There’s a paragraph in Blood Meridian that pretty graphically describes someone swinging two babies and smashing them against each other skull to skull.
This gave me a boner when, in a moment of boredom while listening to the Reverend Pastor Arthur R. Pyke, I found this passage while thumbing through the older parts of the Holy Book. I was still young enough to get embarrassed about boners. These days, I take out a full page advert to trumpet the fact.
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.
Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.
Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.

It’s obviously a reference to the Apoditic Law (Exodus 21:24) practices of the day, considering the Palmist was speaking of Babylonian Captivity in the rest of the passage.
I thought you were Jewish? Maybe you just claim that for the penultimate victim status trump card in your social justice crusade.
However, let’s look at it through the lense of a back asswards HA apologist. It’s ok for the Palestinians to fire rockets at the people of Israel in your eyes because they are supposedly occupied and murdered by Israelis.
Apparently the only difference is your political inconsistency. You hate Christians and you hate Jews, even though you are one.

What kind of meds do you take to get some self-loathing. I’m having a problem with that. I try to self-loathe, but it isn’t working for me. The self-help section at Borders doesn’t have a section for self-loathing. It is time for all of us who need to self-loathe to join together and get some representation.

“…because they are supposedly occupied and murdered by Israelis.”
Well, they are. There is no “supposedly” about this.
Trying to put passages of the Bible into “context” is a secular humanist idea and as such has no place in the scholarly study of the Bible. God said it, I believe it, and that’s that.
8
Proud To Be An Assspews:

@7: Secular humanists cannot have ideas. They are the spawn of those who have made a pact with the devil. This explains limousine liberals.
Exactly. Secular humanists want to “analyze” everything, whatever that means. Basically, they want to say that God lied. Which cannot be true, because God, by definition, cannot lie. God said it, I believe it, and that’s that.

Irrelevant. God can do whatever it wants. Assertions as to the truthiness of God cannot be validated since, by acclamation, we cannot “know” God….(you know, that “I AM THAT I AM” stuff).
It follows that ascribing anything you damnned well please to god is perfectly ok.

Brown, a socially moderate Republican in an age where the national party is nearly unified on opposition to abortion rights and same-sex marriage, said states should be allowed to make their own decisions on marriage rights. He said while he is pro-choice, he is against partial- birth abortions, federal funding of abortions and believes in strong parental consent notification laws.
“I feel this issue is best handled between a woman and her doctor and her family,” he said.
The big takeaway is that a moderate Republican who campaigns hard can win an election. We already knew that.
I’m not sure what the takeaway for this weeks bible study is.

Let’s put this whole discussion in the context of an even more unpopular concept—JUDGMENT.
Atheist Progressives say there is no God and certainly no Judgment.
Some Conservatives will preach Judgment and somehow think their conduct is good enough to get by.
Neither Works–
Many of you pride yourselves as deep-thinkers.
Think about this…
What is the point of life without a Judge?
Don’t we need a Judge and Judgment Day to really have any Hope??
Without belief in God’s Judgment, what is to keep us from utter despair?
I don’t believe you can avoid Judgment Day and certainly none of us can stand up to Judgment Day. Jesus judges our heart in context with what we know. Judgment is proportional to what you know. You can deny it….but you cannot avoid it. Christ is our ONLY way out of the rath of God’s Judgment. Reject Christ means to reject God….as Christ took our place in God’s Judgment. The good news is that by turning to Christ, you’ve already had Judgment Day as it happened…on the Cross.
One of my favorite Bible verses are found in
John 12:37-51:
The Jews Continue in Their Unbelief
37Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. 38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:
“Lord, who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”[g]
39For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40″He has blinded their eyes
and deadened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”[h] 41Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.
42Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.
44Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47″As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. 49For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. 50I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”
I encourage all to study this and consider especially V.44 and what follows as Jesus CRIES out…
And he CRIED out because He is our only way out.
Use your deep-thinking skills and put away your harshness and anger.
If you want any meaning in your life, there must be a Judge and Judgment…otherwise, why does it matter?

