If the point is to prevent mass murders, I suppose going after the assault weapons might make more sense. If the point is to prevent deaths due to gun violence, what’s being talked about is idiotic.
The thing is, when people calm down and act rationally, this push will die. Ergo, Dems and other liberals have to push it by fanning the flames, so they can influence public opinion while people are still irrational.

I’m sure the Israelis were thinking similarly when debating the wisdom of walling themselves off from Gaza.
It’s too bad the Gazans won’t eliminate the mass murderers from their society so the wall can come down.
Oh, and since we’re talking about fortresses, as well as people proposing idiotic shit in the throes of our despair (that word for Lib Sci) over what happened, how about the abject wisdom of Sheila Jackson Lee, Democrat from the Great State of Texas?
Take, for instance, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s genius idea to install retractable steel walls in schools, designed to keep potential attackers out. She didn’t (but I’m assuming she meant to) mention how the security system will detect potential attackers and trigger the motorized steel walls to shut down the school before they can enter. Financial News:
After a very modest fall, suddenly air shipping from China’s freight carriers jumped up (28%) in November. Since that’s too late for the Christmas season toys, and low-cost toys usually are shipped by sea, not air, that means China is shipping high-tech gizmos as fast as they can be produced. But European and U.S. domestic fright shipping (by air) continues to be down.
Last night an executive of a large local aerospace manufacturer (who shall remain nameless) told me that this week, over 300 airworthiness tickets were issued by the FAA, which has resulted in a big push for deliveries on the flight line and ferry flights this week, and spreading well into next week. I imagine a good number of them are for 737 NG’s, but others are for wide-bodies in Everett (maybe Chaleston?).
It will be interesting to see how the final delivery count works out for Boeing. Their fiscal year is the calendar year. Boeing wanted one major buyer of 787-8’s to take one more aircraft this week, but the airline refused – they want to make sure the re-work is done right the first time, rather than rush to speed up deliveries. This might mean that there will be a big surprise when 4Q deliveries are announced, but it could also mean that Boeing was behind in their delivery pace, and these final deliveries allow it to catch up to it’s previous advertised targets.

Do we start earnestly protecting rich white kids before we protect the poor black ones?
If only we had a guy from an urban center, say like Chicago, maybe a minority who was raised by a single parent, who was in a position of power and could make the case that saving a black kid from a gang-violence death is as important as saving a white one from death cause by a mentally ill individual.

rhp6033 spews:
# 20: You are talking about cramming six 787-8 deliveries into one day. I was talking about 300+ Airworthiness tickets being issued within a week, which has to happen before any deliveries take place. Surely you see that these are different measurements? There are a limited number of people that the Boeing Board of Directors has authorized to sign on behalf of Boeing for delivery of an aircraft, and they are working very long hours, seven days a week.
After three years of trying to get as many 787’s off the flight line as possible, and with the factory promising to crank out aircraft at higher rates, the folks in Everett are ready for a little time off. Most of the rest of Boeing takes the week off between Christmas and New Year’s, and the folks working deliveries want to do the same this year, as well. So they are trying to cram as many as possible into this week, so that there are only a smattering left next week.
I hear the LOTT delivery had lots of snags, they were still working on it two days after it was expected to be delivered.
One of Boeing’s biggest problems is that aircraft on the flight line are being canabalized for parts, often without a good record of what’s being dismanted and taken off. More than one 787 that’s been on the flight line for more than a year has had to be rolled back into the factory so it’s status could be documented, and then rebuilt from the skin & frame inward.

rhp6033 spews:
# 31: What I’ve seen is the “downward” approach to management, rather than the “upward” approach.
In this case, the leadership within the executive levels at Boeing in Chicago decide that to meet or exceed the analyst’s rosy projections (encouraged by their own comments), the simply tell their V.P’s that deliveries will increase by 10% this year. The V.P.s tell their program managers the same thing. The program managers tell the aircraft production managers, who then tell their shift managers. From program managers downward, careers will be effected if the goals aren’t met.
So the aircraft shift managers, finding themselves stymied for lack of a part, send out a crew on third shift to pull one off an airplane which no one has looked at for several months. No paperwork is written for the removal to avoid responsibility. But Q.C. signs off on the installation of the removed part, and the aircraft managaers go on to do other things before it becomes an issue.
But without the paperwork showing the removal, everything has to be re-done again and documented, which can take weeks (or longer). But that’s somebody else’s problem.

