    There wasn’t anything special demonstrated by LEO in Ottowa last week. They simply didn’t have the manpower to assert any authority.

    Ottawa city councillor Carol Anne Meehan said, after waiting three weeks, it was “surreal” to watch law enforcement sweep protesters.

    Meehan, who just resigned from the Ottawa Police Services Board, said there were only 100 officers between the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police last weekend compared to the influx seen on Friday.

    “The former chief of police had to give everyone directions to try to keep the peace and keep people safe,” said Meehan.

    “Engaging protesters, arresting them, and doing some of the action we’re seeing today wasn’t possible in the last few weeks. We didn’t have the resources.”

    Obviously considering the scale of the protest and the stated demeanor of the protesters there were bound to be some physical struggles involving the police during the removal operations. And there was no shortage of camera equipment present to record any potential drama. I’ve seen a few short clips that looked potentially dramatic. But still no massive clouds of tear gas, no BlastBalls, no LRADs or laser weapons, n injuries, no pools of blood, no CPR, etc. or any of the things that defined police response to mass demonstrations over police sport-murders in 2020.

    I’m sincerely interested if anyone has any credible reports of anyone, cops included, getting hospitalized.

    Confirmed that no one was injured (not even the horse).
    Bike was “thrown” at horse by one of the protesters.
    Horse pivoted and bucked frightening crowd. Protesters were then pushed and pushed back, etc.

    If I understand it correctly the “tactic” employed here was part of efforts to move the protesters without having to make arrests. Lines of police on foot seen to the left are the established control line. Horse mounted officers move slowly across the front of the control line causing crowd to move to the right. Police on foot, led by riot officers with extra protection move in behind the horse line supported by day glo parka police behind them. Line of control is advanced about six feet at a time.

    I’m not sure if this is a good tactic or if this is a good example of it. It does seem to have worked relatively well without producing injuries or arrests. I’m not a fan of horses for “peaceful” crowd control. It has produced injuries to bystanders. Like most police “tactics” it gets over used and escalated. And eventually you get mounted cops running down people with bull whips and then leading them to jail on foot with a noose around the neck.
    Which is never a good look.
