Recently saw the Perfect 36, a documentary on Magellan TV about the fight in the Tennessee House over ratification of the Equal Suffrage Amendment. Tennessee was the last hope to ratify it before the 192O Election. The anti-suffrage people put up a fight, thought they had the votes, the pro-amendment crowd was going at each other, as well as the opponents. Came down to a Rep that could be described as a Mommas Boy changing his vote.
Got curious where Washington was in the battle to ratify the 19th. Shocked we were 35th, having passed our own amendment in 1910 thought we would have ratified it early, turned out the Washington Legislature was trying to be 36th, but couldn’t wait much longer. The Perfect 36 didn’t cover that part, but it would have been a great contrast. Here it cleared at least one House unanimously, and was introduced by a female legislator.

“Attorneys for the city … argued that officers were responding to massive, unexpected and unprecedented demonstrations and used the less-lethal weapons to protect property and to deal with people in the crowd who were throwing projectiles at police. They urged the jury to consider the totality of the chaos.
“Officers made mistakes during the chaotic protests, Lindsay Jordan, of the Denver City Attorney’s Office, said during her closing arguments Friday. ‘But mistakes do not equal constitutional violations,’ she said.
“In a statement after the verdict, Denver officials said officers ‘encountered extreme destructive behavior from some agitators among largely peaceful protestors. We recognize that some mistakes were made.’
“Denver police officers and leaders who took the stand said it was difficult to discern who in the crowd was throwing projectiles or causing property damage. Extracting the people acting violently was dangerous and difficult, they said.
“’In 40 years I never saw such anger against police,’ Patrick Phelan, the now-retired Denver police commander who oversaw protest response, said during his trial testimony.”
https://www.denverpost.com/2022/03/25/denver-protest-lawsuit-trial-verdict/
In other words, “shoot ’em all [soldiers and civilians] and let God sort ’em out.”
Basically the city is arguing you have no constitutional rights if people in your vicinity are rioting or assaulting cops, and the police have no duty to distinguish the innocent from the guilty. You can be a totally innocent bystander, and if they club and mace you, too fucking bad, your rights weren’t violated.
The jury didn’t agree with that philosophy. Interestingly, a former Seattle police chief testified in this trial as an expert witness for the plaintiffs.

Granted, Biden isn’t steeped in Russian history and culture. Regime change in Russia would only get you another regime like this one. Maybe worse.
Russia has no tradition of democracy. It does have a 750-year history of iron-fisted, autocratic one-man rule. Putin is merely the latest tsar. If he leaves the scene, there’ll be another one.
For centuries, Russians embraced the tsarist system because it united the warring fiefdoms and threw off 250 years of Mongol domination. Better to be ruled by your own thug than a khan.
Russian history also is characterized by shifting borders. The ancient capital of “Rus” was Kiev. What is now Ukraine was once the center of the Russian empire. The country “Ukraine” didn’t even exist until 100 years ago, and its current borders weren’t set until after World War 2. So when Putin says “Ukraine isn’t even a country, it’s part of Russia,” he isn’t up to date, but he isn’t off by much. And there’s nothing new about fighting over the location of those borders. Just ask Timothy Snyder.

During the siege of Leningrad, Russians practiced cannibalism to survive. It was a miracle Putin’s parents survived that catastrophe to birth little Pootie into the world.
But such catastrophes was nothing new to Russia. Catherine the Great said the only way to secure Russia’s borders is to expand them.
Putin is obsessed with closing those gaps like they were in Soviet times. If he ever succeeds (he won’t), he’ll want the rest of Europe as a buffer..

YTD is about 85 days or so. Three months is about 91 days or so. Between these measures there is very, very little difference in time. Only six days, or one trading week.
YTD the S&P 500 is down 8.01%. Over three months the DJIA is down 3.89%. This is a 4% shift over those six days’ difference.
YTD I’m down 1.5%, while over 3 months I’m up 4.92%, or.a difference of about 6.5%.
Using the Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit method of cherry-picking the shortest time frame possible and then bragging of the performance during it, I could truthfully claim that during a six-day period in late 2021 I outperformed the S&P 500 by nearly 9%.

This way, even though an AIDS sufferer’s income decreases as he becomes sicker over time and less able to work, this income drop is masked by the fact that his CD4 count typically falls even faster. The ratio, therefore actually goes up as the patient slowly wastes away, as long as the patient is able to earn something.
Is it misleading? Well, sure. Is it dishonest? No more dishonest than The Even Bigger Fucking Moron‘s attempt @ 12 to mask black-on-black violent crime by hiding it with the fact that these murders are preferentially occurring in states in which the voters support the Republican presidential candidate. Or Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s effort @ 65 to mask an entire lifetime of poor investment decisions with his claim to have beaten the market over a time period of less than three months.

This will worsen. Y’all know it will worsen. And really, why should First Vegetable Joe Biden care? It’s not like he’s running again in 2024.

It comes as news to The Even Bigger Fuckiing Moron that Clarence Thomas’ marriage is an interracial one. For nearly 35 years now.

Now, there’s all this boring shit in the story about a five-care pileup and a human corpse on the way to a funeral home shooting out of a van on to the highway, but here’s the important part:
That’s a relief.
Vicious Troll spews:
If I were you, The Even Bigger Fucking Moron, I’d be worried that President DeSantis would sign a law requiring that liberal homosexuals pass an IQ test with a minimum score before being allowed out in public or permitted to use the internet.

I’ve found news footage of the Fall of Saigon on YouTube. The ARVN didn’t put up a fight until it was too late. Bad leadership among the officers didn’t help. The craziest part of this story is that his resignation was purely voluntary, and that being convicted of a felony (or several) relating to bribery and lying to the federal government under oath isn’t actually something that gets you fired as a congressman. This is probably why people like Gaetz and Greene just don’t give a fuck.
Who amongst us republicans has not lied to the FBI about campaign donations from an African billionaire?

That’s bullshit.
The S&P 500 closed on Dec. 31 at 4766.18, and closed on Friday at 4543.06. That’s a difference of -223.12. Divide that by 4766.18 and you get 0.046813, or 4.86%.
You don’t even have to do the fucking math. That number is printed on page 38 of this week’s Barrons magazine, which you allegedly subscribe to.
No wonder you’re a shitty investor. You can’t do sixth-grade math or read at a fourth-grade level. And if all Republicans are as bad at elementary-school math and reading as you, it’s not surprising they can’t comprehend election results.

@116 “… the pronouns are often interchangeable, so that the subject form ‘he’ tends to be more acceptable in formal writing and speech, while the object form ‘him’ usually feels more comfortable in informal speech.”
But not always, to wit:
“There are exceptions, though. The word ‘than’ is generally thought of as a conjunction, rather than a preposition, in these structures. As such, the pronouns ‘he’ and ‘him’ can stand for entire clauses, most of the words of which have been elided. For example, consider the following:
“a: I like pasta Alfredo more than he.
“b: I like pasta Alfredo more than him.
“Both sentences have ellipses (omitted words). Without them, they would read as follows:
“a’: I like pasta Alfredo more than he (likes pasta Alfredo).
“b’: I like pasta Alfredo more than (I like) him.”

“Compelling” reasons for a “conservative” voter to turn out:
– “We can finally fix America by raising everyone’s taxes, and repealing Social Security and my Medicare”.
– More aggressive middle school swimsuit inspections.
– Protect the rights of U.S. Marines to disobey their commanders.
– Spending an extra $15 for gas.
– Ten years ago the President’s adult son went into the energy trading business in Ukraine and…. well just that. No fair!
– Let’s Go Brandon!
– After twenty years we got out of Afghanistan.
