It’s finally starting to feel like spring around here! And maybe it is just me, but it sure feels like political passions are beginning to stir among us liberals. Let’s talk about it.

Please join us tonight for an evening of electoral politics under the influence at the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally. We meet at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Starting time is 8:00 pm, but feel free to join some of us for an earlier dinner.

    I’m having a hard time processing this new information that I’ve gotten courtesy of Scott Walker and our friends on the right. See, it turns out that, my sweet and caring kindergarten teacher, Miss Owens, was really a jack-booted union thug and the leader of a communist cell. I’m sure you can see how this new information is a little hard for me to wrap my head around.

    Miss Owens got paid by–get this–the GOVERNMENT. She will, I hate to tell you, rot in Hell. Anyone who has ever taken a paycheck from the GOVERNMENT is evil. Even Miss Owens. Her sweetness, you must know by now, was contrived. She was just playing her role in a vast leftist conspiracy to deprive right-thinking Americans of their God-ordained due. She did not want the best for you, back in kindergarten. Miss Owens wanted only that you do your best to turn this country away from God, American exceptionalism, and truth. If, in fact, you don’t vote Republican, then she did her job well as a Soviet agent.

    No matter what the whack lawyer from the peninsula claims, it’s the union who doesn’t care for the students. Posted the same union president speech four times so far. But as I stated earlier this week, it’s virtually impossible to fire the bad teachers on IPR and praise the good teachers with merit pay and certificates of appreciation. Once again even the hyperbole of the leftist lawyer doesn’t cut it.

    Not everyone who takes a check from the government is evil. Huge multinational defense conglomerates (Halliburton, KKR, etc.), oil companies in general, security contractors (Blackwater), etc. are considered by the Republicans to be the “good guys”, as long as they kick back a percentage of federal business back to the Republican Party and it’s candidates/causes in the form of campaign contributions.

    Professionals who actually do their jobs well and devote their lives to public service, for relatively meager wages compared with the private sector are another matter. According to Republicans the magnitude of their evil intentions cannot be exaggerated.

    In other words, the grandmotherly kindergarden teacher who makes 35K a year after years of service is per se a greedy, overpaid, lazy leach. A Haliburton executive who gets salary, bonuses, and stock options in the higher eight figures – each year – is a patriot.

    Republican reasoning and priorities are so wierd.

    ThinkProgress filed this report from a town hall meeting in Milton, WI.

    Earlier this week, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) embarked on a series of town halls across his southern Wisconsin congressional district. Ryan has gained notoriety in recent weeks as the architect of the Republican budget which extends tax breaks for the wealthy and phases out Medicare. House Republicans voted 235-4 in favor of the plan.

    During a town hall meeting in Milton, a constituent who described himself as a “lifelong conservative” asked Ryan about the effects of growing income inequality in our nation. The constituent noted that huge income disparities contributed to the Great Depression and the Great Recession, and thus wanted to know why the congressman was “fighting to not let the tax breaks for the wealthy expire.”

    Hahaha…the Koch-heads will be spending A LOT of money in Wiconsin’s 1st Congressional District in 2012.

    The fun thing about Iran is that they are both a net exporter of oil and a net importer of gasoline. Their fundi ruling class has fucked the country so badly that they can’t even turn their own oil into enough gasoline to run the country on.
