I talk to nurses and programmers, salespeople and firefighters—people who bust their tails every day. Not one of them—not one—stashes their money in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.
The only real question is did she get a degree in economics from Harvard too ;-)

Just think how much more likely Slick Willard would be to win the election had he chosen to stash George W. Bush and DICK Cheney in the Cayman Islands instead of his cash.

Hey Mike,
It’s a free country, last I looked, I can take my money and “stash” it anywhere I please.
What’s wrong with diversifying ones holdings to limit exposure to potential loses? If there are tax benefits in doing so, all the better..
Freedom rocks!

Ditto the Clinton family, Kennedy family, Bush Family etc etc etc….

One more thing, RS. If Slick Willard was on the up and up with his taxes, why doesn’t he want anyone to see his 2009 tax return?
He gave 20 years of tax returns to the McCain campaign in 2008 when he was being vetted for veep. He’s released, or pledge to release, his 2010 and 2011 returns. The only return no one has seen, or will see, is 2009.
What happened in 2009? That’s the year the IRS offered amnesty to people who had evaded taxes by stashing undeclared income in overseas accounts, especially in Swiss banks and havens like the Cayman Islands. In return for cooperating with the IRS and paying taxes and penalties, the IRS agreed to forego criminal prosecution.
Why would tax dodgers suddenly have a change of heart and cooperate with the IRS. But thousands did. Accountants for high net worth taxpayers fell over themselves lining up at the IRS to accept that deal on behalf of their clients.
This happened because of something else that happened in 2009. The IRS succeeded in forcing a major Swiss bank to reveal to the IRS the names of its American account holders. And once the IRS had their names, these tax dodgers knew they were caught. An amnesty that allowed them to stay out of prison by paying the taxes they owed and standard IRS penalties suddenly looked like an awfully good deal to them.
Was Mitt Romney one of these tax dodgers who accepted an IRS amnesty to avoid prosecution and prison? We won’t know, one way or the other, unless and until he discloses his 2009 tax return — the only one of his tax returns since 1988 that no one outside his family, his accountant, and his lawyer have seen.
Which makes me thing there’s something in that 2009 tax return that he wants to hide.

It’s been awhile. I’m trying to recall if you had some redeeming quality. If there was, I’m not being reminded of it so far.
A new report from a human rights group says Libyan documents show the Bush administration cooperated with Libyan dictator Moammar Ghadafi in detaining and handing over Libyan dissidents to the Ghadafi regime. In some cases, the dissidents were waterboarded by the CIA before being turned over to Ghadafi.
one U.S. President tried to kill Ghadafi with airstrikes. One U.S President tried to cripple Ghadafi through sanctions., one U.S president bragged about normalizing relations with Ghadafi. One U.S. President provided air support for the revolutionaries who got Ghadaffi. Which one do you suppose Republicas avvuse of being on the side of terrorists?
Check it out. An H. Clinton/Warren ticket in 2016. First female president, first female vice president, one fell swoop.

Usual suspects,
If you want the 1% to pay their fair share, enact a flat-rate, simple tax code. Get rid of all those crazy deductions and credits if you want “fairness.”

Roger Rabbitspews:
@18 One possibly could construct a rational argument that the Israelis and Palestinians deserve each other and we don’t deserve either of them.
@19 I’d go along with that idea if includes state and local taxes. As things stand now, the federal income tax is progressive (taxes the rich proportionately more) and state/local taxes are regressive (the rich are taxed less), and they somewhat balance each other out so it’s something of a wash. The income tax code will never be simple, though, because you still have to define “income.”