A. In all my distress and persecution
I turn my eyes to the heavens
and confidently await as judge the very One
who has already stood trial in my place before God
and so has removed the whole curse from me.^1
All his enemies and mine
he will condemn to everlasting punishment:
but me and all his chosen ones
he will take along with him
into the joy and the glory of heaven.^2
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

It slices the Mercer Slough Park wetland right in two.
But hey, what the hell, ruining a pristine nature preserve and popular recreation area is a small price to pay for keeping Kemper Freeman Jr. happy.
Actually I care more about the religious nuts in this country because this is my country and they influence my life a lot more than the religious nuts in other countries. I have more power over the fools here than the fools over there. Almost all of the religious zealots (or at lease the religious zealots with power) in the US are Christians. I do not know of any religious zealots in this country who are powerful (ie influence public policy) and are not Christian, with the exception of the Moonies and Scientologists.
Plus I was raised a Christian (not anymore). The only people who have ever harassed me have been Christians. The only people who have banned books in the communities I have lived in were Christian. The only people who ever told me I was going to Hell were Christian.
So, highlighting the hypocrisy and grotesque nature of the “Bible” is more important to me than the “Koran”.

Sounds like a free way to live.. Especially from fear. Doesn’t mean there’s there’s no consequences for one’s decisions, no escape from responsibility.
But if you die and that’s it, what are the real consequences?? I agree some folks have used Judgment to promote fear. However, when you Study and submit to the Gospel, you realize Faith is the only real freedom.
Is No God & No Judgment really a “free” way to live? What does “free” really mean in your context? We all have a built-in conscience that is at it’s core a knowledge of God.
Some choose to suppress it. That doesn’t mean you will escape Judgment though.
None of us can ever do enough to earn our way into Heaven. That is why God sent his Son to live among us and die on the cross. Christ took our place in God’s Judgment. That is freedom friend.

I understand that there are some Christians who think that, in the long run, everyone would be better off if they learned how to fish (actually, as an angler, I believe that, but that is beside the point). The problem is that we really don’t have the long run in which to address social inequities. We only have the now. And, for better or worse, government has the resources, if we permit it, to jump in and take care of things in the short run. I really don’t like to watch children starve while we wait for some sort of sea change in human beings deciding that they want to take care of each other when government can jump in now and, however inefficiently, do the job.

It’s difficult to get too worked up over Goldy and his Atheist Progressive ilk pulling Scripture out of context and bastardizing it…or even suggesting that we are meant to totally understand all Scripture.
All Goldy is doing is digging stuff up that was discussed on the Daily Kos.
Goldy fears an indepth discussion of his own lack of Faith….or addressing this–
WHY DOES ANYTHING MATTER IF THERE IS NO JUDGE AND NO JUDGMENT?
It’s a great question that deep-thinkers have pondered since Adam & Eve.
Goldy at al can deny Judgment, but they cannot avoid it.
The ONLY WAY to the Father is thru Christ the Son. That’s why is John 12:44, Jesus CRIED OUT. He didn’t simply speak. WHY? Because Christ was to take our place in God’s Judgment. If we reject Christ, we reject God.
If you turn to Christ, you have already had your Judgment Day…it happened on the Cross.
No one escapes Judgment.
May feel Liberating to say their is no Judgment…but you cannot avoid it.
Oh and Goldy…where did you conscience come from?? Random atoms banging around in your head??

