DOJ now has at least three cooperating witnesses.
And captured screen shots of Snapchat messages saved by two of the three.
None of the three are stellar individuals Two of the three are alleged to be directly involved in the underlying felony offenses as well as efforts to obstruct. One of the three has plead guilty to other serious felonies. All three may also face additional felony charges in the states once the feds are through with them.
AUSAs are careful and plodding compared to local state prosecutors. Bringing any bill in front of a grand jury requires some oversight and approval process. It’s bureaucratic in nature like many large government organizations. Accountability is spread out. So they stand to make their bosses look bad if things don’t go well. This is exponentially intensified in cases involving elected officials.
Ultimately I’m sure that the Attorney General would have to be read in on any decision to go before a grand jury. But approval would be required by the Assistant AG, the PDAG, and the DAG overseeing the Public Integrity Section.
It’s important to understand the political atmosphere the DOJ is operating under and how careful Garland must be, even if the media have ignored it. Powerful Republicans, “conservative” elites, and “conservative” media are now positioned in opposition to federal law enforcement (other than immigration). They now oppose the very legitimacy of the entire department. For purely partisan reasons they have been waiting desperately for the department, its investigators, and its prosecutors to make some tiny mistake in any case involving Republicans, Trumps, “conservative” domestic terrorists, “conservative” seditionists, and Republican rioters. This is largely to discredit the investigations and prosecutions of the last four years of their criminal misconduct. But it is also to weaken the President and the House leadership also investigating. And even though the Gaetz case is not directly related to those crimes, investigations, and prosecutions, Gaetz has cleverly maneuvered apparently very stupid Republican leaders into aligning themselves with him and lending him their support.
So the stakes are quite high, and in a weird way for an investigation into drugging and fucking children.
But I guess that’s what the Republican Party stands for now.
That’s what they are telling us.
And by now we should have learned to pay attention when they tell us who they really are.
I think Gaetz is almost certain to be indicted this year. The voters of his district deserve to have the facts made known before they are asked to vote for him again. The department and the senior DOJ leadership will not wish to allow the election to take place under such a cloud of uncertainty.

The House committee has now subpoenaed two of the fake electors from each of the seven states where Republican leaders sought to defraud the election by issuing fake election certificates.
More documents have now been uncovered that definitively reject the phony “just in case” excuse offered by Republicans, including our own phenomenally stupid and disingenuous piece of shit troll.
Contemporaneous letters and emails obtained via FOIA reveal the intent of the effort.
“President Donald J. Trump is the lawful winner… state legislatures… should exercise their plenary power under the Constitution and appoint clean slates of electors… both the House and Senate should accept only these clean Electoral College slates.”
Over and over again the individuals involved in planning and carrying out this effort to fabricate fake state electoral certificates and submit them in place of the actual, genuine certificates declare that it is their intention to use the fakes as part of a state level effort – not “just in case” in support of any court challenge.
They say very clearly that the substitute elector certificates they fraudulently produced were to be used when Republican controlled state legislatures overthrew the vote results and declared Trump the winner via “plenary authority”.
The plan was for Republican state lawmakers to nullify the state vote counts at the state level and simply declare Trump the winner. That would then move the dispute about which slates of electors from each of the seven states to the joint session, where the Vice President would be instructed to choose the Trump slates over the lawful slates.
It may be that some of the people whose names appear on these documents were unwitting dupes. These are intent crimes (although ironically sec 1001 violations are not). I don’t happen to believe these people should be charged with 1001 violations. But where these people were unaware of the use and intent, someone else surely was. And their defense to charges of fraud and election tampering would hinge on their willingness to expose how they were fooled, manipulated, or pressured by others.

“Hoffman runs a digital-marketing company, Rally Forge, that paid teen-agers to post thousands of propaganda messages under the teens’ accounts, and others under assumed personae, claiming that mail-in ballots would ‘lead to fraud,’ and that Democrats planned to steal the Presidency. In 2016, the company fabricated a politician—complete with a doctored photograph—to run as an Independent write-in candidate. The Guardian reported that Rally Forge also formed a fake left-wing front group, America Progress Now, which promoted Green Party candidates online in 2018, apparently to hurt Democrats in several races. Tonite I watched Enemy of the State again. Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore, Jack Black, Regina King, Lisa Bonet, Jason Robards, Gabriel Byrne. So not a low-budget flick. $90 million production cost, $250 million WW gross.
There were two eggplant references in that movie. Here is one of them. Here is the other, in which the main character explains that eggplant is a slur against black people:

Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit wants you to believe that it was mere coincidence that he chose eggplant when describing a scenario involving a black person.
He’s a fucking liar, with a long list of racist slurs in his writings. He knows he’s being watched, and yet he tried to slip this one through. The bigoted weasel can’t help himself.
Gotcha.

