@3 War is fickle. For example, a country builds its war-fighting doctrine around thousands of Main Battle Tanks, each costing several million rubles, only to see them all blown to bits by shoulder-fired missiles costing only $175,000 each, and supplied free to your enemy by the thousands, incinerating their 19-year-old conscript crews in the process. You can deal with tens of thousands of dead conscripts, but you can’t win a war with dead tanks.

We enjoyed chatting a bit before I’d go see the electrical plan review guy. Her name was Gay.
One day that first week I was standing outside one of M-D’s trailers chatting with a woman who worked for them. In appearance, she reminded an awful lot of that woman at the Seattle permit office. And that was in the back of my mind as I was talking with her.
At one point she interrupts me as I was saying something, “Steve, you need to know something. I’m gay.”
“No, you’re not.”

It’s Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit @ 4 posting it so you know it’s gonna be a lie, and the only question is where the lie is factored in.
In the piece mentioned in his link the lie is in the way that the crime statistics are compiled:
• Picking and choosing from “reputable” news sources and avoiding the ones deemed, apparently, disreputable.
• Comparing states even if they didn’t even report crime data. Never mind the reality that one state’s definition of murder might differ from another’s.
• Ignoring (most of) the FBI’s national crime statistics, which are broken down by state.
Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s dishonest piece was written in 2022. Yet the FBI statistics for 2020 were available last Fall.
Using Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s dishonest piece, we don’t have to talk about murders of inner city kids in Illinois (a relief to HA’s dumbest twat YLB), because Illinois isn’t in the Top Ten in the list of states he wants you to believe are accurate.
However, if you go to the FBI murder statistics for 2020, you find this:
Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s dishonest piece link includes this information:
Any idea where that came from? Why, it’s from the FBI’s 2020 murder statistics.
Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s dishonest piece chose to use the FBI statistics it wanted to use, and to gin up results on its own when the FBI’s were not helpful to its narrative.
Now, using the FBI’s data means Baltimore’s horrific murder tally comes into play. Baltimore is a shithole run by Democrats like Catherine Pugh (recently released from prison) and Marilyn Mosby (facing prison along with her politician husband, although only under indictment at this time). But Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit will tell you it’s the GOP’s fault, because Maryland’s governor is Larry Hogan.

18,
Funny enough Republicans don’t see it this way.
To a Republican banning a book like Everywhere Babies is “FREEDOM”. It’s a weird sort of back-flip that can only arise from a cultural position of extreme privilege.
Allowing any other parent’s child to check out and enjoy a book like Everywhere Babies is harmful to them as they perceive it. The mere fact that somebody else, way over there, completely unknown to them, is allowing their child to read a book filled with race-mixing babies is something they experience as “hurt”. They sincerely experience this stuff as “injury” to them personally.
And the explanation for it lies almost exclusively in their own self-identification as one of “the good people”, whether that means “white”, or “Christian”, or “well-bred”, or “educated” or whatever. These things are status markers for modern Republicans that not only differentiate them from “the others”, but also empower them to impose cultural norms and values on “the others”. Stripping them of that power to make decisions over the lives of people they don’t know is very damaging to them.
So even though what they are demanding is precisely the opposite of personal, individual freedom, these Republicans experience it entirely differently. The good news is that it isn’t most people, and probably not even most Republicans who really feel this way. This isn’t “the rise of fascism in America” in my opinion. Primarily because the vast, overwhelming majority of Americans still support personal, individual freedom more than they fear how some family in another city who they will never meet lets their kid listen to a Beatles album played backwards.

YLB laughing at vacuous troll, the "seriously" silly, irrelevant, kreepee kreepah of widbee spews:
Here’s what a certain pos troll from widbee voted for twice:
In the last year of President George W. Bush’s presidency, Congress passed the College Cost Reduction and Access Act with bipartisan support. It promised to ease the burden of repayment of student loan debt—a burgeoning problem caused by skyrocketing college tuition—through a number of modifications to existing programs and by creating new ones. The Bush administration touted the bill’s expansion of Pell Grants, increasing the amount of money low-income families could receive toward tuition. Further, it reduced the interest rate on future federal Stafford Loans, cutting them in half over the following few years.
Perhaps the largest lasting impacts, however, came for borrowers already in repayment. The Act created two programs that were designed to ease the ongoing cost to borrowers and to help them eliminate their loans if they were working in public service. Although the White House did little to advertise these programs, Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) have remained integral parts of the federal student loan system and are regular news items in the ongoing student debt crisis.

