Then the discussion got to the subject of being gay and living in the Middle East. One of them said it is easier to have gay sex in the Middle East than it is here in the USA. He then gestured what they do in the Middle East to describe how easy it was there. I have found that those of the christian lifestyle that scream the loudest about their faith and how everyone else has to conform to their beliefs, are usually the ones who are most insecure about their faith. It’s as if they feel if they can force others to do as they say, then maybe god will approve of them.

Puddy, I have a Christian background, but being gay, I have stopped going to church. I didn’t see the point in going to a church that didn’t think I should exist. That’s right up there with being a log cabin republican.
During my formative years, my mom was a seeker, trying to find a religion that seemed true and a community that hypocritical. I spent a year or so each in a Free Methodist church, an Seventh Day Adventist church, and a Episcopalian church and others. All the faiths were well meaning nice people, trying to more or less live good lives.
The SDAers were a little more “Us against the world” and “You are with us, or you are against us” than the others. They kept themselves apart from the community. I inferred from what the grown ups saying at informal gettogethers, it was wrong to take advantage of SDA members but OK to take advantage of everyone else. They were the most militant of the churches I attended, for example my Sunday school group practiced marching up and down the parking lot along with bible study.
So, I have read a good part of the the bible growing up, and found it wildly contradictory and inconsistent. Worse, I have found the followers pick and choose what verses they want to follow.
it’s easier and clearer to surf the internet for discussion on the topic of the sabbath by people with care passionately about the topic. I don’t. I’d just be happy if christians actually acted more like Jesus instructed in the version of the bible I read as a kid.
