Low water levels in Gatineau Lake prompted Maersk to switch traffic to the Panama Canal Railway, currently operated by Canadian-American railroad CPKC. Traffic had been picking up before this, though, just on time saving. Although the Panama Canal Authority and the PCR better watch out, Mexico has been upgrading a railroad across the Isthmus as another land bridge shortcut, It’s another one of AMLO’s rushed and controversial legacy projects, like Tren Maya.
https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/maersk-shifts-some-container-traffic-to-panama-canal-railway-due-to-low-water-levels/
One controversy Tren Maya had on the Yucatán is that while the Mexico City Metro worked around Aztec ruins and even incorporated them into stations, construction of Tren Maya demolished some Mayan ruins.

Trump’s appeal is just a delay tactic. And the corrupt SCOTUS denial of immediate consideration was limited to granting that delay.
Don’t be fooled by dipshit media. They are playing people for attention. The Circuit will smash the motion quickly. SCOTUS will too. But being thoroughly corrupted, it must be assumed that wealthy Republicans who directly control a few members of the Court will instruct them to delay as much as possible before rendering.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
By age 3, Trump was earning $200,000 a year in today’s dollars from his father’s empire. He was a millionaire by age 8. By the time he was 17, his father had given him part ownership of a 52-unit apartment building. Soon after Trump graduated from college, he was receiving the equivalent of $1 million a year from his father.
Trust fund trolls can certainly relate.
I certainly don’t begrudge the Trump family their enormous wealth. But I do dispute their bullshit self-mythologizing. These people are not self-made. They do not work hard. They are not more disciplined or determined. They do not practice better habits. They are not more self reliant or more resilient. They are not smarter, more creative, or more persuasive.
We should not indulge any of them in their self-deluded fantasies. And we certainly should not labor to furnish them with an economy, a legal system, and a tax system that props up and supports those delusions merely for the sake of their inflated egos and sense of their own importance.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
I also want to burst another possible delusion about Trump, one that he can’t admit to, but one that is probably shared throughout the Trump family and Trump organization.
Some of the media reporting and analysis of the Trump “financial empire”, and even some admiring popular accounts of it, broadly imply that his wealth has arisen from an incredibly complex and very precisely tuned arrangement of “deals” and “assets”.
That’s also bullshit.
Pretty much all Trump wealth and capital formation comes from the same thing. And it’s easiest and most precise to describe it as nothing more than grubby check kiting.
In a common check kiting scheme a low life fraudster issues checks against accounts with insufficient funds in order to cover previously issued checks against different accounts also with insufficient funds, and so on for as long as they can. At each step in the scheme the amount issued is larger than the previous bad check, and the low life pockets the difference.
Trump relies on real estate loans instead of bank checks. But the principle is precisely the same. At each transaction the Trump family and Trump org massively overstate the value of real estate assets to secure new loans in ever increasing amounts. A portion of each new, larger loan is used to settle a previous loan. And the rest goes to the family.
There’s nothing sophisticated about it. And it’s clearly fraud. Low life fraud at that.

“Cuellar said in a statement Saturday that Border Patrol officers learned around 9 p.m. Friday that six migrants were in distress as they tried to cross the river separating the U.S. and Mexico near Eagle Pass’ Shelby Park. Since early in the week, Texas officials, under orders from Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, have prevented federal officials from entering a stretch of border within the 47-acre city park.
“Upon hearing about the migrants, Border Patrol attempted to contact Texas authorities, including the Texas Military Department, National Guard and Department of Public Safety, but were unsuccessful, Cuellar, a moderate Democrat whose district is southeast of the park, … posted to the social media site X. Border Patrol officers then tried to go to Shelby Park, but Texas Military Department personnel at a park gate wouldn’t let federal agents through, Cuellar said.”

Normally tgey replace trolleys with hybrids on the weekend, construction is the excuse, but tge normal deposit is a $1000, probably the ot for IBEW represented linemen who have to shut it down. It’s not a centrally controlled button, individual substations have to be turned off, and running jumps installed on individual segments. Wouldn’t be surprised if some of the linemen are multi-generational at Metro going back to the street railway.
By the way, most buses in London are operated by private concerns, but unlike rest of England better regulated.
One of the Hybrids I ride was built by a manufacturer no longer in the US market, but still runs well.

