@7 just imagine you’ll be able to import all the smart people because they know how much better it is to live in Texas.

I visited the Amish Country in PA this past weekend. There really is no need for education. They know true Independence! I mean they’re letting little things creep into their lives, but the really don’t need to be educated.

Ironically they are benefitting from others’ people education.

I bought myself an Amish crafted birdhouse! We could all do something like that to make ends meet.

After posting @10 I had ChatGPT phrase what I said a little better.

See who needs education. I’m tired of 85% of my tax money going towards Education. The remaining 15% must go towards the worthless cause of fighting the Heterosexual Neanderthal Virus.

The Amish people, known for their strict adherence to traditional ways of life and rejection of modern technology, often evoke a sense of irony in contemporary society. Here are a few aspects that some people might find ironic:

Paradoxical use of technology: While the Amish are generally known for their rejection of modern technology, they do make selective use of certain technologies. For example, they may use tractors and other machinery for farming, or they might have electricity and telephones in some instances. This selective adoption of technology can be seen as ironic, as it seems contradictory to their overall philosophy of simplicity and separation from the modern world.

Tourist industry: The Amish have become a tourist attraction in certain regions, particularly in the United States, where visitors come to witness their traditional lifestyle. It is somewhat ironic that while the Amish strive for privacy and separation from the modern world, their way of life has become a source of curiosity and fascination for outsiders.

Relying on non-Amish society: Despite their desire for self-sufficiency and separation, the Amish often rely on the broader non-Amish society for various services and resources. They may depend on non-Amish doctors, hospitals, and stores for certain necessities or medical treatments that are not available within their own communities. This reliance on the outside world can be seen as ironic, given their emphasis on self-sufficiency.

Social media presence: In recent years, some Amish individuals and communities have started using social media platforms to share information and connect with a broader audience. This use of technology appears contradictory to their overall rejection of modern gadgets and the Internet. It highlights the tension between their desire for isolation and the increasing influence of the digital age.

It’s important to note that irony is subjective and can be interpreted differently by different people. What one person may see as ironic, another might see as a nuanced expression of cultural adaptation or negotiation. The Amish people have a complex relationship with technology and the modern world, and their choices are rooted in their religious beliefs, community norms, and historical context.

End of an era in Tacoma, but surprised it didn’t end sooner. Last freight trains have run up Tacoma Gulch. Tacoma Public Utilities, owner of Tacoma Rail, never wanted what became the Mountain Division to Morton, Centralia, and Fredrickson, but the city of Tacoma purchased this former Milwaukee Road line, supposedly for tourist trains. It had been a nightmare for past operators, as Tacoma Gulch near the Brown and Haley building is a 3.65% grade, and nobody has gotten the right amount of motive power per train right. Although TR has come close, with the EMD SD70ACe-P4 demos. Freight revenue doesn’t come close to what is needed to fix up tge section North of Fredrickson, and the city of Tacoma has sold this branch to short line operator Rainier Rail, who will run the freight to an interchange with Class Is at Centralia. TPU is probably happy with this, as the Tideflats division , formerly Tacoma Municipal Belt Line is TRs bread and butter, serving the Port of Tacoma.

Although a freight train is longer than a commuter train, doubt a commuter train, as some have suggested for tge line to Fredrickson. Can handle the Gulch. Would like to see Stadler bring a FLIRT for a demonstration, though. The reason the city originally bought this line, was an idea for an excursion train to Mount Rainier, as there is a spot on the Morton Branch called National Park Junction. The freight train took 2 days to reach Fredrick son and back to the Port because if the it was a big freight train, they had to double the Gulch, breaking the train into two, and then reassembling. Took several hours off the crews Hours of Service.

    “I believe in local government.
I’m in favor of individual rights rather than group rights.
I believe free markets lead to free people, and that the country needs a strong national defense.

The Republican Party no longer believes in any of these things.

Donald J. Trump, the runaway leader of the party nomination race preaches daily from the stump that he would strip away authority from local government and concentrate it within his executive branch of the federal government. He’d take away local control of elections. He’d take away local election of school boards. He’d send tens of thousands of battlefield armed soldiers into our communities to seize control away from local governments.

