Bus Rapid Transit has been sold as a cheaper alternative to light rail, but sometimes when put into practice, it’s just a bus with a better shelter and a fancier paint job. Then there is the vehicle. Often it is an articulated bus with an extra door. The Albuquerque Rapid Transit has won many accolades, but the buses have turned out to be lemons. Battery electric buses have made great strides, but it appears that the city of Albuquerque bought an uncertified model from BYD Auto of China, and the chargers have also had issues.

Little surprise that trumpanzees prefer terms like “collusion” that have no legal application to the RNC/Trump/Russia conspiracy and that the majority of WWCM voters are unable to spell. They are counting on being in a position to dismiss the results of Mueller’s investigation should Fuckface be unable to stop it. Lying during FBI interviews (18 U.S.C. § 1001), soliciting illegal contributions (52 U.S.C. § 30121), or even obstruction (18 U.S.C § 1503) are meant to sound like trivial technicalities instead of an organized conspiracy with a hostile foreign power.
But to yet loyal American citizens such a conspiracy is treasonous, even if it does not meet the legal definition of treason. Even Steve Bannon agrees.

How bad is it for the GOP? 53 house seats up for grabs and no Republican in either race at the top of the ballot?
Perhaps you have not paid attention.
Every two years there are 50+ House seats up for grabs in CA. Because every House member must stand for re-election every two years.
The last GOP senator representing CA is, I believe, Pete Wilson. OK, last elected GOP senator. His replacement lost a special election to Feinstein. In 1992.
So for 26 years the GOP has had no prayer of capturing a US Senate seat in CA. This is not new information.
Let us summarize, shall we? In 2018, the party composition of the US Senate contingent from CA will not change. In 2018, there are 53 seats in the House of Representatives up for re-election, just as there were in 2016. And in 2014. etc.

Missing the point again?
There are 4 current GOP held House seats in California that are a virtual lock to flip. Districts that went pretty solidly for Clinton. There are another 6 that were single digit victories for the GOP in 2016.
What’s the effect of a deeply unpopular President and no GOP on the two Statewide races? Everyone except Trump knows (Primary for sneaky Feinstein) there isn’t a chance of a GOP Senator from California but they’re defending the house.
No GOP candidate in the general for Governor? That’s embarrassing. Donor fleeing embarrassing. Base not voting embarrassing. Dems cakewalking to a 10-12 seat pickup in the house just in CA embarrassing.

I find it interesting that nobody is really talking about what is happening in Kentucky and what will happen in other states to follow regarding Medicaid and the requirement to have to at least work 80 hours per month (in Kentucky).
What are the implications? For every action there is a reaction – basic physics. The reaction shouldn’t just be – “They should have to” or “They shouldn’t have to”. Instead, think about what this means for the future.
The idea of Medicaid is medical insurance for the poor or those with little to no income. Well now they have to work 80 hours per month – or 20 hours per week. Ok, great – everyone should work. But are there jobs for everyone? Is the answer yes? Is there really a job for every single individual over the age of 18? If so, why is there unemployment? I know there is a shortage of qualified workers – but does this mean a shift of the not so qualified shift to those open positions that are waiting for the qualified ones and then those that are completely unqualified people that will now have to work (I know this assumes that that lazy person is unqualified to do anything or dumber than dumb) at the positions opened up by the shift?
Or do these people just don’t get any care and die on the side of the street or wait till they need emergency care, which the taxpayer pays at a greater cost?
Or do Employers now take positions that are full time 40 hours a week positions and cut them in half and then fill the other half with those that are currently on medicaid that aren’t working??
What about as jobs are automated? And there is a less need for people. WTF happens then? Do we all steal for a living to make ends meet? Or do we institute birth control to limit the population?
Doesn’t sound like the Repukes really thought this one out – other than those shithole folks need to work.
How about institute a training program? How about stop automation? Or do we do what Bob wants and lower the hourly wage to $2.00 an hour as medical needs and costs go up?
I don’t know – All I know is Bob hasn’t really thought about it nor does he give a shit. Something tells me when people are murdering in the streets for food and medical care that maybe he’ll start to get concerned or do the Christian thing and toss them the death penalty (again – at a cost to the taxpayer).
Ok – back to the regularly scheduled program…..