26)He should go tell the mechanics at Atlantic Base they are working on death traps, but make funeral arrangements first. As I said, probably some electricians and mechanics whose families predate Metro and Seattle Transit. They know what they are doing. He probably would be happy to hear that San Francisco is reconsidering battery buses, they were going for a big order that threw in replacements for the trolleybuses too. Seems the trolleybuses, despite their unsightly wire intersections, are going to be replaced by more trolleybuses. Unlike Metro, MUNI could repurpose the substations, perhaps restoring streetcar lines as the trolleybus and MuniMetro run 600v being an old system, unlike Seattle with trolleybus at 600v, and rail at 759vdc/1500vdc.
Vancouver tested a Solaris trolleybus from Poland recently, and I was commenting about it seeming to be a one stop North American tour on. a trolleybus fans Facebook group. Was told, people from Metro and Muni were observing. I just think no demo for a trolleybus is complete here without a Seattle Torture Test, Queen Anne Ave north of Roy St. In the mid 30s a trolleybus was tested against a Counterbalance Car, and won, in 1970, a 30 year old trolley vs a Diesel, Trolley won. Just we haven’t tested a 100% low floor one before, even the diesel ones are rare on this continent.
Meanwhile, SF continues testing battery buses, looks like they are doing what Seattle Transit did for a big order to replace inherited motor buses from Seattle Municipal Railway and wartime acquisitions (couldn’t be picky, they got some that didn’t work out well, but were available) in the 50s. Bought 5 each from three manufacturers, best got an order for 100, kept tge 5 from the second best, sold off the 5 from Mack that didn’t work out.
Up here tge transit agency to really watch out for is the former Twin Transit, looks like they will be using battery buses in Centralia and Chehalis and Hydrogen for longer range routes. Tge fueling station will be public, as it will be a strategically positioned if H2 vehicles do catch on. I believe CT is going to do the same, they have demos on order for both. Makes sense, both CT garages are in the Everett area, and depending on the type of charger they use, will use up a lot of juice getting to Stanwood and Arlington. I would prefer a mix of opportunity and depot charging.
EvergreenRailfan spews:
29)On tge Bus fan’s Facebook groups I’m on, not everyone is a fan of all battery buses. We got a nickname for ones from BYD of China, Build Your Disasters. Unfortunately they got the best bid for Sound Transit’s Stride BRT route on SR522. Unfortunately, only two manufacturers for battery articulateds. Only one if the customer wants a Diesel or a Hybrid. 40ft buses, manufacturers come and go.

Also, wonder how many years the NASA Traitor will get, as she ended up back in the US without her diplomatic immunity. Also, wonder if President Gore gets re-elected. He beat Bush Sr, who had only been President Wilson’s VP because he backed her after her first VP Primaried her when she came out.
Opening reel from the Premier episode of the season, which sets up the time jump between seasons. Interesting where it announces JFK Jr running for Senate. It’s not long after he died in real life. Some fans pointed out possibly Moynihan’s seat, as his uncle is probably retired from politics by now, having beat Nixon in 72 and lost to Reagan in 76. But the effort to oust Magill began months before the Hamas attack, according to public letters and people familiar with the fight over Israel and Palestine at Penn. As early as August, Magill had drawn the ire of pro-Israel lobbying groups, nonprofits, and university donors after rebuffing their efforts to cancel a literary festival on campus called Palestine Writes.

At his raving post trial news conference the Republican nominee was asked by a reporter if he agreed with his attorneys arguing a motion for a grant of immunity before the DC Circuit, that as President he should be legally immune from any criminal prosecution if he were to order Seal Team Six to assasinate a political opponent.
Trump replied that he agreed with his lawyers, saying,
“If a President of the United States does not have immunity he’ll be totally ineffective”.
The Republican nominee for president believes that the effectiveness of a political leader depends in part on his freedom to order the assasination of his political opposition.
What the fuck do you call that if not fascism?
This is beyond debate, people. It is perfecty reasonable to label this candidate and the people who are supporting him fascists. Because that’s what they are. They are saying so. Right out loud in front of cameras and everything. It doesn’t need any interpretation or teasing apart of subtle nuance. Trump says he believes that a political leader like a president must enjoy freedom from consequence for ordering the assasination of his political rivals. He says it. And his supporters believe it.
Nobody owes them any duty of “politeness” to avoid mentioning that fact. Quite the contrary. It should be the first thing any truly loyal American thinks of the instant they encounter anyone identifying themselves as Republican.
Republican = fascist
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
I guess I also want to add that this fact about Republicans now openly advocating for empowering a president with the authority to order the assasination of political opponents should also be front of mind every single time anyone encounters yet another think-piece lamenting polarization or any lack of unity in American politics.
That’s sort of a natural consequence whenever one of the two major political parties representing a giant chunk of the voters proudly and unabashedly announces to the world that they’ve gone fascist.
When every other person riding the train moves to the opposite end of the car when some geezer shits himself that is not “polarization”.

