– Racing the 8 for hopefully better service in the future.

– We’re going to have to do more to save the orcas at a time when the Federal government is doing less.

Going to have to decide who to vote for for King County Executive soon. I recommend the Hacks and Wonks interviews if you haven’t heard them yet.

    Did you know that

    • more than 140 countries produce citrus fruit?

    • China and Brazil produce more citrus fruit than the United States does?

    • citrus fruits face growing competition from other fruits and other food product categories.. And that if California fell into the sea other fruits would rather quickly be turned to by the rest of the world?

And say, how many of those troops currently in California were born there, and how many are currently stationed there but could easily be moved somewhere else?

California will be second on the list of states in need of a federal bailout. Then you can brag about how much more money it will cost the taxpayer to bail out California than it would to bail out any other state, fuckwad.

Texas flood victims and other red state disaster victims (there will be many) have to do without federal disaster aid because Kristi Dog Slayer believes the “FEMA camps” conspiracy theory.. to wit:

The heart of the theory … is that disaster relief stations set up by the agency are actually “FEMA camps” to imprison white Christians — often backed up by falsely claiming that various military training exercises around the country are being staged by FEMA. “The racist subtext is never hard to spot. Militia groups that promote ‘FEMA camps’ conspiracies will often spin yarns about how ‘urban gangs’ will be recruited to round up ‘patriots’ — their code word for white conservative Christians — into camps.”

Republicans: Fossil fuels are “green energy” because we say so.

In Louisiana, natural gas—a planet-heating fossil fuel—is now, by law, considered “green energy” that can compete with solar and wind projects for clean energy funding. The law, signed by Republican Governor Jeff Landry last month, comes on the heels of similar bills passed in Ohio, Tennessee, and Indiana. What the bills have in common—besides an “updated definition” of a fossil fuel as a clean energy source—is language seemingly plucked straight from a right-wing think tank backed by oil and gas billionaire and activist Charles Koch.

The #8 bus, used to be a Seattle Center, Capitol Hill via Denny routing, but extended down MLK Jr Way in the late 90s. I remember the petition drive by locals in front of the Eagle Hardware store that used to be Sicks Stadium. At the time, except for a couple block stretch of route 4, there had never been much bus service on MLK north of Rainier going back to when it was Empire Way, First missed opportunity when Seattle Municipal Railway replaced the Seattle and Rainier Valley Interurban with a bus on Rainier. No need to have the Empire Way bus continue North on Rainier after that.

Another was during the Crosstown Bus Committee of the 1960s lobbying for restoring bus service on 23rd in the Central District. CBC and local chapter of CORE weren’t greedy, only pushed for restoring a route that had previously existed. Seattle Municipal Railway had a crosstown shuttle on 23rd between Jackson and Cherry,(wasn’t for being pro-active serving the minority neighborhood, but more of it wasn’t a big loss generator on non-revenue miles, being a short run, and the barn on 14th and Jefferson) Replaced by a motor bus when the conversion occurred, and eliminated when Seattle Transit needed the buses for routes serving war industries. A bus on Empire would have probably hurt the case for what became Rt48, as Seattle Transit said a crosstown route on 23rd wasn’t going to be profitable. The activists rode late night runs of Queen Anne and other affluent area routes, found those runs sparsely used. With that and a threatened boycott from the sizable ridership base of the CD, the sort-of independent Seattle Transit Commission relented and gave the 23rd Ave proposal a try. That pilot route is now going on 60.

Now with the 8, most of the delays seem to be on the Seattle Center-Denny-Capitol Hill portion. The MLK Jr Way portion is largely a straight shot, but with a necessary detour along Yesler and Jackson over to 23rd to provide transfers to the 4 and 48.

32)They are working on it, already a few short lines have done one man crews. Although one railroad, it did cost jobs, but not railroaders, but truckers. Others, for the worse, like Lac Magantic. The engineer when he went off duty, didn’t set enough hand brakes, which could have been a good backup when the firefighter shut the locomotive off. Diesel locomotives get a bad rap for having to idle when not in use(could be for hours), but the engine is needed to keep air pressure in the brakes. Short lines have been at the forefront with experiments on fixing that.

Precision Scheduled Railroading has helped give the railroads an excuse for ignoring their mandate to give Amtrak priority.. Freight Trains too long for the sidings.

