    1,
In re your post in the prev thread, the parents will now be denied bail. They’ll be given an opportunity to reapply but only after a thorough investigation of their attempt to flee the country is completed and any sources of assistance have been identified. But likely that will be denied as well.

They’ll also be getting a great big new stack of charges. Not knowing the full facts of the case, I was inclined to think they had a decent chance of acquittal on the charge of invol man. Now they’re fucked. As much as anything because their effort to flee the country to avoid arrest suggests the full facts of the case are far worse that what we know so far. And what we know so far is very bad.

I must point out, however, that this is precisely the world gun rights advocates so often claim they want to see. “We don’t need new gun laws. We just need to enforce the laws we already have.” This is what that looks like. It may seem cruel or unjust to Bob, but this is that principle in action. I’m interested to see how it turns out. Prosecutors may be interested as well.

McDonald requested $500,000 bond each. I think she is vastly under selling this. Def Attys lied to her. And right now Def. Attys are lying to the court. She is still going easy on these people.

    I wonder why.

They emptied their bank accounts in cash, dumped their car, and arraigned with a co-conspirator to hide out in a locked warehouse near the Canadian border. Def Attys are still claiming they were preparing to turn themselves in.

Judge has ordered the $500k each along with GPS and other normal restrictions to ensure appearance. For defendants who just hours earlier had been extracted from a spider hole with a backpack full of $100 bills preparing to cross into Canada this is very favorable treatment.

Not impressed with Mrs. Crumbleys atty Shannon Smith. During arraignment she was preoccupied with pleading to the court defending her performance as an attorney over the previous 24 hrs and complaining about the prosecutor and the Sheriff. And then while the judge was reading her orders she loudly sought to interrupt. This is more than “bad form”. It suggests that she is more interested in her own reputation as an attorney in a very public case and not sufficiently focused on her client’s interests. The purpose of arraignment is to represent your client’s willingness and intention to respond to the charges and to plead for your client’s interests in pretrial release conditions. Her partner representing Mr. Crumbley seemed more mature and better prepared to focus on her client.

To say that Roe is a one-off constitutional blunder, built on a flimsy foundation, while other rights are grounded in concrete, is a myth—and a dangerous one. Nothing in the Constitution says anything to specifically protect couples’ ability to choose to have sex, use contraception, get married, decide how to educate their children, refuse bodily inspection or medical treatments, and, yes, terminate a pregnancy. From a legal perspective, if Roe falls, it’s hard to see what else will still stand.

WHY were prof targeted for punishment?
Did they say bad words? The local school board is routinely being verbally attacked by Xhristian mobs because there are books in the library with bad words. Maybe the profs were target by the same Xhristian mobs? For example, the profs were racist incels who routinely used words like “cunts” to describe black women and were targeted for their hateful speech.
Maybe they were prof s who argued that slavery was a positive good; submissive, happy, and faithful slaves were better off in the system of chattel slavery which offered them protection. They nostalgically celebrates an antebellum South of supposedly benevolent slave owners and contented enslaved people and students took offense.
Maybe the profs argued that trans kids and LGBT people should go back into the closet and should not have the rights of Real Americans and were targeted.

In charging the parents, Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald alleged that the parents ignored multiple warning signs and refused to take their son out of school just hours before the shooting took place.

If it’s criminal that they didn’t take their son out of school, might it not also be criminal that the school’s leadership didn’t demand that he be removed?

Schools, roads, health, public safety, and everything else will be neglected. That’s the real cost of overturning Roe v. Wade.

QoS McHillbilly’s link goes to a story about Reichert, which was written in 2006. Apparently this is what QoS McHillbilly defines as “running away” from abortion:

He voted with the National Right to Life 80 percent of the time in his first two years in Congress; Dunn voted with the group 64 percent of the time in her last term.

In the past two years, Reichert has voted to uphold a ban on abortions at overseas military bases, against funding for the United Nations’ population-control programs, and for a law that prohibits anyone — including a grandparent or pastor — from taking a child to another state for an abortion without parental permission.

He also supports a pharmacist’s right to not fill a prescription for the emergency contraceptive Plan B, an issue now before the state Board of Pharmacy. When asked at a recent debate about the issue, he gave a one-word answer.