Well, as I’ve said before, we should not underestimate the Republican capacity for bullshit.
But as I’ve also pointed out, because modern “conservative” political energy (read “fascist”) has become dependent upon an ever expanding Overton Window, in order for each subsequent bullshit manufactured scandal to gain any traction requires that it be incrementally more extreme and incrementally more fantastic than the last. And the adoption of whatever that latest bullshit happens to be comes with real consequences.
This process is and has been ongoing for years now. And we’ve all witnessed the very obvious effect that it has had upon the profoundly stupid trust fund troll in that time.
A decade ago it required these dullards to entertain the suspicion that Hawaii is maybe not completely “American”.

Republicans have shit their pants. What’s next? I dunno. They begin to eat it?
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
Here’s something to think about.
Many Democrats, liberals, and progressives are worried about violence affecting the election this November. Maybe you are too. Maybe you’ve been reading some of the alarming calls for just that kind of violence targeting voting places or ballot counting facilities being promoted and encouraged by Republican politicians from the lowliest of local county commissioners to the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee himself. Maybe you’ve seen some of the reports measuring an exponential explosion of just these kinds of threats coming almost exclusively from the far right and Republicans in recent months. Maybe you’ve also seen that these all go way beyond generalized, vague boasts and ego-threats to include lots of organizing and planning to support the threatened violence.
So one question you might consider asking in light of all that is this: why don’t you have any confidence that police will intervene to prevent all of that?
Oh. That. Right.
So maybe now that you understand that Republicans are fascists, that a whole lot of them, realizing that they can’t possibly win any other way, are planning to carry out violence this November to disrupt the election, and that most cops are Republicans, you might be ready to finally consider fewer police.
More police do not make us more safe.
More police make us less safe.
And we may even learn to our regret that relying on more police could cost us our democracy.

This is so interesting…
Six students sued Harvard on Wednesday, claiming that the renowned university had become a “bastion of rampant anti-Jewish hatred and harassment” that was exacerbated by the Hamas attack on Israel last October.
The case points to a screening at Harvard Divinity School last September of the film “Israelism,” which argues that American Jews raise their children with pro-Israel indoctrination. The screening caused Mr. Kestenbaum to suffer “anxiety and gross discomfort,” the complaint said.
“Antisemitic tropes displayed during that screening drew applause rather than denunciation,” the lawsuit said.
The students in the suit demand the removal of some professors who participated in the instances they list and seek unspecified compensation.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/11/us/harvard-antisemitism-lawsuit.html
Crybabies… I’ve watched the film.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9636732/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_6_nm_2_q_israelism
The first thing I noticed about this article is that the “offensive” film was screened by Harvard’s Divinity School.. Uhhh.. folks that’s a Christian institution. Is there not one prof on the faculty that is Christian Zionist, who believes Jeebus doesn’t return until the world’s Jews go “home” to Israel? Believe it or not, some of the first Zionists were NOT Jews.. They were Christians. And ardent proponents for a Jewish homeland in what is now Israel.
The film is produced by Jews and it features Jewish-Americans who’ve shrugged off the deep pro-Israel indoctrination. The utter shameless distortion of history that is, let’s face it if we’re honest, genocidal in nature… The indoctrinators tell Jewish children that the land was barren before the Zionists. Only a few Arabs lived there and today Palestinians are just people who hate and want to kill Jews.
One pro-Israel advocate featured claims there is NO DIFFERENCE between Judaism and Israel. To question the policies of the Israeli government is to flirt with antisemitism.
Many scenes of the brutality of the occupation and the settlements.. If you love fucking walls, the West Bank is for you. Throw in checkpoints and soldier patrols, arbitrary arrest and detainment – hey good times for the occupied.
I wished the film-makers profiled Gaza and talked to Israeli Palestinians but maybe that’s saved for another film. Hard to believe a Gaza film will ever see the light of day but still..
The one named plaintiff in the lawsuit is clearly a brainwashed American Jew whose head exploded when the film induced intense cognitive dissonance.
It’s mind-blowing the fact that most Jewish Israelis never have any interactions with a Palestinian not even one who is a citizen. But many Jewish Israeli critics like Gideon Levy say this. And this makes it clear that Israel is a heavily segregated society. The closest many Israeli Jews come to dealing with Palestinians is brutalizing those under occupation.

