Here is some “politics” for you!
Great job of useless “earmarks” by Patty Murray & Norm Dicks in Seattle Times article today:

Our system is broken. While we sit here arguing who is the most corrupt, R’s or D’s….they are both screwing us royally everyday.

Write to Murray & Dicks about this political payoff travesty.

I thought you said you were black? Are you now assuming that all blacks are “one of us” even though you’re not? Or did you forget that you claim to be black here?

It wasn’t, but hey, discuss New Hampshire all you want in this thread (I didn’t say it, but this thread is open). :)

Vermont town seeks Bush, Cheney arrests

Town in Liberal Vermont Considers Measure to Have Bush, Cheney Arrested for War Crimes

President Bush may soon have a new reason to avoid left-leaning Vermont: In one town, activists want him subject to arrest for war crimes.

A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community.

“This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they’re supposed to do,” said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.

As president, Bush has visited every state except Vermont.

On July 2, 1991 President George H.W. Bush nominated Thomas to replace Thurgood Marshall who had recently announced his retirement. Marshall had been the only African American justice on the court. The selection of Thomas preserved the existing racial balance of the court, but it was seen as likely to move the ideological balance to the right.

American Bar Association’s (ABA) rating for Judge Thomas was split between “qualified” and “not qualified.”

Organizations including the NAACP, the Urban League and the National Organization for Women opposed the appointment based on Thomas’s criticism of affirmative action and suspicions that Thomas might not be a supporter of the Supreme Court judgment in Roe v. Wade. Under questioning during confirmation hearings, Thomas repeatedly asserted that he had not formulated a position on the Roe decision.

    WankerBud spews:

    Now on the court:

He (Thomas) has advocated the reversal of Roe v. Wade, joining the dissenting opinion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, and writing the concurrence in Gonzales v. Carhart. Justice Thomas’ judicial philosophy is most similar to Justice Scalia’s. He voted with Scalia 91% of the time during the court’s ’06-’07 session.

Sorry for drifting so far off topic but perhaps I’m not off topic. After all the constant theme in all the HA posts is the lies and hypocrisy of the right. Demonstrated by Puddy and Piper and the other wingnuts in their comments and pointed out by the lefties in their comments.

Bush’s stubborness explained by brain tests on rats:

    The Hangover That Lasts:

…bad news for recovering binge-drinkers who have achieved a sobriety that has lasted years. The more we have binged — and the younger we have started to binge — the more we experience significant, though often subtle, effects on the brain and cognition.”…

“Even after longstanding sobriety this inflammatory response translates into a tendency to stay the course, a diminished capacity for relearning and maladaptive decision-making.”

    Irv Kupcinet spews:

Bush is a religious nut. He speaks into the void to his imaginary playmate, Jesus, and imagines that he gets responses from said imaginary playmate. Public policy is determined by the imagined answers from the void.

Anyone who thinks that Jesus talks to Bush is just as crazy as he is.

That’s the point I’ve been trying to make…people here in these threads, and in positions of power (worse yet) who disregard 500+ years of progress (except where it benefits them, of course*) who elevate superstition above rationality.

Science is our best shot for surviving the next 100 years, not religion.

    * It is my opinion that religious, superstitious fools should not have access to modern, science-based healthcare. If you don’t agree that evolutionary theory is the best explanation for the diversity of species on this planet, or believe that the planet is only 6000 years old, for example, you should be forced to resort to the state of ‘medicine’ people ‘enjoyed’ back in the 13th Century, in the days before rational, systematic (scientific) exploration began to lift Europe out of the Dark Ages.

Headache? Have a ‘surgeon’ remove the stone from your head. Disease or mental illness? You must need an exorcism! No antibiotics for you, because you if you don’t accept scientific explanations (no cherry picking!) you don’t accept the germ theory of disease! And don’t forget the leeches! :-) It is also my opinion that after a couple of years of 13th Century ‘medicine’ a lot more folks would stop with this nonsense of pretending that they don’t accept scientific explanations for natural phenomena.

    Wingnut hypocrite @ 24

If you want earmarks to stop, then support public financing of elections. As long as money plays a dominant factor in politics, you’ll see earmarks from both parties.

And sorry earmarks got out of control under the previous two wingnut Congresses.

  14. 27

    Don Joe spews:

    @ 25

Personally, I’m not at all fond of earmarks, but they are a political reality. Expecting politicians to completely eradicate them is not exactly realistic.

However, the issue with earmarks when Republicans ran Congress wasn’t so much to do with earmarks themselves as it had to do with the clandestine manner in which Republicans would slip earmarks into spending bills while completely blocking Democrats out of the process–including committee chairmen canceling some budget meetings if Democrats even showed up. It was really quite pathetic.

  15. 28

    YLB spews:

Holier than thou hypocrite @ 26

Publicly finance elections and the motivation to earmark goes way down. If a company wants the government to buy their product or service, it should be judged on the merits in an open bidding process.

Yes, that applies to members of both political parties, to mine and especially those of your corrupt, bankrupt R party that’s going down the tubes in 2008!!

Gee we hope Goldy doesn’t ask us on his show tonight about how we endorsed Joe Szwaja in the city council primary for Jean Godden’s seat this year and then switched our endorsement to Jean Godden for the election even though nothing about their experience or stands on issues had changed. If it was any other news publication that did that they would be accused of lacking integrity. But we are The Sranger!! Rules of journalistic integrity, consistency, ethics and morality don’t apply to us. We hope that Goldy never realizes his star is tarnished by associating with us. Otherwise we can’t go on his radio show and promote our brand.

The issue is that Murray & Dicks blindly supported a “pig-in-a-poke” on these earmarks.

This is THEIR (Dicks & Murray) responsibility. They added this earmark….. right in our backyard.
The typical Dem response is to ignore the facts on this one & blame R’s..which is precisely why this problem has exacerbated.
To say the only solution to this is Publicly Financed Elections is ludicrous.
They could end ear-marks tomorrow….and promised to do so.
That is what the Dem’s huffed & puffed about doing. Another example of saying one thing to get elected….then not following thru.
The 2 party System is broken.
I blame both Party’s…..and the unprincipled blind partisanship of the kooks on both sides running these shows.
The Country is ripe for a Conservative-leaning, smaller government, Libertarian Party.
Watch 2012. Perot showed in was possible.
    Bush popularity around 36%
    Congress less than 25%.
Pretty much a strong indicator that folks are looking for a new way of doing things.
These “earmarks” just throw fuel on the fire.

Clueless Gooberfool: The Annual Earmark Book was authored by Robert 3K Byrd for over 40 years. I see you missed the latest. – Citizens Against Government Waste

“Reid and Senate Appropriations Chairman Byrd have sent word they are not on board with more earmark cuts. Senators already compromised by agreeing to reduce earmarks by 40 percent from two years ago and are not about to cut the lower figure in half, aides said.”

“Byrd has helped earmark nearly $229 million in three major spending bills for fiscal year 2008.”

“In 1988, the highway received its first funding in the amount of $16 million. That was the beginning of a 135-mile road that will connect Interstate 79 at Weston to near I-66 and I-81 near Strasburg, Va.

The project had been ridiculed nationwide as the “Robert Byrd Road to Nowhere,” but completion of the highway has remained a top priority for West Virginia officials who want to open up the rural, north-central part of the state to the Eastern Seaboard.”

One of you means he probably votes donk!

    Are you kidding me?

It has nothing to do with color.

Then what does it have to do with? We’re talking about a police officer who used his position of power in a self-defense class to rape a 15-year-old. Exactly how are you going to make a gigantic ass of yourself explaining that away?