Up to the time of that article Reichert voted repeatedly against abortion funding and abortion services. I don’t see how that translates to Reichert running away from it.

Say, speaking of running away from issues, QoS McHillbilly, 2006 is how many years before Brave Sir Obama was willing to publicly embrace gay marriage? Six, was it?

I don’t see how that translates to Reichert running away from it.

Because you don’t want to. In the same article your own state’s leading pro-life lobby was ghosted by both Reichert and Dunn and their endorsement was never sought. Reichert went after PP, and that’s not the same as going after abortion. For many of the suburban white women you need, PP is a stand-in for “radical fem/dyke/atheist”. Like a great many Republican men you don’t get female voters in the same way you don’t get Black voters. You think of them as a bloc voting a single issue/interest.

Going after PP, especially going after public funding of PP is not remotely the same thing as going after abortion. And it’s got even less to do with same sex marriage. You are obviously very confused about a lot of these things. But that’s at least consistent for you. Like the way you consistently associate anal intercourse with gay men despite the well worn fact that hetero couples engage in more anal sex by shear dint of numbers. It just confuses the fuck out of you.

My suggestion is that you stop being confused by no longer trying to control how other people live their lives. It’s un-American. And in your case it’s way more than you can handle.

79)Look you vulture, they are not perfect. Do you live in the Sound Transit District let alone ride it 5-7 days a week? I have been on trains that break down. It’s rare, but it happens. Usually not as bad as what happened during the Apple Cup. Most of the time, they can limp into SODO or Beacon Hill, discharge passengers, go into the yard, and the passengers get on the next train.

I was nervous for 10 years of joint bus/rail operations in the tunnel, but nothing happened. The Apple Cup incident was made worse by an operator skipping a step troubleshooting a problem. I’ve had worse incidents on buses, including that Friday. I was headed up to Bellingham, and the first bus I took, 512 Northgate-Everett broke down on I-5 and limped into Ash Way. The Community Transit driver didn’t tell anybody what the problem was, or exactly when the replacement bus would arrive. That’s right, I said CT, as they operate the Snohomish County ST Express routes. Metro operatos the 1 line, and for the most part does a good job. Plus, Pierce Transit and Community Transit don’t have 122 years of operating and maintaining electrified transportation,, although Sound Transit operates a voltage some foreign main lines use, 1500 Volts D.C, most other systems it’s 600-750 VDC.

The only route Sound Transit directly runs is the T-line. Partly because Pierce Transit is the member agency in that area., and Tacoma hadn’t had any Electric local transit since 1938.(Milwaukee Road, don’t count. They were poorly run anyway, the Pacific Extension should not have been built, the electrification was great in theory, but should not have had a 300 mile gap between Othello and Avery.). Not sure if Metro would be taking over the T-line when the Hilltop Extension opens, as ST will have to increase the workforce assigned to the T-line. The fleet of three SKODA Trams will be increased when the 5 Brookville Liberty streetcars arrive. It’s a good vehicle, just 1 fewer door per side, but the door in the high floor section on the SKODA was probably counter-productive anyway. The Liberty is running in more cities in the U.S, than the SKODA and I’ve been hearing mostly praise about it. In Milwaukee, the HOP has been exploiting the Liberty’s off-wire capability. The administrator of a Facebook group I’m a part of is from there, posts a lot about it. Would have been a better fit on the CCC in Seattle than the Spanish design used in KC and Cincinnati, as the Liberty is about the size of the current fleet, and the battery option is necessary as like the First Hill line, the plan is to only wire it uphill. Battery power and regenerative breaking handles the downhill. Metro and the city learned from the mistakes of the SLU line, where the trolley bus and and streetcar had voltage conflict. Saving money on vehicle purchases was more important than best practices. San Francisco MUNI’s MUNIMetro routes has no problem with that, the modern lrv lines run on 600V just like the PCCs and trolleybuses.

One thing I find interesting on a Bus Fan’s Facebook group I’m apart of, is many people that claim to have inside info saying that the 2600 series buses at Metro are due to be retired next week, ride em while you can. They’ve been saying that for 1 and a half years now. Although with new deliveries, and they’re age, bound to be right one of these days. The 2600s series, New Flyer DE60LF, entered service around 2004-2005, and we’re Metro’s first Hybrids. Had some issues at first, fuel economy promises weren’t achieved at first, the Diesel Engine kicked in in the tunnel, as the portion between University Street Station and Westlake got up to 30+MPH, but that was rectified with a software modification. Now, they are the oldest in the fleet. The people who post on the group with inside info might be right this time, but they could once again be crying wolf.

