An angry right wing guy insists that Nazis were leftists because they were “National Socialists,” and he also demands that Baird “stay away from his kids.”
This was from the Brian Baird town hall last Tuesday.
Yeah, we’ll stay away from your kids, angry guy, and you and your kin, because you’re a crazy angry ignorant moron. No problem. My main goal in life is to avoid people like you.
I sure wouldn’t want to risk pulling in front of your grocery cart by accident, because that might be about the same as something Pol Pot would do. I hear old Pol was a real asshole when he was shopping, which would make me a Pol Pot shopper. Or something.
It’s hard to argue with stupid. But this is a pretty good example of what we’re dealing with. G-d bLess tHe UsA.
UPDATE [Lee]: Jon, I hope you don’t mind my piggy-backing on your post here, but the following passage is from the very beginning of Volume 2 of Mein Kampf, where Adolf Hitler lays out the general philosophy of the National Socialist movement:
Our present political world view, current in Germany, is based in general on the idea that creative, culture-creating force must indeed by attributed to the state, but that it has nothing to do with racial consider, but is rather a product of economic necessities, or, at best, the natural result of a political urge for power. This underlying view, if logically developed, leads not only to a mistaken conception of basic racial forces, but also to an underestimation of the individual. For a denial of the difference between the various races with regard to their general culture-creating forces must necessarily extend this greatest of all errors to the judgment of the individual. The assumption of the equality of the races then becomes a basis for a similar way of viewing peoples and finally individual men. And hence international Marxism itself is only the transference, by the Jew, Karl Marx, of a philosophical attitude and conception, which had actually long been in existence, into the form of a definite political creed. Without the subsoil of such generally existing poisoning, the amazing success of this doctrine would never have been possible. Actually Karl Marx was only the one among millions who, with the sure eye of the prophet, recognized in the morass of a slowly decomposing world the most essential poisons, extracted them, and, like a wizard, prepared them into a concentrated solution for the swifter annihilation of the independent existence of free nations on this earth. And all this in the service of his race.
His Marxist doctrine is a brief spiritual extract of the philosophy of life that is generally current today. And for this reason alone any struggle of our so-called bourgeois world against it is impossible, absurd in fact, since this bourgeois world is also essentially infected by these poisons, and worships a view of life which in general is distinguished from the Marxists only by degrees and personalities. The bourgeois world is Marxist, but believes in the possibility of the rule of certain groups of men (bourgeoisie), while Marxism itself systematically plans to hand the world over to the Jews.
To believe that the Nazi movement was communist is on the same plane of historical ignorance as believing that the reason the South seceded before the Civil War was because the North refused to end slavery. Actually, it might even be worse than that.

@9 “The Nazi party was a reaction to the excesses of the liberals in 1920’s Germany.”
What a load of crap. To blame the rise of Nazism on German liberalism is to pretend that World War I never occurred, that Germany’s defeat never occurred, that the humiliations imposed on Germany by the Versailles Treaty never occurred, that the postwar hyperinflation and depression never occurred, and that the Bolshevik revolution never occurred. Those factors, not liberalism, fertilized the soil in which the weed of Hitlerism flourished. The only role German liberals had in all this was the German liked Hitler’s response to ordinary Germans’ fear and insecurity better than the liberals’. To blame Hitler on the German liberals is like blaming Bush on the Democrats because they lost the 2000 and 2004 elections.

