investigations are irrelevant.
The package of infrastructure projects was already worked out three weeks ago. Mick Mulvaney was unable to secure Senate GOP agreements for the funding. That’s why when president sundowner put on his little show there was podium signage already in place to distract the stupid media from the truth.
Republicans cant get anything done anymore. Those days are long gone. With only identity and resentment, and without political ideology it’s impossible for Republicans to summon the energy and motivation to move legislation.
This really is “the status quo” for Republicans now.

“Where this lack of new ideas is most obvious is in the realm of politics. The vast Democratic field, which is up to 22 now, is interesting for the sole reason that it is the wildly boring cast of characters. The front-runners are two near-dead geezers who sound like museum exhibits on the 1970’s. The rest remind everyone of the people you meet at a corporate retreat. They are studies in blandness. The primary is going to be a beauty contest without a talent competition, because no one has any talent.”

Recently you… sorry, Teh Dumbfuck… posted the following list of “accomplishments” intended to describe why he supports the Nationalist Revolution of Trumpism and its agenda:
“And then there’s a 7,000 point increase in the DJIA since 11/9/16.
And then there’s inflation under control.
And then there’s job creation.
And then there’s tax cuts.
And then there’s Gorsuch. And Kavanaugh. And the prospect of RBG going tits up in the next year or so.
And all of those federal judges confirmed, plus those in the pipeline.
Plus Goldman Sachs’ assessment that Trump is likely to win re-election.”
So there’s the remarkable accomplishment of slowing the rate of market growth achieved by your predecessor.
Followed by a not at all surprising agreement on the part of Republicans to stop screaming about the danger of inflation that never materialized they engaged in under that same predecessor.
Another brag about slowing down an economic growth indicator.
Billionaire tax cuts.
Federal judges.
Crystal ball poll gazing by some other billionaires.
As far as an ideological agenda about the only things that come through are tax cuts and judges. Right? I mean, we’ve been over this before. You know we have. As far as the White “Working Class” Male voters in your key battleground states are concerned, the tax cut is a bust and the judges have been at best a mixed bag. Government spending continues to rise. Government employment continues to grow. The Sec of State and the National Security Adviser are staying busy canceling every mutual security treaty and trying to start wars in Iran, North Korea, Central Africa, and Venezuela. The Sec of Commerce is recklessly advancing a crippling trade war with our largest trading partner. And the Sec. of Homeland Security was fired for not building Rape Cages fast enough. I can continue to buy an abortion on the internet for about $5. Gays are married in all 50 US states. The operations of the federal government agencies under your guidance are more corrupt and inefficient than they have ever been since the Harding administration ($15,000 desk?).
As far as any non-aligned, non-partisan looking on is likely to observe, your ideological agenda is limited to those tax cuts for giant corporations, and the judges who serve them. And that’s it. You are not Tea Party Patriots (you never were). You don’t care about deficits or smaller government (you never did). You have no plan to deliver access to affordable health care (you never did). You have no plan to restore the middle class (you never did). And your foreign policy agenda consists of more war in all its various forms.
I’ll certainly admit, it isn’t bland.
It’s insane.

@3 Manufacturing isn’t the only thing that fell in April; so did housing sales and durable goods orders. The evidence of a slowing economy is clear and unmistakable, and has been for months.
I’m not sure what you mean by “pullout,” though. I advise against market timing strategies, for the simple reason that no one can successfully time markets or individual stocks. Trying to base a timing strategy on analysis doesn’t work, because the market is unpredictable and often irrational.
It should also be noted that the correlation between the economy and stock market is very weak, so you can’t base stock investing strategy on what the economy is doing. The only dependable thing in that respect is that recessions and major corrections usually go together.
Most of the economic analysis I’m reading now projects that 2019 full-year GDP growth will drop below the post-2009 trendline of 2.1%, to maybe 1.5%, but hardly anyone expects a recession before 2020 or 2021, and some economists think the economy could continue to plod along in slow-growth mode for years to come.
This argues against dumping stocks based on an expectation that the economy and stock market are going to tank in the near future. I think that won’t happen and is a wrong approach to investing in any event.
In recent years, Federal Reserve policy has been the major influence on the stock market, and as long as the Fed remains market-friendly, as it is now, a major selloff of stocks in the absence of a recession seems unlikely.
What we’re seeing is trade-related volatility within a band of about 2%-3%, but I think the market has a firm floor under it, which argues against a strategy of jumping in and out of the market — I would contend that’s never a good strategy, based on studies showing that the highest returns over time result from buying quality stocks and holding onto them through the market’s ups and downs. A strategy of steadily accumulating good stocks by buying them on dips probably is a good way to go right now.