Personally, the DE60LF is an obsolete design, being used on urban routes when they were designed for suburb to Seattle service. Purchased to replace the worst Metro. Bus design ever, the 5000 series BREDA DuoBuses. Except for the now departed 41 and 71/72/73 routes, most DSTT routes were from the suburbs, like the 101, 102, 106, 150, 194, and 550. Even if Metro does retire the 2600s, 1 could still be in revenue service, if the Operator of the year likes it. One of the perks is they get their own bus for the next year.

Yes, it’s one political party’s sociopathic lack of empathy and their unrepentant viciousness—but it’s the people we’ve shared Thanksgiving dinner with and served on mission trips alongside, who share their venom and boost their signal.

Yes, it’s Republican politicians’ incessant attacks on LGBTQ people and immigrants and Muslims and the sick and the vulnerable—but it’s the once kind-hearted people we love, who have been so poisoned by partisan talking points and perverted Christian theology that they celebrate all of it.

@118 I voted for Bob Dole in 1996. Unlike Trump, he was a veteran. Like McCain, whom Trump despised, he was a war hero. Unlike most Republicans in Congress today, he was an honorable man. I disagreed with his politics, but I disliked Bill Clinton’s character more. It’s hard today to find any Republican walking, anywhere, whose character is as good (relatively speaking) as Clinton’s. So, Bob Dole probably was the last Republican I’ll ever vote for, no matter how frustrating, annoying, or just plain bad some Democrats might be.

For example, let’s say they nominate Kamala Harris in 2024 or 2028. She has faults (although not as egregious as the dumbfuck makes out), but she doesn’t need help with reading the Constitution, or Al Gore’s permission to certify electoral votes. @110 “I would be quite content with a 10-15% pullback. Planning for it, actually.”

Still watching and waiting? Expecting a “10%-15% pullback”? Why? This has none of the characteristics of a correction. It’s a news-driven dip.

Given that you’re very much smarter than I am, and a far more competent investor and much better informed economist than I am, you certainly know that corrections are invariably associated with recessions, because even I know that.

    So where’s the fucking recession?

It’s a buying dip. I bought last week. And if you aren’t buying yet, you may soon be watching the indexes climb steeply back up when the market realizes (a) Omicron isn’t going to shut down the economy, (b) the government isn’t going to default its debt, and (c) the Federal Reserve isn’t going to jam tapering into the next 3 months and begin raising interest rates in March.

Now granted, Sunday afternoon stock futures don’t mean much, and tomorrow’s news could change things. So this bit of information isn’t especially compelling, but for what it’s worth, right now Dow futures are up 240 points.

Even though it’s only futures trading, and a spot reading, that doesn’t look very much like a market fixing to correct by 10%-15%.

I can’t find any clues of a deep pullback anywhere else, either. Zippo, nada, none. But I suppose we shouldn’t too blithely rule out an asteroid strike. That would fuck up stock valuations.

And you call me a dumbfuck …

  147. 147

    Roger Rabbit spews:

    Sunday, 12/5/21 at 5:54 pm

Biden said he won’t order lockdowns because of Omicron. The reason he won’t is because most of us are vaccinated. That’s a game-changer. Even if Omicron turns out to be a vicious variant (we don’t know that yet), it’ll mostly pick off Republicans, which is not a problem requiring him to resort to drastic solutions.

It’s entirely possible investors believe him. There’s credible reasoning behind it. The logic which follows is basic. No lockdowns = no shutdown = no recession. It’s not that hard to understand why the stock market, instead of treading a steady path lower, is oscillating up and down, depending on what Powell says, what the jobs report and other economic data suggest, and what the daily Omicron news is, and the latter is mostly that it’s spreading but current vaccines and boosters seem to work pretty well against it.

I’ll be very surprised if the dumbfuck genius investor gets his 10%-15% pullback. In my view, it would take a black swan. I’ve already bought, and by saying so, I’m gifting him a target pinned to my back if events prove me wrong, except I’ll accept no responsibility for any black swan that may come along (meteor strike, etc.).