Donald Trump says if he becomes president he will take away your individual right to demonstrate against his government and will arrest you if you do so. He says he will force all pregnant persons in every state to give birth under all circumstances with no exceptions. He says he will create new federal agencies to decide for you what books to read to your children, what television you can watch, what music to listen to. He says he want police to have the power to stop and frisk you at any time, anywhere, for any reason. And he says if you are arrested he doesn’t think you should be allowed to stand trial and be represented by an attorney.

The most popular Republican candidate says he will take over certain private businesses if they don’t do as he commands them to do as president. Trump says he will target and punish private businesses who don’t support him just like Fat Midget. Trump and other Republicans promise to punish private, free market companies like Disney, Target, or AB InBev for making the private choice to acknowledge that gay, trans, and non-binary people exist and for trying to include them.

And of course, Trump frequently proclaims that we should abandon Ukraine, Europe, and NATO to be overrun by Vladimir Putin. He’d prefer to sell our global defense allies to our enemies, rather than to support them.

He says all this stuff very regularly in stump speeches, online comments, and spittle-flecked rants. He intends to try to do all this stuff. And for that reason he is by far the most popular Republican candidate. The Republican Party supports all this shit now. It is 2023, not 2000. Things change. The Republican Party sure as fuck has. Romney, Bush, Weld, McCain, – ALL OUT. RINOs.

After D-Day, and it was shown in Band of Brothers, our paratroopers learned keep your weapon with you during the Jump, or as they told the Replacements, Jump prepared to fight. German Paratroopers kept putting their rifles in containers before they jumped, e en after Crete, and during the Bulge. Supposed to sieze a key road junction behind Elsenborn Ridge, tge Falshinjaegers who managed to get there (after Crete the Germans didn’t do large scale airdrops, and between that and allied fighters, the Luftwaffe was low on transport pilots that could fly in formation, and could navigate), lost a good chunk of their weapons in tge drop. So they were only going to seize the road if the Panzers showed up. Problem is, the American Corps at Elsenborn Ridge, held the line, the 12th SS Panzer Division didn’t get through.

He got a CCW permit and went to a range that was owned by an ex Sheriff. Took all kinds of classes, like protective and evasive driving, advanced lifesaving, he volunteered, etc. Still could not get on with any department.

But he did start carrying all the time “for security” including to bars and clubs and ballgames “in case some asshole gets out of line”.

I think by now you already have guessed how this turns out. No he isn’t dead. Lt. Mike Byrd shot a suspected terrorist backpack bomber as she was making a violent forced entry into a highly restricted portion of the Speaker’s Lobby filled with elected lawmakers, and refusing dozens of commands to stop.

Ashli Babbit, an emotionally disturbed, radical extremist, was shot in the left shoulder and driven backward away from the entry she was attacking. She was left conscious but bleeding profusely and went quickly into shock. None of the other terrorist commandos accompanying Babbitt sought to aid her, but instead fled from the entrance leaving her alone. Lt Byrd’s fellow officers from the Capitol Police Emergency Response Team were then able to safely give aid to her, keep her alive, and transport her to Washington Hospital Center where she later died. None of her family or fellow terrorist commandos accompanied her to the hospital. She died alone – a terrorist coward in the company of lifesaving heroes.

The fate of cowards is the fate of terrorists. To die alone in shame and fear.

A good day is one in which the marginal federal tax rate that Queen YLB’s fucked kids pay is higher than the rate my wife and I pay.

Despite the conservative criticisms, Republicans clearly won the debate in one important sense: Unlike debt ceiling fights in the past — when GOP leaders demanded spending cuts but conceded tax hikes to Democrats in return — McCarthy drew a red line on new revenues early in the process, focusing the deficit reduction effort squarely on only the spending side of the budget equation in what amounts to a major victory for Republicans.

This has been a good day. Enjoy that crap sandwich, Pramila.