These are the guys that would throw spitwads, paper airplanes, crack wise at new pieces of information, and totally ignored the books they were issued for the class. This could be the stupidest comment in the history of this blog. I don’t even know where to begin.
Blame the Jews ->Blame the Republicans
Hitler and the Nazis blamed the Jews for being too liberal and too aligned with Communists. He also blamed them for not being patriotic enough during World War I and for being too pacifist. Numerous times, he refers to Jews and the liberal press as part and parcel of the same dynamic. This comparison doesn’t hold in any way. It’s utterly retarded.
Nationalize Industries -> Nationalize Industries
The Democrats have absolutely no interest in nationalizing industries to the extent that Nazi Germany did. That said, the motivation behind the Nazi nationalization was to consolidate power for the existing upper class, which is actually more similar to how the Republicans have been merging the interests of large corporations with the legislation that Congress produces. Again, your comparison falls on its face.
Brown shirts -> Purple shirts SEIU

Deathfrogg spews:
Interesting opinion piece on the same subject:
Note, the details are scanty, but the man gets the gist of what is being said in the comparison between nazism and the current efforts by the Democrats to create a whole new paradigm in medical care coverage. The people that are saying these things are the same sort of people who were going around London and New York City, smashing automatic looms because their weaving jobs were being usurped by machinery.
It is always the same, new ideas, new illustrations of problems within an existing system are met with resistance, often violent, mostly rhetorical, but always rooted in ignorance of the problems that emerge with the existing system. Such people flatly refuse to even look at what is right in front of their eyes, it disturbs their nice, comfortable little world too much. Even when that world would become a better place if that source of stress, that problem, no longer had to become a disaster when the need for the service exceeded their financial ability to access it.
We can solve the health insurance crisis, we can solve the massive debt structures created by the current system to maintain that boot-on-the-neck of the American people. Debt is slavery. Debt and the systemic maintenance that creates that debt is tyranny. Corporations should never be allowed to tyrannize citizens that have no choice but to use they system they present as being the only solution to the emergent problem.
Debts incurred by medical care are the number one cause of ALL personal bankruptcies in this country. Over 50% of all personal bankruptcies are founded in overwhelming medical debts.
A man can go from owning property, being happy, to becoming a slave with no life of his own, because of debts incurred by doing the right thing and seeking medical care for himself or his family. Insurance is no guarantee of relief of that, all too often the insurance company will chisel the payout, or deny it altogether. That leaves the individual holding the bag on massive, overwhelming debts that stay with him or her for the rest of their lives. Whole estates are regularly confiscated by these companies after the death of the individual who used their services.
We incarcerate people for refusing to take their kids to a doctor when those kids die from what would have been a curable medical problem. Are we going to start prosecuting people for refusing to take on debts related to medical care? This is a rationale for the system as it exists now. Are we going to start prosecuting people for exceeding credit limits when they max out every resource to pay off medical bills?
This was actually proposed in congress back in 2003 as a solution to the problem of debts related to medical care. Congress was aware of the crisis 25 years ago. They refused to even address the issue untill the Hospital companies started demanding a solution, with the only consideration being that of protecting their buisiness.
Certainly, the private prison industry is slavering at the thought. They’ll charge you with incurring too much debt, then charge you for the time you are incarcerated, and make you work forever in a slave pen to repay a debt to a private buisiness at a rate of pay that guarantees the permanent state of debt to you, and everyone in your family. Coal companies used to work this way. The English had this system so well emplaced in their culture that everyone in a family could be imprisoned for debt incurred generations before.
Achilles had the right idea. Just cut the knot. It is just too complex and too tighty stressed to try to untangle it. Take the corporations out of the system completely. They are not doing anything except protecting their now fatally wounded cash cow.

The environmental movement started with Teddy Roosevelt and Gifford Pinchot, both of whom were Republicans. The Water Quality Act became law in 1987 with the Support of President Reagan.

Oh wait, you mean shut down meetings like this account of liberals trying to prevent others from the freedom of assembly and free speech during WTO?
“Once downtown, protesters are told to arrange themselves into human chains, blocking off the intersections from foot and vehicle traffic. The idea is effectively to shut down the WTO by making it impossible for delegates to get from their hotels to events, including this morning’s opening ceremonies at the downtown Paramount Theatre.
And that’s precisely what happens. One by one, delegates try to make their way to the opening ceremonies, only to be met by crowds of protesters blockading the streets, arms attached. When the delegates try to dart down an alley or back into their hotels, the human chain widens, and the protesters block off those entrances, too. It’s kind of like urban musical chairs, and the delegates can’t find a place to sit.
I hang out at one intersection for a half-hour or so, and in that period, the protesters block about 10 people from entering the WTO opening ceremonies. Many of the delegates smile and try peacefully to negotiate their way past the human chains, but the protesters smile back, and refuse to let them pass. A few attempt forcibly to push through, but they, too, are repelled.
It’s pretty amazing to watch this all unfold. Within an hour or so, the protesters have built human chains within every major downtown intersection and outside almost all of the downtown hotels.”

