Meanwhile, Tesla stock is down 36% from mid-December. Trump Media peaked later, a week before inauguration, but is down 44% since then; and the decline of both stocks has picked up speed in the last week. Investors are voting against these guys with their feet.

    2. Please explain why it needs to be five or six days a week instead of once a week

Anyone who has ever had a corporate job is familiar with the idea that the executive suite has no fucking clue how anything works. Why seven days? Well your insurance company won’t sign off on the anti-psychotic prescription until you’ve run out. If there’s a gap, well what’s an episode threatening the public safety if you go a day or two without?

And it’s not like Amazon pays the USPS millions a year to deliver the last mile. I mean if you are on a Kansas Farm and Amazon killed off the local hardware, what’s a few more days to get the spark plugs for the harvester? USPS initiated Sunday service BECAUSE Amazon paid them to guarantee 48 hour Prime Delivery ™

Why just the other day I got the heat lamps to keep the egg laying flock alive overnight via email. Not sure how. 3D printing or something?

Federal spending in the 2024-2025 fiscal year is about $6.75 trillion. The House GOP budget resolution calls for a minimum of $1.5 trillion spending cuts, which they characterize as “waste, fraud, and abuse.” That’s an incredible 22% of all spending!

Republicans think (a) simplistically and (b) across the board, so this can easily be broken down as follows:

22% of all Social Security and Medicare recipients are dead
22% of all federal workers drawing paychecks are dead
22% of all federal contractors are dead
22% of all Medicaid and food stamp recipients are dead
22% of all active-duty and retired military personnel are dead
22% of all veterans receiving medical care in VA facilities are dead
22% of all Treasury bond holders are dead
22% of all National Park visitors are dead
22% of all congressmen and senators are dead

See how easy it is? Just stop paying zombies, and voila!, a third of the deficit disappears!

  44. 44

    Roger Rabbit spews:

    Wednesday, 2/26/25 at 12:51 am

The House budget resolution presupposes $880 billion in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and ACA. Ever wonder where they got that number? Not from complex calculations; basically, from clicking on a computer link (here). You see, the net debt interest in the current fiscal year is $882 billion. Weird, huh, how those numbers match? It sure looks like they decided to pay the bondholders (including China) with money allocated for health care for American citizens, doesn’t it?

Republicans have no imagination. They can’t do simple math. That reinforces the conclusion that when they looked at interest expense, they went “hmm” and said “let’s take it out of health care” (but not their own, of course). It’s just like balancing the family budget, to spend more here you spend less here, and Republicans have always thought the federal government should be run like a family budget.
