Requires a two thirds vote from the Senate. That’s twenty Trumpublicans voting to make a public admission of corruption and wrong doing.
Won’t happen. It’s up to the voters to end the republican party for the good of the nation.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
11,
comes down then to optics.
The Trumpublican Party would prefer to operate the Senate impeachment trial as a show trial, but instead of putting the president on trial, they want to put House Democrats on trial. That’s what all the House Trumpublican process posturing is all about. That may not be as easy to do as they might like. Since the presiding officer will be Chief Justice Roberts, who wants nothing to do with president peepee’s sad legacy, and who hopes to accomplish a few “great things” in the current term.
But they’ll do the best they can, despite a few adverse rulings from the bench. At the end of it they want to make a big splashy showing of TOTAL EXONERATION!!!! and run a series of media victory laps. That also may not be as easy as it once might have been. It’ll be very difficult for blue state Trumpublican Senators to take that vote and still protect their re-election. Yertle may have to let a few of them go. Maybe quite a few. Already Collins, Murkowski, Romney, and Gardiner are stepping away. If a numerical majority of the Senate votes to convict, but falls short of the two-thirds required, it will look very bad.
And if that happens, some Trumpublicans led by the White House will turn on them, urging primary challenges, calling them RINOs and FAKE REPUBLICANS, etc. and essentially weakening them going into the election. Also looks very bad.
Optically, the Trumpublicans options are not good and they are getting worse each day as more of the GOP crime iceberg becomes visible.

That’s what I was thinking a few days ago. Turtle will take a count, and if he has enough to preserve criminality in the White House, release a few of his members who are on the endangered species list. That’s pretty routine practice on Capitol Hill when touchy votes come up.
But it all comes down to public opinion. If Democrats sell their case* in open House hearings, and the public turns against Trump in a big way, then Senate Republicans will pivot to saving their own asses. This is entirely plausible. em>Republican insiders tell us there are only 7 or 8 GOP senators who will stick with Trump no matter what; and about three dozen who privately want the Trump albatross off their necks. Moreover, Pence is far more in sync with their ideology and policy goals than Trump is. I think this is a weak-dam scenario; it’s holding back the water for now, but if it breaks, the flood will come in a rush.** And earlier this month a former Trump exec told a journalist she believes Trump will resign rather than face the humiliation of a Senate trial.***

So remember in the 70s when Arthur Laffer started taking a bunch of lightly regarded and/or debunked economic theories and coalesced them into a single premise?
Then remember how Reagan enacted it in the 80s and actual economists not Laffer cultits said, “That’s going to explode the Federal Deficit.” and the GOP and the Laffer cultists said, “No, No, NO this will work.”
And it didn’t work and the deficit exploded?
Then remember how Bush Jr. Tried it again and said, “No, No, No THIS time it will really work because on top of growing revenue through tax cuts we’re going to put a war and a prescription drug program on the deficit because the rising revenue from tax cuts will pay for it. Eventually. Maybe 30 years out.” And responsible economists said, “No this will lead to higher deficits and possibly a deep recession.”
And then a deep recession happened?
And remember how they tried the Laffer model in every way in Kansas and reasonable economists warned of dire consequences to the state economy that would then be a drag on the social safety net system and Republican Governor and State Legislatures said, “No, No , NO we have research from Laffer. This will work.”
And then the state budget in Kansas exploded due to huge shortfall in revenue to spending so Kansas cut the budget nine times and still had a shortfall and their state’s economy was dead last in job creation in the midwest while other states were coming out of recession?
And then remember how Donald, a pretend Laffer cultist who just cheats on his taxes anyway and the Laffer cultists in the GOP House and Senate passed a massive corporate tax cut and said, “No no no, we’ll be fine. EVERYONE knows tax breaks generate more revenue.” And sensible economists said, “You’ve tried that and failed many times now. It doesn’t work. It will explode the deficit.” And Congress’ own non-partisan research said, “This plan will explode the deficit.” But the Laffer Cultists put it in place anyway.
And then Donald gave Arthur Laffer the Presidential Medal of Freedom?
Good Times!
26% deficit increase in a single fiscal year? Without creative accounting the $984B deficit is more like $1T and will definitely be $1T in Fiscal Year 2021 just like the sensible economists said. That sounds like kind of a lot.

Republicans are assholes generally:
O.K. I’m making an assumption but you’ll see why.
So last night I’m meeting someone at a somewhat rural suburban brewery. Took me a lot less time to get there than anticipated so I’m 20 minutes early. There’s two empty stools at the bar. but they’re shoved together with really not enough space. I ask the two guys, young beardy and white haired squat 200lb 60s, if anyone is sitting there. Young beardy says no, white haired squat says nothing but scoots his chair over closer to the empty stool so I pull one of them out and put it out of the way and sit down to watch a little World Series, order a beer and wait.
White squat has a coaster over his beer in the “I haven’t left I just went to the loo” fashion and proceeds to move it for each sip and then put it back. this has nothing to do with nothing it was just odd.
After a few minutes White Squat gets up to head toward the bathroom but on the way I see him tear something off the shelf of free newspapers and real estate brochures under the community board and throw it on the ground before stepping on it. Again odd.
While he’s gone my friend arrives and not having enough room for two I get up and we plan to put our name in for a table but friend leans in to order a beer while we wait. At this point White Squat comes back and as my friend is slightly impeding his stool he pushes him (nudged really) out of the way wordlessly. Now I’ve heard him speak to the bartender so I know he’s not a mute. He just glares at my friend when he says sarcastically, “Oh I’m sorry was I a little bit in your way, sir?”
How do I know he’s a Republican? Well I also headed to the bathroom shortly after and the thing he tossed on the floor and stepped on is the lower third ad off one of ‘The Stranger”s for Sawant.
The mere image of someone who I assume he can’t vote against because he lives in a semi-rural suburb so fills him with rage that in a fit a pique he must tear it asunder so no one else might walk by and ignore it or see it at all and then step on it for good measure.
What a fucking asshole.

