Melania doubles down on not caring.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/melania-trump-jacket-i-really-dont-care-do-u-raises-eyebrows-for-edgy-message/
Rober Rabbit Commentary: At first glance, not caring may seem easy, the lazy person’s way out, but in reality unless you’re a brain-dead zombie (which arguably she is) it’s hard work and emotionally draining to not care about babies and toddlers crying for their mothers. For most normal people, if they saw a child wander into a busy street, it would be easier to dash in front of an oncoming care and snatch the child out of harm’s way, risking life and limb, than to stand on the curb and doing nothing. So give credit where it’s due: Republicans work hard at being assholes.
Roger Rabbit spews:
The Republican argument goes something like this: Separating children is an unavoidable byproduct of prosecuting their parents for crossing the border illegally.
It isn’t true.
” … [T]here’s an alternative approach that’s cheaper, more humane and incredibly effective. The Trump administration just doesn’t want to use it.
“The Family Case Management Program, which … Trump ended … after taking office, was meant to keep track of immigrant parents and kids in removal proceedings without having to keep them locked up.
“It was relatively small ― about 950 families in five locations. But it was hugely successful: More than 99 percent of families in the program showed up for their court dates, and 97 percent participated in required check-ins with their case managers, according to a report from Geo Care, the private prison company that operated the program. And it reportedly cost the government just $36 per family each day, versus $319 per bed per day in a family detention center. …
“It was a success …, according to experts who served on an advisory committee for the program. … [But] ICE abruptly shut down the program last June with little explanation ….”
The reason appears to be that the Trump administration is fixated on only one statistic and outcome: Removals. Their problem with the FCM program seems to be that, under it, some of the immigrants got to stay.

Hegar is joining an already crowded field of Democrats who have filed to challenge Carter, including fellow veteran Kent Lester; Dr. Christine Eady Mann, a family physician in Cedar Park; and Mike Clark, who first challenged Carter in 2016. Hegar said she believes she has a “better chance to beat Carter than they do” — she cited her record, as well as her fundraising ability — “but I hope they continue to stay engaged.”

Katie Arrington, who ousted Rep. Mark Sanford in primary, seriously injured in car crash
Her office said that she suffered a fracture in her back, several broken ribs and other injuries that required surgery including the removal of part of her small intestine and a portion of her colon.
“Additionally, the main artery in her legs has a partial collapse and will require a stent,” the statement said. “Additional surgeries will be required including one likely today; and it is likely that Katie will remain hospitalized for the next two weeks.”

