Not in Seattle? There is a good chance you live near one of the 222 other chapters of Drinking Liberally.

Hey, I’m already here, and I have petitions for I-1149 in case anyone wants to come down and sign. I should be here until 8:30.

The big news story today is that Japanese authorities concealed how bad the radiation releases were to avoid panicking the public.

In my opinion, no matter how good nuclear technology gets, the nuclear industry — and the government bureaucrats who pretend to regulate them — just can’t be trusted with something as potentially destructive as a nuclear reactor.

Even a Volvo can kill people in the wrong hands.

Republican Texas legislators trying to legalize carrying concealed handguns in that state’s college classrooms have been stopped three votes short by a campus revolt against the proposed law. Students and professors in droves have objected to allowing people to carry guns in classrooms.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: The America that Republicans dream of has college students packing heat and senior citizens living without Medicare or Social Security. Why would anyone vote for these Neanderthals?

    Dear God,
For the good of the nation, for the good of the world, please assure that the Republicans nominate a complete wingnut (is there a candidate among them who is not a wingnut?) for president. I ask for nothing else. My needs are few. Just that, that’s all I ask.
    Amen.

@5: Is there any other kind that can be nominated? It’s the way of the dark side of the force. No need to trouble God on this, thank Lee Atwater who rigged the system this way.

@3: Very troubling discussion of Fukushima on Democracy Now today:

Obama is a big fan of nuclear, his energy strategy is based on it, an example of a government boondoggle direct from the energy industry. And this, they say, is why we need more entitlement reforms…
