A couple of weeks ago I wondered whether the B&O tax surcharge would be something Inslee wants extended.
Inslee said during his first news conference as governor that he’s open to extending a business and occupation tax and a beer tax, which could raise hundreds of millions of dollars over the next two years.

Joke du jour:
One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you , I’m doing community service this week.’ The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you , I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I can not accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Congressman was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

Wow – he really is lashing out at you, must have hit a nerve.
It’s just typical – you two made a bet – you in good faith it appears – and when the time came due to pay up – he wants to change the rules and short-circuit the mechanism that ensures compliance. He wants credit for paying up, and is offering non-verifiable evidence of such, but does not want to follow the rules as established – and offers no compelling reason to do so.
“Trust me” he is essentially demanding, while he does what he wants.
Republicans are such predictable creatures.

It seems that while there is considerable work to be done in Congress, the Republicans are at a three-day retreat focusing primarily on – public relations.
Although there was some urgency for a change, the consensus was that the change was about how to communicate, not about rethinking core policy positions.
There was, however, some discussion of how to handle the pending debt-ceiling crisis which is looming in just a couple of weeks. The consensus seems to be that they will kick that can down the road just a bit – perhaps until March 1, when further negotiations on the budget are to be finalized. But a lot of Republicans are insisting that they want the Democrats to give something for only a six-week extention, at which time they will again demand other concessions:

The post uses data selectively, ignoring the significant role of handguns in gun violence. But the statistics it mentions are solid. FBI data backs up the Facebook post’s claim that in 2011, more people were murdered with knives, “hands or feet” or “clubs and hammers” than with any type of rifle. We rate the statement True.

MikeBoyScout spews:
@21Kap’n Kornflake – – Serial Reneger with fantasies of pedophilia,
Projected like your commitment to meet your obligation when you lose a wager; worth nothing because it depends upon a so called conservative to manage it competently and honestly.
rhp6033 spews:
# 21: Everything is projected, until a couple of years after they occur. I believe he was talking about an eight-year projection. But then, all budgets have to talk in terms of multi-year numbers, because numbers can easily be postponed for one year with greater costs in suceeding years, or a new savings initiative may take some time to put the systems in place before the results are felt.
When all the data was in and the numbers crunched, they found that the Great Rescession actually started under George W. Bush’s watch in 2007, not 2008. But it wasn’t until it became a potential election year issue that it was acknowledged by the Bush administration. (Today’s date in history: George W. Bush proposed stimulating the economy on this date in 2008, by proposing yet another round of tax cuts for businesses).

Hey, let’s have some fun. What Republicans are credible candidates for President in 2016? The previous candidates, like Bachman, Gingrich (married until she gets old then leaves ’em), Perry, etc.? Or how about former S. Carolina Gov. “hiking the Appalachians” Sanford? The pizza guy? How about Rubio, Christ, or Jebb Bush (all passed last time around). What about the current Republican Congressional leadership (Boener, etc.?).
I can see Ryan thinking he had a shot, which is a bit laughable.
Serial conservative spews:
Consider this, Mr. President: During the first 16 days of January, 26 people have been killed by guns in Chicago — the exact same number as at Sandy Hook Elementary School. By the time this year is out, the south and west sides of the city we both call home will have endured, in terms of sheer numbers of people killed, the equivalent of 20 Sandy Hook massacres. That’s on top of the equivalent of the 19 Sandy Hooks the city experienced in 2012.
http://www.realclearpolitics.c.....u_now.html
Nineteen Sandy Hooks. That’s an awful lot of dead 6- and 7-year olds.
I guess to you lefties it doesn’t sound so bad if it’s inner-city deaths.
Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:
You are vile.
I hesitate to write that because I strongly suspect that it makes you happy to elicit that response.
On top of being vile, you’re also wrong, in that very few 6 and 7 year olds are killed by gun violence in Chicago. See here. Not that it makes any of those murders OK, it just underscores your willingness to be totally inaccurate in the pursuit of a cheap shot.
BTW, have you ever complained about the evil of all the murdered Iraqi innocent women and children, whose blood in on the hands of Bush and cheneya nd Rumsfeld and Rove, et al.?
Chris spews:
I don’t see how the same people who recognize the failed policy of drug prohibition and alcohol prohibition could support tighter gun control laws thinking that will help. The failed policy of the war on drugs and several decades ago alcohol proves laws dont change behavior much. Republicans have equally bad logic recognizing that if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns but thinking you can stop people from using drugs at the same time with laws.