@godwinha spews:
@ 24
What happened to that?
Strzok, Comey, and McCabe happened to that.
Trump has no obligation to lead with his chin.
Roger Rabbit spews:
On a solemn note …
Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) is one of the few Republicans who’s had the gonads to criticize Trump for his lies, Muslim ban, and immigration policy. Ever since South Carolina’s June 12 primary, Trump has gloated about Sanford’s defeat by Katie Arrington, a more loyal Trump supporter.
Arrington was nearly killed in a car wreck last night. She was a passenger in a car struck by a wrong-way driver, and according to her campaign, “suffered a fracture to her back, broken ribs, and a partial collapse of the main artery in her legs” and “will have to undergo ‘major surgery’ to remove a portion of her small intestine and a portion of her colon, and will require a stint (sic) in the main artery in her legs.”
Her Democratic opponent suspended his campaign activities “until further notice” this morning “out of respect” and offered prayers for Arrington’s recovery. Sanford also offered “thoughts and prayers.”
The driver of Arrington’s car also suffered serious injuries. The wrong-way driver was killed.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/23/politics/south-carolina-candidate-katie-arrington-car-accident/index.html
Roger Rabbit Commentary: All of us here at HA send our best wishes to Arrington and her family. Whatever our political differences may be, no one wants something like this to happen. It’s too soon to speculate about the impact on that race, but obviously there’s now a possibility the Republican candidate will be replaced by someone else, and I’m guessing that likely would be Sanford if the position is filled by the local GOP organization by appointment.
Roger Rabbit spews:
It’s an article of faith in circuses, theaters, athletics, and just about everywhere that “the show must go on.”
Trump doesn’t respect that convention, either.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/22/politics/white-house-congressional-picnic-steaks/index.html
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Trump fans thinks it’s great that Trump breaks all the rules. But rules, conventions, and traditions exist because they serve useful, even essential, purposes; and breaking them usually is destructive.
Katie Arrington is in a hospital bed fighting for her life this morning because someone violated the convention of which side of the highway you’re supposed to drive on (and I’m guessing he probably was driving drunk, too).
Trump’s contempt for conventions and norms has the potential to break a lot more than bones. A congressional picnic may seem like no big deal to him, but it’s part of the glue that holds the fabric of the republic together. They represent a pause of partisanship and are an occasion for renewing civility. That’s not unimportant in contentious times like these. That’s why every president since 1945 has put on these bipartisan gatherings. Until now.
It’s just more evidence of the unthinking tone deafness of the White House occupant.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: I remember a time when America’s heroes were soldiers who risked their lives for their buddies on battlefields, firefighters who saved babies from burning peoples, farmers who got up at 5 am to milk the cows, people who bootstrapped themselves up into the professions and successful business careers, kids who fought cancer with courage, winning racehorses, etc.
Now, for the right at least, it’s school dropouts who know nothing about history, civics, economics, foreign affairs, or anything else and can’t even separate fact from fiction who shout that all the world’s problems can be solved simply by demonizing “liberals.”
Trump is right about one thing: America is no longer great. I doubt you are going to suggest there is a better way, but that this is good public policy, Which means this whole separation of children in this one law enforcement endeavor is somehow different. It is not. The policy may actually discourage immigrants bringing their children over the border, endangering them, and exposing them, and corrupting them.

They believed Obama was a Muslim terrorist born in Kenya and indoctrinated in Indonesia. They believed Hillary ran a child sex slave ring from a pizza parlor. And they believe, without exception, that Donald Trump will “make America great again.”
With demographics like this, Adolf Hitler would get the same approval rating as Mother Teresa, if he had an “R” after his name and she had a “D” after hers.
So, doc, what is your point? All I see is a dumbfuck bragging about the GOP’s success at recruiting morons and how many stupid Republican voters we’re stuck with as a result.
Roger Rabbit spews:
My general impression of Republican voters is that most of them are gullible and stupid, and more than a few of them are racist, bigoted, and venal.

So, doc, what is your point?
They’re the ‘likely voters’.
Hillary’s ‘basket of deplorables’? They’re the ones who vote.
When your GOTV fails in November, come back to this exchange, Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit. It’ll save you some introspection.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@71 And, as I’ve already pointed out, there are enough Republican dumbfucks to make the numbers the polls are showing. Possibly even enough to keep Congress in GOP hands this fall and re-elect Trump in 2020. Which proves what, America has become a nation of dumbfucks? And you think that’s cause for celebration? Of course you would, you’re a dumbfuck.