We’re talking about Appalachia. Proud people. Many of these people would like to work. Problem is they want “sit down jobs”, and they really don’t qualify for those.
Wanna know what really happens?
The hillbillies suck it up hard for a few months and go get a job, usually in retail standing all day, working half time to meet the requirement, and as soon as they make it past the “probationary period” they “suffer an on-the-job injury”.
Look for Kentucky’s workplace comp insurance system to collapse next. But lots of blue sky for employment comp fraud investigators. Too bad those aren’t “sit down jobs” either.

It matters not that I haven’t outrightly condemned Trump because it wouldn’t matter if I did.
1. I didn’t vote for him in 2016, either time.
2. There’s nothing to be gained from writing my congressional representatives about him because they’re all Democrats and they already are doing what one might expect a Trump opponent to do.
3. There’s nothing for me to be gained from joining the HA echo chamber with reference to Trump. If I were to wear a pink pussy hat I would do nothing except warm my bald pate.
4. This is supposed to be a local liberal blog and as a non-liberal local my role is to make you make better arguments to beat me, not blow liberal platitude sunshine up your ass about a guy I wish had lost in the primaries.
I’m happier that the president is Trump rather than Hillary (Steve @ 32, 44 – already paying dividends). Doesn’t mean I like the man or that I like who he is or how he conducts himself. I appreciate most of the major changes that have occurred since he became president. I don’t appreciate many things he says, his tone-deafness in times he has an opportunity to say something more useful, or his too-close relationships with aspects of the right I think should have their First Amendment rights taken away.
Newt, if I condemned Trump you’d find other reasons to be an asshole toward me. Because I choose to hang out with people who make me come up with better arguments, rather than hang out with people who think and say the same things I do.
It’s been 20-to-1 against me on HA, nearly daily, for several years. I’m still here. Newt, have you spent any real time polishing your arguments in a conservatives’ lions’ den? Didn’t think so. It shows.

Then the politicians got involved probably not familiar with the concept that their there is no missile announcement was way too late, as the original announcement would =d leave little to no wiggle room. It’s go to the shelter, or shelter in place once you get the announcement. Their question should be if this had been an actual missile how many people got the message. How many acted on it? How many acted on it correctly? In a manner they may survive? Did state officials and employees do the proper actions. Did county and city officials, Sure it’s disruptive, but less so than a real missile. A wonderful opportunity to see the effectiveness of civil defense. I suspect the accidental message reveals that civil defense is sub standard in Hawaii. Better a false missile warning than a real one to reveal the problems.

“Better arguments” Seriously, that is what you think you bring to the blog? I guess you are entitled to your opinion on that but it is probably 15 to 1 against you on that comment.
Like others have experienced, ‘conservative’ blogs really don’t allow and embrace dissent from their bleatings, this blog does. I don’t agree with everything Goldy has posted, but I’ll give him credit for allowing the bare-knuckled freedom of expressions that does go on here.
I spent many years living in Eastern Washington, I found that that most folks over there simply had no intestinal fortitude to even consider a different viewpoint other than their God, Guns, and ‘Get Off My Lawn’ mentality. Clint Didier was a hero to them, yikes.
Surprisingly, I can accept some Conservative viewpoints just like I can accept some Liberal viewpoints, I am neither a Conservative nor Liberal, I am an Independent through and through. I just find most of your “arguments” disingenuous and hypocritical. I get you just want to be the foil to the liberal blog.
“Because I choose to hang out with people who make me come up with better arguments, rather than hang out with people who think and say the same things I do.” I do that all the time, but it doesn’t take much to counter your arguments and besides, it isn’t your inclination to agree with anyone on this blog unless it is a negotiation of terms of surrender.