Probably that person is supposed to feel that if he/she/it=they chose public service instead of Nonbinary Gender Studies To Avoid Selective Service coaching on the sidewalk on Broadway on Seattle’s Capitol Hill, they’d be able to reduce their student loan burden, too. YLB, the whole point of reducing debt in exchange for public service is to promote public service. If someone chooses to earn $145,000 in the private sector, YLB, why does that person deserve any free money from my imbecile president? To be blunt, I don’t give a shit how that person feels. That person’s feelz are not my problem. Neither are yours, and neither are those of your kids. If your kid contemplating professional school takes out loans to fund it, it’s likely that there are programs to forgive some (or all) of that debt should your kid decide to practice somewhere that has a shortage of people in whatever profession he wants to enter. It might not be the most fun place to live, but it’s the government’s way of addressing a need by offering an incentive if that need is met. If your kid chooses that route, more power to him.
Why should I, or anyone else for that matter, care how your kid feelz if your kid doesn’t want to give back?
Put on your big girl skirt, ya dumb twat, and admit that Biden is doing nothing to promote public service or otherwise get anything except more Democrat votes out of this proposed giveaway.

@47 “The bill also helps ease the burden on men and women in uniform who have taken out loans for higher education. We believe that when you’re wearing the uniform we need to help you; that you’re making a sacrifice, and it’s okay for the government to help you in dealing with your loans when it comes to higher education. And so those on active duty military will now have new flexibility to defer payments on their loans.”
Well, that’s an improvement over the Republicans of my time. When I went into the army, basic pay for a recruit was $90 a month. After a couple of promotions, I maxed out at $258 a month in Vietnam, including combat pay and overseas allowance. Then, after the U.S. withdrew from Vietnam, ended the draft, and went to an all-volunteer military, they tripled the pay (otherwise no one would enlist) and increased the educational benefits.
At that point, I wrote to U.S. Sen. Slade Gorton (R-WA) pointing out the drastic disparity in pay between those who fought the Vietnam War and the new peacetime all-volunteer military, and asked if Congress might enact some sort of student loan relief for Vietnam veterans, and got back a letter saying in so many polite words to go fuck myself with a paternalistic lecture about paying one’s debts.
So, I can only speak from my own experience, and that’s what my personal experience was.

If you were stupid enough to pay off your debt, you won’t make the same mistake the next time you go into debt with the government. You can just wait for the next Democrat desperate for votes to offer you free money. Roger Rabbit spews:
@68 Explain how putting college out of reach of bright students of limited means, or alternatively drowning them in so much debt they can’t afford to marry, buy homes, and start families, “will … harm the economy.”
If you’re worried about deficits harming the economy, then stop minting more tax breaks for people who already have more money than they know what to do with.
Our differences aren’t really about deficits or government spending. Republicans spend just as much, and run just as large deficits, as Democrats. It’s about different priorities. We want to help poor students. Republicans want to line their own pockets.

The top 10 highest paid officers made between $304,417 and $414,543. The city generously compensates their other employees too; tree trimmers make over $150,000, the chief librarian makes $197,704, electricians are paid $271,070 and electrical lineworkers earn more than $300,000. 1,052 officers, 172 sergeants, 61 lieutenants and 23 captains at the SPD earned a salary of more than $100,000. Taxpayers shelled out $237 million to compensate all of the city’s 6-figure workers.”

In Georgia, Republicans passed a law making it an imprisonable felony to hand a water bottle to someone waiting hours in line to vote, which happens only in black precincts. White voters don’t have to wait in long lines.
Don’t be surprised if the Supreme Court conservative majority created by stealing vacancies from Democratic presidents says, “Move along folks, there’s nothing to see here.”