As for legislating two man crews, for certain freight operations, I’m for it. The NY Subway operators union pushing such a bill in Albany for the NYCTA, not so much. Most light and heavy rail operations are one man operation. Not sure if San Francisco still requires an operator in the 2nd car of a 2 car MUNI-Metro train. Had it’s roots in that the operator used to collect the fares. Wasn’t the first time the operator Union stuck to old operating rules. If they had gone for one man operation by the early 1950s, MUNI might have opted to purchase a few hundred more PCCs, possibly re-equipping more than the 5 lines that survived the 50s.

Republican congressman Cory Mills is now under an eviction order for his apartment in Washington DC for failure to pay over $80,000 in rent. The penthouse apartment rents for $20,000 a month. Now the people who are constantly insisting that AOC has made herself a millionaire in Congress, not true, might wonder how a guy with $120,000 an annual salary can afford 240,000 a year in rent?

Well, wonder not. After a stint in the army, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Mills has worked exclusively for defense contractors until founding his own company PACEM (cute Latin for peace). What does PACEM do you might wonder? Well wonder no more they facilitate arms deals of US weapons to various entities, including Iraq.

But in deadbeat fashion, the company is currently being sued and appears to be according to discovery $48 million in debt to a single creditor.

Mills claims that it was simply a misunderstanding that his payment link was interrupted and that’s why he has not paid his rent. Now I don’t know a whole lot about $20,000 a month apartments but I do know you’re gonna get a lot of letters before our company move forward into the eviction process and have plenty of time to fix your payment link before you end up over $80,000 in debt

Like my coworker whose Dad smoked a pack and a half a day and dropped dead of a heart attack four months after getting the second shot …

More like the cohort of healthy male teen athletes who developed myocarditis within days to a couple of weeks after the vaccine was administered.

    This from the CDC:

…evidence from multiple vaccine safety monitoring systems in the United States and around the globe supports a causal association between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (i.e., Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech) and myocarditis and pericarditis.

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle and pericarditis is inflammation of the lining outside the heart; myopericarditis is when both myocarditis and pericarditis occur at the same time. In these conditions, inflammation occurs in response to an infection or some other trigger. CDC has published case definitions for myocarditis and pericarditis.

Though cases of myocarditis and pericarditis are rare, when cases have occurred, they have most frequently been seen in adolescent and young adult males within 7 days after receiving the second dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine; however, cases have also been observed in females, in other age groups, and after other doses.

    https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/clinical-considerations/myocarditis.html

The truth is that based on what we now know, and what we in most cases have known for some time, for the vast majority of people COVID-19 vaccinations are unnecessary and do more harm than good.

It’s been more than 5 years since the virus went global, and it’s been nearly 5 years since the vaccines were introduced. Five years is enough time for metadata studies to be reported. In the next several months we are going to see an awful lot of published data about the limited benefits and heretofore suppressed detriments of the vaccines.

Hopefully we will learn from this for the next time.

    AMA, one year later.

Myocarditis is a rare side effect of the vaccine and has only occurred in a small number of people after vaccination. For the young people who do develop myocarditis after vaccination, most cases are mild, and recovery will happen on its own or with minimal treatment.

Additionally, myocarditis and pericarditis are much more common if you get COVID-19. The risks to the heart from COVID-19 infection can be more severe

Wholly irrelevant, as the vaccine provides no protection from acquiring the disease.

No issues with heart distress.. I remember a lot of coughing, overall body aches, sharp pains in the back (i thought it was the kidneys), loss of appetite, no desire to do anything except rest in bed and sleep until it passed.. But with all the discomfort – I got little sleep. Post recovery I had some loss of the senses of taste and smell. I think I got that back. I hope I did. I highly enjoy quality food and drink.

My last jab (my fifth, iirc) was last January. No I’m not a young person. I recall when the epidemic started reading that 50 year olds in great shape getting hammered by the virus. In 2025 it’s a different virus, probably just as contagious but maybe not as lethal.

Inflation picked up in June, a sign that President Donald Trump’s tariffs are beginning to push up costs of appliances, furniture, clothing and other everyday goods across the economy.

The price increases in June were broad-based, affecting imports such as cosmetics, shoes and toys, as well as services like medical care, car insurance and education. Meanwhile, vehicle prices and airfares fell, in part because of dampened demand.

@82 Burdening wage earners barely scraping by with a hefty tariff tax puts stock ownership farther away from them than ever before. And all so the rich can write off the entire cost of their private jets in the year of purchase.

If you drill down into it, though, there’s probably a significant number of rich who won’t benefit from that tax writeoff, because they’re not paying taxes now.
