      What it is, is the same mentality that got people lynched for witchcraft.

      Mob psychosis is just psychosis. It is crazy, gullible and uneducated people all playing off each others fears and prejudices in a giant game of Telephone, all trying to “one-up” each other with a crazier retelling with each iteration.

      When I was in 5th grade, one of the quieter girls got her first period, right in class. I think she didn’t notice at first but once it was noticed she split for the rest of the day after going down to the nurse’s office. What went around the school for a couple of weeks after that, was a continuous retelling of the story, each being more outrageously embellished and ever increasingly bizarre with each retelling of the story, nearly all of it amongst the girls. “She got raped” then “She got raped by her dad”, then it got to “she is a slut”, then somehow it got to be “she got caught fucking (someone) in the girls restroom”. People, including a number of her friends were refusing to talk to her and openly talking about her right in front of her making similar accusations. It was all just outright slanderous bullshit.

      It became enough of an issue that the school brought in a Obstetrician to come into the class explain to people what “periods” were, and it became a low-level sex-education course that blew up in the school administrations face when the “Christian” parents found out about it, and decided that the day’s worth of that was the same thing as teaching the children how to be prostitutes and the like. They demanded that the Principal be fired, the school board be forced to resign and the teacher was harassed and threatened in her own damn house with being murdered. People followed her to her house and accused her of trying to turn the girls into whores. She was accused of being “anti-christian” and all sorts of bullshit.

      So what it boils down to is that the Mob rules. There are witches everywhere, and Christians never seem to mature beyond that pre-teenage idiot mentality because they have been taught to “submit to and obey authority” no matter what the costs to their own mental health, even if that “authority” is just the kids next to them, whispering bullshit into their ears at recess.

      This is how people rationalize lynching. Even when it is all based entirely on some rumor, unchecked gossip and outright lies. Because someone wants someone else to believe that they’re important and respectable.

      Rule 11 is real and very much current in federal courts in the US since the SCOTUS approved changes during the Clinton administration. It’s just not the legal hammer you might want it to be in cases like these. The biggest reason being, that while it may be obvious to you and me and anyone with common sense that the plaintiffs have no evidence, they can still claim that some evidence might eventually turn up given enough time. And that (along with basically three other things) is enough to get past the rule.
