    Since 1800, the elections have eventually seen the runner up at least accepting the results. 1800 was important, because it was the first time and incumbent was defeated. Although John Adams did concede to Washington, in the two previous elections, he was bitter over his loss to Jefferson and Burr.

    Up north, campaigns tend to end on election day. New Brunswick 2014 was almost an exception. Results reporting was a little delayed, and campaign lawyers were telling candidates not to concede. The problem? A mishap with the electronic tabulators that Elections New Brunswick was using, for the first time, instead of hand counted paper ballots like most provincial elections in Canada use.

    For two weeks I’ve been shaking my head whenever I heard another Republican issue a “call to arms” for their hapless idiot supporters to stop groping women and rush to Philly to “observe” polling places. I saw no reason to point out the futility of such calls. And now they have to try to toss together a legal salad of motions with only two weeks to go and hope for an injunction? Still wondering why Trump’s field ops director quit?

    It strains belief that the local Pennsylvania Republican Party was unaware of the residency requirements. So we can probably assume that if they had any prior existing plans to challenge the law they would have filed, oh I don’t know, years ago? Veruca Salt at Trump tower must be calling the shots.

    Interesting editorial out of Benton County, Oregon, about County measure 2-100. If passed, it would adopt ranked choice voting for elections of county commissioners and sheriff. It would be a start, although Benton County, with it’s County seat of Corvallis, has a population of under 100,000. Multnomah County adopting it probably would hurt it’s chances statewide.

    The GOP is stocked with lawyers that have spent their entire careers sneaking into hospital rooms to convince unconscious or heavily sedated patients to sign indemnification documents for their clients that waive the right to sue the people that put them in critical condition in the first place.

    They’re the dudes that see a car wreck, find out who caused it, get those people to write a quick retainer check, and and then tailgate the ambulance all the way to the hospital to see if they can get those indemnification papers signed before the victim dies of their injuries. They’re the kind of lawyers that make people hate lawyers.

    Meanwhile, The Don’s intransigence isn’t an accident. It’s very deliberate. He needs lawyers like that to help convince the people he’s fucked over that it was their own fault for trusting him when he’s always been well-known as a criminal, thus those people should have already been aware of that and taken steps to protect themselves from him before making the deal. He doesn’t negotiate anything, he tells people what they’re going to get out of a deal after the deal has already been done, contract notwithstanding. He’s gotten away with that shit for decades. It’s how he’s always done business. That’s why there isn’t a bank anywhere in the so-called “first world” that will do business with him.

    He’s been keeping State’s attorneys in his pockets for a long time. His only real expertise seems to be keeping the right wheels pre-greased in case he needs them. His “friendships” with Guliani and Christie are primary examples of this. Get them laid, get them elected to the right offices, make sure they have lots of spending money and make sure they stay in his inner circle of pals with lots of pretty girls who know how to follow orders around. Basically, he’s really just another pimp. The reason why nobody in that position has come up against him is that they’d have to admit to dozens of Felonies to do so.

    I wonder how much Rudy and Christie are into him for. Probably tens of $Millions, although it’s pretty obvious that they came way cheaper than that, especially if there is physical evidence involved such as photographs and video. Maybe even a few holes in the desert, so to speak.

    I do wonder how many people The Don has had whacked over the years? Certainly the business he’s in is rather infamous for that.

    @2 Come on someone putting bullet holes in a sign could be someone just doing their right of free speech. Did the person discovering this sign also look at the other traffic signs in the area. It’s not unusual to fin signs in the rural south with bullet signs. If the other traffic signs also have bullet holes it could be something else in play here. In any case Mississippi did rejoin the Union more than a century ago during the reconstruction.
    So when you can separate the holes put in the sign by some yahoo that shoots at any old state sign by the highway and the ones put through by some racist shooting at the sign because it’s for Emmett let me no. Or are we going to put some Gestapo agent out there to keep an eye on the sign 24 seven and he and agents will make an arrest and there will be a perp walk. No 1st Amendment defense allowed.

    @1 You have proof of this or is this more urban myth created by television and the modern media? Did Horace Greeley actually concede?
    I doubt you will find any concession speech, letter, ect for most elections prior to television and radio. During most of the 18th century during many elections the candidates did not really campaign, so why would they concede publicly? And then of course there are the hundreds upon hundreds of representatives in their elections and not all of them ever conceded. Senators well you don’t need to worry about finding any concessions until they are popularly elected, but just looking at the Washington State legislature on the subject there were some major fights over who became Senator and the loser was not always a very happy camper, and come the next state elections the knives came out.
    So how long do you think you need to go research and prove your thesis? President Grafield says your full of shit.

    @1 Also the result of the election was not known until the electoral collage votes were counted in all three of those elections. And the runner up became Vice President. Yet factions happened and we got Amendment XII in 1804.
