    Don’t want to take away any of her vast accomplishments, but Ms. McDaniel holds a BA in English from BYU. I’m not aware of her ever having any additional training in general law and certainly not in con law.

    Nothing is legally unassailable. But if anything comes close it would be NPV. The Republican minority will have their opportunity to file their challenges in federal court and through whatever appeals they can obtain. But perhaps the greatest challenge they face lies in the basic nature of what it is they are challenging.

    NPV does not disturb the US constitution. It addresses state laws only. And it does so through a well established procedure – interstate compacts. These kinds of compacts have a long legal history. They exist in law and precedent as a way for state legislatures to pursue important public interests in each of the member states by coordinating state laws. Generally speaking these are legal and constitutional. And they have only ever been found to run afoul of federal laws when they have sought to constrain or limit interstate commerce. That is not the case here, of course.

    So the “chair” is therefore not speaking here as a scholar or knowledgeable practitioner. She is speaking to a mob of extremist partisans as a demagogue and an apologist. And in truth that is the role that the leader of the Republican Party, president RapeHero, demands of those he sees as his employees – to lash out, to deflect responsibility, and to stoke fear. In this case it is the certain and well founded fear among all Republicans and conservatives that without the state winner-take-all laws they would never be able to win another national election.

    Really can’t happen too soon. And it’s long past time for all Democrats to recognize how important that is. Republicans obviously have. And they’re scared shitless.

    And as for Sen. Cruz’s comments, as a politician with a limited albeit successful professional history in arguing cases at appeal having constitutional import, he’s showing his hand. Con law advocates arguing against state laws on these grounds never say the laws are “probably unconstitutional”. They say they are unconstitutional. And then they go on to argue why.

    He’s extremely protective of his self-created image as a con law warrior for conservatives. In refusing to get out in front of an major issue like this he’s clearly communicating his credible fears that doing so might jeopardize that image. So he goes along with the panel of demagogues in the least meaningful way he can.

    Pharma companies have been shifting manufacturing to China, India and other countries to take advantage of cheap labor and materials. The article I read stated that 80% of the ingredients used in the U.S. medicines are made abroad, according to federal figures.

    China is also the top exporter of medical devices and equipment in the U.S.

    China First! Make China Great Again! This Trade War with China is all bullshit.

    You would think that this Country would bring back all the manufacturing, providing jobs with decent wages, to solve all it’s problems, especially if any of the politicians (and people that pretend to criticize and single out one pol the for not doing enough – like Bob and the rest) want to do anything for the Black community.

    You can’t pretend that you have all the polices and promises that will get everyone everything and yet not have an economy. Capitalists and greed in the stock market have ruined this Country. The solution isn’t to make the billionaires pay for this shortcoming with higher taxes. The solution is to bring back manufacturing to this country, with decent wages (cut into the profits and corporate greed) and make individuals pay for it themselves.

    For reference, the new coronavirus was isolated as the cause of the cluster of pneumonia cases in the Wuhan province on January 7. Trump declared a public health emergency on January 31.

    It took Obama 6 months to react to H1N1, which had its origin in Mexico, on our southern border.

    2016 split between Democratic moderate voters and Democratic progressive voters looks very similar to 2020 so far.

    Prior to SC moderates have been divided and uncommitted. Still are to some extent. Progressives have coalesced somewhat around Sanders. But Warren’s share holds up so far. In terms of raw numbers Sanders/Warren/progressive are about the same as 2016. As are moderate numbers. It just appears Sanders is a “front runner” when so much of the rest of the vote is split. Remember even after Tuesday two thirds of available delegates will remain to be awarded.

    But what ought to be noticed in the early stages of an event like that is that a single staffer has tested positive early on. Chances are this person is your vector at that facility. And don’t be surprised if they had to come to work because they didn’t have enough sick leave (part time, too new, etc.). The situation doesn’t improve as more residents and staff become ill.