Republicans have been making this prediction since the Raygun years. Despite crushing his Dem opponents and winning popular majorities in all but one state, Raygun earned only 4% and 9% of minority votes in 80 and 84 respectively. Their most popular candidate was still overwhelmingly the candidate of older white people. And despite their think-tank predictions of racial “realignment” the Raygun elections saw the launch of the current era of extreme racial polarization. Raygun won 73% of white protestants. Because his campaign was specifically targeted to appeal to white protestants.
Not only have they never even come close, the gap has widened steadily as African Americans residing in slave states born before WWII (and who very often registered as Republicans) have died off. Moreover, efforts to redraw districts on racially polarized lines have exceeded expectations in states controlled by Republicans. By systematically “cracking” minority voters into majority white, protestant districts Republicans have all but guaranteed that what Degen predicts can’t happen. In many more Congressional districts in 2022 it would be a mathematical impossibility. It’s another double back flip they depend upon in order to continue to tell themselves they aren’t bigots.

It’s hard to see Biden passing on the opportunity.. The following article makes good points:
The United States needs a much more progressive tax-and-transfer infrastructure, given how dramatically inequality has increased. But not every single policy needs to be ideally progressive to achieve that goal. The principle matters here too. The fact that higher education should be a public good matters.
The possibility that a jubilee would increase college costs down the road is perhaps the most serious concern—but hardly a reason not to help the people now in need, and people Biden could help without Congress. Politicians and policy makers could follow up debt relief with a plan to make college affordable and accessible, ideally with direct federal investment in higher-education financing.
This is a policy that would help middle-class families, could be passed instantly, and would advance racial justice. Student-loan debt is suffocating an entire generation. Why not, during this miserable pandemic, magic at least some of it away?

Rising expectations used to be regarded as economic virtues that helped propel not just greater overall GDP but also per capita GDP. Given the debt finance structure of a modern post-industrial economy, now might not be a great time to adopt “austerity” and a flattening, or worse, lowering of worker/consumer expectations. Examples:
In 2022, tuition to Oregon State U is $12K
In 1974, tuition to Oregon State U was $536, that, in todays dollars is $3.2K. The government gradually stopped supporting Higher Ed. Boomers don’t care. They got theirs and it kept their taxes lower.
Boeing grandfathered the Boomers into pensions and they didn’t put up a fight, they let the younger generation get screwed so they could keep their benefits.
When will social security be out of money? 2034.

My tuition wasn’t cheaper, because I paid non-resident tuition, so I didn’t have state support either. My ticket to law school was a war. The G.I. Bill paid my law school tuition, but I still had to pay for books and other expenses. I graduated from law school with over $100,000 of debt in 2022 dollars. Was my experience typical? No. This rabbit is 100% self-made, and there are very few people of any generation who would do what I did, or make the sacrifices I made. So I have a distorted perspective. But one thing common to all Boomers was: Go to college, or go to Vietnam. Every single male who came of age in the ’60s had that hanging over him. And this wasn’t a little war. Hundreds of Americans were being killed every week. Every college student of the 1960s knew that flunking out could mean death. The X, Y, Z, and millennial generations didn’t have to face that. Boomers did.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Vietnam veterans aren’t the Greatest Generation. We’re only the second greatest generation. The GG’s won their war and were welcomed home to cheering parades. But they produced the leaders who lost our war. They blamed us, and turned their backs on us. I have very mixed feelings about the GGs. I respect what they did in WW2, but hate what they did to us. Our generation mistreated us, too. I learned not to tell people I was a veteran. People called us baby killers. Movies and TV shows depicted us as psychos, that was a thing then. We were exploited. The Gulf War and 9/11 changed everything. The hostility is gone now. But we lived with it, and were discriminated against, for a very long time.
There’s nobody in this country I’d walk through Hell with except another Vietnam veteran. I can depend on them. I wouldn’t trust anyone else for something like that. Except I wouldn’t do it with the ones who are Trumpers now; I don’t want anything to do with them.
I know who the very best of my generation were, and I know that I’m one of ’em. I know what I did and what I am. For the rest of my life, that’s good enough.