Now Trump wants summary deportations “without courts or judges.”
https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/24/politics/ron-johnson-immigration-cnntv/index.html
Roger Rabbit Commentary: I guess you can’t expect a former real estate developer and reality TV personality to see the problem with this. That’s why the president has legal advisers. Where are they when they’re needed?
Border jumpers aren’t the issue here. You can argue border jumpers aren’t entitled to much due process, or any at all, and I won’t necessarily disagree with you.
The problem is the same as it was with torture. I really didn’t care what Dubya and his minions did with the bastards responsible for 9/11. They could have burned them at the stake for all I cared, and I wouldn’t have said a thing, as long as they toasted the actual guilty parties. (But if they did it to an innocent person, they would hang for it, that was the deal I offered them at the time.)
The issue arises from the fact that dragnets, by their very nature, scoop up innocent people. This happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it happens when the Border Patrol stops motorists or conducts workplace sweeps here in the USA. When you start conducting dragnets and then treat the detainees as presumptive criminals without any judicial oversight or process, inevitably some of them will be innocent and you will commit civil rights violations under our laws. In fishing terms, you’re supposed to throw back the bycatch. If we let them eliminate that process, they won’t.
Keep in mind that Border Patrol checkpoints, sweeps, and raids can and do occur hundreds of miles from any border. On roads traveled by ordinary citizens (and legal immigrants) going about their lawful business. If you believe none of them will ever get scooped up in ICE’s continent-spanning seine nets, I have a bridge to sell you.
Our country is presided over by a dinglebutt who thinks if you’re arrested by ICE, you shouldn’t have any opportunity to say to someone in a position of authority, “They made a mistake. I’m an American citizen.” If that doesn’t scare you, it should.
So here’s my offer. If Trump wants to summarily deport suspected or alleged border jumpers without any kind of hearing, every deported citizen gets $5 million, every deported legal immigrant gets $2 million, and every deported person who had a right to apply for asylum or has other legal rights that were violated by the summary deportation gets $1 million, plus minor children get an additional $1 million each. Paid by Trump personally, out of his own funds, not taxpayer money. If he really believes in this, then let him put his money where his mouth is. How about it, Donald, deal or no deal?

The corruption at Scott Pruitt’s EPA is boundless.
“A family friend of the lobbyists who rented out a room to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt was considered for a position at the agency, The New York Times reported Sunday, citing newly released emails.
“Pruitt’s ethics have been repeatedly questioned following a string of controversies, one being a housing agreement in Washington, where he reportedly rented a room for below market price from lobbyist J. Steven Hart.
“The Times reported Sunday that Pruitt’s chief of staff, Ryan Jackson, and Hart exchanged emails discussing hiring the family friend of Hart. …
“The paper also notes that the emails reveal deeper ties between the EPA and Hart.”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: The EPA has already suffered massive damage, and by the time Trump and Pruitt are done, it will have to be rebuilt from the ground up.

WTF!? spews:
This year I watched the NYC Pride Parade very close to its starting point. It started at 12:10pm. The last marchers to leave this location was 8:15pm. Seriously. The last marchers to reach the end of the parade had to be well over 2 hours later (I’m guessing), or they might even still be marching as I write – who knows.
This year they changed the route of the parade to accommodate the Worldwide Celebration in 2019, when they expect to have 1 million more visitors and spectators. They said that it would help shorten the length of the parade. But I think it got longer.
Speaking of the LGBT….I’m wondering if the right will take their usual stance on Huckabee being 86ed from The Red Cock…I mean Hen…and say….”See, the liberals, they want tolerance but are’nt even tolerant themselves”
Well, to this I say. You started it. You pick fights and then don’t like when people fight back. You open a can of worms and then don’t like them creepy crawly dirty things.
I see this a little differently though. This was one specific individual that was asked to leave an establishment; not because she belonged to any group.
The Baker didn’t want to bake for two gay people being married. He targeted (discriminated against) a group of people. Huckabee was targeted as an individual. I believe any establishment has the right to indiscriminately ask any individual to leave their establishment.
In NYC, recently an Uber Driver asked two lesbians to get out of the vehicle for an innocent peck on the lips with each other. A Yellow Cab asked a gay man, who was riding with a female friend, if he was gay, and then asked the gay guy to get out of his car after answering yes that he was gay. See – here a group is being discriminated against, not one specific individual – big difference.

Conveniently disregards the third of voters who describe themselves as neither.
But Dumbfuck’s right about on thing again.
Turnout will be destiny this fall. And Democrats still aren’t even playing in Roypublican’s league when it comes to manufacturing and then exploiting outrage to motivate action. Fortunately, the guy Dumbfuck voted for is giving us plenty of practice. And as Dumfuck’s poll shows we’re improving rapidly.
Thankfully, mid terms are not a nationwide poll. It’s 435 seperate local polls. And we only need to improve in 24 of them to put an end to Republican border soldiers torturing screaming babies for the amusement of his “likely voters”.
