    I just read a little interesting background on how Musk finds himself over a barrel with advertisers. It has to do with a very big invite-only, virtual, live, and in-person digital advertising sales event called New Fronts that is organized each year by the Interactive Advertising Bureau.

    When Musk first revealed his acquisition stake in Twitter and his intentions to take over the company back in April a group called Stop the Deal was formed by digital advertisers and users (https://accountabletech.org/) who began immediately lobbying and educating digital advertisers and agencies about basic questions they should put to Twitter at the May event, ahead of such a deal in the interest of protecting users, and advertising brand safety and suitability. Over the course of the seven day sales event later in May a majority of advertisers put those questions to Twitter and got back very little in the way of any response. The one big Twitter hosted segment of the multi-day event, in which Twitter sales showcased their content and product offerings to advertisers apparently was a disaster and was concluded hours earlier than intended. Typically Twitter would book about $600 to $900 million in guaranteed revenue over the course of the seven days – or between 15% and 20% of their planned ad revenue. This year they booked almost nothing.

    For some reason that nobody can ever explain, from May until now Musk has done almost nothing to address these advertiser concerns and offer them assurances about his future plans for the platform. In fact, as we’ve seen by now, he’s been generally confrontational and openly evasive, resulting in an increase in advertiser hesitancy and concern. It’s important to note that back in April Stop the Deal was not calling for any advertiser boycott. They just wanted Twitter to answer questions and give advertisers assurances about their future plans involving Musk.

    The broken trust between Twitter and its advertisers that this lack of response produced could very well mean that the financial situation for Twitter is far more dire than is currently being reported – and that’s actually pretty dire.

    Interesting piece in the NYT about the Wisconsin legislature. The GOP is so close to having a veto-proof supermajority that it may not matter which party holds the executive office after the midterms.

    Apparently the Democrat governor has vetoed 146 bills, and if the GOP gets its supermajority it will bring them all back, pass them, and then override the veto if Evers wins again.

    Think about all of those down-ballot losses suffered by Democrats during the Obama years. Wisconsin hasn’t come close to reversing that.

    In the 2018 midterms, in Wisconsin’s Assembly elections, Democrats got 53% of the total votes and Republicans got 63 of the 99 Assembly seats with 44.75% of the votes.

    And you’re proud of those results. You’ll be even prouder when Republicans get a supermajority with 40% of the vote.

    Frankly, I think we should do it back to you.     So I just looked at my 401k, because I haven’t done so in a bit, longer than I normally check it. And as of 10/31/22 my 1 Year Rate of Return is .19%, not negative like most schleps. And that was during a period where I was paying back a $20,000 loan against my 401k and not making any contributions/investing into the Stable Fund account (aside from the loan repayment of $930 / pay period). This loan has been fully paid of as of the last pay period, 2 weeks ago, My mistake – I guess the loan payback money could have gone into the Stable Fund instead of the Small Cap Fund, and made some type of positive return, oh well.

    So, while there I decided to look at future contribution investmets and I made a change from 100% into a small cap fund to 90% Stable Fund and 10% into that same samll cap fund.

    I figure it could be a bumpy road ahead with the GOP playing tricks. But as usually, my timing is usually off, so maybe the market will gain, but if so I think will only be temporarilty, even though it just went up a bit.

    I didn’t move any funds around just the future contributions into the noted make-up above.

    When a freind of mine told me that he’s lost $300,000 over the last year on a little less than $1.75M portfolio, I don’t feel so bad with my litte to no gains.

    I personally don’t believe Bernie Sanders could have ever acheived that, nor really do I think he could have come very close. Moreover, I haven’t seen any profoundly weak trolls ever arguing that he could have. With a better campaign and a less politically corrupted FBI director, Clinton might have beaten Donald Trump in 2016. Bernie was never going to. After all, the 70 million people who voted for Trump did so quite willingly even after he went on television and admitted to them that he had a history of sexual assault. Nothing was going to change Trump’s vote total. No message, no persuasion, nothing. The only meaningful variable was turnout on the other side. We now have twice as much evidence supporting the conclusion that on that measure Bernie would have performed worse.

    Besides, the real point here is that Trump’s inevitable triumph and humiliation of DeSantis won’t come about through bias among state party officials or playing favorites with state level polling data. It will come about from weakness. The weakness of Ron DeSantis. And the weakness of his supporters like this troll. Maybe this is why black voters in St. Louis see the problem of violent crime differently than white voters in Seattle’s 43rd LD do:

    Black voters are particularly likely to say violent crime is a very important midterm issue. Black Americans have consistently been more likely than other racial and ethnic groups to express concern about violent crime, and that remains the case this year.

    Some 81% of Black registered voters say violent crime is very important to their midterm vote, compared with 65% of Hispanic and 56% of White voters. (There were not enough Asian American voters in the Center’s survey to analyze independently.)

    Differences by race are especially pronounced among Democratic registered voters. While 82% of Black Democratic voters say violent crime is very important to their vote this year, only a third of White Democratic voters say the same.

    Whereas the Republican Party nomination process actually lacked voter participation entirely in eight states. And in the other forty two states party rules were adopted to deny nominating delegates to any candidate other than Trump. The result, more than anything else, has been Trump’s continued, and ongoing control of the party, even after his humiliating election defeat, multiple criminal corruption investigations, pending financial collapse, and sponsorship of a pipe-bomb attack on Congress in order to prevent the certification of his election defeat. Another result will be his assured nomination in summer of 2024.