Roger Rabbit spews:
While Trump’s hint at pardons for Capitol rioters won’t do much for those who’ve completed their sentences by Jan. 20, 2025, the real message is that any mob that violently puts him in power on Jan. 6, 2025, won’t incur any consequences. Also implicit in that message is that any National Guardsmen or police who try to stop the mob will.
Of course, given Trump’s long track record of disloyalty to those unflaggingly loyal to him, he could be just leading them on. Trump does nothing unless there’s something in it for him.

56,
More than likely this is Trump telegraphing his real agenda for the next two years.
Trump will continue to dangle his own candidacy, continue to animate the base, and continue to promote The Big Lie. He will take every bit of credit for whatever wins the GOP manages this year. Then in mid or late 2023 he will make a deal with whichever GOP challenger to Biden is deemed best. His withdrawal from race and his full support, backing, and endorsement in exchange for a promise of an unconditional Presidential pardon.
But only for him and his family.
Remember, he always tells us exactly who he is and what he’s thinking. DeSantis would agree without hesitation. As would Haley or Cruz. In fact, I don’t think there is a single, credible Republican primary candidate who wouldn’t leap at this deal. But I think it would be very unwise to trust Ted Cruz.

NBC News has a story today about the stark differences between Washington’s and Florida’s approaches to managing the Covid-19 crisis. In Seattle, everyone wears a mask; in Tampa, almost no one does. So I asked myself, does it really make any difference? Reframed, the real question is, how many people has Ron DeSantis killed? Answer: 35,049, according to my calculations.
To get this number, I divided cases and deaths by populations for the two states, and came up with infection rates of 16.8% (of the total population) for Washington and 25.45% for Florida, and death rates (of total population) of 0.139% for Washington and 0.302% for Florida.
Then I multiplied Florida’s population by Washington’s death rate, subtracted that number from Florida’s number of deaths, and got a difference of 35,409 (64,995 actual deaths vs. 29,906 hypothetical deaths at Washington’s lower death rate).
It may go too far to say DeSantis murdered those 35,409 people, because he probably didn’t actually want them to die, and was merely indifferent to whether they lived or died, so let’s just call them human sacrifices to “REOPEN!” and “BEACH WEEK!”

@82, @83 Even using DeSantis’s doctored numbers, his performance looks awful.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I ran some more numbers.
To recap, Washington’s infection rate is 16.8% and death rate is 0.139% (as a percentage of total population).
King County: 14.68%, 0.101%
Spokane County: 20.99%, 0.229%
Okanogan County: 16.64%, 0.256%
(Factors such as availability and quality of ICU care could affect death rates)
No information is available for Island County horses, but I also have the following:
Arizona: 25.58%, 0.364%
Texas: 20.98%, 0.267%
There does appear to be a trend, i.e. the redder the state or county you live in, the sicker and deader the population is gonna be.

Vicious Troll spews:
Apparently the point Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit is trying to make is that DeSantis is a shittier governor than Inslee.
He’s going to have different numbers two weeks from now, and he’s not going to like what he sees. Looking at the references he cited @ 82, it’s clear that Florida had its Omicron peak about three weeks ago (Jan 11 or so) and the cases are declining. Deaths trail new case reports by about 17 days, so Florida is reporting peak deaths right now.
Washington, OTOH, is still experiencing a rapid increase in the number of new daily cases, so its worst numbers have yet to show up. In about 2-3 weeks, we’ll see those numbers, and deaths will be significantly higher.
Florida new cases on Jan 28: 2,793
7 day average on Jan 28: 25,473
deaths on Jan 28: 315
Washington new cases on Jan 28: 36,580
7 day average on Jan 28: 20,380
deaths on Jan 28: 119
Focus on the 7 day averages. Florida is a much larger state but its numbers are coming down, and deaths are at peak. Washington case numbers are still climbing, and rapidly, and the deaths will trail by more than 2 weeks.
Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit has proved nothing other than Omicron began in Florida much earlier than it began in Washington.
Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit is a fucking bloviating clown.
