not air, that means China is shipping high-tech gizmos as fast as they can be produced. But European and U.S. domestic fright shipping (by air) continues to be down.

Last night an executive of a large local aerospace manufacturer (who shall remain nameless) told me that this week, over 300 airworthiness tickets were issued by the FAA, which has resulted in a big push for deliveries on the flight line and ferry flights this week, and spreading well into next week. I imagine a good number of them are for 737 NG’s, but others are for wide-bodies in Everett (maybe Chaleston?).

It will be interesting to see how the final delivery count works out for Boeing. Their fiscal year is the calendar year. Boeing wanted one major buyer of 787-8′s to take one more aircraft this week, but the airline refused – they want to make sure the re-work is done right the first time, rather than rush to speed up deliveries. This might mean that there will be a big surprise when 4Q deliveries are announced, but it could also mean that Boeing was behind in their delivery pace, and these final deliveries allow it to catch up to it’s previous advertised targets.

19. Serial conservative spews:

MBS, do you think there are some parents of teenagers in inner-city Chicago that are also scared shitless about gun violence putting their kids at risk? In school or on the streets, it really shouldn’t matter (should it?).

Do we start earnestly protecting rich white kids before we protect the poor black ones?

If only we had a guy from an urban center, say like Chicago, maybe a minority who was raised by a single parent, who was in a position of power and could make the case that saving a black kid from a gang-violence death is as important as saving a white one from death cause by a mentally ill individual.

If only.

Surprised you didn’t mention this:

Boeing delivers 6 787s in one day, exceed their 2012 high end estimate
Boeing gave a Christmas gift (an early one at that) to its shareholders by delivering 6 787s to 6 current operators of the aircraft. Boeing delviered one each to ANA, Air India, Japan Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Qatar Airways and United Airlines.

http://nyc787.blogspot.com/

I’m not in a position to verify the information but if they exceeded their high-end estimate for 2012 deliveries they wouldn’t be ‘behind in their delivery pace’.

Marine veteran outside Hughson school lied about his service record

HUGHSON — The Marine Corps veteran who achieved national fame this week for guarding Hughson Elementary School had a far less distinguished service career than he has claimed in public, records obtained Thursday show.

The records contradict Pusley’s claims Wednesday to The Modesto Bee and other media that he is a 28-year-old sergeant who served two tours in Iraq, in Baghdad and Ramadi, and one tour in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Pusley told the Army Times on Thursday that he feels “horrible about this.”

Truth hurts, doesn’t it? Handgun deaths of inner city youth are far, far, far more numerous than assault-style weapon deaths of children anywhere.

And yet there’s no movement afoot on HA to do anything about it.

However, a bunch of little white kids in a Connecticut suburb are killed, about the same number of inner city youth killed in a couple of busy summer weekends in Chicago, and suddenly we’re having a national conversation.

I guess Jake Tapper deserves a F*UCK YOU for pointing it out to Obama earlier this week.

Isn’t that important enough to mention, MBS? Or do you plan to leave that to the Bill Cosbys of the world while you focus on saving the rich white kids?

29. rhp6033 spews:

# 20: You are talking about cramming six 787-8 deliveries into one day. I was talking about 300+ Airworthiness tickets being issued within a week, which has to happen before any deliveries take place. Surely you see that these are different measurements? There are a limited number of people that the Boeing Board of Directors has authorized to sign on behalf of Boeing for delivery of an aircraft, and they are working very long hours, seven days a week.

After three years of trying to get as many 787′s off the flight line as possible, and with the factory promising to crank out aircraft at higher rates, the folks in Everett are ready for a little time off. Most of the rest of Boeing takes the week off between Christmas and New Year’s, and the folks working deliveries want to do the same this year, as well. So they are trying to cram as many as possible into this week, so that there are only a smattering left next week.

I hear the LOTT delivery had lots of snags, they were still working on it two days after it was expected to be delivered.

One of Boeing’s biggest problems is that aircraft on the flight line are being canabalized for parts, often without a good record of what’s being dismanted and taken off. More than one 787 that’s been on the flight line for more than a year has had to be rolled back into the factory so it’s status could be documented, and then rebuilt from the skin & frame inward.