God to Mr. Cspews:
Mr. Cynical
You fail to respond to Me.
Do not take My Name in vain.
What a small God I would be if I insisted that you call me by My “real” name. As I told Moses, “I am that I am.” I am called by many names but have no name other than the Names you call me by.
Not all people hear me in the same way. But the law is My voice. The make as law for you, I make for you to give to others as a gift. To do else is to take MY name in vain.
You say you have read My word. but perhaps you read only a corrupted text. Here are My words again, in American … no need for translation into your tongue.
First, you shall not make wrongful use of My name, for the I will not acquit anyone who misuses My name for ends not of My law. Do not take My Name in vain.
Second, My law is the only Name you need. Show love to the thousandth generation of those who love Me and keep My commandments. strong> To do else is to take My Name in vain.
Third Do not have any other gods before me. I say “before” because the only worship I need is your love for each other. That is My law. My law is as simple as this: do unto others as you would have them to do unto you. To do else is to take My name in vain.
This simple law has many forms:
Fourth, Ninth Do not worship a statue or a name but honor your father and your mother, your teachers and benefactors. They do my will. To do else is to take my name in vain.
Fifth, do not murder. To do else is to take MY name in vain.
Sixth, do not not steal what belongs to others,To do else is to take MY name in vain.
Seventh Do not steal the love of those in love with each other or trespass between the commitments of those who have committed to each other. To do else is to take My Name in vain,
Eighth Do not bear false witness against your neighbor. To do else is to take MY name in vain.
Ninth, Preserve and better My creation. For six days you shall labor and do all your work. To waste what I made is to take My Name in vain.
Tenth On the seventh day, My Sabbath, I have told one of My chosen people, the Jews, not do any work nor impose work on their children, their employees or slaves, their livestock, or the alien resident in their towns. This is mM gift to the Jews, it is a gift you should treasure. To do else is to take My name in vain.
Nor have I given special access to some who claim to know My Name. That is your choice, not Mine. Do not call unto Me through the glare of your hatred of your fellows. To do else is to take MY name in vain.
Beware .. some of what is written IS not of My law:
I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,

Patty Wagon spews:

Trying to put passages of the Bible into “context” is a secular humanist idea and as such has no place in the scholarly study of the Bible. God said it, I believe it, and that’s that.

I encourage all to study this and consider especially V.44 and what follows as Jesus CRIES out…
And he CRIED out because He is our only way out.
Use your deep-thinking skills and put away your harshness and anger.
If you want any meaning in your life, there must be a Judge and Judgment…otherwise, why does it matter?

I do not know of any religious zealots in this country who are powerful (ie influence public policy) and are not Christian, with the exception of the Moonies and Scientologists.
Plus I was raised a Christian (not anymore). The only people who have ever harassed me have been Christians. The only people who have banned books in the communities I have lived in were Christian. The only people who ever told me I was going to Hell were Christian.

Some choose to suppress it. That doesn’t mean you will escape Judgment though.
None of us can ever do enough to earn our way into Heaven. That is why God sent his Son to live among us and die on the cross. Christ took our place in God’s Judgment. That is freedom friend.

They hate free markets because they are unable to compete in them as adults, so they’d rather destroy them.
They hate any philosophy which requires accountability of any kind.

If I were to sum up my general location in the political spectrum I’d have to to resort to Thomas Paine. “Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.” We need government, but we don’t have to like it.

Compassion can take the form of teaching to fish, rather than giving someone a fish.
To condemn all Republicans because you don’t agree with their method of bringing out the best in this country and it’s people is ignorant.
As ignorant as I was at 64 in denigrating the honest intent of those with whom I disagree. Mea Culpa.
Most conservatives I know honestly believe the policies they endorse are compassionate in result and in the end. They honestly believe that government is generally a poor solution to social problems. They aren’t out to ruin lives but to better them. I get that liberals disagree with this, but I can disagree with the liberal point of view while recognizing good intent.

In the meantime, people are starving. Wars rage, rain forests are razed, and we have orphans.

Can you sue churches for acts of god? They do claim to represent him.

This Psalm is about the Babylonian Capitivity. The Psalmist is writing about becoming a slave in Babylon. Sayong it is better to be dead than forced to serve a pagan king in a foreign land. It in no way means for you to kill your children. Sorry Planned Parenthood.

All Proud Loser can do is name-call…meaning he has lost an valid arguments.

Only Liberals are Christians and all Christians are Liberal in his alleged mind.
Hard to believe this KLOWN’s claim that his dad was a Lutheran Minister, isn’t it?
Sigh…he must of been sleeping during Daddy’s messages about Judgment and only listened to the Social Gospel which has been bastardized by Proud Leftist to mean it’s the Guv’mints job to take care of everyone…not PL’s!
Thanks for being honest finally.
BTW,,I have lots of Liberal Christian Friends and Conservative Christian Friends.
You might try a little diversity and get out of the HA cluster sometime.
It’s a great world with varying opinions.
Where is your tolerance PL??

So true…however, it doesn’t say it’s the governments job, does it?
The Bible leans toward less intrusive government and more personal responsibility.
Therein lies a difference of opinion.
Comprende?

So true…
God to Mr. C spews:
Mr.
