I know a woman who survived the High Impact “School” at Tecate, Mexico, having been sent there by her father because she got caught having sex with her boyfriend when she was 15. You want to know what they called Waterboarding? “Baptismal”. Only they used it as a form of punishment. Get caught looking out a window? Baptismal. Get caught speaking to a person of the opposite sex? Baptismal. They were going to shove the love of JayZuzz down the kid’s throats if they had to kill, rape or hogtie them to it, which did in fact happen many times.
You White-Horse hero Mittens was right in the middle of it, and his campaign finance managers in several States were the same people running these “schools”. A LOT of money was made, and a lot of that ended up in the hands of the GOP and various Republican candidates for office around the country, and they had full knowledge of where it came from.
That is the Conservative movement in a fucking nutshell. Money is the Boss. Money talks. Money talks first and foremost, and if you don’t have money, shut the fuck up or we’ll torture you and kill you to teach you who is Boss. Because if you don’t have any money, you are worthless to them except as a labor resource or a channel for government money to the people who control the message.

I think the arc of neoconservatism – from the “States’ Rights” launch of the Reagan campaign on the dead bodies of civil rights workers, through his relentless vilification of government, the dismantling and capture of government regulatory function, the massive upward transfer of wealth and power to the already wealthy and powerful – we’re now seeing its evolution – severe gerrymandering and outright racial disenfranchisement to allow a Neo-Confederate take-over of the House, essentially a new Fort Sumter, a relentless assault on the capacity of government to accomplish anything for its citizens. One might think that Republicans and Teahaddists were nihilists, but rather, they are attempting to dismantle any vestige of government that levels the playing field between have and have-not. They are neo-feudalists, they are plutocrats. Military, police and surveillance activities of government, as long as directed at powerless, poor and working people to enforce their ever-cheaper labor, are A-OK, indeed essential.
I am growing more and more convinced that the Union is in the midst of an existential crisis, an assault on its very being and integrity. I think the tone of the next few elections needs be uninhibited, unvarnished assault on these un-democratic ideals, on these people who would make serfs of us all.
herzog spews:
@4
democratic ideals went by the wayside when it was realized by a certain tribe – that tribe that claims to be the real Americans – that those not in their tribe, i.e. blacks, browns, reds and yellows, could use it as a tool to acquire power, and all that we have seen hence has been directed at diminishing the power of them. So I don’t see it so much as a war by the Republicans and Teahaddists against the have nots, since many of them are poor themselves, so much as an effort to eliminate any government support of those whom they see as not belonging to their tribe and therefore those who pose a threat to them, i.e., its a cultural war. The white have-nots are willing to go along with this because, in their minds, they believe that the haves will protect them, even as they work for minimum wage with no health insurance, as many now do in the south. That is why, as I have said, everything that the Republican party does ultimately boils down to race, and as long as they can continue to gin up the fear of them they will continue to wield considerable power.

This crisis is a fact but personally I’m optimistic. The angry caucasian men who form the base and support for the conservative oligarchic order in this country is rapidly shrinking. They are fighting a pitched rear-guard campaign to sustain their privilege but I believe it is doomed to failure. Where we will stumble is in not being prepared to take the reigns as the opportunities present themselves. We must limit any advances they try to make in this drawn-out cold civil war over the next decade.

Yeah, but so what? Let’s play “what if” here. What if the United States crumbles, and the swath of the North American continent it occupies devolves into a complete collapse of organized human society, what does that lead to? Why, billions and billions of rabbits, that’s what! Is that such a bad thing? Why should anyone be upset if you humans disappear and we rabbits fill your niche in the biosphere? All the other fauna will be happy! We rabbits are a vastly more benign species than you humans. Can’t happen too soon, as far as we’re concerned.