Until, of course, they go online and feel comfortable with those around them. Then they drop their mask and repeat what they heard their father say when they were eight and he didn’t think he had to watch what he said.

Back to the “Fiscal Cliff” negotiations:
Okay Boener can’t round up enough votes for his “Plan B”, which was nothing more than a P.R./Propoganda move anyway (so that the Republicans could claim that they tried to cut taxes on the middle class).
So that means that even though the Republicans have a majoritity in the House, there is no one there who has enough gravitas with his own party with whom Obama can negotiate.
A number of the Tea Party Republicans were probably concerned that they couldn’t vote for anything which looked like a tax increase, even on the those earning more than a million dollars a year or so. They were probably looking over their shoulder at potential primary challenges from other Tea-Partiers.
So I guess as far as the President is concerned, it is time to start picking them off one-by-one. Identify those in swing states and threaten to throw all the Democratic resources as them to make sure they are defeated if they don’t go along with the President’s package. As for the extreme Tea Partiers, throw up the prospect of a creditable Democratic-centrist challenger. Show them polls showin that their district is incrasingly blaiming the Republicans in the House for the fiscal crisis.
Or do what Lyndon Johnson used to do as leader of the Senate – invade personal space, get up chest-to-shoulder with the other guy (he was pretty tall), and while talking with the other guy intentily, reach under his coat and grab his balls and start twisting. More than a few “aye” votes resulted from this tactic – no one wanted it repeated.

“Pennsylvania gunman kills woman in church, two other people before dying in shootout with police”
“A gunman killed three people Friday in central Pennsylvania, including a woman in a church, before police shot him dead, authorities said. Three state troopers were injured, including one who was shot twice in the chest but survived thanks to his bulletproof vest. …
“About 9 a.m. ET, the gunman fired into the church, killing the woman, before shooting and killing a man at a private residence …. As the gunman fled, his pickup truck crashed into a second vehicle, and he shot and killed the other driver …. The truck subsequently crashed into a car driven by one of the troopers … and the gunman got out and began firing. The troopers returned fire, killing the suspect ….
“The woman … was struck by gunshots that flew through the window of a church hall as she was decorating for a children’s Christmas party. …
“The county sheriff’s office indicated that the gunman may have had more targets in mind, saying … the toll ‘could have been a lot worse’ had state troopers not responded as quickly as they did. As it was, investigators’ resources were stretched processing five separate crime scenes ….”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: It doesn’t do any good to say, “Enough, this has to stop!” It won’t stop until society confiscate guns from people who shouldn’t have them.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I wonder if the NRA’s response to this latest shooting rampage will be that we should have cops guard our churches, too.
No, actually, I don’t think Wayne LaPierre will say that. I think he’ll say churchgoers should carry guns and shoot it out with these crazy people.
Yes, that’s how his mind works (if he has one). His “solution” to innocent people being killed by gunplay is not less gunplay but more gunplay.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@83 Yeah, and did it ever backfire! Now Democrats can claim Republicans refused to vote for a middle-class tax cut! That should play well for Democrats in 2014. I can see the TV ads.

“The compounding pharmacy blamed for 620 infections and 39 deaths in an outbreak of fungal meningitis and other infections caused by contaminated drugs filed for bankruptcy Friday ….
“The New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass., faces more than 400 lawsuits from patients who received epidural steroid injections later found to be tainted with fungus linked to serious and lethal infections ….
“The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Massachusetts district bankruptcy court.”
http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_new.....uptcy?lite
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Chapter 11?? Are you fucking kidding me?? Chapter 11 reorganizations are designed to enable companies to stay in business after stiffing their creditors. We need to change our bankruptcy laws to make Chapter 7 mandatory for businesses that injure people and then can’t (or won’t) pay their legal liabilities. Companies like this should undergo financial capital punishment, not reorganization.

It took a while to bubble up, but I don’t see Serial “Cheap Shot” Conservative posting how that Wayne Lapierre is also insulated and sheltered and pampered because his solution to turn schools into armed compounds with a cop in every hallway ….
but not one word from Wayne Lapierre about putting an armed trained professional on every inner city street corner to stop violence there.
Where is Serial “Cheap Shot” Conservative’s equal outrage with Wayne Lapierre? Why in Lapierre’s press conference, does the AP Chem class rate a cop but not the poor kids on the sidewalk in Chicago?
SerCon, I’m waiting….
There will never be any because Serial “Cheap Shot” Conservative really doesn’t care one bit about inner city violence, it’s just a shill arguing point he trots out if he thinks it can spread liberal self doubt.