Trump lawyer representing him in federal court in NY quit today.
This comes right on the heels of Judge Kaplan issuing notice and orders last night regarding his intentions to enforce his estoppel order forbidding defendant Trump from making any statements from the witness stand denying that he raped E. Jean Carrol in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room thirty years ago.
Trump is scheduled to take the stand tomorrow in his defense as part of the damages trial following a jury finding last May that Trump had raped Ms. Carrol. And there had been considerable speculation both that Trump might willfully defy the judge’s order and that the judge was preparing to levy sanctions against both the defendant and his lawyer, Tacopina.
Trump has fought to avoid and delay these trial proceedings for years, originally filing a prolonged suit arguing that as President he was immune from civil suit for any defamatory statements he might make. Over the years he has lost every time which finally resulted in the jury verdict against him last May. Similary Trump has been involved in a series of motions and complaints seeking to delay this and other impending trials. Most recently he had argued that the death of his current mother in law should result in a new delay. It is expected that Trump will immediately seek trial delay following the dismissal of his attorney. Kaplan has thus far been fairly unswayed in his intentions to start trial tomorrow.
Tacopina has also withdrawn as Trump’s counsel in his appeal of his NY state conviction for criminal fraud.

If I were anyone sincerely dedicated, in an EEN-DEE-PEN-DUNCE sort of way, to the proposition that the United States should largely withdraw from global security agreements with other sovereign nations, I think I’d probably start by carefully examing the most powerful influences in favor of those kinds of agreements, and what gives rise to those influences in the first place.
We practice a particularly Darwinistic form of free market capitalism in the United States. We welcome and even encourage tremendous economic inequality, justified presumably on the idea that this inequality gives r ise tolots more economic growth. We fuck over workers like crazy. We essentially make it legal in a de facto sense for employers to openly steal from workers to improve their bottom lines. We only reluctantly enforce environmental and safety standards (Boeing!). We grant privilileged position in the tax code, the civil code, and the criminal code to the formation of capital. We constantly denegrate words and ideas associated with empowering individual workers and tax payers like “socialism”, “organizers”, and “activists”. We flood our communities with hyper aggressive police strangely oriented with a bias toward vigorous selective enforcement of petty common laws on the poorest citizens. And we constantly reinforce laughably ingrained myths about “economic forces” against which we are “powerless”.
All that and more gives particular rise to our determination to “keep the world safe”. But is that safe for “democracy”?
Or is it perhaps more accurate that what we are determined to do is keep the world safe for global trade and the subjugation of workers through global competition among workers?
I guess I tend to think that if I were one of these people eager to see the United States begin to withdraw from this global role I’d begin by examining prosperous, developed, post-industrial nations that have already managed to do so to some extent. And then I’d be studying their political and economic systems that make this possible. They are out there. They do not operate empires. Their citizens are all far better educated, enjoy better pay, better benefits, better public services, less crime, longer life spans, less chronic illness, and are empirically happier people.
Maybe that’s why the JBS is dead.
Because they were all too stupid to figure out that their isolationist dreams were both politically and economically incompatible with their preferences for unregulated capitalism.