Yesterday, riding Grays Harbor Transit Rt40 from Olympia to Aberdeen, noticed it had good ridership between McCleary and Aberdeen. Freeloaders. Actually, all of GHT is fare free, whether tge out of county routes to Olympia and Centralia, or city routes in Aberdeen. Plus, they say fare free runs to the end of tge years, and unlike Intercity Transit in Olympia, they can resume fare collection if they want. GHT didn’t remove the fareboxes. Glad the convenience store across the street from the Olympia Transit Center re-opened, needed a soda while I was waiting for the 620 back to Lakewood,, and paid a little towards the ride.

Clallam Transit is my favorite of the rural systems on the Olympic Peninsula. Rt 123 Port Angeles to Bainbridge Island, probably in the running for the longest public transit operated bus route in the state. Started out as 2 round trips, now 3, and they have invested in the service with better buses. They want 123 to pay its own way, as the majority of the mileage is out of county. A driver said that if tge Strait Shot, as they branded it, averages 10 riders a trip., and the fare is $10 one-way for adults, it is self sufficient. A few times I rode it in the summer, it exceeded 10 per trip. Even had passengers making the tight connection with the Coho. Supervisors step up in the case of the latter if tge Hood Canal Bridge delayed the bus. Tge new buses tgey bought for the Strait Shot are from Motor Coach Industries, might even be actually using the luggage compartment for luggage.

Well, let’s see. Biden got the 2-year debt ceiling extension he wanted, which pushes the next debt ceiling fight past the 2024 election. He got the 2023 baseline he wanted, instead of the 2022 baseline and effective 8% spending that Republicans demanded. He got a 2-year spending cap, instead of the 10-year cap Republicans demanded. He gave up a little IRS funding to catch wealthy tax cheaters, which won’t cost the Treasury any revenue it has now. He accepted slightly more stringent work requirements for food stamps, with exemptions for veterans and homeless people, but none on Medicaid. On the GOP side, Republicans protected a few rich tax criminals/GOP donors and won’t get blamed for a global depression. A win-win.

Passing a debt ceiling bill will require carving 218 GOP and Democratic votes from the center, and getting a sufficient number of senators from both parties on board. There will be “hell no” posturing on both right and left, but that won’t matter if the “no’s” are outvoted. The big question then becomes whether the House GOP Hell No Caucus will try to retaliate against McCarthy, and the Democrats backstop him. This is a realistic possibility.

If more Democrats than Republicans vote to keep him as speaker, that won’t make him a Democratic speaker, but for the rest of this Congress he’ll have to operate knowing his caucus will oust him the moment Democrats don’t support him anymore. And that means he’ll have to keep his new friends happy, or at least not do anything to really piss them off. He’ll be like a dog wearing a choke collar.

How one House Democrat describes watching the jig @ 69 that Biden supposedly danced on Republicans:

“I have not made up my mind. The whole enterprise is a corrupt enterprise, in terms of legislating this way, and I’m gonna listen to what the president’s and his people’s arguments are, but no, I’m anything but a clear yes vote at this point,” he told anchor Shannon Bream in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

Himes, a moderate Democratic vote that could be key to passing the legislation, laid out his objections to the deal, saying “none of the things in the bill are Democratic priorities.” But he argued the bill might garner the support of enough Democrats to get it across the finish line.

In fact, it’s such a great deal for Democrats that Manu Raju writes,

The top Democrat in the House does not say if he will support the deal.

    and HuffPo’s Igor Bobic writes,

Jayapal says on CNN she doesn’t know how she’ll vote on the deal.

Only a true MAGAturd could possibly be this obtuse about how these modern “bipartisan” politics operate.

With the opposing party consisting of pipe-bomb building, radical grifters, plumbing the deeps of the attention economy, Democrats have to tread carefully if they want to get things done. If a Democratic Congressional leader appears too enthusiastic about anything, then dimwits like Backpages Barbie will oppose it just for the follows and mentions it generates.

But if they go too far in the other direction, expressing too much disappointment in order to draw out FREEDOOM KOOKAUS support, they risk losing their own voters. Democrats have to appear at least a little reluctant to help Brave Kevin whip enough votes.

And thus it is, that by keenly focusing so much attention on those guarded and carefully worded comments from Democrats, profoundly stupid Republican trolls like the Shit-lord Crybaby may play an important role in getting it to pass.

