Going to be harder to keep a lid on Presidential health in this current media age. Wonder if any papers speculated on FDR’s health in that last year? Although the War was on, but we still held the elections as scheduled, even the mid-terms in 42, but results could have been better if Operation Torch had happened a week earlier, but also could have been worse. We didn’t have superiority over the U-Boats, yet.
Great reason for Amtrak’s Wolverine to be disrupted, removal of a few coaling towers that haven’t coaled a steam locomotive since 1953,. They were expensive to build, and apparently expensive to demolish, but have to come down soon. As mentioned in the comments section, preservationists had decades to save them. At least it was for coal and not Bunker Oil as in the case of a steam legacy in Skykomish.
