Carol King? I was just listening to her CD along with James Tailor, their live reprisal of their days at the Troubedor in L.A. in the early 1970’s. It brought back a lot of memories.

And at lunchtime of the Dori Monson show, Dori was ranting about how Dave Inslee’s tax returns don’t show any savings or investment income, which to him is evidence by itself not to vote for him.
Of course, Dori thinks anybody who can’t get rich in a few years isn’t really trying. I could only listen to him for about four minutes, which is a minute beyond my usual limit of tolerance for listening to utter and complete stupidity.
Dori’s a talking mouthpiece for McKenna this campaign.

Washed-up old people for Inslee! I think I’m gonna hurl. But, I’m still gonna vote for him.

@Michael: Carole is an iconic songwriter. I’m pretty sure you’ve hummed along on somebodies’ version of her songs — and will for many years to come.
Rich and retired on royalties and still a great singer and performer when she feels like it. That’s a damn fine gig if you can get it.
Old maybe. “Washed up” — definitely not. Carole has been a tireless champion of the environment and other progressive causes.

That was just snark @ 3. Part of the anti-baby boomer kick I’ve been on lately.

@5 I’m tired of baby boomers, too. Let’s get rid of all the baby boomers and let rabbits run this place.

# 4: Yep, get a list of the songs she’s written, and you would be amazed at how many she wrote but were recorded and made famous by other artists. Loco-Motion (not my favorite), Up on the Rooftop (the drifters), Pleasant Valley Sunday (Monkees), and others too numerous to mention. She even wrote a newer song recorded by Celine Dion.
What’s funny is how many of the “youth” in their teens and twenties are adopting songs by the Baby Boomers, they’ve acquired a taste for early Rock ‘n Roll and Classic Rock.

Carole King got her start writing advertising jingles, I believe. One of the best songwriters of the 60s generation. Her voice, a bit nasal, didn’t help her very much when it came to performing, but I’d still go listen to her, anyday. I think she lives in Sun Valley, Idaho, now, so if she’s talking Washington politics, she at least lives in the neighborhood.

# 9: As a teenager she went to work at the Brill Building in New York, a “songwriting factory” from where quite a few writers and songwriters were developed. She (and her husband at the time, Jerry Goffen) worked with Neil Sedaka, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Burt Bacharach, Bobby Darin, Phil Specter, and many others. Their work pretty much defined American popular music in the early 1960’s, before the British Invasion, and returned again to prominence about 1967. Many of the songwriters flourished under the singer-songwriter era of the early 1970’s, Carol King among them.

And an old burned out hippy’s opinion matters how? I never have understood peoples facination with the opinions of pop or movie stars..even washed up ones. To me, they are so far removed from reality that their opinion is pretty much worthless….