More Nikki Haley supporters would vote for Biden over Trump in November, Iowa Poll finds
Just 23% of Nikki Haley supporters say they would vote for Donald Trump in a rematch with Joe Biden, a new Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows right before the Iowa Caucuses
Roger Rabbit spews:
@140 I hate to break this to you, but you’re not one of the leaders, you’re one of the led.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
There is a good example available right now of how polling results can be seized upon by the media to create potentially very erroneous hopes and expectations.
Des Moines Register/NBC has published the latest Selzer poll. Ann Selzer is a high quality pollster who specializes in Iowa. NBC gives their spin. The Hill reports on that reporting and adds some more spin. Here is the kicker: The Hill headline declares
Almost half of Haley supporters say they would vote for Biden over Trump: Iowa poll
Big news, right? Lots of progressives have run with it since yesterday, leveraging this analysis to explain how some fabled Republican “silent majority” will flip to Biden when Trump wins the nom.
The Hill reports that the MOE for the Selzer poll is +/-3.7
All the availabel polling, including this one, indicates Trump is way out in the lead. So the majority of the poll respondants are Trump voters, not Haley voters. And so there’s a problem here. Because +/- 3.7 is also the MOE for the whole survey population. But in statistics the smaller the sample the large ther MOE. So how can the sample of Haley respondants, which is much smaller than the whole, have the same MOE?
It doesn’t. Here’s the poll:
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24360792-iowa-poll-trump-vote
The published results of the poll show the MOE and the sample.
And it shows the population size of Haley supporters in the overall sample at n=140. Big difference. Yields an MOE of +/-8.3 (not 3.7)
But it also does not show a breakout of Haley supporters in the crosstabs. So how the fuck does The Hill reach it’s conclusion that “almost half of Haley supporters say they would vote for Biden over Trump”? That comes from NBC.
In NBC’s reporting on the Selzer poll they include their own analysis of the data showing how “half of Haley’s supporters identify as either independents (39%) or Democrats (11%) – significantly different from the polls overall makeup, which stands at 69% #Republicans, 23% #independents, and 5% #Democrats among likely #GOP caucusgoers.”
See what they did there?
It’s hardly surprising that if almost half of Haley’s Iowa support comes from #notRepublicans, then “almost half of Haley’s Iowa supporters” don’t plan to vote for Trump in November. Dog bites man. Not man bites dog.
There’s really nothing wrong with this poll. It just does not say what The Hill claims it says. And if you were a Biden supporter, or God forbid a Biden campaign strategist, and you make decisions based upon what this bullshit from The Hill is telling you, you would be fucking up big time. I pray you do not.
Don’t think for one instant that huge numbers of Republican voters are going to flock to President Biden once Trump wins the Republican nomination. THEY WILL NOT. They are Republican voters. They are going to do exactly what you should expect Republican voters to do in any election. Despite the fact that their nominee is a convicted criminal, rapist, twice impeached, fascist failure, they are going to vote for him because he’s got a fucking (R) after his name.
And not for nothing, also because fucking shit stain lazy access journalists from media orgs like The Hill are essentially giving them permission to do so. “Somebody else”, some other mythological moderate Republican, can always be counted on to save America. Leaving them perfectly free to just go ahead and let their racist grievances do all their talking for them.
Not all polls are terrible, although some certainly are.
But most poll media analysis is just pure, refined, weaponized garbage.

Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
Following up a bit to 143 with another “warning” of sorts.
I expect President Biden to win in November. But I also expect the results to be quite close, especially in the few swing state contests that actually count.
When President Biden wins we aren’t going to know right away why he won. But that won’t stop the media from attempting to explain it somehow. We, and they, won’t really know the answer to that question until a few months after the election when voter file data becomes available showing better information about differentials in turnout to accompany differentials in voter preference. But ignorance hates a vacuum. And so in an time honored effort to look “savvy” media analysts will simply engage in speculation informed mostly by other speculation, and maybe some completely annecdotal reporting from a coffee shop in the middle of nowhere, or perhaps for a little “spice” from a barber shop in a “Black” neighborhood. Meh.
When the final truth comes out what we will probably learn is that in the handful of swing states that count it was turnout that made the difference for President Biden. And that the kind of people who vote a particular way in most elections pretty much will have done that again. But that a few more of the kind of people who vote for Democrats will have turned out in those key battleground states. But we won’t learn that until probably January of 2025.
In the immediate weeks and months following the election the media, relying mostly on pure speculation, will have supplied a different spin however. It will be a more hopeful and potentially positive spin. But also a potentially dangerous one. Because if I’m right, they will offer the speculative spin that Biden won becuase some mythological model of “moderate American” voter will have finally come to their senses, or “rediscovered” their faith in American democracy, or “renewed” the sense of patriotism, or whatever, and that this “change of hearts” will have made the difference. And believe me, the Biden campaign will absolutely embrace and lean into that narrative. Mandates are good for the legislative agenda.
But it won’t be true. Any more than it was ever true that some forgotten, secret underclass of “aggrieved, working class heroes” was responsible for Trump winning in 2016. In 2016 racist older white people simply turned out in much higher numbers than decent people. Since then they have not managed to repeat that. And they won’t manage to repeat it this year either.
We should not allow ourselves to be sold on any lies about who or what Republican voters have become. That is not going to change this year or any year hereafter. To protect our democracy the rest of us are just going to have to keep coming together and turning out to defeat them.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@149 Politics is about coalition-building. Bibi rules Israel because he assembled that country’s fragmented rightwing parties into a coalition. When Democrats didn’t want southern racists anymore, Nixon pulled them into the Republican Party. In recent years, Democrats have gotten affluent college-educated white males and suburban women repelled by Republican personalities and policies.
What’s happening now is the GOP is no longer recruiting new voters or trying to expand their coalition. Instead, they’re trying to keep other people from voting. This virtually guarantees their base will keep shrinking.
Roger Rabbit spews:
One of the really dumb things Republicans are doing is deliberately alienating Venezuelan asylum-seekers. Virtually all of these people are fleeing Maduro’s regime. They’re piling up on our border to escape from socialism. In the past, Western hemisphere refugees from socialism who became naturalized citizens turned out to be rabidly rightwing voters. See, e.g., Florida’s Cuban diaspora and Nicagaruans. The Venezuelan migrants are ripe for GOP recruiting; Republicans should be doing everything they can to bring them into the country and help them get citizenship. Instead, they’re loading them onto buses and dumping them in Chicago in the wintertime without food, clothing, or shelter. I don’t understand this. It’s stupid.
Independent Voters spews:
@poll
And that’s the thing, somewhere in the neighborhood of half of the people who select Nikki as the nominee are independent but right leaning voters. They know Trump. They’ve seen Trump. They hate Trump. of the other half, you can pretty safely assume that half of those would consider not voting at all if the nominee is Trump. The others will do their party duty and vote for whoever the GOP nominee is.
So what does the Nikki voting Biden plus Nikki voting then staying home add up to for a guy who needs to flip a bunch of states to get another term after being out of office for four years?
No one has a good answer for that but it’s not insignificant.

They did. In the terminal weeks of the Trump presidential disaster, surrounding the chaos of the insurrection fraud and pipe-bomb riot, Trump DOJ scumbags scrambled to ink a deal with Boeing to defer any criminal prosecution for the company’s criminal misconduct if they complied with a series of safety improvements and paid a very tiny fine.
Well, oops.
Aaaalmost all the way through that compliance period the fucking assholes left critical safety fasteners out of a critical air frame component and BLAMMO.

152,
I absolutely agree with your analysis insofar as it is focused on how Trump impacts election turnout.
Polling not only fails to capture that, in some cases it gives a false sense of what the next election turnout composition will be based on the last election. As I believe you rightly point out, some significant percentage of unaligned voters hate Trump. Another percentage are turned off or at least uninspired by his brand of fascist posturing, xenophobic rage, and toxic misogyny and bigotry. I too don’t know to what extent that means they stay home or to what extent that means they vote for Kennedy, etc.
But I don’t think that matters to President Biden. Because Trump, who now runs on a record of failure and fraud, and as a convicted criminal and rapist, is further burdened by the requirement to reverse his previous losses and flip quite a few states that he was incapable of winning when he was president. In order for Trump to win these key states he must overcome an already existing turnout disadvantage. And he must do so in an environment that is stacked against him – Dobbs, impeachment, criminal fraud, criminal obstruction, ongoing rape trials, racketeering trials, etc.
I know that there’s a sense of dread and apprehension among a lot of Democrats where Trump is concerned. But if we examine his actual and very limited record of political accomplishments there is nothing there to argue that he is capable of this. He is not capable, nor has he surrounded himself with professionals who are capable. Given that he may still truly believe that he won in 2020, he may not even recognize how big of a task lies before him.