Mebbe we should talk about a “large group of parents“.

Boy shot, CTA bus driver beaten as “large group” of juveniles flood the Loop and Millennium Park

Acting on intelligence gathered through social media and other sources that hundreds of young people planned to gather downtown, CPD leaders deployed extra resources to the area late Saturday afternoon.

Among the more serious incidents: A CTA bus driver was beaten on the 100 block of North Michigan when he stopped his vehicle to inspect it for damage after he heard a loud noise around 8:50 p.m., according to a CPD statement.

As he examined the bus, a male and female began to push him and then punched him repeatedly before running away, police said. An ambulance took the 49-year-old driver to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition with bruises to his face and body.

The attack was caught on video:

And you already know you would see, which is a male and a female started punching him first, before everyone else joined in so they could get their cheap shots on the helpless guy. But it’s Chicago so let’s hurry up and talk about something other than shitty parenting, shall we?

I wonder if Railfan might wish to talk about it, seeing as they kicked the living shit out of a CTA bus driver. Nah. Not if he knows what’s good for him he won’t.

“While the Fed isn’t going to cram tapering in to three months, it is going to cram it in to about six months.”

Which, as you just pointed out, and even quoted the St. Louis Fed to emphasize the point, is its announced policy. Already baked into stock prices. So you’re not going to get your 10%-15% pullback from that source.

So I’ll repeat the question, slightly rephrased: Where is this 10%-15% pullback going to come from? (Asteroids and meteors don’t count.)

Gawd, you’re a stupid fucker. In cross-examination in a courtroom, you’d be oatmeal.

Sometimes life isn’t fair, sometimes it hardly is. Those kids need to be made an example of and be punished harshly, along with some kind of accountability of their parents, on an equitable level. Fine them and all the proceeds go to the bus driver and the shot kid. The celebrate it like we celebrate XMas.

I have no problem with that.

    And now for some levity
Me: Oh wow. this shop has everything my heart desires!
Spooky Shopkeeper: Yes I will warn you. Every item comes with a price!
Me: Yes I know how a shop works.
Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay!
Me: Yes. I know how US taxes work too.
Spooky Shopkeeper, increasing exasperated: I’m trying to tell you that I’m evil and offering these wares with no regard to the harm they will do.
Me: also, increasing exasperated: I know what Capitalism is, goddammit.

142, aren’t replicas supposed to be marked with something that identifies them as a replica?

@152 It’s not the kids’ fault, and the school superintendent said they won’t be disciplined. Not sure how he plans to sanction the parents, though. Turn them over to the prosecutor?

@155 Maybe Doctor Dumbfuck will suggest that he stand in front of a police station and “Fuck around and find out.”

People have been shot for less. Markings or not, those things look much more like real guns than a TV remote control or cellphone does.

Of course, being white dramatically reduces the risk that cops will assume a criminal intent. To them, any white guy with an M-60 is just another patriot conducting election security.

    “Fuck around and find out.”
In context of how the greedy racist incel uses it, it seems to mean “Challenge my tribe in any way, and we will murder you.”

    Whelp.
I guess it’ GAME ONE then.

Bob’s calling for a 10 to 15% drop in the major indexes in the coming days. Roger says it’s a short term buying dip driven by fears of Omicron shutdown.

    We shall see, won’t we.
Yes, we shall see Bob repudiate his claims, shift the time frame indefinitely, and otherwise move the goal posts. Because as we all should know well by now, this led to a triumphant GOP midterm wave in 2018 and “four more years of Trump”.

Previously I claimed that reporting about the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan would “drop below the fold” within a week. I was wrong. It took more like a month. Biden’s confidence numbers certainly fell as a result. But the 2024 general election is still so far off that I remain pretty confident that our troop withdrawal from Afghanistan will not be major factor in shifting wishy-washy, infrequent voters into either turning out, or voting for Trump – the guy who negotiated the withdrawal and established the terms.

Bob, on the other hand, will remain a fundamentally dishonest crybaby troll entirely lacking in character. And none of this is news to anyone. Nevertheless, it will be fun to watch him struggle yet again to to conceal his urine soaked lap behind his notebooks.