The unique capacity of these people to organize themselves is only surpassed by their remarkably small numbers (and penises).
There is no Democratic candidate or campaign that would ever be able to appeal to such people. Nor should we care. The fewer than half of them who bother to vote are not enough to fill a division II basketball arena. The era of global internet media creates a false perception of their number and their influence owing to the preoccupation by marketers and advertisers with cracking the millennial cynicism code, the nature of self-affiliation in social network platforms, and their reliance on bots and other forms of sock-puppeteering. Being predominantly gamers, they see politics as a game, with weak rules and loose boundaries that they can easily transgress. That helped them play a pivotal role in planting the seeds of GOP destruction. But considering who and what the GOP had become, that doesn’t really say much.

These are the sad, beta-cuck culture warriors who beat each other up while shouting the names of breakfast cereal in order to push down their overwhelming feelings of loneliness and despair. They saw Fight Club in seventh grade and built a life plan around it.
Surfacing briefly during 2016 to 2017 to be seen and identified, most have lost their jobs, lost their friends, crawled back into mom’s basement, or gone to prison. A few pushed beyond and have joined broken freaks like Andrew Anglin in actual traditional white supremacist cults like VDare, StormFront, and Aryan Nations. But the leaders have all lawyered up and gone into hiding. Even RooshV has had a drug fueled epiphany and quit the movement.
Some of them do actually vote sometimes. Almost every one of them voted for Trump. But mostly that was motivated by racism and lulz about “owning the Libs”. More than a few of them probably helped The Trolls from Olgino, albeit anonymously using TOR. They proved that stupid people are very vulnerable to these kinds of efforts. And in so doing, they probably managed to destroy the Republican Party. But the Republican Party had come to depend on stupid people in the last thirty years. So in a sense, they did it to themselves.

Conservatives love to take cheap shots at liberal arts degrees, but they’re dead wrong about this. A liberal arts degree is valuable — sometimes invaluable — on many levels and for many things.
https://tinyurl.com/y3rle26x
Many prominent CEOs, e.g. Starbucks’ Howard Schultz — have liberal arts degrees. Meredith Whitney was a history major, and she saw what most other Wall Street analysts missed.
It doesn’t always work, though. Trump has a liberal arts degree (B.S. in economics), although knowing him, most likely he got it by cheating and didn’t learn anything. He evidently never took a 7th grade civics class, either, because he doesn’t know a damn thing about the structure and workings of our government — he doesn’t even understand that you’re supposed to obey subpoenas and court orders. But one failure out of millions of degrees doesn’t invalidate the rest of those degrees.
Liberal arts graduates make invaluable contributions to our economy and society every day. Trump simply isn’t one of them. He’s an outlier. That’s not the degree’s fault, that’s his fault, there’s no other way to put it.
Show me a guy who took nothing but engineering classes in college, and I’ll show you a guy I’d put in charge of a factory, but not in charge of a government. Those slide rule boys can land on the moon, but they don’t know a goddamned thing about anything else.