Might be ironic if they use GE Locomotives, since GE is selling the division.
WTF? spews:
@103 the move of GE to Boston not really related to any decision of go or no go. If anything, one of the reasons they are doing this is to keep the Hartford Region and the State (and Springfield MA) more competitive. Not sure about in the Seattle area or other parts of the Country, but it really is nothing for people to commute into NYC for work from 2 plus hours away from all directions.
After NYC Mayor Deblasio’s recent decision to scuttle the incentive for Aetna to move its headquarters from Hartford to NYC, CVS (newly purchased Aetna) said they would stay put in Hartford with the statement that that is where the talent resides or something to those words. Heck now NYC is only 2 3/4 hours away and much more convenient via train.
Tell me something – why don’t they just leave the 2nd track in even if they aren’t using? Why do they remove it? Your comment – “second track back in, although with the collapse of the freight base for the New Haven, and then Conrail, removing the second track seemed justified, at the time.”

Little diddy about Jack and Diane –
As some may know – I was a member of the Knights of Columbus up until last year. I joined because a friend of mine liked the cheap beer there. Some Councils of the KofC have bars (typically in the basement), and aside from good effort to keep up with the standing and values that Father McGivney set, this particular Council like the camaraderie to get shit faced on a daily night basis. Only a few years ago – a bottle of Bud was like $1.50.
After moving to NYC I didn’t really see the need to continue dishing out the $50.00 annual membership dues, but more so that I felt conflicted that I was supporting an organization that didn’t support me as a gay individual. So last year I didn’t renew.
I was very active at this club. I was there almost daily. Friday nights there is a Setback League, I was a bartender on the weekends and Monday nights. I was one of the Officers for a couple of years. The people were good people – a bit more on the conservative side – white macho masculine males. Woman (wives mostly) were allowed just not members (although some Councils have Women’s Auxiliaries). I am still active in scoring one of the fantasy sports leagues they run, but that too may end soon. I also created and maintained their website. The above might be too much information, because with enough digging one could possibly find out my identity. But anyways.
Anyways – there were different factions of people at this Council that kind of jockeyed for “power” or control of the destiny of the Council. They took it serious, they didn’t want their “local pub” to go out of business and have to buy more expensive beer elsewhere (aside from the camaraderie and family that was).
So while I was there, I witnessed a bit of bigotry in general….some towards race and of course there was always the anti gay or bigoted remarks that I put up with (for many years). There were a cast of characters – for the most part they were good people, but just people that were too influenced by societies ills that they were also just sheep. There was one guy in particular (let’s call him Jim) that was very vocal about gay people as well as always picking fights (physical or physical threatening remarks) with anyone and everyone – just wanted to be a real tough guy. Jim’s whole family was kind of like that.
Over the last two years Jim was elected as top officer. It was a rotating position that nobody really wanted to fulfill.
To make a long story short – About a couple of months ago he calls me because he is having problems with the website. The website is down and the members are getting restless. So I help him out. A couple of days later it is back up and running. When I left about 4 years ago I turned over the duties of the website to another individual (another member). Well apparently, Jim is butting heads with that other individual. So after I help him, he tells me that but he says he knows another person (outside of the Council) that is going to help him maintain it. Recently I visited the website. Apparently, he did in fact have this other person help him out. The new website is atrocious. It is the worst shithole I’ve ever seen.
Moral of the story. Sometimes doing the right thing by helping out your enemy doesn’t always guarantee their success. If they are the jerk that they are, they will eventually fail…and if not, then really it is not due to you helping them.

Senate comity and respect have obviously declined rather appallingly under Yertle’s leadership. And clearly now partisanship trumps (no pun intended) Senate traditions. But if they want to call Durbin a liar I think now is the time to force their hand.
Every intelligent voter in America believes that Fuckface said it. Roypublicans can deny it with every breath and that won’t change. So if Durbin and the rest of the Dems force them to double down and call a fellow member a liar that opens the door to character and other personal attacks between Senators. With Roypublicans likely to retain a narrow Senate majority through 2020, but with little hope of meeting cloture requirements, a breakdown of Senate decorum and respect might just usher in permanent simple majorities just in time for Majority Leader Schumer. RBG having hired clerks through 2020 is looking better all the time.