The inflation of the late Seventies and early Eighties was quelled by Paul Volker and the Federal Reserve actually doing the correct thing for monetary policy for once. As for whether it was the “right” thing to do, that would be true only if was the only and necessary way to wring double-digit inflation out of the economy, but not everyone is convinced that was the case. What is clear, though, is that David Stockman’s supply-side theories, on which Reagan’s economic policies were based, was “voodoo” and Stockman himself said so. Supply-side isn’t total b.s. — the supply side of the economy can indeed break down for various reasons — but basing economic theory solely on supply-side mechanics and arbitrarily prescribing supply-side remedies for every economic ailment is like prescribing the same pill for every medical condition: The real world doesn’t work that way. And everyone understands that Republican supply-siders aren’t high-IQ economic policy wonks, they’re just selfish and greedy people angling for an excuse to cut their own taxes at the expense of public services and the less fortunate. Trump is claiming U.S. forces (actually, a joint U.S.-Kurdish operation, according to some sources) killed the ISIS leader al-Baghdadi. If true, it’s a big deal, because it goes a long way to decapitate ISIS, as this guy was not only the political but also the spiritual leader. Of course, anything Trump says is suspect, but the media is accepting it at face value and this likely is the real deal.

2020 candidate Sen. Kamala Harris had refused to attend a criminal justice forum in protest of an award it was giving to Pres. Trump for criminal justice reform. But she spoke there today and explained what changed her mind.
12:11 PM – 26 Oct 2019
It wasn’t just Trump. Booker and Van Jones (BET link, above) called her out for her cowardice.
Taking to Twitter, Jones agreed with Cory Booker that attending the event wouldn’t allow Trump to be the only voice being heard about criminal justice and condemned anyone for “running away from a conversation.”
“I will be there, too, @CoryBooker… Running away from a conversation has never solved anything,” Jones tweeted. “Some people will abandon a microphone because they don’t like the person who touched it last. Others are smart enough to grab that microphone and make sure THEY get the last word.”

@73 “Dismissed with prejudice.”
That’s not what it says. It says “without prejudice.” The dismissal “with prejudice” only applies to OIG, i.e. releases one of the parties from any future action. McCabe can refile against the other defendants, i.e. “U.S. Department of Justice” and “et al.” This type of dismissal is merely a commonplace tactical litigation maneuver, not the pervading victory for the Trump administration you think it is.
The order is only half a page long, including the signatures, so you couldn’t possibly have missed that in the fine print. It’s now been conclusively established that you don’t even read the stuff you link to when you post shit. Also, when your only comeback is “STFU,” you’ve got nothing, which is another sign of youthful inexperience and/or immaturity.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Maybe this is why we’re not hearing from the Democrats yet:

That’s pretty rich coming form you, Roger. Remember your story about a single Air Force C-130 supposedly airlifting 360,000 pounds of US currency from an East Coast base to Baghdad? Yeah, that was a good one for showing off your ignorance and elitist attitude.
Folks, a C-130 can carry a maximum cabin load of 25,000 pounds. This limits flying time, however, since pounds of fuel also must be taken into account. Based on my experience as an Air Force pilot and having worked in C-10 operations a lot, one aircraft would normally carry a cargo load of around 15,000 pounds as a rule because of weight limitations for the airframe. That would mean over twenty sorties to move the amount of cargo we’re talking about here.
But Roger, ever the pompous ass, read some stupid article in some East Coast magazine for fruits and decreed that GWB’s administration had shipped 369,000 pounds of currency to Iraq in a single C-130. He didn’t bother to check his facts, and I got to publicly humiliate him for his arrogance and lack of education. It was grand!
BTW, IF the Air Force had been tasked with this mission, they would have used 2 C-5s or 3 C-17s to do the job. Most likely aerial refueling would have been involved, probably using a refueling track off of the Northeast Coast of Maine, followed by another aerial refueling over the UK via some sort of an altitude block reservation with the Ministry of Defense in the UK. The missions would have probably flown on to Sigonella NAS in Sicily, where crews would swap out for fresh people, thence on to Baghdad for offload.
The point if it did indeed happen, the C-130 would not have been used. Roger got it entirely wrong because he didn’t check the facts. Now he’s criticizing someone else for not fact checking. What a fucking hypocrite you, Roger!

No, I don’t remember that one. Maybe you could refresh my recollection, and also prove you’re accurately quoting me, by provide a link to it. For the record, a C-130’s standard payload capacity is 36,500 lbs. and maximum payload is 42,000 lbs.

And for the record, a $100 bill weighs 9.83 grams, so $12 billion in $100s would weigh approximately 2.6 million lbs., not counting the pallets and wrapping, and $14 billion obviously would weigh even more.