Why do you bother to talk to these trolls? You will never change their minds…
YLB asked me once, when she was in a fit of despair over what was about to happen in November, 2014, why I spend time here. Her context was that she would prefer the echo chamber that usually exists when counter-arguments are not made and defended by people with the ability to do more than cheer-lead for a chosen side. She wanted desperately to feel safe.
To not engage the other side is a clear demonstration of weakness, and YLB is nothing if not weak.
There are two basic reasons I spend time here:
1. Conservatives too often are just as unwilling to change their minds when a situation clearly calls for a reassessment. I’m no better off speaking with them than arguing with those dug in on leftist principles in these parts.
2. Every so often people around here have a point. If nothing else I have been forced to sharpen my argument on a fairly regular basis.
YLB’s unwillingness to venture out beyond the safety of Goldy’s shadow is weakness, and I am not a weak person.
I’m not afraid to hear what the other side thinks. I’m not afraid to tell it what I think. Pretty much by definition I need the other side for that.
Oh. I almost forgot. Make that three reasons.
3. Monte Carlo analyses and all of the hoopla surrounding them. It’s a quadrennial thing around here and if you were not visiting in 2016, you need to be here in 2020 to experience it.

CHRIS HAYES: Thinking today and observing Memorial Day, that’ll be happening tomorrow. Just talked with Lt. Col. Steve Burke, who was a casualty officer with the Marines and had to tell people [inaudible]. Um, I, I, ah, [Steve] Beck, sorry, um, I think it’s interesting because I think it is very difficult to talk about the war dead and the fallen without invoking valor, without invoking the words “heroes.” Um, and, ah, ah, why do I feel so comfortable [sic] about the word “hero”? I feel comfortable, ah, uncomfortable, about the word because it seems to me that it is so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war. Um, and, I don’t want to obviously desecrate or disrespect memory of anyone that’s fallen, and obviously there are individual circumstances in which there is genuine, tremendous heroism: hail of gunfire, rescuing fellow soldiers and things like that. But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic.
Keep that in mind next time that spineless pussy YLB glorifies “HA Heroes”, a term for which she includes herself. There’s no greater misunderstanding of the word. Certainly there is no greater abuse of the word.
Roger Rabbit spews:
From Seattle Times daily brief:
“Demand is hot for low-wage workers in the Seattle area. Businesses that rely on these workers can’t keep jobs filled, with about 24,000 positions open in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Employers are boosting wages and dangling incentives. But that won’t solve everything. The real story behind the low-tech labor shortage: the housing market.”
Doctor Dumbfuck, our resident free-market expert, will now explain how employers can fill jobs in a town where the cost of living is 48.8% higher than the national average, the median household income is $100,630, and the average house price is $655,000 (2018 figures).

I’ve never been a hero. Most of us haven’t.
It’s why it’s so laughably pathetic that YLB coined the term “HA Heroes” and has applied it to anyone who is liberal and comments on HA.
Getting drafted and sent to ‘Nam isn’t, by itself, heroic, either. Supporting the military isn’t heroic, for that matter.
In the same way that your overuse of the term “Nazi” to describe anyone with whom you disagree has rendered the term meaningless, overuse of the term “hero” onHA has rendered it useless, Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit. YLB is directly and pretty much solely responsible for that.
Steve’s no hero but from time to time he makes me up my game, and because I respond with a higher level of argument at his prompting I likely have his grudging respect. He acknowledges his occasional shortcomings when I call him out for them and for that he has my respect. Neither of us are heroes but we have mutual respect.

@52 I wasn’t drafted. I enlisted at a time when fathers were being drafted. I failed my enlistment physical — I could have walked out of that building with a 4-F draft classification — but I talked them into taking me anyway. Because I did that, somewhere in this country a young father got to stay home with his kids. Does that make me a hero? No, it makes me an American who did what millions of Americans before me did, I served my country when it went to war. Nothing out of the ordinary about that, but it’s a lot more than Trump did.
You haven’t answered my question: What was your service?
If you have none, then I don’t care what you think of my service. I’m a Vietnam veteran, and I don’t need “respect” from people who didn’t serve. It’s enough to have earned the respect of the people whose opinion matters — my fellow veterans.
This is Memorial Day. Here’s to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, including two families I know, one of whom got a medal on a pretty blue ribbon in exchange for their son, who willingly sacrificed his life to save his buddies, and the other whose son is still MIA somewhere in Vietnam, last seen wounded and being led away by his enemy captors in the midst of a raging battle.