That only works if you clip the exchange which the very little read by sane people Gateway Pundit did.
Translated, A friend of Bill’s (wjcv) heard that Chelsea (cvc) was investigating where Clinton Foundation (cgi) funds are being spent and told either Babs or Jenna about the investigation and they told GOP people.
Somehow this means it was being spent on her wedding because, well, there’s proof of that. Somewhere in these random sentences there’s a smoking gun that if you put on the right pair of glasses and are a complete lunatic you can see it. Why can’t everyone see it. It is clear. The word wedding is right there if you pull the letters out of other words and cross out the rest it says wedding.
I just received a call from a close friend of wjcs who said that cvc told one of the bush 43 kids that she is conducting an internal investigation of money within the foundation from cgi to the foundation
> The bush kid then told someone else who then told an operative within the republican party
>
> I have heard more and more chatter of cvc and bari talking about lots of what is going on internally to people

In case no one here noticed, WTI crude is now above $65 and Brent crude is topping $70. Inventories of oil in storage are falling off a cliff. What’s going on? Disinvestment. After years of E&P companies slashing capital spending to survive, reserves haven’t been replaced and wells haven’t been drilled, and the world now faces an oil shortage that will last for years. Offshore, which supplies a third of the world’s oil, has been especially hard hit with many jackups scrapped and platforms cold stacked, and many contractors staring at bankruptcy. Some experts predict $80 crude by year end, and $100 crude isn’t out of the question. Brace yourselves for higher gas prices this summer.
YLB spews:
@154 I was just reading that oil had just broken $70..
Heh. It’s all Drumpf’s fault – that “unpopular preznit”.. The freak and its miserable party will pay for it in November.
With that said, higher oil prices won’t affect us much. Our car stays parked 5 days out of 7. We bought it new in 2003 and it has just over 60k miles on it.
We adjusted to higher gas prices long ago but..
we’ll vote the bastards out in November just the same.
YLB spews:
Heh. Why don’t the Democrats give Drumpf a win for DACA?
After all isn’t Mexico supposed to pay for that fucking wall?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@155 The oil majors essentially eliminated spending on developing new resources over the last 4 years. When demand overtakes existing production, a supply crunch will occur, and crude prices will skyrocket until new investment catches up with increased demand, which will take years.
Not driving isn’t an option for commuters who can’t or won’t use public transportation. They’re about to give back all the money they saved on cheap gas over the last several years. For consumers in general, unless wages start to rise, higher gas prices will pressure already-stretched disposable incomes. The consumer problem isn’t severe enough yet to trigger a recession, but it likely will put a brake to some extent on growth.
In the bigger picture, the consumer economy is burdened by still-high underemployment, sluggish wage growth, soaring housing and rent prices, high debt, and rising interest rates. Deteriorating credit quality and rising default rates on auto loans and credit cards signal trouble ahead for consumer demand, which is 70% of the domestic economy.
The stock market is soaring despite, not because of, economic fundamentals, which is something for investors to keep in mind. In fact, the market’s response to fundamentals looks quite rational. Consumer stocks are actually declining. Since Jan. 1, 2018, Unilever is down -1.5%, Procter & Gamble is down -2.5%, Altria and Hershey are down -3.7%, Clorox is down -5.2%, and Kimberly Clark is down -6.4%. Stocks like McDonalds, Coca Cola, and Pepsi have gone nowhere.

@159 Capitalism is a simple system where’s there’s two beneficiaries: owners of capital and the laborers needed to produce the wealth or the surplus that’s left over when all is said and done.
All the incentive for the distribution of the surplus is skewed to the benefit of the owners. Minimize the share to labor, maximize the share to owners.
Labor is cost to owners; minimize the cost, externalize the cost (i.e. pollute, despoil), socialize the cost, privatize the profit.

