Friday Open Thread

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 6/13/25, 8:18 am

I spent 20 minutes looking for my keys instead of writing this. But I did want to remind everyone that the No Kings rally and march is tomorrow. Cal Anderson and Red Square. Or tons of other locations.

And while we’re talking about protest, I haven’t had a chance to read Range Media’s recent coverage of the anti-ICE protests in Spokane yet, but it looks compelling.

Still no answer from Welfare Queen YLB about Padilla’s Senate logo on his polo shirt in the context of why that should have been a defense when Padilla was wearing a jacket over his shirt.

Oh, and why Padilla purposefully left off his security pin as part of his silly stunt.

CBS News reporter points out that Padilla was already being forced out by security after charging the state before he finally identified himself to those within earshot.

    CBS News
    @CBSNews

CBS News’ Carter Evans was in the room for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference when Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) was forcibly removed while trying to ask a question.

Noem was describing what she called the “burdensome leadership” of California’s governor and the mayor of Los Angeles, when Padilla interrupted and attempted to ask a question before being pushed from the room.

“This all happened very, very quickly,” Evans describes. “It was only then, after he was being dragged out of the room that he identified himself as a U.S. senator.”
    2:35 PM · Jun 12, 2025

He also pointed out that when Padilla decided to give his one-sided story to the press afterward, the chickenshit senator from California refused to take any questions. Fucking pussy hypocrite.

This is a bad week for Democrats. Yesterday a judge increased Michael Avenatti’s prison sentence by one additional year.

That’s one more year Democrats will have to wait before making him their DNC nominee for president.

Biggest losers: CNN and MSNBC, each of which were falling over themselves to bankroll the 2020 candidacy Avenatti once explored.

Just like last time, OPEC is playing Donnie with production targets.

On January 24th 2025 the US had 482 active oil extraction rigs. This week the US has 482 active oil and gas extraction rigs.

Just for fun and the ‘Biden killed off American Oil Crowd, at the Pandemic Start of Joe Biden’s Administration there were 275. By the end of 2021 there were 480. In his last full week there were 478.

Opec announced a third increase in output for the year last week. Donnie is still the only President to oversee a net loss of rigs in a term and he’s well on hos way to going it twice. Something about energy independence and Republican Rhetoric goes in this sentence.

Yesterday for the first time Mamdani led Cuomo in a released non-internal poll. Today the two progressive candidates Mamdani and Lander are appearing together to urge rank choice voting each other 1 and 2 meaning without winning an outright majority first count, not likely with 11 challengers, Cuomo’s path to taking on Eric ‘independent Democrat’ Adams becomes slim.

Adams is generally expected to get crushed due to his open corruption and MAGA leanings.

Best moment of the final debate last night was Cuomo making the case Mamdani’s lack of experience never having negotiated with police unions, dealt with Albany makes Cuomo the best choice.

Kennedy fired all 17 members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s key vaccine advisory committee. He has since named eight replacements, at least two of whom are outspoken vaccine skeptics…

More recently, he claimed that a Texas child who died of measles had not actually succumbed to the disease. Another pick is Vicky Pebsworth, who blames vaccines for causing her son’s autism. She has praised discredited former physician Andrew Wakefield, whose fraudulent research falsely linked vaccines to autism, and represented organizations that question vaccine safety.

General Motors Co. ended its robotaxi development arm, Cruise, after it continually lost money and was involved in a major 2023 crash in which a pedestrian was struck and dragged for 20 feet. Amazon’s Zoox issued a voluntary recall and paused testing earlier this year after one of its autonomous vehicles was involved in a crash in Las Vegas. The robotaxi was unoccupied at the time. Google’s Waymo also recalled some of its vehicles at the end of last year to update software after some of its vehicles were involved in minor collisions.

A new study finds that patients hospitalized for Covid were less likely to suffer severe kidney damage if they were vaccinated.

And that’s pretty much all the vaccine does. It reduces the severity of symptoms, sometimes.

It won’t keep you from catching The Wuhan.

It won’t keep you from giving it to your family.

It won’t slow the spread through your community.

All those things they said it would do, it doesn’t.

Most people benefit little to none from the vaccine, and then there are the risks, which we still are learning about. We know enough to no longer vaccinate young people or pregnant women, because they’re better off on their own, taking their chances.

However, if you are old, and weak, and infirm, and with a shitload of pre-existing conditions — meaning if you are like Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit — then yes, the vaccine might keep you from developing even worse illness. Or maybe from dying.

But that does not justify forcing 330 million people to be jabbed 4 or 5 times over a one-year period. Because 329.8 million of them won’t materially be helped.

That’s what you meant to convey when posting about the vaccine’s benefits, isn’t it, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit?

    54,
    Yes. That’s quite correct.

Stop lights flashing. Stop sign extended. Never even slowed down.

It’s incapable of suggestion that the optical sensors couldn’t resolve the images correctly. If Tesla FSD software was anywhere near as capable as Elmo claims it would recognize a school bus, a school bus stop sign, and a school bus flashing stop lights. If it can’t recognize those plainly obvious and very well known signals then it can’t be operated autonomously in normal conditions anywhere.

There will be piles of little crippled and dead bodies.

If the tesla RoboDeathCab has to chose between Suszie and Tiffiany and both have the Pedestrian Protection Plan, the optional Surge Pricing Escalation Clause ™ are a perfect fit. In the milliseconds before impact The RoboDeathCab will contact the home office and start a bidding war between the two plans. The plan who out bids the other, in jumps of $1 K, has their child live, the cheapskate has their child run over. It’s a shame Suzie’s parents only put $50K in bond, while Tiffany’s parents loved her and loaded it with $75 K. For $51 K, Tiffany was unscathed while Suzie was roadkill. It’s quite the profit generator for Tesla.

What if Greta Thunberg is actually Mossad. What if she was part of the planning for years. What if her boat trip was a distraction? What if she visited Israel for some last minute in person strategy? We will never know. This shit runs deep.

    Rightwing paranoia sure does.

So do large chunks of ice floating in oceans.