    Progressive Caucus retracts Ukraine letter

Well, that backfired: The Congressional Progressive Caucus retracted its letter calling on President JOE BIDEN to push for direct diplomacy with Moscow less than a day after it drew intense backlash from other Democrats.

The about-face, which POLITICO first reported was under consideration, comes as some Democratic lawmakers vent their fury that the letter backing talks with Russian President VLADIMIR PUTIN — originally drafted and signed in June — wasn’t recirculated before its public release on Monday. That created a sticky situation for the 30 House Democrats who signed on, all lawmakers in the roughly 100-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, making it look like they were urging Biden to push for diplomacy immediately despite Russia’s engagement in war crimes and indications of a military escalation against Ukraine.

There are 100 dumb twats in the House Progressive Caucus, while only about 45 dumb twats comprise the House Freedom Caucus. This leaves 290 potentially rational House members.

The difference is the March bill passed with all Republican votes, no Democratic votes, and zero votes to spare; so if even one more Freedom Caucus or other House Republican objects, McCarthy will need to make it up with Democratic votes. That’s the difference.

This is a bipartisan bill. Reps of both parties will oppose it. McCarthy will need to cobble together 218 votes from the center. That’s very different from catering to the “burn it all down” arsonists in his party. That’s the difference.

According to my calculations, what Republicans got for their billionaire donors is one more year of tax cheating followed by 2.78% less enforcement in the next 9 years. That’s a deal I’d take in exchange for Republicans assenting to being humiliated in front of their wealthy donors. Who, by the way, would’ve suffered a serious decline in wealth if their Republican gofers didn’t agree to these terms. And the courts upheld this taking. That’s when I realized American law is all about money and property, and has little or nothing to do with justice.

The IRS funding took a much bigger hit than we thought:

IRS’ cuts steeper than some had expected
Biden agreed to trim $21.4 billion from one of his signature achievements — an $80 billion boost in Internal Revenue Service funding that Democrats had pushed through last year.

That’s a bigger cut than many earlier news reports describing the deal had envisioned.

While the debt legislation calls for only a $1.4 billion rescission immediately, the administration says it has agreed to take another $10 billion this fall to shore up other non-defense discretionary spending in annual appropriations bills.

And it says it will repeat that next year when lawmakers tackle fiscal year 2025 funding — swiping another $10 billion from that $80 billion and using it for other domestic programs.

Fear not, libbies, for the IRS will still possess the teeth to stick it to Queen YLB’s fucked kids, and not just to “so-called journalist” Matt Taibbi.

We like Manchin right where he is. And unlike some other parties we seldom mention around here (/s), we certainly won’t be primarying him next year. The president, the majority leader, the DSCC, and his Senate colleagues support his reelection and are working to see him succeed.

And once again, thanks almost entirely to Republicans, Senate President Harris will continue to cast votes beyond 2024. Then it’s on to 2026, Collins’ retirement, Caribou Barbie blowing up AK, leaving Tillis and Ernst struggling to keep their heads above the rising tide of Dobbs backlash.

Speaker McCarthy takes my corrupt, inompetent, senile fossile of a president out to the woodshed in a WSJ Op-Ed:

That is what House Republicans have fought for since Jan. 12, when I called on President Biden to negotiate a responsible debt-limit increase. For 97 days, Mr. Biden dragged his feet and instead promoted a far-left wish list that included more reckless spending, more taxes and more debt. Apparently he thought he could ignore the national debt crisis like he ignores the crisis at the southern border.

House Republicans never gave up. While the president ducked negotiations and Senate Democrats were missing in action, Republicans passed a bill that forced Mr. Biden to the table and changed the paradigm. With the introduction of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, we are changing the direction in Washington through a responsible debt-limit increase that cuts spending, saves taxpayers money and restores economic growth.

Perhaps the most historic and foundational change is cutting spending year over year for the first time in more than a decade. Taking aside veterans’ healthcare, which will be fully funded, we will return to 2022 spending levels for nondefense accounts and set top-line spending at 1% growth for the next six years.

In other words, we will spend less money next year than we did this year—stopping inflationary spending while fully funding national defense, meeting our obligations to veterans, and preserving and protecting Social Security and Medicare.