Now they could ask the President to do a written report that would be read by a clerk as it was from Jefferson until Woodrow Wilson. I think if they are ill they have a r3eason not to be there. They could also go join the designated. If thy insist they will not attend just because they are using political reasoning and don’t want to be in the room with the President, they should resign from office. The Constitution requires the President to inform Congress, and as part of Congress they must be there. They can do their nails or whatever, but their presence is required, unless they are ill or attending a funeral something like that. And they still get to have a guest.

Mark Adams spews:
@171 Hey if you do the time in Congress you gotta sit in your chair when the President speaks to both houses. Thomas Jefferson thought doing a speech and making the members sit there was too monarchial. Having a clerk read it instead was not so monarchial. Only Robin of the Hood would disagree, sure he thought the Monarch and Sheriff were much on the same team, and if the Sheriff read the edict might as well br the King doing it.
The Congress person has a choice show up or resign. Folks in jail without bond have no such choice. And yes the Sergeant at arms instructed by the Speaker can be ordered to ascertain the whereabouts of members of the House, and the VP can make similar orders to the Sergeant of arms of the Senate. .
Look up the Constitution and just think what fun a President can have in a Joint Session of Congress with no Democrats there. The Democratic leadership should be telling certain members if you ain.t sick and dying you will be there, or resign. And you will have competition in your primary if you do not comply. We have to sit there and listen to him, you will too, sure you heard something like that in the Army old rabbit

Still I’m all for good relations so no reason to upset the apple cart when a bit of being a gentle person with some knowledge of societies rules, as long as it’s both ways. And if some of you marry a cute Republican mom the in laws don’t need to see your donkey ears until after the wedding, keep em covered with a knit cap.
Mark Adams spews:
@180 None whatsoever since Russia was ostensible an ally when the act was written. Though we decided to support the white Russians and had people running around the Ukraine in the early days of the USSR, rather unofficial, and rarely mentioned in the history books.
Mark Adams spews:
@179 Chelsea Manning was convicted under the UCMJ. The complaints about Roy Moore for the most part did not violate Alabama law. He was never charged and convicted for any crime, and the Democrats who supported him in his early career had to know about some of this stuff before his first run for Prosecutor, so they covered it up, or kept people quiet. It was if anything an open secret. The only real question is whether the press sat on the story until after the Republican primary rather than allow Luther Strange and one Donald Trump a win. Yes that old question of what did they know and when they know it. Of course It could be that this fellow who has been in the news so much as a judge did not generate any reason for the press to cover the primary. The press just stumbled over this story after the Primary when there was no way for the Republican’s to change candidates, rather convenient, perhaps dirty pool, but that is politics. And Republicans have not taught anything a reader of Machiavelli or Socrates and Aristotle didn’t at least casually mention.
Roger Rabbit spews:

@185 You seem to assume there are still Democrats who’d marry into a Republican family. Being married, I don’t patronize dating websites, but I’ve been told the most common answer to the question, “What is your biggest deal breaker” is “Republicans.”
The last time Nate Silver researched this, he found that interparty marriages still exist, but that was in early 2016 before Trump was elected, and even back then it was a pretty small percentage.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-many-republicans-marry-democrats/

@191 For there to be any money for any project Congress has to pass it. Now administrators have more power how the money is spent, and money can be slushed around. With earmarks directed by congress the money has to be spent as ordered by Congress. IE money earmarked for clean up at Hanford goes for that project, not clean up in Tennessee. Earmarks have a good and bad side, you want money from congress to go for cleanup at Hanford or the collapsed tunnel in the story then you should support earmarks. Sure you run into the bridge to nowhere sometimes.. but maybe for cleanup at Hanford earmarks are not so bad.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I used to think Pop Rabbit voted Democrat and Mom Rabbit voted Republican, but after they were both dead, I learned it was the other way around. Shows how little we actually know about our parents.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@196 You don’t understand what a congressional earmark is.
While the Constitution gives Congress the power and responsibility to appropriate funds, federal courts have ruled that cleaning up Hanford is a legal and moral obligation of the federal government to the states of Oregon and Washington.
https://www.governor.wa.gov/news-media/case-closed-hanford-cleanup-ruling-ups-accountability-feds-0
Citing the exigencies of World War 2 and the Cold War, the federal government used our state to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons, leaving behind nuclear waste that now must be dealt with. You simply can’t consider this necessary task as in the same category as the pet projects funded via congressional earmarks. It is OWED to our state, and to Oregon, by the government that created the deadly pollution that now threatens our principal water supply. Congress may have the power to not fund the cleanup, but that would break faith with the people of the Pacific Northwest in a way that would have lasting repercussions.
@godwinha spews:
@ 197
I used to think Pop Rabbit voted Democrat and Mom Rabbit voted Republican, but after they were both dead, I learned it was the other way around. Shows how little we actually know about our parents.
Pop wasn’t your parent.

