    I disagree with describing this kind of thing as a political stunt.

    I think we elect our legislative representatives to do more than just take votes. There really must be an element of public leadership and education in the job that goes beyond ribbon cuttings and camera opportunities. When an issue is important enough, and when the circumstances permit, good legislators will set aside the practical agenda long enough to focus public attention and if possible shed some light. I think they succeeded in doing that here.

Also, they should take Northern Ireland with them since most of the Protestants in that area are originally Scots who came over when the English subjugated the Irish to English rule.

A major housecleaning is in order, both at the management and beat cop levels. Ferguson, Missouri, is as good a place to start as any; just fire the whole damn police force and hire a new crew. If Oakland can’t keep a police chief longer than 2 or 3 days, maybe they should just abolish the police department and contract out policing to the county sheriff, like some municipalities do here in King County.     The Brexit vote made me think about the term Democracy. Was the vote really Democratic? Before the vote it was proposed to allow 16 and 17 year olds vote. What of the million poles who have emigrated to Great Britain over the past 10 years. Some may have gotten citizenship in Britain, but why under the rules of the EU and who expects the Brexit (or the Inquisition). So did these folks get to vote. Did the poles, French, ect who lives are directly going to be effected by the vote. After all they may have to leave. Did the subject of what happens to the million poles really come up. Are they the future illegals of Britain.
    Of course the EU nations will eventually get a vote, once there is a new prime minister and maybe a new party in power. And a vote takes place in Parliament, and the British do the formal request which they may not do.     @3 You an opportunity every two years for your representative and every six years for your Senators to replace the folks who make Congress’s schedule. According to the Constitution both houses must meet once a year.
    On the other that gets into the Census. A law that freezes the number of Representatives in the house, and some issues that are at the Federal level so again you get to vote those folks out if you aren’t happy. As far as how congressional districts are mapped out that is a state thing with certain rules, but we have only devised imperfect ways to lessen the impact of jerrymandering. Guess the folks you vote for at the state level matter at least once every 10 years. Of course you can’t do nothing about them people in Oregon or Texas.

    @16 You seem to be talking of a separate issue from setting up districts.
    If you want some other voting system than first past the post that is talking about the voting system, and is a different issue from setting up districts, though first past the post is probably the only voting solution for Wyoming. In Washington talk to your state representatives. Who you may find like the current system that has primaries that then limit the voters choice if only they could impose those rules to federal elections. That would make them so happy. All the candidates could be Democrats!

    @32 Willy there’s been an advisory vote. The Prime Minister has stated he’s stepping down. Some financial effects have started and there is uncertainty. Until the British government formally starts the process nothing has changed. The pull out may never happen. It may never pass the House of Commons. There maybe a new vote. Being in this state maybe some court challenge could overturn the vote. Her Majesty may break with tradition and call the former Prime Minister a twit and say no to it all. The EU could drag its feet or may stand up for the rights of EU citizens in Briton who should have gotten to vote and call for another vote.
    Meanwhile the UK is in the EU and Monday is just another day. Only markets are going to gyrate due to the uncertainty.

It disapproves more strongly than Christianity does. There is a difference in the degree of tolerance. Christianity has been a bit more tolerant. Islam and Christianity has some gray areas when it comes to homosexuality. For most of history homosexuality has not been a big issue for the common people just trying to survive. Easy to turn a blind eye to it, and convince the village priest to look the other way. Same is true of Islam and depending on the sect of Islam it maybe ok or winked at. ISIS is using myth to support their actions.
    Still if you are a Christian or non-believer and you are taken by ISIS you are in as much danger as if you are gay. Convert and escape maybe your best game plan.