Why is the NRA resisting prudent, common sense gun regulations?

33. MikeBoyScout spews:

While the NRA Was on TV Talking About the Need for More Guns Some Guy Was Walking Up and Down a Road in Pennsylvania Shooting People

The National Rifle Association today held its first press conference since last week’s deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, and the takeaway was clear: We need more guns.

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” said NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

He went on to call for an armed police officer to be stationed in “every single school” across America to prevent further mass shootings, as critics tried to point out that armed law enforcement officials might not be the panacea the NRA thinks it is.

But before they could finish their sentence, the counterargument made itself as news broke of a mass shooting event in Pennsylvania with multiple casualties, including state troopers.

Guns kill. On average every day, 270 people in America, 47 of them children and teens are shot in murders, assaults, suicides, accidents, and police intervention.

34. No Time for Fascists spews:

@25. Wow. who would have thought that Serial Conservative would be the person coming out in support of banning cheap handguns to lower inner city violence. Good on you. Glad to see you come to your senses.

I am glad that Serial Conservative is so concerned about inner city violence and is advocating for review of our courts and laws and is willing spend money and resources to help black youth.

36. rhp6033 spews:

# 31: What I’ve seen is the “downward” approach to management, rather than the “upward” approach.

In this case, the leadership within the executive levels at Boeing in Chicago decide that to meet or exceed the analyst’s rosy projections (encouraged by their own comments), the simply tell their V.P’s that deliveries will increase by 10% this year. The V.P.s tell their program managers the same thing. The program managers tell the aircraft production managers, who then tell their shift managers. From program managers downward, careers will be effected if the goals aren’t met.

So the aircraft shift managers, finding themselves stymied for lack of a part, send out a crew on third shift to pull one off an airplane which no one has looked at for several months. No paperwork is written for the removal to avoid responsibility. But Q.C. signs off on the installation of the removed part, and the aircraft managaers go on to do other things before it becomes an issue.

But without the paperwork showing the removal, everything has to be re-done again and documented, which can take weeks (or longer). But that’s somebody else’s problem.

37. Serial conservative spews:

@ 35

…Serial Conservative is so concerned about inner city violence and is advocating for review of our courts and laws and is willing spend money and resources to help black youth.

I think that we should be having a conversation about this, about spending money here, and not about restricting access to assault weapons that are responsible for far, far fewer deaths.

I have little idea where to start. It’s probably one of those all-of-the-above projects.

Mayor Bloomberg: “Their press conference was a shameful evasion of the crisis facing our country. Instead of offering solutions to a problem they have helped create, they offered a paranoid, dystopian vision of a more dangerous and violent America where everyone is armed and no place is safe.

Astronaut and husband of Gabby Gifford, Mark Kelly: “The NRA could have chosen to be a voice for the vast majority of its own members who want common sense, reasonable safeguards on deadly firearms, but instead it chose to defend extreme pro-gun positions that aren’t even popular among the law abiding gun owners it represents. Today, the NRA chose narrow partisan concerns over the safety of our families and communities. The time for this kind of extreme rhetoric is over.

Shouldn’t we drop the $50B RR wants to spend on schools elsewhere, like to improve the lives of the least fortunate of us? Are we really going to put metal detectors and marshals in upstate NY and suburban CT schools, rather than spend the money somewhere in which it might do more good in actually curtailing violence?

Best to dismiss those who might point out that it isn’t something you can change quickly, cheaply, or simply by restricting gun ownership by the law-abiding portion of the public. Easier, anyway.

Ad hominems are easy. Working the problem as it truly exists is a good measure harder.

Or would you realize that they were being ‘edgy’ and ‘provocative’ in a social setting in which they felt comfortable, and therefore it was OK for them to behave in that manner?

73. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

It reads like you are a trying to divert attention away from the discussion of meaningful gun regulation

Well, DUH, that’s obviously his intent – his whole MO is slyly superficial, cynical posturing in an effort to derail any sort of intelligent discourse. It’s what he does.

74. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

@72

I’ve asked you repeatedly, Dr. Robert, to leave reference to my children out of your wheedling, smarmy posts.

You want to come at me, then do it, without hiding behind children.

Coward.

75. Serial conservative spews:

@ 75

I only bring your children into it as a means of questioning your morals and ethics, Lib Sci.

If you wouldn’t tolerate their use of a racially tinged word, why do you think you can get away with it? It isn’t tobacco, it isn’t alcohol. It’s not something unacceptable when used by a minor but OK once adulthood has been attained.

It’s wrong. Perhaps by creating a scenario in which it comes out of the mouth of your child, and you as a parent would have to respond (or not, I’ll grant you), you can see that.

I have come at you, directly. You didn’t engage. The cowardice is not mine, Lib Sci.

76. Serial conservative spews:

@ 74

Lib Sci, let me try it another way:

What racially tinged words do you think it is OK for you to use, because you’re an educated and mature adult, but not OK for, say, your children to use?

Is that any easier for you?

77. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

@75

Supercilious, preening asshole, I don’t care why you reference my children, and no explanation makes it ‘OK’.

Your whining about me not engaging your smarm is not exculpatory, either.

I’ll accept an apology from you anytime now, Robert.

78. Serial conservative spews:

@ 78

I’m sorry that you believe that there are situations in which you feel it’s appropriate to refer to the conduct of a black politician whose policies you disagree with as a ‘minstrel show’.

I’m sorry your kids are being raised by someone who thinks that’s OK.

Best I can do, Lib Sci.

79. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

@75

Your bitching, for any readers not up on your bullshit, is about my use of the term ‘minstrel show’ to describe Artur Davis switching to and publicly supporting the racist White Peoples’, er, Republican party, in a fit of self-aggrandizing treason.

Would it have been acceptible to your (newly found) racism sensitivities to instead quote Malcom X and call Davis a ‘house Negro’?

80. Gman spews:

Serial Conservative get a grip. You are becoming a nut job, or maybe you’ve always have been.

Try being a part of a solution instead of being the problem.

81. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

@78

Cry me a fucking river, Robert.

No one believes you give a shit about racism or justice, Robert – you’ve written too much here that absolutely blows that notion out of the water. You’re a rather pedestrian well-off white guy looking for lower taxes to advance your personal wealth, fuck the poor and the working people, and you’ve been directly, obviously racist yourself on a number of topics, particularly the disenfranchisement of black communities in Michigan, and your fairly vile fantasies about armed militias bringing order to Detroit.

You’re about one thing with this ‘minstrel show’ attack – you want to make me back down because you see that as a ‘win’. You seem to think that pretending to care about racism and trying to call me out on something you’re trying to construe as a racist slur is somehow a ‘winning’ proposition for you.

Well, not gonna happen, asshole.

(I’m also not surprised that your quite masterful at the non-apology apology – it’s an important tool for a slimy fucker like yourself, Doctor.)

82. Serial conservative spews:

@ 81

You’re about one thing with this ‘minstrel show’ attack – you want to make me back down because you see that as a ‘win’.

Not quite.

I see you as having dropped your mask.

I believe that had it come out of the mouth of your child that child’s cheek would be immediately thereafter bright pink and stinging were you within earshot. Lesson quickly learned, maybe with a history lesson attached to it, as you would be correct to do. Teach your children well, so to speak.

Until, of course, they go online and feel comfortable with those around them. Then they drop their mask and repeat what they heard their father say when they were eight and he didn’t think he had to watch what he said.

83. rhp6033 spews:

Back to the “Fiscal Cliff” negotiations:

Okay Boener can’t round up enough votes for his “Plan B”, which was nothing more than a P.R./Propoganda move anyway (so that the Republicans could claim that they tried to cut taxes on the middle class).

So that means that even though the Republicans have a majoritity in the House, there is no one there who has enough gravitas with his own party with whom Obama can negotiate.

A number of the Tea Party Republicans were probably concerned that they couldn’t vote for anything which looked like a tax increase, even on the those earning more than a million dollars a year or so. They were probably looking over their shoulder at potential primary challenges from other Tea-Partiers.

