Please join us at the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. beginning at about 8:00 pm. Some of us will be there early for dinner.

    I confess, I find it dispiriting to read the polls and see candidates, mostly Republicans, leading in various midterm races while promoting many of the very same ideas that got us into this mess. Am I hearing right?

    Let’s have more tax cuts, unlinked to any specific spending cuts and while we’re still fighting two wars — because that worked so well during the Bush years to make our economy strong and our deficit small. Let’s immediately cut government spending, instead of phasing cuts in gradually, while we’re still mired in a recession — because that worked so well in the Great Depression. Let’s roll back financial regulation — because we’ve learned from experience that Wall Street can police itself and average Americans will never have to bail it out.

    The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-five percent (45%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -18.

    Just over half the nation’s voters say it’s fair to call the Democrats the party of big government.

    Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker now earns his highest level of support yet against Democrat Tom Barrett in the race to be Wisconsin’s next governor.

    The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters finds the Republican candidate with 52% of the vote, while Barrett, the mayor of Milwaukee, picks up 42% support.

    Feingoldstein is also getting his ass handed to him. Do you think Wisconsin will support the Imam in 2012??

    Actually, they didn’t and if DDT and there are newer and better pesticides w/o the side effects of DDT (like killing off birds that eat misquotes.) was used as heavily as it was in the 50’s and 60’s the misquotes would have become immune to it anyway.

    The Stockholm Accord banned DDT’s use in agriculture, not malaria control. DDT is a cheap and easy thing to make and it still occasionally turns up in fruit and produce and coffee that’s imported from the third world. In other words, DDT is still getting used every now and again in agriculture.
