    If you guys are so pissed at the Senate for going ahead with Trumps’s nomination to the SCOTUS and the Senate approving this candidate, take a second to think about how the Democrats treated Bork back in 1987. McConnell’s refusal to bring forward Merrick Garland for consideration was revenge for how the Democrats treated Bork and had nothing to do with Garland himself.

    Back in 2016, Obama did what he was supposed to do by nominating Garland for the SCOTUS vacancy cause by the death of Scalia. McConnell got even for Bork then. Now Trump is doing what he’s supposed to do by nominating someone for the vacancy caused by Ginsburg’s death. McConnell is going to go forward with the process because he has already evened the score with the Democrats for the Bork situation.

    If you guys and gals want to be angry at anyone, you have two culprits. The first is the group of Senate Democrats who railroaded Bork in ’87, and the other single person to blame is McConnell for getting his revenge on that same group, albeit 33 years later.

One of them said she was surprised that everyone was there and didn’t really understand that a vote was occurring or what its consequence would be.

    At 9:00 A.M. this morning, members of the Portland Police Bureau’s Rapid Response (RRT) Team were deputized as Federal Marshals. This will allow federal prosecutors to charge allegations of assault on a federal officer to anyone who attacks a deputized Portland Police Bureau Officers.
    “Portland Officers have been serving on the front lines of nightly protests for months, sustaining injuries and encountering unspeakable violence,” stated Superintendent Travis Hampton. “If I am to send them into harm’s way this weekend, on my authority, I’m going to ensure they have all the protections and authority of an OSP Trooper.”
    Along with the Oregon State Police who are also sworn as Federal Officers, this will enable any persons who commit violent acts towards our Law Enforcement Officers to be charged federally. The Oregon State Police and Portland Police will continue to make arrests on state charges. Those cases are then reviewed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and federal prosecutors will determine if any cases warrant federal charges.
    “I want violent individuals thinking about the enhanced penalties they may face if they harm a Portland Police Bureau Officer,” Hampton said.

    And here I want to be extremely clear. Regardless of what you or I may think of the circumstances of this nomination, Barrett is highly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court.

    I disagree with much of her judicial philosophy and expect to disagree with many, maybe even most of her future votes and opinions. Yet despite this disagreement, I know her to be a brilliant and conscientious lawyer who will analyze and decide cases in good faith, applying the jurisprudential principles to which she is committed. Those are the basic criteria for being a good justice. Barrett meets and exceeds them.

    I got to know Barrett more than 20 years ago when we clerked at the Supreme Court during the 1998-99 term. Of the thirty-some clerks that year, all of whom had graduated at the top of their law school classes and done prestigious appellate clerkships before coming to work at the court, Barrett stood out. Measured subjectively and unscientifically by pure legal acumen, she was one of the two strongest lawyers. The other was Jenny Martinez, now dean of the Stanford Law School.

    No. The Constitution only says SC justices and federal judges “shall hold their Offices during Good behavior.” According to scholars, “Historical practice indicates an understanding that the Good Behavior Clause protects federal judges from removal for congressional disagreement with legal or political opinions.”
