So, this a.m. I’m cruising through broadcast television, (who can afford cable?) when I come across three, count em’, three white, protestant, huckster preachers preaching the same old stuff. And I ask myself “Is this the 1950’s? Where’s the rabbi? Where’s the shaman? Where’s the Satanist? Where’s the imam?” And then I remember these are public airwaves and only one religion owns the public airwaves. So, in protest, I’ll fuck who I want. And this silly book can go fuck itself.
Of course all these things were cool before the ten commandments and the laws of Moses. Don’t forget Abraham. These admonitions are taken out of the context that it’s the Egyptians and Canaanites doing these things. If these books were authored or influenced by the Babylonians while they were up north in slavery.
The question should be is there any evidence that the Egyptians and Canaanites did these practices? There is some evidence of these things in Egyptian history but it appears to be the elites doing it. There are certainly Greek mythology with these elements, but even so it’s clear such things were frowned upon. There is some evidence that the Greeks practiced incest to keep property in the family.
So frankly all this maybe more political put down of people who aren’t like us or members of our tribe. Without the Greek ideas of hubris, and the acknowledgment that things do happen. Tragic things like the tragedy of Oepidus. The plays being more useful to educate the masses than this dry passage which surely must have come from an ancient ancestor of Nancy Reagan with a just say no message.
We are of course celebrating this High Sunday with bucking broncos and fighting panthers. Our true national religion.

I don’t really care too much either way, but no need to feel sorry for poor ‘ol “soccer”. UEFA Champions League Finals will produce close to double the viewership of the Superbowl. This at the end of a series of matches nearly every one of which surpasses the Superbowl viewership.
The NFL can only dream of ever being that big.
It’s so wicked that, as with support of Bernie Sanders, there’s a special place in hell for it.