And, now @ 69 I respect Steve a bit less.
gman is an embarrassment to the human species. Very much to his parents.
But especially to GLAAD.
Steve spews:
“In the same way that your overuse of the term “Nazi” to describe anyone with whom you disagree”
“Liberal-Fascism”. You know, fascism, like Nazi Germany. On right wing sites, they’ve been calling the left Nazis for a long time. Anybody who opposed invading the wrong country was labeled a “traitor”. Apparently the left are still treasonous. If the left opposed Gitmo torture or didn’t hate all Muslims, it’s said that they love Jihad. Of course the left has long been “commies”, and don’t forget “socialists”.
What can I say, Doctor, as one just left of center, other than confess to being a liberal, commie-fascist, Jihad-loving, socialist, Nazi fucking traitor who first came to HA to spread the word that Republicans fuck goats, which is now common knowledge, by the way.
From my perspective, what you’re complaining about is something the left might call payback, Doctor. It probably won’t lead us to civil discourse, but it’s a lot of fun.
Roger Rabbit spews:
No, liberals (i.e., normal people) aren’t the same as the far right.

Meanwhile, at least two dumbasses in this country think it’s “treason” for FBI agents to investigate Russian subversion of our democracy.

I can remember when most Americans thought a candidate who took help from Russia or China instead of reporting it to the FBI was a traitor. Hollywood even made a movie about it called “The Manchurian Candidate.”
GOP = Party of Traitors
Trump's weird little penis spews:
The Based Proud Boy who blew away those Alabama cops Saturday night is so TRUMP he named one of his sons Barron.

WTF!? spews:
@69 sorry Steve to ruin that moment for you. Bu look on the bright side I think I saved you from being seconds away from Bob packing your fudge
WTF!? spews:
@72. Love you too Bob. It my parents would most defiantly not like you.
WTF!? spews:
@73 Steve you Commy!
Roger Rabbit spews:
@76 Yep, this cop-killer and trailer park denizen is one of Trump’s “fine people”:
“In social media posts and pictures, Wilkes … shared pro-Trump posts and memes. Other posts suggested Wilkes held a far-right political ideology, anti-Muslim views, and an affinity for 4chan, an online image board known as a haven for internet trolls and racist, extremist content.”

Again, my hero.
@79 “Steve you Commy!”
Commie-fascist, at the very least.

69,
Boob’s hero is Duncan Hunter.
Used campaign funds to buy coke and hire hookers.
Then blames his wife. Noyce!
Now bragging that as a Marine on deployment he murdered children and posed with their corpses.
This really is “the status quo” for Republicans now.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
Speaking of Republican status quo…
@80,
Wilkes isn’t “far right” or “extremist” in any way.
His racism, his violence, and his hostility to law enforcement put him squarely in the main of modern Republican “ideology” under their president. It’s who they really are.
Steve spews:
I’ve been saying for years that the GOP base wants to be ruled with Putin’s iron fist up their ass. While they may have wanted Putin, they’ll take the stooge.
“Howard Stern says Trump wants to rule ‘with an iron fist’ — shouting ‘off with their head’”

Speaking of Boob’s heroes, somebody threw a beer at Trump at the Indianapolis NRA. He’s okay. Not even touched. Totally dodged it.
It was a draft.
EvergreenRailfan spews:
61)In WWII, Mexicans actually came to the US to enlist in the US military. One case, someone who might be called an illegal today, got a draft notice, and went anyway when informed of his immigration status. For heroism above and beyond the call of duty, he earned the Medal of Honor.

@godwinha spews:
@ 86
Where’s your evidence that Mexicans came to the US to enlist?
The article you link to highlights a guy who didn’t find out until he was 27 that he was not US-born. Also, that his mother fucked around and that dad wasn’t who he thought dad was, but I digress.
Nowadays, Herrera would be what’s called a DREAMer, or a person brought to the United States illegally by their parents when they were young.
That’s not the same as what you claim, Railfan.
His military service wasn’t voluntary, either.
The day the draft notice came, Silvestre S. Herrera learned for the first time that he was not a US citizen.