C’mon. You had to know you were half-weasel. You’re read your own posts.
And as for Pop:
I went a-hunting in the woods,
It wasn’t very legal,
The dog and I were caught with the goods,
Pop! goes the weasel.
Newt Hoenikker spews:
@193 “What is your biggest deal breaker” is “Republicans.”
Any Republican on a dating website is most likely a scammer; as they are known for being liars and hypocrites. Republicans should be trolling their church’s congregation (aka flock of sheep) for their compatible mate.
You know after all they just go there “for appearances sake”, they don’t really listen to what the preacher is saying.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@198 (continued) Certainly, this funding is a far greater imperative than Trump’s $40 billion wall. Any Congress that appropriates money for that has no excuse for cutting Hanford funding.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@199 I didn’t know my parents very well, but I knew them better than you do. Just because my mother was engaged to two other rabbits at the same time she was engaged to my pop* doesn’t mean she cheated on him with a weasel. Besides, I look like him. I have his ears. I’m a hare, not a lop.
* My siblings found this out when they got into her old letters after they both were dead. The letters were in crates she nailed shut when they got married. Why she didn’t burn them is a mystery. In any case, there’s no mention of a weasel in any of her letters.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Unless you impute a weasel from her thing for doctors. Both of the other rabbits were doctors. Both jilted her. So I guess they were weasels in a metaphorical sense. But they weren’t my fathers, so it worked out okay from my point of view. Great Mother Rabbit Spirit forbid that you would’ve been my father.*
* As far as I know, you never met my mother, but if you want to press your argument that my father was a weasel, then I suggest we settle it by both of us submitting DNA samples.
Mark Adams spews:
@198 And to meet these obligations still requires Congress to allocate the money. Allowing bureaucrats to have more say over how money is spent or whether earmarks would mean Congress does a better job allocating money to Hanford is the question, and like President Jackson said the courts can pay for clean up if they want it done. Ultimately it’s political, and the Republican Representative you suggested was out to lunh on the issue is in the thick of it while also finding time to visit Rattlesnake ridge. In spite of being a Republican on these two issues he’s being responsive and doing things you all support. He’s probably made sure the Army Corp of engineers has a heads up. If any f the slide area is Reservation land he an get some Federal assistance, and isn’t 97 also a US highway?
Busy guy, and I bet he will be at the State of the Union. As part of his job, doubt he’s a fervent Trump republican.
Mark Adams spews:
@201 I don’t recall that Trump ran on cleaning up Hanford, but I’m sure he’s are of its importance, and he would be more aware if Washington were a little more competitive between Dems and Republicans. He has no reason to do more tha what the court has ordered, and neither party in Congress is going to bump Hanford up in the level of political expedience, unless radiation from Hanford falls all the way to Nebraska, or further, as that scares people, even if the individual risk is no more than a chest x-ray.
Yes I’m saying Democratic leaders at the national level care about Hanford about as much as Ttump, so stay upwind of “Hanford.
Mark Adams spews:
@189 Whatever is left of genteel society. Ask WTF as he went down this road, not sure he really believes his own rhetoric, and some gay men will laugh in his face over the marriage thing. Mark Adams spews:
