Monday Open Thread

by Carl Ballard — Monday, 7/28/25, 8:02 am

Oh hey. The newly opened Pier 58 looks pretty great. It looks like kids were really enjoying the new playground and people of all ages have more park space by the water. And whatever my objections were to the tunnel, this isn’t all in the shadow of a giant freeway.

As I was walking down the waterfront to work this morning, there were already kids playing on the playground. I think it’s a hit beyond just the opening celebrations.

Looks like the dumbfucks who thought it would be a good idea to run Boxcheck Momala and Cut And Run Walz are still running the DNC:

The Democratic National Committee on Thursday posted a chart blaming President Donald Trump for high grocery prices—a chart that actually showed prices soaring during Joe Biden’s presidency and plateauing under Trump. The committee soon deleted the post following widespread mockery on social media.

The chart, titled “U.S. Grocery Prices Reached Record Highs in 2025,” claimed that prices are “higher today than they were [in] July 2024.”

“Trump’s America,” the DNC’s official X account wrote alongside the graph.

The DNC failed to realize, however, that the chart showed grocery prices skyrocketing beginning in 2021—shortly after Biden took office—and leveling off in late 2024—following Trump’s reelection.

Is it any wonder libbies are acting out the way they are? Their leadership is a joke.

Colbert might be funny at times, but in NYC he’s no Letterman.

NYC’s ‘We’re With Colbert’ rally for late-night host is a bust with just 20 protesters

Why are libbies so upset about the cancellation of Colbert’s show?

Might have something to do with the echo chamber they have come to expect:

Since 2022, Colbert has hosted 176 left-leaning guests and only one Republican on soon-to-be cancelled “The Late Show,” according to a study by media watchdog NewsBusters — a staggering imbalance that has tracked with his 2025 guest list.

In just the first six months of this year, the show booked 43 left-leaning political guests — and zero conservatives — leading all late-night programs in partisan tilt.

Democrats Get Lowest Rating From Voters in 35 Years, WSJ Poll Finds
Republicans preferred on most issues that decide elections despite unease with Trump over the economy, tariffs and foreign policy

The Democratic Party’s image has eroded to its lowest point in more than three decades, according to a new Wall Street Journal poll, with voters seeing Republicans as better at handling most issues that decide elections.

The new survey finds that 63% of voters hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party—the highest share in Journal polls dating to 1990 and 30 percentage points higher than the 33% who hold a favorable view.

That is a far weaker assessment than voters give to either President Trump or the Republican Party, who are viewed more unfavorably than favorably by 7 points and 11 points, respectively. A mere 8% of voters view the Democrats “very favorably,” compared with 19% who show that level of enthusiasm for the GOP.

DOJ announces charges against employees of a medical clinic who asked for a warrant before letting them into private property.

That’s not all they did. ACAB has pulled this shit before, with the tranny in Atlanta’s Cop City who shot at LEO before getting his own nutsack fenestrated by return fire. In that case he neglected to mention the shooting first and wounding a cop part of the story.

This time he neglects to mention that the two arrested individuals physically attempted to prevent ICE from apprehending an illegal. He also neglected to provide a link, which helps him convince the low-IQ HA libbies that his perspective is the only one.

Here is the perspective of DHS:

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California today announced federal charges against Jose de Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila. DHS law enforcement arrested Ortega today and is seeking the arrest of Davila following charges for assaulting a federal officer and conspiracy to prevent by force and intimidation a federal officer from discharging his duties.

“The media attempted to demonize ICE agents by saying that our agents were arresting individuals inside a medical center—but that is completely FALSE. On July 8, ICE officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation where one of the illegal aliens fled on foot to evade law enforcement and ended up near the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center in San Bernadino County. Surgical Center staff members Jose de Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila obstructed and assaulted ICE agents,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Today, these individuals are being charged for their crime. Anyone who actively obstructs or assaults law enforcement, including U.S. citizens, will face consequences which include arrest.”

On July 8, 2025, ICE officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation to arrest two illegal aliens. Officers in clearly marked ICE bullet proof vests approached the illegal alien targets as they exited a vehicle. One of the illegal aliens, Denis Guillen-Solis who is from Honduras, fled on foot to evade law enforcement. He ended up near the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center where hospital staff assaulted law enforcement and dragged the officer and illegal alien into the facility.

The two staff members attempted to obstruct law enforcement’s arrest by locking the door, blocking law enforcement vehicles from moving and calling police claiming there was a “kidnapping.”

https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/07/25/dhs-statement-arrest-man-charged-assaulting-ice-law-enforcement-officers#:~:text=The two staff members attempted, there was a “kidnapping.”

ACAB is a POS cop-hating asshole who lies for fun, and possibly also for a living. He’s really bad at it. As Democrats continue to lose ground perhaps they will realize that it is in no small part because too many of them are gullible enough to believe the lies of POS like ACAB.

Trump trade deals prove access to the U.S. still matters above all else

The big picture: Trump announced agreements with Europe and Japan in which both agreed to drop their tariff rates to zero, promised eye-popping investments in the U.S., and opened markets to American producers.

In return, those countries get some assurance on their tariff rate — both 15%, and both of which could have been worse — even if it puts their industries at a disadvantage.
What they’re saying: “Both Tokyo and Brussels apparently viewed the price of a 15% tariff worth paying in light of the alternative of higher tariffs, uncertainty and counter-retaliation,” Wendy Cutler, former acting U.S. trade representative under Obama, tells Axios.

The White House said that smaller nations — including Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia — would also lower their tariffs and open markets to U.S. producers.
Driving the news: Trump announced the U.S.-EU deal on Sunday afternoon in Scotland, mere days before the White House was set to impose 30% levies on European goods.

The last president got us 9% inflation. The current one is balancing international trade disparities.

    From the link @32:

The rapid felony dismissals are a major embarrassment for the Trump-appointed US attorney for southern California, Bill Essayli, and appeared to be the result of an unusual series of missteps by the justice department, former federal prosecutors said. The Guardian’s review of records found:

Out of nine “assault” and “impeding” felony cases the justice department filed immediately after the start of the protests and promoted by the attorney general, Pam Bondi, prosecutors dismissed seven of them soon after filing the charges.

In reports that led to the detention and prosecution of at least five demonstrators, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents made false statements about the sequence of events and misrepresented incidents captured on video.

One DHS agent accused a protester of shoving an officer, when footage appeared to show the opposite: the officer forcefully pushed the protester.

One indictment named the wrong defendant, a stunning error that has jeopardized one of the government’s most high-profile cases.

Not just embarrassing; unethical. Prosecutors are supposed to review cases before filing charges. Not to mention such cases are fodder for civil rights lawsuits.

If ICE’s entire manpower ends up on Brady lists, what will Bondi and Essayli do then?

What’s really scaring liberals about DJT47’s tariff threats and the effect they are having on other nations and on the US is this:

    Economy
Even with high tariffs, Trump’s trade war suddenly is starting to look not so scary on Wall Street

With the U.S.-European Union trade deal over the weekend, it now appears that the effective tariff rate, or the net impact aside from the nominal level, will end up in the 15%-20% range. That’s well above the low single-digit rate in place at the beginning of the year, but well off the feared 25% rate or worse that could have happened as a result of the April 2 announcement.

Economists had feared that aggressive tariffs Trump proposed in his April 2 “liberation day” announcement would spike inflation and lead to a pronounced slowdown or recession.

But doomsday pronouncements around the tariffs have abated since then. Economists cite a strong global growth backdrop, a less-than-expected, long-term inflationary impact of the tariffs and a general easing in financial conditions as reasons for why the landscape looks less dire.

    Because of the EU tariffs:

    • the US Treasury will see an inflow of billions and billions of tariff dollars

    • the US will move close to parity with our European trading partners

    • the hyped inflation consequence will be far less than, well, than hyped.

Which leaves liberals very little to complain about. Credibly, anyway. And credibility isn’t something a party that nominates Hakeem Jeffries to its top House post can reasonably expect to earn.

…the U.S. will import more from Canada (+$128 billion) and Mexico (+$77 billion), as well as from the United Kingdom (+$23 billion), which recently signed a trade deal with the U.S.

So we’ll buy less plastic and more wood. No biggie.

And you really don’t want to look at what the tariff on Canadian hardwood is doing to the cost of new home construction. (Google os free)

@44 His comment, “spike the price domestically” isn’t idle speculation. In April of this year, a website called lngindustry.com said (here) that

US exports of LNG represent the largest source of natural gas demand growth in the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) March 2025 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) …. In the March 2025 STEO, annual demand exceeds supply in both 2025 and 2026, leading to lower inventories and increasing Henry Hub prices in both years. The EIA forecasts the Henry Hub natural gas spot price will almost double from an average of about US$2.20/million Btu in 2024 to an average of nearly US$4.20/million Btu in 2025, and increase an additional 7% to average just under US$4.50/million Btu in 2026.

So, we’re looking at a doubling of natural gas prices in two years, and LNG exports are the main driver of pricing pressures.

A small proportion of U.S. electricity producers can switch from natural gas to other fuels, to adapt to fuel availability and pricing, primarily on the East Coast. And LNG exports are limited by terminal capacities. But we’re selling more LNG to someone, and that will push up prices for natural gas and electricity consumers both here and in Europe.

But hey, egg prices are coming down somewhat in local grocery stores, although still elevated. And senior citizens just got a tax break from Trump and the GOP Congress to help them pay higher state taxes for the disaster relief, Medicaid, and other federal spending being shifted to states.

That Department head better not eat a burger in front of the Hindu division head and Atheist CEO can tell them all to fuck off and get back to work and eat the bacon I put in the cafeteria or NONE of you will end up in the E-Suite.

@43 If the arrest was illegal, there goes the exigent circumstances defense, if there ever was one. And even if the entry was legal pursuant to that doctrine, clotheslining a staff member merely for asking for a warrant is an unjustified use of force outside the protection of qualified immunity even if no warrant was required.

    12,
DHS is on the legal record in Federal Court in CA commiting perjury in order to bring false charges against American citizens asserting their constitutional rights. A criminal contempt inquiry is underway.

Nobody gives a fuck what DHS’s “perspective” is.

    DHS is a perjurer.

@46 Yeah, raising tariffs from a couple percent to 15% won’t have a catastrophic effect on consumer prices or the economy, it’ll only wipe out the middle class tax breaks in the Big Ugly Bill and then some.

As for the “inflow of billions” of tariff dollars to the Treasury, that revenue represents replacing income taxes on the rich with a sales tax on the poor, working, and middle classes.

    32,
More than 3/4 of DHS criminal cases against American citizens charged with “interfering” have already been dismissed after being found to have been the result of perjury.

These are cases that never should have been brought. The lies, omissions and inconsistencies in the probable cause affidavits are too glaring for the courts to ignore. A normal AUSA knows better

But Fat Hitler fires them if they decline to file false charges against his enemies.

Right. Who needs frying pans, toasters, toilet plungers, garden rakes, etc.? Good luck finding “Made In USA” versions of those products.

The U.S. imports about 35% of its lumber, 90% of which comes from Canada, where tariffs and duties are more than doubling.

Industry and homebuilding sources estimate that will raise lumber prices by 15%-25% and add $9,200 to the average cost of new homes.

    It’s a criminal syndicate.
