Home Depot dumps Bill O’Reilly?

It looks like Bill O’Reilly’s crusade to shame corporate America from sponsoring hate-talking media seems to have scored another victory:

Home Depot seems to have had a change of heart. They’re now unequivocally telling their customers that they will not advertise on Bill O’Reilly’s show.

Personally, I tend to shy away from supporting boycotts. But if O’Reilly and his masters at News Corp are intent on waging economic war on the nascent progressive media infrastructure, then it is time to fight fire with fire. And when O’Reilly compares liberal bloggers like me to the Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan, he not only insults the victims of these hate groups, but as David Neiwert points out, he is projecting.

Bill O’Reilly is a hate-talker. FOX News is a hate group. It is time to start letting corporate America know that they will lose the business of mainstream America if they continue to sponsor this sort of proto-fascist hate-mongering.

PROGRAMMING NOTE:
I’m filling in again for Frank Shiers tonight on 710-KIRO. David Neiwert will be my guest in the 10PM hour.

FINALLY – someone realizing that the only way to stop a bully is to punch him in the mouth! Home Depot just got my business! And by the way, so far 8000 people have signed up to be Faux News Watchers. Murdock will drop these lying asshole cowards like OReally in a hearbeat once he sees it costs him money.

I think you have to give the nod to Lowe’s here between the two. HD looks more like it is just following them. But any money not going to O’Reiley is a dollar well spent.

    Another TJ spews:

    Nindid,

I agree with you. Lowe’s has been much better than Home Depot in recognizing O’Reilly for what he is, though it did resume advertising on his show after pulling its ads earlier this year. We’ll have to keep an eye on both.

    spews:

I don’t know whether it’s the case with BillO, but many programs like to offer a major national advertiser exclusivity within their category. For example, if a show is heavily sponsored by Coca Cola, you wouldn’t see Pepsi ads (and vice versa); you might see a variety of GM-brand car ads, but not Toyota or Mazda.

I bring this up because it might possibly have been the case that Home Depot wasn’t a BillO advertiser at all, if Lowe’s had had such a deal. OTOH, it would seem that HD is at the very least stating that they aren’t going to fill a hole left open to them by the Lowe’s decision.

Then again, maybe I’m all wet with this.

Once the blue-collar white males understand that when corporations mouthing platitudes about diversity, toleration toward women , minorities, and foreigners, it’s not because they have taken up these Liberal causes. It’s so that they can pay everyone (including white males) less than a living wage.

Once they realize this, white, blue-collar workers will become another important part of the Democratic voter coalition.

  11. 14

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Goldy, why don’t you talk on your show tonight about Frank Blethen’s pathological penchant for shilling for every unfair tax scheme that screws the working man that there is!

    From today’s Fishwrapper:

“Private-equity tax measure could cut into state pensions

    “By Alicia Mundy
    “Seattle Times Washington bureau

“WASHINGTON — There’s a little house four blocks from the Canadian border in Blaine, home to Barrie Hull. The 73-year-old former official in the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office gets a $2,200 monthly pension that helps him tend his one-acre garden in peaceful retirement.

“The pension fund that helps finance Hull’s retirement is one example of what’s at stake in an expensive and increasingly volatile battle on Capitol Hill.”

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.c.....ns31m.html

No … what’s at stake is whether Steven Schwarzman gets to keep paying the capital gains rate on his $9,000,000,000.00 annual salary, instead of having to pay ordinary income taxes like people who make $10 an hour.

The fishwrapper’s spin on Democratic attempts to close the tax loophole that lets America’s highest-paid executives get away with paying a fraction of the tax rates that ordinary working Americans have to pay is reminiscent of the “granny” billboards of the 1980s.

Remember the “granny” billboards? Back in the ’80s, when the free-riders were taking another run at our state’s inheritance tax, they posted billboards all over the Seattle area depicting granny sitting in her rocking chair on the curb, with her meager belongings piled on the sidewalk, and a “sold” sign on her little cottage with the white picket fence in the background.