So I guess as far as the President is concerned, it is time to start picking them off one-by-one. Identify those in swing states and threaten to throw all the Democratic resources as them to make sure they are defeated if they don’t go along with the President’s package. As for the extreme Tea Partiers, throw up the prospect of a creditable Democratic-centrist challenger. Show them polls showin that their district is incrasingly blaiming the Republicans in the House for the fiscal crisis.

Or do what Lyndon Johnson used to do as leader of the Senate – invade personal space, get up chest-to-shoulder with the other guy (he was pretty tall), and while talking with the other guy intentily, reach under his coat and grab his balls and start twisting. More than a few “aye” votes resulted from this tactic – no one wanted it repeated.

“A gunman killed three people Friday in central Pennsylvania, including a woman in a church, before police shot him dead, authorities said. Three state troopers were injured, including one who was shot twice in the chest but survived thanks to his bulletproof vest. …

“About 9 a.m. ET, the gunman fired into the church, killing the woman, before shooting and killing a man at a private residence …. As the gunman fled, his pickup truck crashed into a second vehicle, and he shot and killed the other driver …. The truck subsequently crashed into a car driven by one of the troopers … and the gunman got out and began firing. The troopers returned fire, killing the suspect ….

“The woman … was struck by gunshots that flew through the window of a church hall as she was decorating for a children’s Christmas party. …

“The county sheriff’s office indicated that the gunman may have had more targets in mind, saying … the toll ‘could have been a lot worse’ had state troopers not responded as quickly as they did. As it was, investigators’ resources were stretched processing five separate crime scenes ….”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: It doesn’t do any good to say, “Enough, this has to stop!” It won’t stop until society confiscate guns from people who shouldn’t have them.

91. Roger Rabbit spews:

I wonder if the NRA’s response to this latest shooting rampage will be that we should have cops guard our churches, too.

No, actually, I don’t think Wayne LaPierre will say that. I think he’ll say churchgoers should carry guns and shoot it out with these crazy people.

Yes, that’s how his mind works (if he has one). His “solution” to innocent people being killed by gunplay is not less gunplay but more gunplay.

92. Roger Rabbit spews:

@83 Yeah, and did it ever backfire! Now Democrats can claim Republicans refused to vote for a middle-class tax cut! That should play well for Democrats in 2014. I can see the TV ads.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Chapter 11?? Are you fucking kidding me?? Chapter 11 reorganizations are designed to enable companies to stay in business after stiffing their creditors. We need to change our bankruptcy laws to make Chapter 7 mandatory for businesses that injure people and then can’t (or won’t) pay their legal liabilities. Companies like this should undergo financial capital punishment, not reorganization.

(CNN) — A man killed two men and one woman Friday in central Pennsylvania, then died in a gunfight with state troopers, authorities said.
The first report of shots fired “at multiple locations” in Frankstown Township came in a 911 call placed around 9 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said. As state troopers converged on the area, someone in a truck — going the opposite direction on a two-lane road — fired at two marked patrol cars.

But nah, we don’t have a gun problem in the US. And gee if only that poor woman had a gun on her when someone she knew and trusted walked up behind her in church and shot her…

Sorry Wayne, more guns wouldn’t help here.

97. Michael spews:

It took a while to bubble up, but I don’t see Serial “Cheap Shot” Conservative posting how that Wayne Lapierre is also insulated and sheltered and pampered because his solution to turn schools into armed compounds with a cop in every hallway ….
but not one word from Wayne Lapierre about putting an armed trained professional on every inner city street corner to stop violence there.
Where is Serial “Cheap Shot” Conservative’s equal outrage with Wayne Lapierre? Why in Lapierre’s press conference, does the AP Chem class rate a cop but not the poor kids on the sidewalk in Chicago?
SerCon, I’m waiting….

There will never be any because Serial “Cheap Shot” Conservative really doesn’t care one bit about inner city violence, it’s just a shill arguing point he trots out if he thinks it can spread liberal self doubt.

The only way to stop a bad guy with biological weapons, is a good guy with biological weapons.

The only way to stop a bad child molester with a penis, is a good child molester with a penis.
