    You misrepresent what I wrote, likely due to your misunderstanding of what happened to health care spending after the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

    The ACA, or Obamacare, was essentially a series of taxes or other forced spending, in exchange for which we were promised health care would “bend the cost curve downward”. We had to buy insurance we did not need or pay a $695 tax (since repealed), we have to pay 3.8% NIIT on dividends and capital gains, and until it was repealed there was a medical device tax. The additional costs were frontloaded over the promised benefits by four years, in order to keep the CBO estimate of the expense below an arbitrarily determined cap.

    Despite all of these new revenue streams health care spending kept right on climbing. There is no downward bending of the cost curve over the last decade. Neither will there be in the coming decade.

    With this history in mind, The Even Bigger Fucking Moron, your claim that higher taxes will result in lower health care spending is a foolish lie. Your claim that there will be a 4-for-1 payback is a bigger lie.

    You make the argument that a teenager might make; someone who heard propaganda over the dinner table and knows no different than to parrot it because it’s the only think he has heard.

    So Manchin, Murkowski, Collins, and Sinema failed.
    Patient colleagues, voters, and leaders stood aside and allowed them to stage their political drama. And in the end they could not sell enough tickets. Their show has closed.

    In that failure we see the perfidy, cowardice, and soaring dishonestly of Republicans laid bare. They would not give votes to support even the most obviously important governmental work if it meant that work would be done by a Democrat.

    Manchin and Sinema now get to go home and answer for it. And in the weeks between now and the end of June they’ll have to come up with better answers. They can’t credibly claim that they can find the votes. They can’t claim the President isn’t doing enough. They can’t claim that compromise is not available. McConnell got everything he originally asked for. And still he and Senate Republicans said no. And they said no as a block, not as individual Senators representing states and constituencies. They said no as loyal Trumpists voting “against Biden”.

    All Manchin and Sinema have accomplished is providing a political fig leaf for a few Republican Senators in blue leaning states. And for all their labors they get dumped by the roadside with their pants around their ankles.

    It’s going to be very hard for those two to produce answers that will preserve their unique positions and their stupid pretenses. They’ll be seen more and more as backers of the Trumpian obstruction or as gullible victims of Trumpist lies. Eventually they’ll be seen by Democrats as simply “Trumpist-lite”. And if they aren’t careful and if they don’t acknowledge the problem, before too long they’ll find themselves all alone, completely surrounded by opponents, including in their home states. Neither can afford that.

    Every single Democrat serving in the US Senate was elected by Democrats, as Democrats including these two. In times like these, there is not a single one of them that can safely transition to any other brand or label.

    I just paid an additional $155 to renew the tabs on my 2016 model vehicle. Added to that $327 extra I paid for my other car, I have been forced to contribute an additional $482 to pay for a rail system I will never live to see completed and will never, ever use.

    That $482 could have been used for something I would like to buy, but has been seized by government to pay for something of no use or value to me. Why can’t the people who want the damn rail system simply pay for what they want and leave the rest of us out of the funding for their pet project?

    You want use fees for other people. That applies to roads also. We would need to install a GPS tolling meter in every vehicle and track it down to the 0.1 mile what roads were were used every day. Send a road fee bill every week.
    Freeways have huge numbers of users, so it’s creation and maintenance are spread across all those users so it’s cheap to drive.
    Major roads would would have higher use costs because the count of vehicles is less.
    Side roads, and rural roads would have very high tolls because a lot of road cost spread across only a few number of drivers. East Wenatchee drivers will be paying a huge amount if they drive to the store.
    But it’s only fair. They use it, they have to pay for it. You and I shouldn’t.

Found this interactive map of current and historical Bay Area systems, and between the two SF operators, streetcars covered most of San Francisco. In Frisco’s case, the usual suspects tried to get the city to rip up the remaining rail routes(including the Cable Cars), but failed. If they went to one man crews earlier than they did, would have seen a few hundred more PCCs ordered to sustain most routes that were converted to buses.     @30 In very broad terms, car drivers already pay for highways through gas taxes. However, when you drill down into the details, this isn’t entirely true and there are significant caveats, so your comment isn’t unfair to Nils and other car lovers.

    Federal gas taxes haven’t been raised in years, and those revenues fall far short of what the federal gov’t spends on highway and bridge repairs and improvements, so taxpayers are supporting the federal contribution to roadbuilding and maintenance through general taxes, and this contribution will grow massively if Biden’s infrastructure bill passes.

    At the state level there’s no way in hell that drivers in rural counties can or do pay for their roads. Where houses are spaced a quarter mile apart and paved highways cost at least $1.5 million per mile, locals will never come close to paying for their roads. Where does the money come from? Seattle drivers. King County is the only Washington County that pays more gas taxes than is spent within the county. Pierce County breaks even. King County drivers pay for the other 37 counties’ roads.

    If Nils lives in King County, he’s got a beef — about paying for eastern Washington’s roads. If he lives in Snohomish County, he may have a beef about paying for light rail, but he’s also a gas tax leech. If he lives in Pierce County, he should ride the goddamn light rail; faster, no traffic congestion, no parking fees and hassles.