Didn’t “the messiah” tell the world Dr Wright was his spiritual advisor, only to throw him under the bus when the heat got too hot in the kitchen?
Dummocrapts could not get mileage out of Hagee because there was no road to travel upon unlike “the messiah” and Dr Wright.

Proudtobeanass: WTF does this have to do with anything fool
It’s because Pelletizer has no grip on historical facts proudtobeanass. Yet you give him a pass.
Did you read the “Brownshirts” link from Another TJ? Look up Night of the LongKnives. It gives you much information around how the Nazis left socialism in the 1930s during the Depresssion. But then of course Pelletizer is historically ignorant.
See ya Proud. Stay an historical ASS!
Lee spews:
@70
The Nazi’s were never real socialists. There were some who saw American capitalism as a threat on par with Communism, but the Night of the Long Knives was Hitler’s effort to defeat that wing of the National Socialist movement.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Historical Revisionist @70: The “Night of the Long Knives” had nothing to do with socialists or socialism. That’s a fact; and all of your verbal somersaults can’t change historical facts.
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Pelletizer@72 Before you call anyone a historical revisionist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N.....ong_Knives.
Lee, as the article opens…”The SA (sometimes known as the “Stormtroopers” or “Brownshirts”) was the paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party that played a key role in the Nazi rise to power in the 1920s, culminating with Hitler’s appointment as German chancellor in 1933.”
Further in “By the summer of 1933, the Sturmabteilung (SA) had grown discontented with the progress of the Nazi regime. Many had taken seriously the socialism of National Socialism and were angry at Hitler and the other party leaders for abandoning socialist principles.”

Roger Rabbit spews:
@81 “Puddy loves to read new material”
In that case, skip through my comment #82 to the link at the bottom and read the entire article that I quoted from, then report back here.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@81 (continued) Personally, poodlehead, I think you’re marching on command. That’s right, the Republican Noise Machine proclaimed that Hitler was a “socialist,” and the wingnut websites all fell into line and indoctrinated all the good little wingnuts with this thesis, and then your wingnut masters blew a whistle and all of you wingnuts starting regurgitating the new mantra from Wingnut Propaganda Central: “Hitler was a socialist.”
Poodlehead, you’ve never had an original thought in your life. All you know how to do is post wingnut crap on command when the whistle blows.
So, given that you claim not to have gotten this wingnut horseshit from Freep, would you like to tell us which wingnut website you did get it from? You certainly didn’t think of it yourself — you’re not that smart — so you had to get it somewhere. Not that it makes any difference, because all the wingnut blogs are saying the same thing: “Hitler was a socialist.” And poodle, good little wingnut that he is, marches to the drummer.
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Hey Pelletizer, Hitler a vegetarian?
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Yep Hitler was really a vegetarian…From WikiPedia Pelletizer..
“”On page 89 of The Gourmet Cooking School Cookbook (1964), Dione Lucas, recalling her pre-World War II stint as a hotel chef in Hamburg, Germany, states: ‘I do not mean to spoil your appetites for stuffed squab, but you might be interested to know that it was a great favorite with Mr. Hitler, who dined at the hotel often. Let us not hold that against a fine recipe though.'””
Roger Rabbit spews:
Idiot @85, 86 — Beat you to it, see #82 about 2/3rds of the way down. Yes, Hitler was a vegetarian — because he associated eating meat with the death of his girlfriend:
“Hitler’s vegetarianism had nothing to do with his political beliefs. He became a vegetarian shortly after the death of his girlfriend and half-niece, Geli Raubal. … Hitler would remain deeply distraught … for the rest of his life. As one historian writes: ‘Curiously, shortly after her death, Hitler looked with disdain on a piece of ham being served during breakfast and refused to eat it, saying it was like eating a corpse. From that moment on, he refused to eat meat.’ Hitler’s vegetarianism, then, was no more than a phobia, triggered by an association with his niece’s death.”
Nevertheless, from this anecdotal bit of information, poodlehead extrapolates that “Hitler was a socialist.” That takes quite a leap of imagination — much more imagination than poodle is capable of. All poodle does is regurgitate it on cue like a laboratory rat looking for the cheese when the bell rings.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I have definitely proved tonight that poodlehead is an unthinking automaton who posts talking points issued to him by Wingnut Central when an operative pushes a cue button.

Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Hitler biographer, Thomas Fuchs, in his book, A Concise Biography of Adolf Hitler (New York: Berkeley, 2000, p.78), also confirms that Hitler was not a vegetarian.
In the New York Times of May 30 1937, in an article entitled “Where Hitler Dreams and Plans,” Times reporter Otto D. Tolschuss wrote, “It is well known that Hitler is vegetarian and does not drink or smoke. His lunch and dinner consist, therefore, for the most part of soup, eggs, vegetables and mineral water, although he occasionally relishes a slice of ham and relieves the tediousness of his diet with such delicacies as caviar, luscious fruits and similar tidbits.”

@92 Now poodle links us to an irrelevant letter-to-the-editor about Wikipedia and the evils of self-publishing. And this has to do with what? Nothing we’ve been discussing so far as I can determine. Opinions are like assholes, poodle — everybody’s got one.
The opinion currently on the table is that of rightwing spinmeisters who assert “Hitler was a socialist” for the purpose of linking Obama and health are reform to Nazism. That’s right, folks, in the Republican mind affordable health care for all is the same thing as Nazi genocide.
Meanwhile, at townhall meetings where some of us are trying to conduct a serious discussion about health care, Republican protesters behave like Hitler Brownshirts — shouting people down, spreading lies, and brandishing guns.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Poodle’s response to the brownshirt behavior of Republican thugs is to claim Hitler wasn’t a vegetarian after all. What does that have to do with anything?
Roger Rabbit spews:
Poodle and the rest of the rightwing leemings probably get their “information” from “The Hitler Diaries.” They seem to have an affinity for frauds, hoaxes, and forgeries of all kinds.

In other words if you want us to take you even halfway seriously don’t start talking like someone who’s tinfoil hat is a bit too tight.
rhp6033 spews:
My God, reading “delberts” comments reminds me why we should be teaching history better in school – along with a few other things, like classical rhetoric.
You see, the Republicans (including Delbert) are simply trying to create yet another straw-man, which according to classical Greek rhetoric is a logical fallacy, the creation by rhetorical devices of an opponant who is intentionally so unsupportable that he is easy to deride or dismiss. In other words, he is building an opponant as a “man of straw”, putting a sign on it with the name of his opponant, and then laughing at how easy it is to knock it down.
That’s exactly the approach the Republicans have taken in this health-care debate. They aren’t debating the actual bills, because they know that if they did, they would lose. They are constructing a straw-man of a bill, one that no one would support, and then encouraging everyone to come out against it. The problem is, it has no relationship at all with the proposals being suggested.
But it’s particularly discouraging to hear them try to equate an attempt to broaden health care access for all with an organization which killed in excess of 6 million directly in the Holocaust, and another 20 million plus in their quest for world conquest. Using such terms in a political debate over health care trivializes the crims of the Nazis, and they should be ashamed and embarrased. Every WWII vet should come come out in force and shame them for uttering such nonsense.
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Chris, Puddy brought up Illuminati because it’s historical record. Puddy should not bring up Eugenics as historical record because progressives supported it?