The insane, deranged, misogynist kreepshit of widbee is known here for many batshit insane views.. one of them that stands out is its unhinged hatred of public schooling and public schoolteachers.. we’ve found an appropriate story:

“Christina, 34, and Aaron, 37, had joined no coalitions. They had published no memoirs. Their rebellion played out in angry text messages and emails with their parents, in tense conversations conducted at the edges of birthday parties and Easter gatherings. Their own children — four of them, including Aimee — knew little of their reasons for abandoning home schooling..

Aaron had grown up believing Christians could out-populate atheists and Muslims by scorning birth control; Christina had been taught the Bible-based arithmetic necessary to calculate the age of a universe less than 8,000 years old. Their education was one in which dinosaurs were herded aboard Noah’s ark — and in which the penalty for doubt or disobedience was swift. Sometimes they still flinched when they remembered their parents’ literal adherence to the words of the Old Testament: “Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.”

“It’s specifically a system that is set up to hide the abuse. … At some point, you become so mentally imprisoned you don’t even realize you need help.”

“The use of the rod is for the purpose of breaking the child’s will,” stated the handout that they bent over together in the church. “One way to tell if this has happened is to see if they can look you in the eyes after being disciplined and ask for forgiveness.”

But they could provide new and different opportunities for their own kids. They were doing so in Loudoun County, one of the hotbeds of America’s culture wars over public instruction about race and gender. To the Bealls, who truly knew what it was like to learn through the lens of ideology, concerns about kids being brainwashed in public schools were laughable.

“People who think the public schools are indoctrinating don’t know what indoctrination is. We were indoctrinated,” Aaron says. “It’s not even comparable.”

WASHINGTON — As criticism builds in Republican ranks over the debt ceiling deal struck by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and President Joe Biden, some hard-line conservatives have begun floating the idea of toppling the speaker.

On a House Freedom Caucus call Monday night, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., floated using the motion to vacate, a rule that would allow any member of Congress to force a vote to remove the speaker, two sources familiar with the call told NBC News. Buck, speaking toward the end of the call, referred to it as the “elephant in the room,” one source said.

After House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, R-Pa., suggested it might be too early for such a drastic threat, Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., proposed using the threat to force McCarthy to allow members to amend the bill on the House floor, under an “open rule” that could stall the bill’s passage. Perry responded that they would discuss the issue more when members return to Washington after the long weekend.

The Heterosexual Neanderthals really are a violent hateful group. Perverted assholes. Costing the taxpayer millions if not trillions.

Reade was always an obviously pitiable, unaccomplished, seemingly disturbed person, even before anyone learned about her history as a bunko artist. But that never stopped our pathetic lying troll from completely discrediting himself backing her implausible lies. This is of a whole along with his soaring claims of market timing genius and professional accomplishment.

An unemployed rad tech who inherited a damp, wooded acreage in the Puget Sound who kills his days nervously day trading his “system” and trolling an obscure liberal blog in between trips to Costco and bouts of masturbating to violent sport murdering cop videos.

Former spy and current Duma member Marina Butina is asking Putin to fast-track Reade’s Russian citizenship. In Russia, you don’t get favors like that for no reason. It’s a reward for services rendered.

Tara Reade endorses Russian invasion of Ukraine, civilian massacres, bombing hospitals and schools, and kidnapping Ukrainian children:

“‘It’s very sad that America has chosen the wrong side in history,’ she said, echoing Kremlin propaganda about the Ukrainian government. ‘To my Russian brothers and sisters, I’m sorry right now that American elites are choosing to have such an aggressive stance.'”

And there’s also this: “Late last year, Russian diplomats sought to bring Reade to the UN to testify about diversion of U.S. weapons provided to Ukraine, Semafor reported.”

Oh hey, just this month Matt Gaetz and MTG invited Reade to testify against Biden, but now another Republican “whistleblower” has gone “unavailable.”

Rep. Dingell: “I’m angry that we are being held hostage. And we are continuing to be held hostage because we do not have a choice.”

Asked about changes to NEPA: “It is my husband’s legacy, and why I’m so angry. I also care about it.”