Trump showed up about a dozen times only just flying in for quick rallies and maybe a single side trip then flying back out. Won 98 of those 99 counties, and basically tied his opponent in the 99th.
It’s just a single data point. And it’s a single data point that has only limited relevance to only limited parts of general election battleground states (Iowa ain’t one). But it serves to provide a real life demonstration of something that political analysts have talked about for years now. Whatever the size of Trump’s base may be, it is absolutely unwavering in its support. Those Iowa caucusgoers were never going to vote for anyone other than Trump. Nothing else matters to them.
And even if fucking idiots like Shop Girl, Fat Midget, and our profoundly stupid trust fund troll don’t want to look at that or think about it, you can bet your ass Trump sees it.

Personally I hope he loses the GOP primary and ends up running as an indy. That would be the best thing for America and certainly the best thing for the future of the GOP. But it would also guarantee a disaster for Republicans this fall. And everything I’ve seen about them in recent years tells me that even as stupid and self-destructive as Republicans have become, their instinct for preservation of power abides and transcends. The utter weaklings who define the so-called “moderate” mainstream of the GOP will make whatever the fuck accomodations they must in order to avoid that. And that will eventually mean throwing Shop Girl and Fat Midget undre the bus and punching the gas toward November.

Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
In a CNN entrance poll, 68% of Iowa caucusgoers believed that Trump won the 2020 election.
We are invited by corporate biased media to marvel at such results and perhaps to dismiss the delusional views of those voters. But I think it tells a different story having to do with the widespread belief in Trump’s electability argument.
It’s not that often in modern presidential politics that a nominee who strikes out badly gets to take a second at-bat. There have been a few seemingly perennial primary candidates. But once the party faithful give their nod of approval it’s do or die. Worse for Trump is the fact that he got his ass kicked as an incumbent running with huge advantages in every respect. And he still could not close the deal. Primary partisans have tended to take that kind of losing performance as a powerful indicator of weakness and incapacity on the part of that politician. They might be able to retreat from such a loss and go back to a Senate seat. But otherwise it normally means retirement.
These voters have got to believe that Trump won in 2020 in order to sustain their belief that he is capable of winning in 2024.
There is no other option. They are compelled by circumstance to adopt what is an obviously absurd and humiliatingly delusional belief in order to be able to line up with everyone else behind Trump.
And the media seeing this, are swept into the same myth of electability surrounding Trump. And then Democrats seeing that are swept into it as well.
But look, it just is not a credible or sustainable claim that Trump won any of those contested states, counties, or precincts in 2020. Time after time when the results are poured over with granular intensity the result proves that any counting errors shorted Biden, not Trump. Trump ran and lost. Trump sued and lost. Trump appealed and lost. Trump arranged a forged document fraud and lost. Trump summoned a riot and lost.
So when I see these poll stats about Republican voters embracing this silly myth it tells me they are lying to themselves to sustain what the unconsciously recognize is a lost cause. He is not electable. It’s been proven by actual elections. And they know it. But they are running with him anyway because the only Americans they hate more than themselves are “the libs”. They are willing to accept the loss just to put American through another round of Trump.

But I will say it absolutely tells us how precise, efficient, very well organized, and incredibly well prepared Julie Chávez Rodríguez and her team are right now. This is just fundraising. It’s not messaging. For that we have to wait.
But I’m more confident than ever that the campaign is ready to produce the registration and turnout in key battleground states needed to win in November.

Then don’t conduct White House business on private servers (e.g., Twitter’s).
Roger Rabbit spews:
@189 After months of unanswered messaging that Biden took millions in bribes from foreign governments, he can only go up in the polls after his campaign begins to blow that smear out of the water.
Of course, it would be different if he did pocket millions from Hunter’s influence-peddling. And it’s possible he did, and the GOP’s hopelessly inept sleuthing team simply failed to find evidence of the offense. Trump could murder someone right in front of them, or incite a riot, and they wouldn’t see the proof right in front of their eyes.
In that case, voters would face a choice between a fascist authoritarian of questionable mental stability who uses the office for personal gain, or a garden-variety corrupt crook who uses the office for personal gain, but it would still be an easy choice to make.