They were trying to get you to believe that granny lost her $29,000 bungalow to the inheritance tax when grandpa died. What a load of horseshit.

The Times’ article about the special income tax rate enjoyed by people who get $750,000,000 monthly salary checks is a load of horseshit, too. I mean, when a guy is making NINE BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR, is it too much to expect him to pay the same tax rate that a garbage truck driver pays? Frank Blethen and his lackey editors apparently think so.

You ought to make fun of him on your show tonight, Goldy.

P.S., I’m going to click on O’Reilly’s ad when I leave this page — again — to make you another nickel. O’Reilly should be happy: I’m NOT boycotting his ad! (But I’m not going to buy his fucking book, either … I’ll just keep clicking on his ad until Goldy has enough money to buy, say, a Michael Moore book, or at least buy himself a beer at DL tomorrow night.)

    dutch spews:

    Good morning,
Thank you very much for your message. The Home Depot has a policy that prohibits the running of its advertising on programs that express strong opinions or political views. Please note that this includes Bill O’Reilly’s program.
    Thank you,
    Ron

    ==================
So how can they “dump” him when they state they never advertised on his show and wouldn’t anyway. Why do you make things up when there is nothing there ? As I mentioned a few months ago, credibility has to be earned…and lost.

    Assie Voice,

What makes you tick? Hatred? Jealousy? Koro Disease?

Why is Fox News successful? Maybe they are not slanted and blatant in their news reportage?

I posted multiple various American TV viewer polls which showed just about every major news org used by Cluelessman, Stupidman, Pellethead, ATJ, Left Foot, Barelli, etc. are politically biased to the left. Sure Fox News is more conservative but the bias values were lower for Fox than the bias values for the major networks and the minor ones too.

Now the New National Moonbat! Progressive Party faithful on all their blogs are gleeful over what? Let’s see what Bill says tonight.

  22. 26

You know what you’re missing from the polling numbers?

MSM reports the truth. Liberals and the truth are inextricably linked. Whereas with conservatives, well, just look aT the news and it’s obvious to everyone that conservatives are corrupt.

Now we can add Sen. Ted Stevens, and Sen. Vitter and the AG to that long, long, long list of corrupt conservatives.

See the difference? We look at William Jefferson and strip him of his committee duties in congress and have contempt for his actions.

On the other hand, conservatives defend every criminal, and corrupt conservative that makes the news.

It’s obvious you guys didn’t learn your lesson in 2006.

You know what that means? You guys will be repeating Contemporary History in Poli Sci: 101.

SURFS UP!! AND IT’S ONE BIG BLUE WAVE.

Rud”e” G as your front runner? Baaa haaa haaa haaa.

Both Hillary and Obama are polling better than Rud”e” nationally. When Al Gore makes his announcement to run later this year, Done! We will win the White House.

Republicans defending 21 of 33 seats in the Senate with 7 of them now polling as “vulnerable.” The Dem’s are close to a filibuster majority and it’s only July of 2007!!! You think it’s going to get “better” for Republicans???????

The Iraq War going to Hell in a handbasket. Early polling has also showed the military vote is no longer firmly in the Republcian control and is now 50/50. Bush’s poor performance as Commander-In-Chief is not sittling well with the military and their families. They WANT change in leadership.

Speaker Pelosi will continue her historic role in 2009.

Ha! Ha! You lose, America wins.

    Yeahhhhh, we’re so racist.

Yaaaaawwwwnnnn. Wake me up when you have new material that is accurate.

Ooh! Ooh! Mistah Kottah, Mistah Kottah! I know, I know!

The polls she cites are of perceptions, not biased coverage. They only tell us what the reputations of the various media outlets are; they don’t measure their actual coverage. In short, they’re irrelevent. And, frankly, after nearly 40 years of conservative whining about “liberal bias” it’s remarkable that the public hasn’t bought into it all that much.