She was FLOTUS for 8 years. She was a NY senator for 8 years. She was SoS for 4 years.
Nonetheless, half of Iowa rejected that corrupt POS.
Then America did, too.

Trump, yesterday.

Trump, 2020.

This was just people out walking their dogs.
Don’t kid yourself, Haley is a POS too. She’d been pandering to southern racists her entire political career. There is no “good” GOP candidate in the 2024 race.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
Turnout.
It’s not that complicated. And because Trump is so obviously polarizing most of the giant war chest that Biden is still building up can be focused on that.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
See how that works? The profoundly stupid troll is staring his future right in the face and he isn’t seeing it.
Good. It’s much more fun when the tears of agony are unexpected.

Yet more evidence that you’re a dumbfuck for the ages.

@196 “And because Trump is so obviously polarizing most of the giant war chest that Biden is still building up can be focused on that.”
Meanwhile, most of the money Trump raises will be used for his legal expenses.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
195,
I really have no idea what the fuck kind of line she is trying to walk here.
Evangelicals are 70% of Republican primary voters in her own state. And they are going to Trump by like three to one. And while there’s a small chance she could sneak a win in NH it’s just hospice care to keep the patient comfortable and treat the pain before the inevitable. Which is Trump being declared the GOP nominee in April. Just in time for his next trial to start.

What legal expenses?
I don’t think he’s paying anyone other than Kise.
The rest of those mutts are working for free. Even if they don’t know it yet.

@202 He still needs paper and printer ink. Lots of it.

News reports citing anonymous sources are saying that the Capitol Police and the FBI have opened an investigation into recently published recorded remarks by Trump campaign surrogate Roger Stone in 2020 instructing a member of his security detail to assasinate two Democratic members of the House.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Headlines from the Daily Mail gossip rag:
“‘Worn out’ Trump, 77, sparks health fears”
“Visibly had a hard time walking straight and appeared to be dragging his leg”
“Doctors say neurological issue likely not the problem but he is clearly getting old”
From the story:
“Despite a resounding win in the Iowa Republican caucus last night, doctors warn Donald Trump has looked tired, gaunt and unsteady on his feet in recent months.
“The 77-year-old, normally full of energy and charisma, looked uncharacteristically frail and unsteady as he walked into a hotel in Des Moines after a busy day of campaigning Saturday night.
“Dr Stuart Fischer, an internal medicine physician in New York, told DailyMail.com: ‘I’ve never seen that in him. The walking is one issue, but the balance is another. He looked a little bit like he was on a ship at sea.’”

His near-death experience with Covid must have taken a lot out of him. Maybe he never fully recovered.
He’s already outlived the U.S. average male life expectancy by four years, so it’s not surprising that he’s on his last leg. The question is whether he’ll make it to Super Tuesday.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@204 I heard about that. I guess the fine legal question is whether he “ranted to” (First Amendment-protected political speech) or “instructed” (soliciting commission of a crime) them, and I assume that’s what the FBI is trying to determine.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
206,
There are potential charges that go beyond the order for the hit.
At the same time in 2020 as Stone was ordering a hit on members of Congress the Trump DOJ at the direction of AG Barr had intervened in the special counsel conviction of Stone for various offenses he had committed in connection to the 2016 election. The DOJ had been seeking a six year sentence but Trump’s intervention got that recommendation cut in half. While that internal negotiation was going on one of the two House members that Stone was trying to have assasinated was launching a committee investigation into that intervention by the White House. And in addition to the tape recording of Stone ordering the assasination there are witness accounts that Stone also attempted to order an assasination of one of the DOJ prosecutors who was hoding out for the original sentence recommendation.
So given that there was very clear intent here to obstruct an investigation into improprieties at the Trump DOJ that directly affected Stone, and given that there was precisely the same intent to obstruct the internal deliberations of the DOJ over his imminent sentencing, it will probably be impossible to Stone to argue successfully that he was just “ranting”. He was at the very minimum engagin in an effort to intimidate and obstruct, even if he never really intended to see anyone killed. The AUSA that Stone targeted quit only a few days later.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@207 Stone is a piece of garbage whose parents committed a crime against humanity by bringing him into the world. He should’ve been aborted. We can only hope prosecutors will get him on charges he can’t wiggle out of. He belongs in a cage.
